Long time shopper at Rouses and have watched the deterioration and disorganization of this place for quite some time. Aisles not clearly marked (above and below) so, customers are constantly getting in the wrong lines or getting skipped over. Long wait times once you do get in line, because they normally do not have enough people working the registers. There are some particularly rude staff members there as well: the older white woman, slim with glasses and long hair, the shorter, older black lady with glasses and the tall young black man with curly hair who wears it through a baseball cap and also wears glasses. At this location items seem to be in the weirdest places. Those staff members that I described, openly in front of customers, talk about customers being stupid and or not knowing which aisle to get into or that they’re ready for a vacation, which is quite passive aggressive to do especially in front of customers whom are spending their money during a time of high inflation, etc. The security guards that work the front door are the nicest folks there and the Lady that works in the back in the deli as well. Rouses brings in far too much money for this sort of disorganization. And because it is such a small location compared to its other shops, they need to be the most diligent about organization. After the way I’ve watched the staff treat customers, I’m done shopping there. I was already conflicted about shopping there due to the fact that their owner participated in January 6 events. Google it if you don’t know what I’m referring to.

I have lived and worked in the French Quarter since 2010, and have made groceries almost exclusively here all this time. I've always had a great experience, have spent 10s of thousands of dollars over the years, and most of the older employees know me on a first name basis. This evening I went in to grab a few small items and while the store was not very crowded, there were 3 parties ahead of me and the line was moving very slowly. I patiently waited my turn, only to start putting my items on the counter and be told by a very rude cashier with a sharp attitude that she was on break. I replied that I'd been waiting, only to be told that "that had nothing to do with her." She proceeded to go over to the cashier at the very end of the registers, obnoxiously and loudly complain about me saying that I had been waiting, then come back to her register and resume to check people out. Much of the younger staff was quite visibly stoned and acting like they were at a house party. I have never been treated poorly in any way by the staff at Rouse's before. I feel completely disrespected and will shop elsewhere even though it's much less convenient. Avoid the Royal Street location if at all possible.

On occasions when I haven't brought my own lunch from home, I might set aside my distaste of the owner's support for Donald Trump's 1/6 violent coup attempt. I am nevertheless almost always disappointed, at best - or disgusted. Today, the hot plate lasagna was burned black at the bottom, but they still put it out and sold it. It was so disgusting, I may return it. Previously, food poisoning has resulted from the hot food section. Produce is reliably shriveled and rotting on the shelves. This place is filthy on the inside, and customers often have to wade through smelly loiterers outside. The French Quarter should have a better grocery store option. 1/24/2023 update: Again, I found green mold growing on cheese. Whether it's bad food product, or support for sedition, the owners don't need your business. I should stick to my plan of bringing a lunch to work.

The store is great and Rouse's service is usually great. However today (1/8/22), the cashier (female, glasses, AA, no name tag) was very rude and made me feel like I was not welcome. She mumbled behind her mask and told me that I was in the wrong aisle (this particular day!). When I said I didn't hear her she said, "That's because you weren't paying attention to me!" I asked, "So I wasn't paying attention to you?!" "That's right!" Then she sarcastically told me, "Have a nice day," I felt like telling her off. The manager was right behind her and never said a word. I seldom write reviews unless service is exceptional - today was one of those days. Disappointing.

Don’t let the size fool you. These folks know their market and the store is very well stocked. I live around the corner and usually visit about three times a week. I can’t remember ever needing something they did not have. They cater to the people of the French Quarter and know what to stock. It can get incredibly busy, especially around Noon or when there is a festival or event in town. The lines at the registers can be long, but do move fast. They carry nice produce, have a large wine and liquor department and their prices are in line. They also have a small meat and cheese department with a good variety especially given the size of the store.

