Went this past Friday & it was not what I was expecting! Food was phenomenal! That's where we'll start because aside from Ricardo & Ramon being the light in the darkness that was RL Restaurant for my bestie & I, everything else was just that; Racism & darkness :( We arrived early for our patio reservation & were seated at the bar as we wait. We arrived maybe 15-20 min early so this wasn't the issue, what was the issue was other people just arriving were being seated before us. Once my friend brought this to their attention we were sat at what seemed like a last minute setup; comparably smaller than every other patio table and only seating for 2 rather than the standard 4 person seating at EVERY OTHER TABLE. We were also seated absurdly close to the shrubbery they have placed for aesthetic. After having to assert ourselves to our reserved table, We have a habit of perusing menus and seeing what we may like. We got the seafood plateau & our server even joked how there wasn't enough space for it as our small table. Scott was far from pleasant. When asked about wine recommendations for the special he dryly instructed my friend to check the wine list. As we watched him be friendly and joke at the tables around us it was hard not to notice the change in behavior when he'd approach us. The seafood plateau was good though; I believe they sized it down for us. We also had the scallops which were heavenly *Chef's Kiss*. The burger was great and my friend had the bass which was good as well. The escargot was good & All the drinks we had were great & again Ramon & Ricardo were the highlight. I'm not sure if they thought we couldn't pay or how they judged us from entry but they've loss the chance at a longtime consumer who was willing to bring all my friends who don't even know you all exist. But maybe we as patrons aren't wanted here, & I've never needed to be somewhere I'm unwanted. As soon as Scott mentioned he was leaving I almost jumped for joy & prayed Ricardo would be better & to my delight he and Ramon made sure we were comfortable. I did not plan to tip Scott, but after inquiring we were informed they pool the tips. So here is the review for Scott and the establishment to which he is employed because he isn't the only one inside with that mentality & this is obvious. All thing aside the staff except for two & the chef; Horrid. The environment nice but the treatment appalling in 2023. If I venture back I am requesting Ricardo specifically. Someone asked for me to reach out but didn't leave contact information; Review stands

This was the first place we stopped to eat after arriving from the airport. It was recommended by an employee of the hotel we were staying at (Hyatt Centric) it was of tasteful walk distance in the inviting street of Michigan Avenue so we took a chance. Upon arrival we were greeted by great service from the host. We sat for several minutes before being approached by what we thought was our waiter, he brought out a basket of bread and said our waiter would be right with us, several minutes later a second waiter came and served us water glasses. I asked if oysters were a good choice on the menu and he implied a simple yes. Our oysters were of poor choice and super tiny.. we were then introduced to the waiter taking over.. that’s right an unbelievable 3/4 waiter deal. Unfortunately for me service is of outmost importance. There was no enthusiasm in any of these waiters no elaboration on the menu items just a bland representation of their brand. Pretty sad. The best thing here was their delicious 20oz Ribeye as well as their bread pairings. Even our fries were cold and overly cooked. At the end of our meal a woman manager did approach the table was super friendly and welcoming but the overall experience was poor. Chicago is a beautiful site throughout the whole millennium mile but this restaurant displayed several waiters and none could be welcoming. Prices don’t fit the servíce. I don't recommend taking a chance on this spot. I visited many restaurants while on this trip and this will be the lowest on stars.

LOVE RL restaurant! I live in River North and every time I go there for special occasions the food is great, the service is great and the ambiance is great! Tonight our server, Peter Axelsen, was fantastic! All of our dishes were delicious- calamari, chopped salad, perch, side of asparagus, side of green beans. There was some guest drama and misunderstandings with my friends. Regardless , the entire night Peter Axelsen, our server, was accommodating and his service was extra extra!! My friends abruptly left and Peter even came out of the restaurant to see if everything was alright. Peter went above and beyond with his service! And also wrapped up the uneaten complimentary coconut cake desert! Which btw is delicious! Sorry, Peter, for the drama. I told the lady manager that night that you and the team were great! One thing I’d say is having the time slots be 2.0 hours instead of 1.5 hours. At a fine dining restaurant celebrating a birthday, catching up, eating, drinking, and as super busy and fast as they were, it’s still a bit difficult to be all done in 1.5 hours. Even though, I always look forward to eating at RL! Super restaurant! Thank you!

