I really enjoyed my visit, I came here for a late lunch at 15:30. The restaurant was clean and plenty of seats to choose from. The owner was friendly and helpful with recommendations on the menu. The food was flavourful and the naan was perfection . The meals are priced reasonable you can get a meal from 14.99$-20$, which is makes it great for sharing and sampling the menu. My only recommendation would be to find place to store extra food products. There was a box of canned tomatoes beside our table, besides that everything was great!

Nestled discreetly in a nondescript strip mall, this East Indian gem surprises with its authentic flavors and traditional dishes. Upon entering, the unassuming exterior gives way to a sensory journey that leaves a lasting impression. The menu here is a treasure trove of East Indian classics. Their butter chicken is a standout, boasting a velvety tomato-based sauce that's a perfect balance of creamy and spicy. The succulent lamb dishes are another highlight, offering tender bites of perfectly spiced meat. The counter service adds to the casual charm of the place. You order at the counter, and the staff, friendly and attentive, guide you through the menu, making it accessible even to newcomers to East Indian cuisine. While the restaurant's location might not scream "fine dining," it's the culinary delights inside that truly matter. If you're seeking an unpretentious, yet exceptional, East Indian experience, this hidden treasure is well worth a visit.

Shaan Curry House stands as an Ottawa culinary gem since 1995. This restaurant offers an authentic Indian dining experience, seamlessly blending affordability with irresistibly delicious flavors. The establishment's rich history imparts a unique charm, and we found ourselves captivated by the warm and inviting ambiance. Sanita, a key owner, played a pivotal role in elevating our dining experience through her warm hospitality and attentive service, starting from the moment we stepped in. Our appetizers, the spinach and tofu samosa, and onion bhaji, were a delightful prelude to the main course. For our main course, we opted for the big meal, which included a choice of two curries served with salad, rice, and naan. The menu's diverse offerings authentically showcase the essence of Indian cuisine, leaving a lasting impression with every dish we tried. Shaan Curry House, with its delightful atmosphere, exceptional taste, and convenient location, comes highly recommended, and Sanita's personalized touch adds a special and memorable element to the overall experience.

Moved to Canada from the UK in 2006 and been looking for a good curry house for ages. My search is over. They do not have much selection in terms of variety of dishes but don't let that fool you. I had the best lamb curry I have had in a LONG time on Friday night and my partner had the chicken curry which was also really tasty. The lamb was so tender and the spices tasted fresh, I was thrilled. Heat level is provided by an addition of green sauce, none for mild, a small amount for medium, with larger helpings for hot, extra hot and 'dragons breath'. Samosas are large and looked good but we did not order any, we will try some on our next visit. Naan bread is OK, nothing special. Restaurant is small and cozy looking but was take out only due to Covid-19 restrictions. Service was quick, friendly and staff were wearing masks. Shaan Curry House is definitely going to be on regular rotation for take outs.

I came here every week for 5 years when I worked in the area in the early 2000s. It was excellent service and good comfort food at a good price. For the past 10 years I still come here once a year. Yes prices are now much more from 2005, like a lot of food joints but triple? The quality and portion size has gone downhill. My Big Meal last week had 3 small pieces of chicken. The sauce was also very watered down. The rice was good, but hard to screw that up. Samosa was dry yet very greasy. Was still hungry afterwards. It's getting to the point that it's not worth the detour to come get takeout.

I recently dined at Shaan Curry House, and the experience was delightful. Despite the rise in prices across board, the quality of the food have remained exceptional. Even though most restaurants are adjusting their prices due to the ongoing inflation, the value provided here was more than worth it for me. The butter chicken and garlic naan were particularly delicious with just enough quantity to fill me up. Additionally, I was warmly greeted by the lady at the counter whose hospitality added to the overall experience. Despite the price adjustments, the quality of the food and service remains top notch and a must visit.