For such a beautiful market, this market was missing the more eclectic, finer selections. John the parking lot attendant was fantastic! The liquor store had a phenomenal selection. The store is absolutely clean and pristine. There's covered parking if you order ahead and want your food delivered to your car. But I went to find exclusive chocolates and as fast as his store was I was surprised at how little the selection there was. There's nothing like 88% cocoyo chocolate in my coffee every morning. Along with a dollop of coconut oil, butter, salt, Splenda. Still was a nice visit. I would return for sure!

Rouses Market is conveniently located near the heart of the French Quarter and our hotel 3 blocks away. The market seems small from the street view but they have a fairly large selection of items offered at a much larger grocery stores. Items include pre made deli meals, snacks, produce, dairy, alcohol, personal items and other household products. I was impressed with their hot sauce and Cajun seasoning selections and prices. A 4 oz bottle of Crystals Hot Sauce was only $1.47 as compared to the same item at a nearby tourist souvenir shop price around $5.

We stopped in to get a light lunch to take back to our hotel on a Saturday and we were pleasantly surprised by how well stocked this store was given its size. There were a lot of cool things to an out of towner and we were able to still get a very local type lunch even though we stopped at a grocery store. Lines moved fast though the cashier was far more concerned with their personal conversations than with assisting customers. But if I was local I’d be here a lot!

  • Naomi Sprung

This us a crowded market with narrow aisles, but the place is hopping and happening! They are so friendly and helpful and polite. It is much larger than it seems from the outside, and it feels like it goes on forever! They have tons of liquor and food and paper goods and meat and gosh and drinks and pretty much anything you need. They keep the lines moving pretty fast and it’s actually fun to shop there!!

I'll give this full service French Quarter market 4 stars. I do have one thing to voice. There is an older female employee who was recently extremely rude to me although I go to the market sometimes twice each week. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but I feel there was no call for her attitude. I really didn't respond to her but she continued her rudeness as I left the store after my purchase.

This locations late night hours are incredibly convenient for service workers in the French Quarter. They have a decent enough selection for a tiny grocer. The employees are sassy but in a good way. The prices are a bit higher than other locations but nothing I wouldn't expect in the quarter. I am willing to pay for the convenience of a grocer open until 1am, a mere block from where I work.

Who’d a thunk itA supermarket right in the middle of Royal street. Well I’m glad it was there and that I went in because I found a seasoning a friend had asked for me to buy while I was in New Orleans. And I got it cheaper than the souvenir shops were charging by $2+ Cha-Ching! They have a guy that opens the door for you, security maybe, and helpful employees too.

Anytime I travel to a touristy area and need a grocery store I expect to get gouged on prices to some degree. I was pleasantly surprised that this store in the heart of the French quarter had good prices on everything I needed. Also the amount of stock that they cram in here is pretty awesome. They usually will have what you need. Cool store.

  • Greg Britt

I will not be able to continue to shop here as a local. The service cashier for 2 days in a row has refused a $100.00 bill. I am a local visitor to my corner grocer and I don't think it is unrealistic to ask them to accept a 100 bill at 7-8 pm at night. She was rude, short and a poor customer service provider and example for Rouse's

  • Art Without Fear

Much love to Sammantha! She’s my favorite cashier, and always sends me off with a smile and warm energy! This is my go to grocery store when in the French Quarters. Love the staff, consistency in fresh produce, and clean store. Pricey but worth it. No parking. They also have a large selection of liquor, bar and home supplies.

  • Jill Dahlburg

This is a perfect corner grocery. Has all the essentials, even Hubig's Pies, right by the cash register -- chocolate ones now, too! Produce is fresh; cold, local Holy Roller beer is sold by the can; nuts, crackers, chips, Elmer's CheeWees, packaged salads and sandwiches abound; and the staff is both efficient and friendly.

  • April Bennington

For a grocery store that’s smaller than today’s average supermarket, they have managed to have the vast majority of what I needed on any given shopping trip. Last time it was anchovies. They had ‘em! Then there’s the added benefit of the chance to see Doreen Ketchens and her family performing outside on Royal Street.