Ralph Lauren exudes class and charm with its traditional American style, reminiscent of an ancient library. The ambiance is undoubtedly one of its strongest points, immersing diners in a timeless atmosphere. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by the staff, setting the tone for an excellent dining experience. The service throughout our visit was impeccable, with attentive and friendly servers attending to our needs. While the restaurant impresses with its elegant decor and attentive service, we found the food to be somewhat of a mixed bag. The soup, unfortunately, arrived cold, which was disappointing. Additionally, the salad fell short of our expectations, lacking the burst of flavors we had hoped for. Despite the average quality of the food, we couldn't help but appreciate the unique ambiance of Ralph Laurent Chicago. The old-world charm and library-like setting created a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, making our visit enjoyable. RL is a place that shines with its classy ambiance and top-notch service. However, while the food may not have lived up to our expectations, the overall experience of dining in such an elegant and historic setting made it a memorable visit. If you're looking for a place to enjoy the atmosphere and service, this restaurant is worth a visit.

The Ralph Lauren restaurant in Chicago is one of four locations around the world. You can imagine I was excited to book my reservation knowing this would be a unique experience. The venue was quaint and dimly lit. It was packed on a Friday night. The restaurant space is quite small for the amount of patrons seated and also the amount anxiously waiting for a table. It was difficult to maneuver through the tables. Nevertheless, we were on time and immediately sat at our table in the back of the restaurant. For dinner, I had the lobster rolls, the lamb chops, and the brownie dessert. The lobster rolls were extremely tasty! The buttered rolls melted in my mouth as I took each bite. The lamb chops were also good. The only thing I was disappointed with was they were room temperature. The dessert was rich and decadent. I really like how all the dish ware had the RL logo on them; gave it a nice touch. Overall, I’m glad I was able to experience the RL Restaurant and highly recommend trying the lobster rolls when visiting. Oh and be sure to make a reservation to guarantee a table.

We love RL. It’s always fantastic. The space is lovely. When you enter, you’re transported. As you can imagine, you’re immediately immersed in Ralph Lauren luxury. Part London private club/part cozy hidden secret. The space isn’t large so reservations are a must. Service is special, as are the table settings and decor. Dining here is one of my favorite things. Lunch is very nice. Their burgers are legendary. A nice selection of salads, too. At dinner, I love the Dover sole. It’s a tad pricy but totally worth the splurge, in this instance you get what you pay for..beautiful food, surroundings and service. Great bar, too…but only a few seats. In nice weather there is an outdoor area that’s nicely obscured from the sidewalk by tall shrubs. It’s very nice and really the only spot on Michigan Ave with pleasant outdoor seating. That said, the full RL experience can only be had inside.

An underappreciated gem in downtown Chicago! We like to eat in the lounge, but be sure they give you a larger table or the fireplace. The small, rounds are not big enough for 2 having a meal. The escargot is perfectly done and sourced from France. The lamb is seasoned like a dream and not gamey (for lamb). The sole is filleted table-side at the perfect temperature and flavor. Can't wait to do it all again!

After our failed attempt at Ralph’s Coffee next door, Jeff our waiter made our trip so much more pleasant and worth it with his warm and funny personality. We have been looking forward to visit since I arrived to Chicago and we made our way with the kids via public transport and all without knowing Ralph’s was having a monthly employee meeting during the time we arrived to the shop. Not wanting to ruin the mood, we went next door to RL in hopes of making something of the hassle. Jeff saw us tired and lightened up the spirits and got us coffee and dessert. Lovely spirit and personality and very well culturally rounded. Thank you for making our day memorable!

We invited our parents here just to have a nice dinner with them, the restaurant was so nice that our parents thought we have a big news or announcement to tell them LOL. I just invited them here because I really wanted to try the RL's Dover Sole and I wasn't disappointed. RL Chef was able to enhanced the flavor of the sweet, and creamy fish. It was soooooo mouth watering! We tried other food in the menu too of course and everything was delicious! The Service was Phenomenal! The people (staff) here has finesse. They were all nice, presentable, and has smile on their face that made our dining experience more fun! We will definitely come back here.

This is a great place for families who love to eat good food. They don't have a kids menu, but they will make accommodations for kid friendly meals. The bread offered is an assortment of flatbread, baguette and olive bread. It comes with a quality butter. The escargot is really good - lots of butter and garlic. It comes with a couple pieces of toasted baguette to soak up the garlic butter. The corned beef sandwich was very good. It was tender and moist. The Chilean sea bass was a wonderful piece of fish cooked to perfection. Overall, I would say that the food is of good quality, cooked to the ideal doneness. That said, a touch more seasoning would have made the corned beef and sea bass knock my socks off.