We went the other day to this excellent little gem of an eatery and wow did we have a feast. We are amateurs of indian food having been to many in Montreal and this one is just sooo good. We took the vegetarian menu and the butter chicken menu with naan and mango lassi and it was absolutely delicious. The service was super polite and fast. The prices are really good too! We are returning the next time we are in Ottawa :) And yes you can sit down, there is even a big table for a group of 10ish people

At this restaurant the interior and atmosphere is good but when it comes to food, they lack behind. We had chicken biryani, but I tell you thats not biryani should taste. They just mixed the packet of readymade biryani masa into rice and some non-chewable chicken. The chicken was too hard and not properly cooked. I guess this is not the way indian food should taste because I myself work at an Indian restaurant and I would advise the owner of this place to have a visit to Saber’s taste of India in Kingston. This can really help him to improve the quality of their food and services. Overall I will give only three stars.

Delicious food!!! Definitely by far best Indian food place in Ottawa. I love coming here! They never let me down. Yummy I literally have had everything on their menu it does not disappoint in any way. Worth coming to!! I just had the Allo tikki chaat the other day so tasty, crispy and saucy and full of flavour just the way I like it yum!! To the samosa to the chicken butter or curry. And the vegetable curry/ lamb dishes.I’m always in heaven here!! Amazing people that work there super friendly and great service!! Great price I’ll see you in a few days haha

Grabbed two curries to go from their lunch specials. Pretty underwhelming portions, and the curries were some of the most watery curries I have had, considering I had the butter chicken. Was far from a "creamy dish". The menu also has errors in it, which I pointed out well over two months ago, and still not fixed. They have their "Tandoori Chicken" (dry dish) listed under "Curries", when it is clearly, and factually not a curry. Staff was nice, food was prompt, may give them another try in the future if I'm in the area but not a great first experience for a takeout place that's rated over 4.5.

  • Jade Hor

The people here were so nice! The portions were perfect, I got the platter for 4 and I was able to feed 4 adults and 4 small kids, I had never heard of this place before and I will definitely be back for more great food!! They gave me so many sauces and the a large amount of naan bread (which is my fav) so overall awesome experience!

I haven't been to Shaan's curry house in years and decided I wanted some tonight. Boy did it not disappoint. Tasted amazing like it always does. The only missing thing was to not say hi to Pal who is the owner. The people working though were wonderful and the food is always delicious. Honestly better than the big popular places in Ottawa, their food is sooo good. Thanks!!

I ordered at the front counter, sat down, and received my food in about five minutes. It was piping hot and really tasty. You get a good amount of food for the price point. It's not the best Indian food in all of Ottawa, but it's definitely enjoyable and won't break the bank! As a side-note, I loved the green sauce they served on the side. A little spicy, but not too much. Really good. Thanks for the friendly service, and I will definitely be back!

I visited this restaurant after looking out at the review but it was far below our expectation. Ordered samosa and it was ok ok . I can find better samosa around in same or lesser price. I ordered chicken tandoori with veg curry . Food do not look tempting and taste is below average . The portion size is small considering the amount paid. In summary food not worth of money paid for.

One of the best places I've been to for Indian food. I was never a huge fan of this type of cuisine but this place had nicely seasoned curries I'd go back for. I personally liked the chicken and chickpea the best but my friends all had differing views; try ordering the multi-dinner set with companions and try them all! The naan was warm and toasty. The service was also very friendly, the man in the front was helpful in deciding what to order.

  • Joanne Richardson

My favourite place to visit for Indian Food! The owner is welcoming and goes out of his way to make his customers feel at home. There is room to eat in if you want. Service is quick and the food tastes wonderful. Just spicy enough for those who like a little heat in their dishes. They cater to those who like vegetarian meals as well as meat and seafood lovers. A wonderful place to visit if you are trying Indian food for the first time.

