This place has very rude staff and does not respect your time. Do not use their online form as it will only waste more of your time. I ordered a custom cake here after hearing great things. Placed the request for a quote online and got a response back a week later. The email specifically mentions that the quote is NOT an order and that you still need to go in person with the printed quote to place the order. This was understood. I don't have a printer, so I stopped by a UPS store to print the quote (an extra step I would've rather avoided, but I wanted to follow the instructions to be in and out as quickly as possible). I arrived at the bakery and gave the quote to the lady at the front. I explained that I had received a quote online and that I just needed to place the order in person and pay. For some reason, she asked me to wait a little while longer, so I stood to the side for 30 minutes while they proceeded to help all other customers in line behind me. Keep in mind, I perfectly followed the instructions provided in the quote. The entire point being that I wanted to quickly take care of this as it was a work day for me and I didn't have time to wait. All I needed to do was show up and pay. When the lady got back to me, she asked again what I needed (?) and when I responded she says "Oh, all you need to do is pay?". I was already fairly annoyed at this point but I didn't voice that. I just wanted to be done with the whole process and move on with my day. Unfortunately things only got worse from there. The employee passed the task on to another employee who proceeded to be extremely rude to me for no reason whatsoever. She grabbed the quote I brought in and rudely explained "This paper is NOT an order. It says so right here" and proceeds to read out loud the line in the quote. This woman assumed that I was coming in to pick up a custom cake with only a quote on hand. Annoyed, I responded with "I know that. I'm trying to place the order. I brought in the quote like it says in the paper". She only got more annoyed when I responded. I didn't care either way in the moment, I really just wanted to place the order and move on. Another thing that was frustrating is that the printed quote contains all of the requested ingredients and instructions, but they proceeded to go through the entire process with me in person. It's like they're not even aware of this online system. Finally got the cake a week later and it wasn't anything great. Would've been happier with it if they had treated me with an ounce of respect. Definitely not worth the hassle. I won't be coming back and I recommend looking for other options.

I ordered a 9' Butter Cream cake with fresh strawberries for my mother's 90th Birthday. I placed the order on May 2nd and picked it up on May 4th. I should have known something was wrong when the person who waited on me kept going back and forth and speaking with another associate. I watched as they looked in a box, close the lid and then look at me. She came out again and disappeared in the back returning shortly and speaking to same associate glanced at me and went to the back and pick up the cake they both recently glared at. She opened the box and to m delight the cake was beautiful on the outside. Later that day when we cut into the cake it crumbled to pieces. Each slice that you attempted to cut crumbled with the bottom layer collapsing from the top layer. Needless to say, not only was a monumental moment ruined, but why would you sell a cake at that price to someone knowing it is not meeting your standards. I am not sure if I will trust you to provide me with a quality cake for a special event going forward. the strawberries were mussed into the cake and it was a sloppy mess. To keep from ruining the moment we chose to accept as is and eat with a spoon and our hands. I tried to call and to no avail. I do not live in the area and commuted a distance to purchase the cake. There should be a a way to make customers whole. This service was unacceptable and fortunate for you, you do not have to deal with the customers directly as you do not answer the phone. I cannot say that I would recommend your business to anyone. I used to purchase from you frequently and never disappointed. Well I suppose there is a first time for everything. The crumbs were tasty but not what I ordered.:-(

Wow! Was feeling nostalgic this morning and looked up Roeser’s, and super glad you guys are still around! I remember my parents getting our birthday cakes there as a kid! We lived on North and Karlov, a bit west of Pulaski, and my grandparents, then my parents, had a Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood for about 40yrs (1960s-early 2000s) that John Roeser the 3rd would come in to order food from. Mom has never forgotten Roeser’s or his food order! Me and my siblings were still kids, but I miss that time in our neighborhood! When you’re there that long, you become part of the Old Guard, I remember a lot of neighborhood places like Vito’s Pizza across the street, Ferdells, Guy’s Pizza, Pioneer Bank (all by Pulaski), the Betty Shop, and the card shop a few doors down from us—that went to time and memory. There was true diversity in the area then, and I miss that variety... I live on the north side now and was hoping to find them on one of the third party food apps to see if I could get something delivered, but honestly, going to the bakery is an EXPERIENCE. When you make or share food, it becomes part of the building blocks of our lives. So go in and please be courteous and respectful, because THIS bakery deserves it! Roeser’s is probably the last of the Old Guard in the area and I hope and pray they’re around for as long as the neighborhood is, changing, growing, and being part of as many kids birthdays as possible! They aren’t just another bakery, they are a Chicago institution and rite of passage, and part of what makes this THE BEST food city in the US! -salutes-

"Roeser's Bakery is an absolute gem when it comes to custom fondant cakes. I recently had the pleasure of ordering a cake for a special occasion, and I was blown away by the craftsmanship and taste. The attention to detail on the fondant design was exquisite, and it truly captured the essence of what I had envisioned. Not only did the cake look stunning, but it tasted heavenly as well. The moist and flavorful cake layers were a perfect complement to the smooth and delectable fondant. It was evident that Roeser's Bakery uses high-quality ingredients and puts great care into their creations. The team at Roeser's Bakery was a pleasure to work with. They listened attentively to my ideas and offered helpful suggestions to ensure that the cake turned out exactly how I wanted. Their expertise and professionalism shone through every step of the process, from the initial consultation to the timely delivery of the cake. What impressed me the most was their ability to bring my vision to life. The custom fondant design was not only visually stunning but also showcased their exceptional artistic skills. It was truly a work of art that left everyone at the event in awe. If you're looking for a bakery that specializes in custom fondant cakes, look no further than Roeser's Bakery. Their cakes are a delightful combination of beauty and taste, crafted with skill and passion. I highly recommend them for any special occasion where you want to make a lasting impression."

