"This school is overall not that bad the only thing I hate about strive is an individual teacher you might say hate is a strong word but you can ask any student and they’ll say it’s an understatement to describe him he constantly is rude to students inside his room he decided to record us the student to show the administrators but many students did not want to be recorded who knows ,he could have used it for other “reasons” many students told me he’s racist I asked why they said a white student was asleep in his class but a black put her head down for a second and instantly the teacher said “Get Up! (Students name)” and my experience with him is the worst he’s constantly giving students and me whispering lectures and no one wants to smell his breath like to be honest he his breath is a dump in a dump and most students hate him and like I said hate is an understatement to describe him! Like I said the school isn’t that bad it’s good the other teachers are awsome and principal is also good "

Communication amongst staff is terrible. Structure of the school is very unorganized. Academically my kid was bored same material from the pervious school but a lesser grade. Took my child’s purse even after she told them she had her emergency inhaler in there and a doctors note. I had to contact the principal so the other teachers would allow her to carry it. Power went out, school was a suana my child asked to call home she was told “no sit there like everyone else” by one teacher. Even after notes from the doctor’s office were sent regarding her asthma. She finally asked another teacher and he allowed her to use his cell phone. I never received my child’s uniforms I ordered 2 months before school started & I withdrew my kid in this month & still haven’t received them. The uniform company takes your money but never responds after purchase. I emailed the principal she said she was suppose to contact them but who knows she never got back with me. Only had one teacher who would be consistent with communication and check emails. My kid was sent to detention by mistake. Staff apologized to me but no one really took blame basically blamed it on my kid for doing what she was instructed to you. It’s a list of reasons why your child shouldn’t go to this school. I should have listened to all the parents who told me it was a bad idea to enroll my child. Staff is super friendly on the tours and orientation that’s an illusion. Teachers have flat out not respond to my child when she either asked a question or was trying to communicate. They have no respect for the children. If you have a child with disciplinary problems this is the perfect school. The staff treats every kid as if they are a disciplinary problem. My respectable ,honor roll, happy ,enthused about school ,who never got in any trouble child started to hate school after one month in Strive. Even though I now pay a monthly tuition for her to go to school, I’m thankful she’s no longer in that situation.

My daughter has attended Strive for 4 years. We were one of the founding families and we will truly miss Strive next year. We have seen the school grow and improve over the years. Ms.Butler and the teachers at Strive have went above and beyond for my daughter treating her like family. While some parents at other schools complain about lack of communication. Strive is the opposite. You will receive calls, emails, and texts on a weekly basis concerning school activities and your child's progress. If my daughter ever had a question about her school work her teachers were one text or email away. Their is a zero tolerance bullying policy and a fight at Strive is a rare thing. I never had to worry about my child's safety. I have seen the school go from not having a sports program,to competing in the YMCA leagues to now competing with metro schools. Many teams making it to the division tournament competing with the best schools in the city. This year for the 8th grade class they set up tours with not only the stundents zoned schools but also magnet, charter and private schools. They treated the entire process as if they were going to college. Letting them explore every school that they were interested in attending for high school . Because of this process my daughter is confident in her decision to go to Hume Fogg next year. They not only provide a great education but they are committed to helping their stundents think bigger. The stundents go on college tours of local colleges and also travel out state. End of the year trips out of town have included Memphis,Atlanta, St. Louis and this year D.C. I cant say enough great things about Strive. Its a great school that truly cares about their stundents.

Like I said the school isn’t that bad it’s good the other teachers are awsome and principal is also good . Unlike most schools this ones field trips are more fun than others and more educational. kinda boring. Incase of emergency which most schools prepare for and their drills are good. Second thinking this place? Don’t its an okay school and your child will be smarter here. Good school overall

I've only been here for a year but i dont think this is the school you want your child going to. Its super messy, unorganized, and they are not preparing you for highschool what so ever. You still walk in lines (which you will not in highschool). The food is literally trash and uneatable. They handle things like bullying poorly. The staff favors kids and acts like their best friends insted of their teachers and rarely punish them for things they do. They plan things 2 weeks in advance and give student council no time to plan. Its extremely hard for parents and kids to keep up and most the time we dont know till last minute. Even if their academics are good the learning environment is terrible. Most of the teachers are nice but im tired of kids being Favorited for being funny while the rest of us are doing our work and getting good grades. I dont think this school would be the best choice for you or your child.

This is our second year at Strive. It has been a great experience for our son. The teachers are dedicated, hard working and care about their students academic well being. The support staff are fantastic. They have been welcoming and appreciative of our involvement. Ms Butler, the principle cares about the students, and has a no tolerance for bullying. She works hard to provide a setting where students can grow. She makes efforts to evaluate progress and make changes necessary for student success. They run a tight ship at Strive and I am confident my son is in a safe place. Is Strive a perfect school, a school for everybody? No, I don't think that exists any where. Is there for room for growth and change? Absolutely, they are aware of that. I do believe it is a school that is worth serious consideration if you are looking for a middle school for your child

I have a daughter that attends this school and it is horrible. My daughter has come home multiple times complaining about a male teacher that is very rude and mean, he humiliates students and gives them write offs for punishments that do not deserve write offs. He has been know to say things such as "what are you white privilege" also has been seen hitting a student with an umbrella. My daughter has never had any disciplinary problems, but has had to go to reset multiple times and do write offs for no reason. My daughter is so scared to tell me anything that happens and is now have panic attacks about school that she must take medicine for. I feel that if someone would actually monitor the school and see how the teachers are treating the students then they would truly know what is going on.