  • Will Matthews

Great grocery in the middle of the French Quarters. This place will have everything you need whether you are looking for something to cook in your hotel, a quick snack or a refreshing drink. Staff is friendly and helpful. The place is well stocked and merchandised well for the limited space they have. Thanks Rouses!

  • Greg Kleinprinz

Better late than never. Unfortunately we didn't run across this until the last day we we were staying. No price gouging in the French Quarter. We stopped in to see how much Vodka cost and ended up leaving with a basket full of beer for the night, the Vodka, a bunch of seasoning, sausage . . .... Very happy

  • Bobby-Bogdan Mihoc

It takes 30 minutes just to buy a $1 bottle of water. Every time the line is through the entire length of the store. They just don't care. One sleepy cashier every time, for the masses of people. It's like this is not the private sector. They just don't want people and don't want sales, I guess.

  • Dylan Rich

I’m a local and come here all the time. Today, another customer was having trouble understanding the line situation. I explained it to her and she was understanding. The cashier who witnessed the situation was not. She followed me outside, came up to me and told me to “eat sh$t and die”.

  • Nicole Vidal

I only put 4 stars because I've noticed this with all Rouses, they are phasing out variety by stocking more and more of their own products. Also their produce is always 1/2 dead by the time you get it. Basically either shop daily for you need or buy produce from somewhere else.

  • Brenna Belanger-Sage

Great little grocery store within walking distance of our hotel. Nice to be able to grab snacks, breakfasts, and drinks without paying a premium at restaurants. Although it was a bit confusing to navigate thr aisles, we were able to find everything we needed.

  • Will Juntunen

Okay, listen up people. Save your money. Go to Rouse's on Royal by the cathedral. Buy yourself a nice chicken dinner from the display near the door. Keep walking to the east wall, lined with coolers. Every drink you could possibly want to

  • Anandi Premlall

Quick stop to get essentials for dinner, pick up hot lunch options, or to grab cookies, yummy desserts and cakes. Not a huge selection of produce, but it's fresh and stocked frequently as it's a small super market with plenty of shoppers.

  • James Davis (Droplife)

Smack dab right in the middle of the quarter and is very convenient when you're hungry and you need the munchies like ASAP Rouses Market is not very far from anywhere and I like shopping at Rouses Market and supporting their causes when

  • Jon Juan

I have shopped here so many times every time I am in NOLA. The best spot to buy booze while in the middle of The French Quarter!! I always stay at Bourbon Orleans Hotel so this is a quick walk back to the room... or back to Bourbon st...

  • Chasity J.

Convenient for tourist and locals whom reside in the French Quarter. Prices are no different from other Rouses, but they do not follow the company’s weekly sales ad. Clean, but extremely tiny space-as expected with French Quarter shops.

  • Camille

Well-stocked store with a lot of affordable on the go food options! Salads, poke bowls, wraps, sandwiches, fresh and staple products, there's something for everyone in the middle of the French Quarter!

  • Sean C

They manage to pack a lot of stuff inside this small but clean and well organized supermarket. We were able to find everything we needed and prices are reasonable

  • Kevin Jensen

Our most visited place in the French quarter and always a pleasure. They have all you need, and mostly more affordable than Walgreens.

  • Scott

Good spot to pick up some groceries, drinks, supplies. Órale, tamales a todas madre, aqui. Habla con el compa que está en la esquina

  • Danzil Deakle

You have to know where Rouses’ is so you can duck off in there for a second or two in the Louisiana Summertime!!

  • Chad Buchfink

Great place to grab a couple drinks and a snack while walking the quarter. Save a few bucks and buy beer here.

  • Tim Frantz

Great place if you need groceries. Closes at 10pm. Large selection of stuff. Great location.

  • Michael Rouse

Love their variety of food selections. Everything was delicious and tasty. - Michael R.