I have been going to Roesers for over 40 years I haven't been there in a few years but went there with my sis on 8/26 at about 3 or 4. Long line as usual. Girl said next my sis wanted a strawberry shortcake bigger than the one on display girl said ok it was for my brother to show appreciation for all he's done for the family. He loves superman so she asked for superman colors said can't do it in those colors but u have one purple and one pink so didn't understand that but she did do writing in red and blue so that's ok but when she asked my sis wat do u want to write on it my sis got stumped and was trying to figure out wat to put on cake she rolled her eyes and told her ill be back, meanwhile some trainee cause that's wat her tag said I was looking for names they didn't have name tags she told me can I move out of the way for her customer to look at the cakes no excuse me no courtesy at all i screamed very loud oh I'm sorry like I wasn't there to buy something. Don't know who she was but the short little spanish trainee with the horrible attitude and the other one who rolls eyes need to be retrained all over again in customer service. And this is not the first time over the years it has happened hear with so many different workers. This is one of the reasons I stopped going there. And before anybody comments on the short trainee statement I'm PR there's different woman working there no offense to no one.

My ordering process very pleasant due to the young lady that helped me bc the other workers seemed agitated with whom they were helping literally everytime I went. I ordered a cake for my daughter 8th bday. Price was reasonable but I didn't like the pricing/upcharge of every little thing but that's the economy I guess. Upon picking up my daughters cake it seemed nice but once I got it home I saw the imperfections nd by then it was too late to complain bc 1 it was her birthday 2. They make you sign they you accept the cake as you take it. Overall it was ok but paying $250 I didn't want any mess ups. The top tier I got strawberry.... the cake was a little dry but again how would I know that while picking up. Second tier was red velvet nd I chose a whipped cream filling.... the amount of whipped cream was beyond a lot want expecting that but the cake itself was good. There were cracks in the fondant nd spots where they painted over imperfections with a different color nd it seemed as if sonic mouth was collapsing it was distorted a bit. The bottom tier design pieces kept falling off as well. But in all I might go back but it will be for a smaller scaled cake.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME HERE. Horrible experience. I placed my order 5 days in advance. I went through what all I wanted one thing at a time with a worker by the name of Ellie. She wrote down each request I had on the order form. I asked for a round cake with a pink and blue border at the top and an image that I sent in. Upon pick up, they showed the cake to me. The first thing I noticed was that the cake only had a pink border, instead of the pink and blue that I asked for. And it was very thin, unlike a cake border you usually see. I informed the worker and asked that they add the blue border and match it to the shade of blue in the edible image. She returns a few minutes later to reveal a rushed, sloppy border that WAS NOT the same color as the image. This was a birthday cake for my niece, so I paid remaining balance and took the cake. Once I got home I had a closer look- the edible image was too small and not centered, plus there was a foreign object in the icing above the image, and a sticky substance on the cake board. The final blow was that the cake itself was stale and dry, AND the strawberry filling tasted like it was past expiration. Very low quality. Almost 100 dollars wasted. Again.. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

I’ve been coming to this bakery my whole life. My mom got all my birthday cakes from here, and I continued the tradition with my sons birthday cakes. This year however, put a bad taste in my mouth for Roser’s and I think this Will be my last time patronizing them. I put an order in via phone for a cake with an edible image, and payed in full. I was told to email the image which was already done. The day of my pickup (which was for 9:30am) I arrive at 11am thinking I gave them plenty of time to be ready. Waited in a long line only to be told my cake wasn’t ready because they didn’t receive my image. I was infuriated because why wasn’t I contacted the day before, or even the morning of pickup? I know the image was received because I emailed for a quote with said image and they RESPONDED. I then re emailed the image WHILE at the counter, and was told it would be another 10 minute wait. I did not receive my cake until 11:45am and my sons birthday party started at 12pm. While waiting, another young lady was told that they did not receive her image as well, so this seems like an ongoing occurrence. When asked to speak with a manager, is only when they seemed to expedite my cake.

I placed my specialty cake order for my son’s birthday two weeks in advance. Went there and discussed how I wanted it but to no extent, the lady who control what design I wanted. It’s really not a good experience but I just agreed with it just to place the order. I even bought my own cake toppers just to be with the birthday theme that I want which is another extra. I paid half of the price to placed the order. Visited the store again a week before handing them the cake topper. The most impolite lady there just dismissed me saying they are not doing it for me. So, I felt bad. Worst thing is at the time of pickup they said they didn’t do my cake because I wasn’t able to settle the balance. My bad that I missed that part of the contract but I have all the details on the receipt both email and personal number. They should have given me a call ahead of time. It can be arranged and it should not be worst like this…now I am picking up the cake and ready for the party and GOT THE WORST NEWS THAT THEY DIDN'T MAKE IT!!! VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Cookies are terrific, service is horrific. You'll wait in a long line but instead of first-come first-serve you'll have people come in 20 minutes after you & get called up to the front to pick up their cake. And this will happen repeatedly. Last time I was there to just get a pre-packaged box of cookies, I finally got to the front of the line (30 minutes) only to be ignored completely by the counter staff who kept looking past me & calling cake orders to cut to the front. I finally had to verbally call out to someone "Can I just get a box of cookies?" to which I got a big sigh, an eye roll, & they reluctantly checked me out (which took less than 30 seconds). Their service system is broken, it should be first-come, first-serve, no exceptions, but I don't expect them to change since the owner replies to all service complaints with excuses that they are short-staffed, that's always how they've done it, cake orders take priority, blah blah blah.