  • Harveen Sandhu

By far, the best Indian food in Ottawa. Quality and authenticity of recipe and ingredients. You can actually taste the cream and the ground cashews in the Butter Chicken. No sugary fillers that a lot of ethnic fast food places use to save time. Terrific selection of vegetarian dishes!!! Super cozy atmosphere inside with huge plants everywhere - you almost feel like you're in a greenhouse. My favourites are the goat curry and daal. :)

  • MichaelP

We ordered food for pick up but when I got home I wasn’t sure if I had the sizes I ordered or if it was enough for my group. I called and they assured me it was enough and I was satisfied but they sent over a full order of butter chicken for no charge anyway. Very unexpected and actually there was enough! Pretty amazing service though. I hope they still made money on this order. Great food too.

Excellent Curry house at great prices. Beef, lamb, chicken, fish curries are great coupled with dental, chickpea, or veg curries on rice. Get a yogurt sauce and green hot sauce and you are set. Add a samosa and you have a fantastic meal. They have so many types of samosas and they are not small. Been going there for over 10 years. It is my go to take out place for curries. Great Indian food, you can't go wrong.

  • Praba G

Kids loved the quick meals with samosa and we had chicken biryani. Biryani gets 5 star because it was authentic, unlike the regular rice mixed with curry sort of biryani. We ordered for 3 , but 4 of us were full. 1 less star for the palak paneer kabab which needed little more frying.

The food is absolutely great, the Chef knows exactly what he is doing, however portions can be an issue. 1/3 of the meal is a salad, making the portions of the curry and rice small and the menu is designed so that customers order more on the side for an extra charge. The cutlery is all plastic as well, which is a bummer with styrofoam cups for water. However, I can't at all complain about the food, it's great.

The service is great. You are greeted with a friendly smile and guided through the menu options. The food comes out very quick, almost too quick. I would say the downsides are being served on styrofoam plates and given plastic cutlery. I can understand styrofoam for takeout, but when dining in, it gives the experience a bad note. All in all, I would say it's good Indian fast food.

This is a good place to get good curries. I'm one of those people who avoids vegetable curries in favour of meats, but the chickpea curry here is very tasty, and I always get an order of it to go with whatever meat curry I choose. Everything on the menu is very good. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the proprietor is always cheerful when you enter.

  • Paul K

Ordered a family meal for 6 and was underwhelmed with the amount of food we got for the price. That being said, the food was delicious. In speaking with the owner he mentioned is it more expensive if you order from skip the dishes and that they take 30% of the bill. A thought - why not offer 10% off for pick up? Owner would still make more that way!

They are rated 4.5 for a reason. I ordered 12 kgs of biryani and raita for a personal event and it was perfect ! The flavours were amazing and the taste was awesome. Everyone appreciated it! Kudos to Team Shaan Curry House. Your chicken biryani is just spectacular. Thanks for making it so awesome for us !

As an Indian I was expecting an Authentic Chai experience from an Indian run restaurant, clearly they used Loblaws branded Chai steeped in water. All to say it wasn’t good, but I do hear they make authentic Indian food, I “may” try it sometime… but less likely now that I’ve been put off by their tea.

  • Patti Pokorchak

And great friendly service. Can't go wrong when you crave an Indian take-away. Lots of different curries and dishes, not your usual chicken tikka. Their delights are well named, very flavourful and not greasy/overly fatty like some Indian food dishes. Highly recommended and I know my Indian food.

  • lara vaghela

The food here has good amount of spices, specially the gravy of the curry is full with flavours and the chat section has good texture to it. The people their are warm too. The only problem is it's ambience. It's good for takeaway but if you planning dining it's way too small for family dinner.

The absolute best Indian curry in town! When I worked nearby we used to order lunch from owner Pal weekly as a big group. I've really missed it since relocating, but I'm trying hard to make it back regularly these days because there's simply no substitute!

  • David Barrett

Great value, great heat level, great taste. Salad was fresh with lots of carrots and onion and other stuff. Curry was bang-on and the rice wasn't clumpy. Good sized portion, didn't even finish it. Wish they did onion bahji but that's a fairly minor point.