We have been at STRIVE for 3 years and there is NOT ANOTHER SCHOOL I WOULD WANT MY CHILD TO GO TO. The teachers are dedicated (to say the least) about educating our children. You can tell that they are not there just to get a paycheck. There is a passion to push our children to be the best leaders and most productive members of society they can possibly be. The school founder, Lakendra Butler is the definition of a leader. The children love and adore her but she commands their respect; however not commanding in a threatening way, they (the children) know how to conduct themselves. All in all next year will be our last year and we are extremely sad to be leaving, but I STRONGLY suggest you urge any middle school aged children that you have or know to go to STRIVE Collegiate Academy.

I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. I've gone here for 4 years and I regret coming here because the community has ruined my mental health and made me hate school. It doesn't set you up for highschool or college because they still make you walk in lines to get to your classes. I've noticed that a lot of the teachers pick favorites. They ask for ways to make their school better but they're very stubborn and no matter how many times people ask for something to change they won't change it. Things like bullying aren't handled well and almost everyone who goes here hates it. I wouldn't recommend this school if you're thinking about sending your child here.

Strive is a great place for my child to get a good education. She has been going to school there since 5th grade and is now in 7th grade. The school and staff have been very nice and considerate of her and her needs. They have tutoring for children that need it. They are there to help her learn and help her gain knowledge that she needs to better herself as a person and they are there to help her to succeed in life. The staff and teachers are kind and loving. They are there for the children. They want what is best for the children. My child and myself have had nothing but good experiences here at Strive.

DO NOT ENROLL YOUR KIDS HERE. The bullying here is bad. My sister's go to strive and one of them comes back from home every day bullied by the other students, one kid threw a brick at a group of kids including her, she came home limping with a huge bruise on her leg, the school silenced the other kids, and refused to punish the student. Ms. Butler refuses most of our calls and beats around the bush or says she'll handle it but, hasn't tried to. Most of the staff also refuses to handle the bullying and acts like it's not happening.

My child has gone here for three years and absolutely loves it. I enrolled him there when I realized the middle school he was zoned for was a zoo for lack of a better term. Strive will push your child academically, take them on field trips, tour high schools, magnet schools. The teachers will hold them accountable when necessary and communicate with you too. Mrs. Butler, the principal, has a level of caring and concern unlike I’ve ever seen. The same can be said for Mrs. Bartlett as well as the entire staff.

My daughter started at Strive in 5th grade when they opened and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH HER IMPROVEMENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEARS! This is her last year and I am sad, however Strive will continue to watch her along the way to college. STRIVE is a different school that really cares about their students and takes pride in their future. Not on did my daughter's grades improve but her self esteem did as well. I highly recommend Strive Collegiate Academy. The teachers and staff are awesome!!! Rhonda Lien

I have been a staff member, both teacher and administrator, at STRIVE for four years, since the school's founding. I truly believe that we have the best students, parents, and faculty who want to grow in their profession, but also love their students unconditionally. Although I do not have children of my own, I have really enjoyed being apart of the STRIVE staff and would highly recommend anyone who is considering STRIVE as their next employment to come work here.

We are one of the many founding families at Strive. Our daughter has had a positive experience, we are very pleased with her educational growth and positive social development over the past four years. Mrs. Butler and staff really care about their students becoming well rounded positive individuals. It will be hard to see our daughter leave Strive. But we know that she is prepared for future success in her academic path.

I am so glad we chose Strive for my son. From the tour, to enrollment, to starting his first year, the process has been amazing. This is my second child in middle school and I've never seen a school so concerned about the actual student and how to help them and their academic needs. My son has had some anxiety being in 5th grade but Strive is doing a great job in easing the process.

This school is a awesome Academy!!! The principal, staff/teachers are all working towards the same vision of keeping our KIDS FUTURE FIRST! One of their many visions is "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education."-Dr. MLK Jr.

We love Strive. They are attentive to the individual child's needs. The school focuses on academics which is very good for our daughter. We appreciate their involvement from texting us positive input to checking on us when the tornado came through recently. We are very happy with our choice.

  • Kellie Bailey

As a founding family, Strive has been the best thing for our daughter. The staff, especially Mrs Butler, have always gone above and beyond. They support these kids and love them, even when they are unlovable. I would forever encourage other families to put their trust in the Strive family!

  • woah zippy

The school is decent but I wouldn’t recommend your child coming here the food here is terrible you have to tuck your shirt in, also The staff is sometimes nice but very strict and the principal cares a lot about the students and we have homework on the days we’re not supposed to

  • None None

My daughter and I chose Stive for her middle school experience and I’m happy we did so. It has been easy for me to keep in touch with teachers. I’ve been able to have any questions answered in a reasonable manner. She I’ll complete her middle school years with Strive.

  • carlisha hill

Great school, environment and outstanding teachers. We couldn't have picked a better middle school for our daughter. Strive Collegiate Academy strives to make sure their students succeed not only in middle school but also help with high school and college placement.

  • Alexis Vazquez

the principal hit kids with a paddle. A kid asked isn’t that elligal the principle said I’m not afraid to go to jail. The teacher would have anger issues and puch kids of of there desks. Please don’t send your kid to this junk school it is not safe. Thank you

  • Jennifer Bender

The staff and teachers are great. The curriculum is more structured than Metro schools. If you are on the fence about charter schools, please do not hesitate to reach out to the staff at Strive for more information.

  • The Beast

This place isn't bad actually. This is my 2nd year going here and I've liked it. The only thing they van approve on is the food/lunch.Ms Butler said she would take a bullet for us that's how much she loves us.