I ordered a cake from Roesers for my wedding. I was told to submit the photo through email, which I did (cake pictured on the left). I spoke thoroughly to someone at the bakery about what I was looking for. However, the experience turned into a disaster. On the day of my wedding when we went to pick up the cake it looked nothing like the cake I submitted! It was a joke (cake on the right). I can’t even believe someone could mess up this design so horribly but they did. I was still willing to work with it if they could make changes but was told the designer wasn’t present and they could do nothing for me. I left the cake because I was too embarrassed to have it at my wedding. I had to frantically go to a local cupcake shop and spend $100 more on top of the nearly $200 I already paid at Rosers. I was given a phone number to John the owner to get a refund but when I called it’s an automated number stating they aren’t taking phone calls.

The Roeser’s Bakery is a time capsule that’s continued to bring joy to the neighborhood in its continued run since its inception in 1911. A true Chicago staple. Anyone that’s ever come in touch with this place has fallen in love with its timeless charm. When you walk in, you’ll be greeted like you’re family and the staff make sure that you find something scrumptious to take away with you at the end of your visit. Roeser’s makes custom cakes and larger orders and they have fresh bread and pastries on the daily. They offer a Cornucopia of coffee cake varietals; baby shower shaped cakes (like rattles, baby feet and umbrellas); miscellaneous shaped cakes ( guitars, castles, animal faces etc); various delicious breads and homemade ice cream variations and round and sheet cakes. I’ll have to stop by and take proper interior photos and video soon. Meanwhile, do yourself a favor and stop by and experience this sweet spot for yourself.

Roeser's has to be one of the best bakeries in Chicago. Every time I go here, the line to get their treats leads right out the door and around the building- there is hardly ever an empty spot in their parking lot. Their staff are always quick and in my 15+ years of going here, never once had they messed up an order. My father even refuses to eat cake from anywhere but here so I almost always have a cake order ready to go. Their donuts are phenomenal as well, with unique flavors and a ton of other delicious treats. If there is one thing I can say about this bakery, it would be that they never disappoint. I will say, however, that they are always in high demand, so things sell out quickly. It is best to get there early or order ahead of time- never come in near closing hours because I can promise you they will be practically empty! But that is also a testimony to their popularity, they really are fantastic!

I'm so disappointed in the way I was treated from the bakery I've eaten cake from my entire life. I called in and ordered my cake on 9-14-23 for my cake to be ready for Friday 9-15-23 @ 11am. I showed up to my order being placed in the pile for 9-16 orders. I showed up at 2 to pick up believing my order will definitely be ready at that time with no wait. At that point they rushed to make my cake. I asked for a heart cake with glitter and pearls and I didn't get anything I asked for. I even sent in a picture to reference. The young lady on the phone made it seem as if I will get exactly what I wanted. I was disappointed in the cake I was given after the back and forth of them making the cake rushing. My cake fell apart by the time I arrived home. I never got an apology or any compensation for the mistakes made in your end. Very sad and disappointed on my birthday.

  • Lisette Trujillo

Slightly disappointed this was my first time ordering from here and they got my order wrong. I had came a week or earlier before the actual day I needed it for my sisters baby shower. Everything I asked for was there except for the specific flavor. I had asked for a tres leches cake and wasn't given that I think it was plain yellow cake. The roses, colors and decorations on the cake were perfect. I'd given them a picture of what I was looking for and they did come close to it. The cake wasn't bad at all I was just really looking forward to eating tres leches and biting into something else was a let down . Maybe it's because of the amount of people that come it's very busy so I won't be judging off one mistake. I also got a good size of cake for what I paid for. Everything looks delicious and I'm curious to know what other items taste like. Very unique bakery.

  • Mind Ya business

This the first they disappointed me first of all the cakes was not correct as far as the theme I called the day before to make sure my pick up time was at 8am they said yes I get there late just to give them time my cakes still wasn’t ready they stated they was having problems with the machine for the picture on the cake I had to be at work they really didn’t apologize the cake look like i could’ve made that with my kids. I could’ve purchased it from the store and it would’ve came out better highly disappointed I’m not sure if they changed bakers/ cake decorators will not recommend and I had to say something to get a partial refund for what I paid for if I didn’t say anything they wouldn’t have gave me my money back. And the chocolate cupcakes were extremely dry

  • Violet Saunders

I spent almost $100 for a cake because someone said they were professional. I spent 90 minutes giving very specific details of the cake. I showed them a picture and compared it to one of the beautiful princess round cakes they already had. I asked that Pinky pie was put on the cake and that the Mane of the horse be the border of the cake like the frozen princess cake they had. There was no fondue unicorn horn. They was suppose to send me an email of approval and I didn't get one. I asked for writing on my cake. It's on the box and misspelled. I can't get another cake. Its too late. My daughter birthday is today. They're closed on Monday and already said they wasn't going to fix my issue or refund me anything. I won't be recommending them to anyone.