So it was around 6 and we were not ready for dinner so we went to RL for a late afternoon tea. The staff who arranged seats for us was fine with this and she was very polite while a lot of guests were having early dinner. The vibe was great and the environment was excellent! Actually all the staff were very polite except the one that later attended us. We ordered black coffee, lattes and chocolate cake, latte was good as well as the cake- not that sweet (personal preference). Good view for both indoor and outdoor with tasteful paintings and fine dining table setting. We will definitely go another time for dinner.

Had a brunch on my birthday here. Such an exceptional restaurant. Very classy interior. I would suggest dressing smart business. The service right from check-in to paying the cheque was on point. Our server was very friendly. We enjoyed the Bellini’s. Lobster roll was amazing. The crab cake was out of the world. They also served a complementary brownie as it was my birthday which was very thoughtful and delicious. Places like these are definitely worth visiting when you are celebrating something. We will definitely be back but for dinner this time around.

It was my birthday and I was there with my family. My father who was on a lunch break and works for the Chicago police department was told that he would have to either leave or put his licensed firearm away. I told the manager that he was a police officer and he said he didn’t care. Not only was I embarrassed because everyone in the restaurant was looking at us but I was ashamed that this place with such a high status would say that to a father trying to enjoy a birthday meal with his son. I do not recommend coming here at all. The only reason I rating it a 1 star is because I can’t rate it a 0 star

COVID UPDATE: RL Chicago is doing a wonderful job keeping customers and staff safe, while still providing a fantastic dining experience. As always, the food is absolutely superb. Shoutout to the staff for the great job they do every single day. Original Review: Beautiful dining area, excellent food, and great service. The walls are decorated with all manner of artwork, and the whole space feels a wonderfully moody study. The oysters are really fantastic, as is the escargot. The RL Burger was a perfect medium-rare, and was utterly delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an upscale dining experience.

Treated myself after the Chicago Marathon. I tried their dinner lobster rolls, followed by delicious lamb chops, and a couple glasses of Pinot Noir. Was thinking of cake but seen the table next to me and their slice was HUGE so I passed only because I would not be able to stop myself. Staff was polite and helpful, my water glass was always full and they frequently checked if I needed anything but no too much to be annoying. Pricey but the food was good and the environment and staff are top notch.

Disappointing. Not worth it. I was thoroughly looking forward to experiencing RL due to the decent reviews and recommendation from friends. However, the experience ended in disappointment with the quality of the food and service. The good: decor and ambiance. Good date or business dinner venue if you want to impress but food quality isn't important. The bad: bland food. Dry steak. Limited wine selection. Below par service (not attentive and curt attitude). Disappointing overall and would not revisit.

An excellent place to dine in. My first visit there and will definitely come again while I am in Chicago. Full marks to the beautiful and very classy ambiance . The service was extremely good despite the fact that it was jam packed for lunch. I had crispy and lightly fried Lake Perch ( bass) with coleslaw & tartar sauce. Loved it. Capuccino after lunch was good too. We were a party of six and all were very happy with their food. Over all a great experience. On the pricier side but highly recommend it.

RL was a fun experience! The environment was very standard to what you would expect for RL. Quaint and great service. We went over lunch and split the burger and brownie. The burger was pretty good, brownie (subbed coffee ice cream) was fine, also did pigs and a blanket, but I don’t find myself saying I have to go back there for the food. Overall it was a very positive experience and we walked away happy! My friend rated her experience all together on scale of 10 as a 13 (big RL fan) and I rated it an 8.

RL was definitely interesting, some of the food was amazing, but others were not as good. The escargot was one of the best I've ever had in Chicago, but the shrimp cocktail was sadly lacking, same could be said for the crab cake, however the chocolate cake left me craving for more. The staff was friendly, fast and helpful. They gave some great choices when it came to the dishes. Always smiling and never letting us wave them down. I would recommend coming here, but for a lunch or tea time setting. As a side note, the food was a bit over priced.

Worth every penny. We sat outside in the patio however, I would recommend waiting for a table in the inside if you want the more elegant experience. Lobster bisque. One of the best lobster rolls I have ever had. Fresh fish. Perch if I recall. Juicy chicken sandwich. The elevator to get to the bathroom was intriguing. The bathroom in the gold decor was very pretty. The Polo experience has a POLO pricetag. But we all know polo is worth every penny!

