31/10/22: Halloween. Photo update. Quite a niche Arcade, containing jewelry shops, gentleman's outfitters, a hairdressing salon, a Whiskey Emporium and a card shop, featuring beautiful ornaments & gifts. It boasts a little coffee shop and a small eatery for snacks. Moderately expensive, compared to like establishments within the City. Most of the Royal Exchange building was built by Mills and Murgatroyd between 1867 and 1874. Modified in 1914 by Bradshaw, Gass & Hope, giving it an Edwardian exterior. In 1921 the building was officially opened. The Great Hall was once even greater – in fact, it was twice the size, and known as the ‘largest room in the world’. The building took a devastating hit during the Manchester Blitz in 1940. Reduced in size, the Hall was repaired and the Cotton trade continued until 1968. To this day, if you look up, you can still see the original trading board with the day’s closing figures. A theatre company took up residence in 1973. In 1976, under five artistic directors – Braham Murray, Casper Wrede, Michael Elliott, Richard Negri and James Maxwell, and soon joined by Greg Hersov – the Royal Exchange Theatre Company opened its doors. In 1996, an IRA bomb exploded just fifty metres away from the Royal Exchange building, having a devastating effect on the building. It was reopened by Prince Edward in 1998.

Shops are mostly luxury good and items. Couple of places to have coffee and cakes. High Street goods and brands with prices to match. Non-functional shopping - if you shop here, it will not be not be with a purpose to find a specific item but more so for the experience.

Really nice grand building that's well maintained. The restaurants in here all look really good. We only visited Mowgli and that was absolutely delicious so we will definitely be returning to eat there again and most likely to try one of the other restaurants.

We just walked,I was pushed in my wheel chair,up & down this arcade. There are lots of individual shops, beautifully presented & a very handsome bulldog at one of them that came to say hello.Everything looked really clean & well decorated for Christmas.

More of a boutique high street with higher priced and quality products. Ideal to have all in one place if you are within this price range for gifts/things for yourself. The arcade is well looked after and all shops filled.

This place has a wonderful sociable place #michaelscoffeehouse Serving the best Cappuccinos, Teas, Smoothies , Toasted sourdough sandwiches, soups and THE BEST friendly team. Kindness wins everytime …

  • Paul

Once a great boutique shipping arcade but now it's sadly declining. Being pestered by tramps, big issue sellers and charity scammers is a good reason to avoid this place along with St Anne's Square.

  • Michael McGinn

A superb restoration of a nineteenth century trading house, with a fabulous theatre in the round, cafe and crafts shop selling a variety of items including ceramics jewellery .

  • Visitors In Manchester

Located in one of Manchester's most iconic listed buildings, you'll find some of the world's favourite high-street brands, nice cafes, jewelries and bidy treatments there.

The arcade itself was great, lovely setting, good location. However, the aroma of stale urine penetrated everything so we had to leave.