  • Louie Reyes

I'm very disappointed with this bakery. I normally order my son's birthday cake from here, but not this year. I have called multiple times, left a message and sent an email requesting a quote. No one ever got back to me. My sister even went in person to ask about it since I am in the Army and was trying to place the order from out of town. My sister said she talked to a girl, who wrote down the information from the email, and said they would contact me in a few days. Well my son's birthday is on Saturday and I had to order a cake from a different bakery (Mr. Cake) as no one from Roeser's ever got back to me. Roeser's needs to do better with customer communication this experience was highly disappointing for a bakery with such a good reputation.

  • Miguel Angel

Roesers bakery is near my home and since we wanted to buy a Rosca de Reyes, (3 kings bread) we decided to stop by, I was not sure if they will have it or not but on the window they had 3 boxes showing the different sizes they had. There was a long line to get to the front, it took some time to get the service, most people were picking up cakes, some making orders. And some just picking up bread or donuts. After waiting that long, they told us they had run out of that bread. They could have saved us the time by either removing the boxes in the window or putting up a small sign that they were out of that bread. I know they were busy like always but that could have saved me some time this visit.

  • Joe R

Fantastic old fashioned bakery. Donuts, pastries of all shapes and sizes, cookies (sugar free too) of many many varieties, and cakes. Tons of cakes. I haven't tried a cake yet, but I will be getting my next cake from them. The pastries and donuts are everything you hope them to be. Fresh and moist, fried and crispy when and where they should be. They lack the crazy stuff that Stan's has, but they have inventive takes ok classic styles. The Seven sisters pastry is a crazy good pick up for a brunch party. It's pictured on the left side, had multiple fruits and cheese and frosting. The best part, the low prices. This place would charge literally twice as much if it was 1.5 miles East.

  • K Guerrero

I order cakes here every year for my daughter’s birthday, never have I had an issue. This year was a complete disaster. Sent pictures of what the cake should look like. The first Picture shows with the color scheme should be. Second picture shows what the top layer should look like. And the last picture is the cake they designed. I am extremely disappointed in their lack of attention to detail. I am super upset with how the cake was frosted. Looks nothing like the colors I showed them. Needless to say they’ve lost a loyal customer of nine years because of this. We will not be returning next year or years to come. Absolutely hate the way the cake is frosted.

  • Sandra Leon

I wished I would’ve have taken a picture of the cake after it was cut. I agree with a lot of reviews the cake was super crumbling. Sunday June 25 I picked a 10 inch vanilla and chocolate layered cake with strawberry filling. The decor was amazing more than what I expected since I had ordered it on the phone and gave description of decor I wanted, like I said I was surprised but once we cut the cake everything was falling apart. We couldn’t cut good pieces the strawberries were too big and cake was just crumbles. Strawberries should be cut smaller and I did mention easy on the strawberries over the phone. The cake cost $68 with change.

  • erincinco

Delicious pastries. Worth it. I can see (taste) how they've been in business for well over 100 years. Should you visit - and you should - be forewarned; the setup inside is small, cramped, and chaotic. They would benefit from having separate areas for cake pickup and counter orders. The women behind the counter seem like they have a handle on it, but they don't have much space behind the counter, either. A sign asking people to not berate the staff and to be patient makes it clear they struggle with the small space. So definitely go; and bring your patience and be kind to those hard workers bringing people their delicious treats.

  • Nedra Caston

I came to purchase a coconut cake stood in line for 30 minutes just to find out you sold the last one 5 minutes ago, I tried calling, but you guys don't answer the phone you really need to work on that, my co worker lives in the south suburbs tried calling for 3 days with no luck so I offered to come and placed the order I didn't want her to have to drive 45 minutes just to place the order. Your cakes are really good you might take away from your business if you guys don't do better and you can cut back a little on the fresh strawberries my cousin told me her the cake was falling apart they had use a spoon to serve it.

Roesers bakery is an institution in North avenue in the Logan square/Humboldt Park area. Look for the vintage sign on the building. It has been run by the same family since 1911. The bakery has a number of pastries from cookies to donuts to cakes to fun items in between. I know they do custom cakes for birthdays and weddings etc. They are always busy and there is often a line out the door So make sure you get there early! My favorite thing they make is some kind of pastry with cream and strawberries on it, I can't remember what it is called. They also serve homemade ice cream, which is a good treat in the summer.

  • jessi dominguez

I've grown up eating Roeser's cakes, but I'm sad to say my family was pretty disappointed these last times. We purchased 2 fruit filled cakes a week apart for birthdays and neither seemed like a fruit filled cake we'd come to expect after decades of using Roeser's bakery, especiallyfor the cost. Each slice had less than a third of it with strawberries, it was actually just super thin layer of red gel with barely any fresh strawberries. Super disappointed. I took a picture but can't load it for some reason. I wanted to get my own cake from Roeser's in 2 weeks, but I think it'll be a Nothin' Bundt cake instead.