When dining at RL, know that it's an upscale restaurant so the prices here are obviously not cheap. With that aside, I think this place is fabulous from the decor and food to staff. I was here for breakfast/brunch with a group. The food was well proportioned yet filling. Our waiter had little fun facts about the restaurant like where Oprah usually sits when she dines and the idea behind building the restaurant. This is definitely one of those places to see and be seen, so wear something chic!

What a beautiful atmosphere at the RL Restaurant. I had a light lunch at the bar and had a wonderful experience even though this place was jam-packed during my time there. The service at the bar was amazing, and the food was solid even though the menu is somewhat limited. I couldn't recommend the Polo Bar highly enough. This establishment is extremely classy!

Had a weekend to spare in Chicago and knew we wanted to try it out. Went there for lunch with my sisters on Oct.16. The place is very Ralph Lauren, food is very good, well priced and the service even better, shout out to Peter who gave us stellar service. Do get the crab cakes and the lobster/shrimp salad. Very impressed by all the staff that was professional and welcoming. Highly recommend to make it a point to come here when in Chicago. Looking forward to the next time.

Top notch service and atmosphere, if you are okay with a packed, nostalgic styled establishment. Food is good but expensive, which is relative to your budget. $200+ for two at dinner. This decorated restaurant, is one my favorites. Designed as if you are in a Ralph Lauren city home, the decor is timeless. As you would expect the staff are extremely friendly and courteous. I have been fortunate to frequent this establishment for both brunch and dinner and they never miss a beat. The mixed drinks are perfect and the wine selection is vast. On our most recent visit we were lucky to try this caviar potato dish, simply amazing!

Particularly well made food in a clean and modestly vibrant space. Do order the lobster roll cold, can't stress cold, it pairs rather well with the buttered bun. The calamari and rock shrimp are fresh, and worth a try. Asparagus and pecorino was simple and tasty. The cheese bread provided brought me back to childhood. Also, to get to the restroom is a pseudo adventure. Tip well.

RL has been a favorite of ours for years, and never disappoints. It is tastefully decorated in the old world style. The service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding. Their burger, in my opinion, is one of the best in the city. My wife loves their scallops, but had the halibut on the recommendation of our waiter. She loved it! The key lime pie is a must try as well!

My wife & I enjoyed a delicious lunch there today. Shrimp cocktail appetizer, RL Burger and Chicken Ceaser for entrees, cheesecake and a fabulous cappuccino for dessert. Great food, relaxing atmosphere and top notch attentive service. Will be back again soon. Highly recommend!

Going to the RL Restaurant was an excellent choice. The service was expectacular. They really know how to make people feel comfortable, important and unique at the same time. I had a chopped salad with a Dijon mustard vinaigrette, absolutely delicious. Then a slice of a moist and rich chocolate cake with a cup of coffe. Oh wow. Amazing Love this place.

Not too many options/varieties of food. Apart from that its a cozy place, nice atmosphere. Very good service. Waiters are readily available to be at your service. Ralph Lauren can do better by getting a bigger space.

Our condo unit located along the Magnificent Mile is just a 10 minutes walk to the RL Restaurant. We love the classic ambience, the good food and the friendly attentive services. We frequent this place whenever we are in town. Make sure to make a reservation.

Happened into this restaurant while wandering around the historic district. This feels like a quaint pub in the back of a fancy library. The food is fantastic and there are positive and friendly vibes emanating from this establishment. Highly recommended.

Casual atmosphere and the drinks were amazing. I thought I wasn’t dressed properly but the staff was very inviting and we ended up staying for a few hours. Beautiful decor. Very classy place. A must visit if you’re in the area.

The ambiance plus service and drinks is my main reason for giving 5 stars. 4.5 for the fish. A person in our party said the veal chop was very good. The spinach had good garlic and calamari was tender. The coffee specialty drink was very good.

The service was amazing, the atmosphere was on point. I can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Burger was top notch and the crab cake special was just like a true Maryland style crab cake.

Would’ve given 5 stars but service was a bit slow. Food was good, the lobster roll is a must have. If wine is your thing then the Adamvs is the one . Place has a nice dim ambiance. …

Love the outdoor patio. Feels like a small oasis from city life. Burger was great. Chicken Milanese was ok, but nothing noteworthy. Staff was very friendly.

  • Derrick

Classic and wonderful! Service could not be better. Had the chicken Milanese and it was amazing. Hard to get a reservation but worth the effort