  • Pedro A. “ALEX” Vignettes

For over 100 years Roeser's bakery has been the place for that special cake birthday or wedding It needs to be delicious and excellent to match a cake from them, we are Roeses bakery customers for the last 57 years without missing a single year and buying a cake for each member of the family's birth date (birthdays in our family come close to each other so we enjoy those even more) Every one of us has a different choice of flavor for our birthday cake just like any other family Personnel has changed and ownership has also passed from parents to siblings but the quality still the same Enjoy it while it last

I ordered a Deadpool cake, Daniel tiger cake, a Punisher, and several different cakes over the past 15 years and I am always impressed by the creativity and the presentation of each cake. I traveled from Dekalb, IL every birthday for my kids to order a cake. Also, before I even purchase a cake, I always contact John Via email to get an estimate and an idea if the cake can be made. He's very responsive to my emails. I will show pictures later.. Here's the pictures.. I just purchased a LOL cake for my daughters 4th birthday.. All I can say, is Wow! It was so beautiful.. Thank you Roeser..

  • seville perkins

I grew up on this place for over 3 decades my family been getting birthday cakes from here and I was extremely disappointed in a cake I ordered that was made terribly wrong and was told they weren't going to anything about my disagreeable. I ordered a cake that would have the melted chocolate look but my cake was covered in chocolate melts. In turn made the cake impossible to cut, total disaster. I see where they thought to use the melts were a good idea but only for the effect at the top not the entire cake. Horrible and didn't even offer a discount. I am no longer a customer.

  • Bisrat Goytom

Ordering my son's birthday cake was not a pleasant experience. The customer service which is the order taker was exceptionally rude and combative. I didn't ask for her name but I'm sure this is not her first time showing such an attitude. I hope someone will sit and talk with her. I'm a person who believes in change. On another point about my cake, the filling of the cake was much ticker than the actual layers of the cake. Also the fruit filled in was not freshed as was told. As a returned customer, I was very disappointed . They just lost me as a customer.

  • Bionca Johnson

My family and myself have been buying cakes and pastries from them for as long as I can remember their business have became very popular but their products have slacked off the cake is just okay and more than once the spelling has been wrong when it comes to simple things like the word thirty or something but for the most part the bakery is very family friendly and I love their strawberry filled glazed donuts and the strawberry cheesecake cake slices they are still one of my favorites in the city and I will be doing business with them again

  • Blanca Saucedo

I placed an order a week ago and I needed to cool down before I wrote a review. The cake itself was nothing like the picture I had requested. I Was charged for extra extra extra with no results of what I had really wanted. I understand that the ebt is accepted they definitely take advantage of it. The cake was very thick and nasty! Before you order please rethink . I would never recommend this place to no one. The cake was thrown out no one from my party liked it. Very sad that my special was ruined with a cake that was very expensive.

  • Krystal Rodriguez

They have great cookies and other pastries. However, if you are in the market for a personalized cake I would look elsewhere. The cakes are never ready on time and the order is almost always wrong. Most recently a friend of mine placed an order for a baby shower cake in blue. The cake wasn’t ready on time and to top it all off it was purple!! We didn’t take the cake. There was no sympathy or solutions offered from the manger of employees. They do need to make some changes and do some retraining. They’re cookies are perfection though!!!

  • Alexandra Perez

I had ordered a Spider-Man cake for the 3 year old birthday party. The cake was supposed to be blue with webs, and a city landscape in the top. When I opened the cake it was pink! No webs in the whole cake and the city landscape was like if a kid had done it, I was even charged an extra fee for the city landscape. I am super disappointed with bakery, I think the worst part is that it was supposed to be for a boy and they made it pink. This is a joke of a bakery, I will never be ordering from them again or recommending to anyone else.

  • Shunie Horn

I ordered a cake for a baby shower. It was to be a 5 layer cake. The cake was not secured properly which caused the cake to slide. They supposedly fixed but when I opened the box the caked was cracked at the bottom. There was supposed to be a plate separating the layers it didn't cover the whole cake so the 2nd layer wasn't a full layer of cake but just a filling of butter creme. They didn't offer compensation for the time I had to wait for them to "fix the cake". They also as I stated earlier didn't actually rectify the issue.

The negative reviews here are silly. This place is awesome. I made 5 separate purchases between november and december. I took some pastries over to my Gfs house and her parents loved them and even made their own trips after mine. It seems like people complain about color hues or rushed frosting squiggles. I’m sure those food network cakes charge an arm and 2 legs for those cakes. People will remember the taste, not the design. Thanks Roesers. Ive been a customer since my baptism and intend on being one forever.

I've ordered 1 cake, picked up another cake for a coworker, and have had may pastries from this bakery. They are the favorite bakery in my office. The cakes were beautiful and everybody loved the decorations and the decadent flavours. Each time I go, I try something new and I haven't had anything short of delicious so far. The staff are nice and pleasant. If you are going to order a custom cake, do your best to give them 2 weeks as they deserve the ability to plan ahead. If you have a chance, I would try them.

  • David Gonzales

This place was once the bakery to order your cakes. I ordered a cake which when we cut into it the cake just crumbled apart. I called to order this cake twenty five time and every time I got a voice message until finally I had to go to the bakery to order it. This place isn't the same anymore. My family has been ordering cakes from this bakery since 1976 and now it's time for my family to find somewhere else to order our cakes. Very poor poor customer service, it's a shame this place isn't what it use to be.

  • Stephen Jones

I love this bakery. They are always busy and there's a reason for it. My only complaint is that all of the employees will tie themselves up doing cake orders while the line builds. They should have someone just handling ready baked goods to keep the line moving. UPDATE: This review received a quick response from Roeser's and the last time I was there, someone was handling donuts and coffee to keep the line moving. I feel guilty for ever giving them 4 stars when they deserve 5.

  • Tempi McCurry

My family, friends and I have been purchasing Roeser's cakes for 40 years. Best cake in the world! I've taken this cake to Ohio, Iowa, Kankakee for all occasions and sometimes just because I want a slice of cake. People have to understand all prices increase, especially when it's made to order. The service has always been exceptional for me. I just had a cake for my birthday and possibly for Valentines Day. Please continue your Great Service and Taste.

  • Lucreshia Grant

I purchased a specific cake for my son birthday on September 3rd. The cakes use to be fresh however this particular cake was old and crumbled when cut. They also charged extra for fondant that they did not use. They merely printed out a picture of a airplane and stuck it on the cake. They plate over rated now the service sucks. They never answer their phones or emails. I have been attempting to speak with someone for weeks now about my bad experience.

  • LaVeda Hollingsworth

I ordered my grandmother's 90th birthday cake from them and it was so moist and delicious. That is why I called on them again for my grandmother's 99th birthday cake, but it's like the recipe has changed, the cake was dry, and I should have gotten whipped cream instead of buttercream because it was too sweet. I had so much cake leftover cause nobody wanted to take any home. The three stars is for the presentation because the cake was beautiful.

  • Alicia Arroyo

I can't begin to tell you how wonderful John is. I love that when I give him an idea he makes it a dream and his cakes become the centerpiece to all my themes. John my family has done business with you for over 40 years and you will always be part of my family events. Thank you for all that you do. You're a Pablo Picasso in the baking and you're art is exquisite. I love you dearly. Keep being amazing and may your family Legacy continue.

I can't go in here too often or one of these days I won't be able to get out!! Science says sugar is more addictive than heroin. I can't make the comparison but I do know I crave sugar 24/7/365! Lucky me I'm not a couch potato, but I digress. EVERYTHING is wonderful in here! Friendly staff and plenty of it to help you and IMO It. Is. CHEAP!! Get in here for some great goodness if this is your style! I have a date with some sweetness! Bye!

  • Alison

Was lucky enough to snag the last chocolate cream cheese bundt cake at like 4:30pm on a Sunday and it was a showstopper! Prettiest cake and so rich and moist, honestly blew away my expectations. We've also stopped in for pastries before and they were amazing as well. Haven't had a dessert here that wasn't absolutely exceptionally delicious. We live close by and this spot will be our go-to for desserts. Especially when bringing to a party!

  • Angelica Toscano

I have always ordered here never had an issue before until my last two orders they are empty from the inside once you cut into it the whole cake starts breaking apart their isn’t not even a full nice slice is all like a crumble cake. Why? I don’t know and the cakes aren’t cheap neither. The frosting was also super sugary. What’s going on with you guys..We didn’t and couldn’t eat the cake the whole cake is still in the fridge.

  • Monica Vela

They had multiple buttercream cake flavors available for same day purchase, which is great for any late planners. The cake contains actual fruit! However, the cake tasted like the cake used for tres leches cakes. This means it was drier than I usually like for buttercream cakes. The strawberries were fresh and tasty but the jelly was an odd fake flavor. The buttercream itself was great! Overall a great last minute option.

  • Rolo

Much like the now closed Dinkel’s; Roeser’s is a much loved bakery in the heart of Humbolt Park neighborhood for over 100 years. This is an iconic and excellent bakery. I chose a few of the many tasty treats settling for red velvet cupcake, tiramisu, bundlette, napoleon and a cream filled donut. Im looking forward to making this place a to-go for those special times, or just any day that end in “y”. (Closed Mondays)

  • Brandon Frale

Really good stuff but the line just does not move, so I don't find it worth coming in usually. I get waiting in a long line and have no problem with that, but the line can be only a few people deep and you're still not getting out with your donut for at least 20 minutes at best. If they could have one person that didn't take cake orders and helped everyone else coming in to keep the line moving this would be 5 stars

  • Renita Hudson

Have been a customer for years, but in recent years, there has been a sharp decline in quality of their products AND customer service. I ordered four cakes in the last two years, of the four, only one cake was up to the standard of quality that I HAD been accustomed to from Roeser's. Sadly, I'm disappointed that the bakery I've patronized for over 30 years is no longer my "go to" for custom cakes and baked goods.

  • Zachary Newcomb

Ordered a huge cake for my son's first birthday party, and while it looked very nice, I was pretty embarrassed to serve it to friends and family. It just didn't taste good at all. Texture was dry and flavor was very "meh". Needless to say we didn't get one compliment and noticed almost nobody finished their slice, much less wanted more. Been a loyal customer for a few years but very disappointed to say the least.

  • mirka barrios

Went into the store to ask about birthday cakes only to encounter a very rude worker with an attitude while I asked her questions about the sizes she rolled her eyes at me and was sarcastically answering all my questions like she was annoyed. Worst customer service ever, didn’t know her name but she had green eyes and was light skin. I usually shrug off bad service but this was just unnecessary attitude

  • A F (Blanca)

Good job on the B-day cake , I bought a banana pudding cup too ,it was good but they don't make it every day , they make it on random days,so ul be lucky if you ,see it there ,when u go... sadly. But Customer service was good,no complaints.

I have been coming to the bakery since I was a little girl. Till this day, Roeser's has always done their best! They are just wonderful. From their cakes, donuts, cookies and fresh breads! I was just there last week to get a butter ring! Wow! Thank you Roeser's, I absolutely love you and appreciate you. I can't forget the staff, they are always smiling and kind. Thank you ✨☺️☺️

  • Aimee Pedroza

This place is really good. Since I was young my parents always purchase cakes from here. It never disappoints. However. With time I've noticed that the bakery no longer smells like a bakery should; it smells like weed. I get it. It's legal, but it's so unappealing to the nose (taste buds) if I go inside of Roeser's expecting free smells of deliciousness and instead get free hits of weed.

  • Bounce Houses R Us

This bakery is still the absolute best. I stoped by to get a danish and walked out with some extras!!! I am happy I grabbed the extra strawberry cake and cookies. It was the best strawberry cake I have had in a long time. The staff member I had was in training and was very nice and polite. I have always liked this bakery and will make sure to make more stops when I am in the city.

  • Deyki Nichols

I've had Roeser Cakes in the past and they used to be moist and real good. I just paid for an over price 4 tier cake that taste a lil corn breadish. If i had ordered each tier by them selves with each being a different shade of purple i would've came out much cheaper. The cake looked good but nothing was added or suggested to at least show me where this cake was worth $422

  • Jasmine Shahbaz

Omg don't even know where to start been going here for over 25 yrs the only place I would trust in making the best cakes ever they never disappoint me it's now my tradition to get my daughter's birthday cake and they be so excited because they already know the cake is going to be not only beautifully made but also delicious thank you so much keep up the good work

  • Greeni828 Nuni

Ordered a cake for my friends baby shower and I was very disappointed. The cake was over 2 hours late from the time I placed the order for not to mention once we cut the cake it totally fell apart leaving nothing but a smooshed strawberry mess! No apology or discount even offered after $161.00 purchase! I gave 3 stars for good coffee cake and nice decorations

  • Mat Koi

Order #3459 I ordered a tres leches cake for pick up (over $125) for my wedding and when my husband and I cut into it to share with our guests it was still frozen. It was very embarrassing and did not taste moist how it should due to it being frozen in the center. The bakery should have defrosted it by the pick up time. Response: how will you “make it right?”

  • Alexander Cruz

Family favorite bakery and their staff are amazing. Strawberry Short cake and Mary Ann are our favorite. For more than 30 years we have been going to this place and never disappoints. Roeser’s Bakery is an iconic place for locals.People that are not from Chicago its a most visit place to crave for sweets.

I love this place. Friendly service, great cakes and pastries for a fair price. BUT whyyyyyy don’t they have a pick up line? If you order a cake in advance you have to be prepared to stand in line for 30 min to pick it up while other people are placing cake orders. Anyhoo…I love Roeser’s but be prepared to wait no matter what time of day you go!

  • Jackie Santana

HONESTLY I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH ROESERS THIS YEAR. PAID $85 FOR A CUPCAKE CAKE AND IT LOOKED AWESOME BUT THE QUALITY/TASTE WAS HORRIBLE. NEVER HAD SUCH A DRY OVERCOOKED CUPCAKE IN MY LIFE. THEY TRIED TO SAVE IT BY FILLING THEM WITH WHIP CREAM PUT IT WAS STILL PRETTY BAD. WON’T BE GOING BACK FOR A WHILE. I HOPE THEY GET IT TOGETHER.

  • Tom Greenan

It’s been years since I’ve been Roeser’s Bakery, it hasn’t changed a bit in all these years. I always get the whipped cream and strawberries sitting on top of yellow cake and their chocolate cake donuts with fudge on top. There’s always enough staff because of the crowds. Get your next special occasion cake here they’re “dee-lish”.

  • Melissa Landecho

I ordered 2 cakes and both came out poorly. I paid $10 for fondant pieces to be added on the cake and it was never added. I asked for the other cake to be colored in green and it was white instead. Mara helped with my first cake and "sprayed the cake in green" but the other cake was still missing the fondant. Very disappointed.

  • Evelyn Suncin

They baked my cake for NY baby shower. Absolutely loved it. Came in the shape of a bassinet with a quote and my daughters name. Was able to get roses and edible pink sparkly spray on it. Tasted amazing and had two fillings for cheap compared to other bakeries. Definitely would love to have them make the cake for her next party!

  • Neal Moeller

Got a birthday cake for my kid. Huge success! Fed 11 adults and 10 kids. Everyone loved it. Fantastic buttercream, moist cake, beautiful presentation. Couldn’t be happier.

I come here whenever I need a birthday cake, it is always clean , customer service is great. I love this place .❤️ bonus is that they accept EBT they have e more than just cake. I will be posting my sons Fortnite cake in June.I am so excited thank you Roeser's Bakery …

  • LaShonda Riley

I’ve been a customer for over 25 years and the cakes have been great, but the last 2 years I want to say haven’t been the best. I’m assuming maybe some of the senior bakers have retired and lack of employees. I will still continue to patronize because I have faith in Roeser’s Bakery!!!

  • Miracle Abraham

The customer service here suck the nasty attitude I have gotten the last few times I have been here to get my kids a cake is unbelievable I will never come here again Oak Park here I come. If you don’t like your job find a new one.

Ordered a simple birthday cake for about 8-10 people. Was charged $100 so I was expecting great quality for the price. The bread was very dry and crumbly almost tasted old. The writing was off center and sloppy. Very rushed. Definitely not worth the price at all. Would look else where

  • Jac G

Horrible phone service. Never answer or return important messages. Their cakes are decorated so sloppy! It was so crowded there's no room to actually view all the details of the cake. Don't know what happened to them. Look at the sloppiness of this cake, the edges, middle, & name.

  • Erasmo Torrez

Wow is all I have to say. This place is amazing. Everything we bought was made to perfection. We ordered 2 cakes. Only have picture of 1 of them. Gauva and cheese pop over was perfectly ratioed, we also got a hazelnut little snack , no picture but was told it was excellent.

  • Deborah Snyder

They have gods cakes but I had ordered cupcakes and they took my number down wrong so when it was time to pick up my order they were not ready and I had to wait over an Hour for them to fix the order make sure your contact info is correct but they came out really nice.

  • Samir Warty

Always a great option for donuts and cakes and other pastries at very reasonable prices. The occasional line/wait is worth it. I only started going to Roeser's in 2022 after living nearby for over 10 years. Still kicking myself for waiting so long to check them out.

  • Rocy Garcia

I ordered a $75 cake it was VERY DISGUSTINGLY DRY, no flavor whatsoever, I wouldn’t even pay $10 for something like this. All of my guests were complaining about how dry & flavorless it was. Never again. The old owners made amazing cakes but now this place is gross.

Roeser's is my local bakery and they never disappoint! Our friend wanted a bottle cake, so we made the chocolate covered strawberries and added the bottles! The cake was delicious with banana and strawberry filling and layered yellow and chocolate sponge cake.

  • James Codispoti

Love, love, love this Bakery. Down the street from my house. Good prices at and they sell ice cream as well. I suggest you try one of everything they have and then go back for your favorites, biggest problem you're going to have is finding just one favorite.

  • I Holt

Always have a positive experience getting our birthday cakes at Roeser's. The staff is always helpful. There was a trainee that serviced our cake pick up yesterday who made sure our special birthday cake was as expected! Beautiful cake, happy customer.

  • Tamara Cole

Ordered a gender reveal cake for my gender reveal. They pretty much exposed the gender, and the cake itself was terrible. I ordered buttercream because I hate whip cream and the cake had whip cream frosting and the actually cake itself was very dry.

  • Angel Milton

As soon as my mom and I walked through the door, Mayret immediately greeted us and made us feel welcomed. With all of the pressure of trying to find the best cake idea for my birthday, she tended to us with patience and care and even better

  • Bob Schultz

The customer service at Roeser’s is top notch. I showed up after they closed (the hours had changed due to CoVID and wasn’t public on google) and John opened the store back up for me so I could get a cake. They had a great selection even at

  • Latasha Chatman

The cakes are always delicious, expensive but well worth the money. Staff is low, so sometimes you may have to wait a bit to be served, but time well spent. I ordered two baby shower cakes two weeks apart and the guests really enjoyed them.

I had ordered a cake for my birthday, the cake was very cute but the inside was so dry. Like if the cake itself was old. I don’t know what’s with the new cake they have being dry. Been coming here for years and this was disappointing

Ordered a banana and strawberry cake April 7 the banana side wasn't done it was mushy and not cooked all the way thru and the cake was more FROSTING than Cake will not recommend or by from there again I came all the way from Indiana

My birthday just passed and my children and fiancé chose the BEST cupcakes. Red velvet with cream cheese toppings and a strawberry New York style cheesecake. The BOMB! We loved it and appreciated the staff being so friendly!

  • Kathleen Shanahan

We ordered custom cookies to use as party favors for a corporate event. The order process went smoothly and the team at Roeser's did an outstanding job. The cookies looked incredible and tasted even better. They were a hit!

  • Amanda Rose

Cakes, cookies, and doughnuts!!! What more do you want! Get the custard doughnut! Any of them are to die for! Also, get a banana bite. So yum! You know when you’re standing in line for a food place, going to be really good.

  • Denny Torres

Drove 100 miles round trip 2 days in a row to get my daughter a strawberry and banana cake. That should tell you how good the cake is. Well she is 30 now and you guess it she wanted a cake from Roser's again. Great job guys

  • Roberto Santiago

My family have been buying cakes here since the 70's for a reason, the cake here is fresh, moist, and tasty. Establishment has been here for over 100 years. I am definitely a repeat customer. The cupcakes are yummy.

  • Tahsin Rahman

I’ve lived in Asia, EU and the USA. Definitely will be in my top 3 list. It’s a no brainer why they’ve in business for 100 years - exceptional taste, top notch customer service and no too pricy. Absolutely loved it.

  • Diana U

My family got me my graduation cake from this place and I absolutely LOVED IT!!!! it was such a beautiful cake and it tasted so good and was not dry at all! I will def be getting my future cakes from this place!

  • living_life_1

Great service the women who took care of me was very helpful. I had a special request for a cake and they didn't hesitate to make it happen. Hard to find employees & companies like this keep up the good work!

  • Judy Jackson

Roeser has a free parking lot next to the building. Food is always delicious. The only bad thing is it is always crowded so expect a wait. The food is worth the wait. They even serve ice cream.

  • Patricia Hobson

I Love Roeser's. We order all our cakes from them. They do a good job. We order our Wedding Cake from them. September 26, 2021 and My Bridal Shower Cake August 28, 2021. Thank you so much
