I really need more. I understand that the location is charming and it primarily serves tourists, but residents also patronize and depend on this shop. However, its selection and management are genuinely lacking. Firstly, there is no community. Where is the calendar of events (the book clubs, seminars, and authors' talks)? Where is the robust social media presence? Where are the staff recommendations? The large shallow bookshelf nearest the register needs to feature staff picks. This is a no-brainer. Each staff member needs to be regularly reading and recommending books. Have everyone write a short explanation of why they are recommending a particular work on a note card and display it under the book. If not there, you could attach these note card recommendations throughout the shop — wherever their chosen books are found. This also needs to be replicated on the website. We need profile pictures, short bios, and lists of their favorite reads. Just something that connects the shop to the people who patronize it. And the selections themselves are haphazard and not thoughtfully curated. Why is the philosophy section downstairs and not upstairs with History and Politics? As a result, you literally have books from the same specialty publishers in two entirely separate spaces (e.g., Verso Books). They are not in conversation with one another — as they should be. I would strongly recommend moving Biography and Travel downstairs. Lastly, if no one in the shop actually reads a particular genre (e.g., philosophy, anglo lit, mystery, etc.) bring someone in who does! The curation going on at the Berlin shop puts some of your sections to shame — and it shouldn't be this way! Though I seem overly critical, I do not mean to be. I do love this shop (Your Central European lit section is great!), but I am really frustrated by what is going on. Maybe some change is needed? Thank you.

Wow. It's an amazing bookshop. An enormous quantity of books and kinds of books can be found here (mainly in English, plenty in several other languages), not the best-seller books that we may throw away after reading. It was really a hard time for me because I had too many books that I wanted to buy. Although it seems like a small bookshop but you'll be surprised to find a quiet basement where another range of books are stored. It also has a great location that it is five minutes of walk from the west end of Charles Bridge and just beside the Kafka Museum. I visited not less than 7 bookshops in Prague, intentionally and by chance, the Shakespeare & Son has given me a pretty good impression not only because at first I thought The Globe was maybe the best bookshop in Prague (most recommended one, but it let me down), but also because it is surprisingly good. Highly recommended.

An incredible place which is worth to be visited, at least once during your visit in Prague. Huge selection, wide range of genres, authors from all over the globe. They are selling books not only from major publishing companies but from other, less known publishers too. What really cought my attention in the store is they not only categorize the books by subject or genre, but they have shelves organized by regions and countries as well. It's not something I'm used to, however I really appreciate it! It made my book loving brain to look at certain books in a new light and I'm grateful for it. Altho buying books in person in bookstores always cost more than ordering them, but every single coin is worth for taking at least one book which can remind you about your visit!

This place is fantastic for book lovers who read in English (and some German and Czech) and people looking for the best setting for their bookstagram. There are fiction and non fiction books in different genres, and I found some amazing gems, like Edward Gorey's grim illustrated stories and several Calvin and Hobbes comic collections. Inside, shelves and tables and all kinds of flat surfaces are covered in books and a winding staircase takes you to an underground floor with soft light and furniture that just invites you to take a seat. Books are a bit pricey, but considering the central location, I believe that's expected. Masks are required. ♿ There's an elevator next to the staircase, but the occasional step makes the place wheelchair inaccessible.

Keep in mind that you are paying an upsold price for these books by about $5-15 per book (compared to the book's actual listing price). We did not see until later that they have penciled in a different price on the front inside page of the book with this higher amount, and unfortunately we didn't verify the conversion from Czech Koruna to USD at the cash register. We wanted to support a local business, but a little more transparency would be nice. The only reason I'm not giving this establishment fewer stars is because we should have checked how much higher the price per book would be. Happy to pay an extra price for local and handmade items, but not so much extra for a book we could easily order on Amazon.

I really want to like this store, and it does have a great selection of English books, but the prices are an absolute rip off. It markets itself as new AND used books, and especially for used books I'd expect to pay less. Especially way less than the listed price at the back of one. Yet when converting the OG price to czk, and then compare it with how much the book is being sold for, it's about 40% more expensive than the original (£ or $) price. And that's just a massive rip off. To be sure, I must have picked up about 30 books to see it was the case for all of them. Save yourself the hassle, and order the books or buy them right away at places like Luxor or Amazon for the same OG price or even less.

  • Lucie Vottova

Great English bookshop in Prague, unique atmosphere with the cozy, slightly dusty, vibe you want from all your little bookshops. Very nice selection of new and used books across genres. My bookwormish heart melted the moment I stepped in. Only downside are the prices, easily 20-30% on top of standard prices (comparison with similar bookstores in Amsterdam, London, Antwerp, Maastricht, Paris, Stockholm, even in Prague itself, not to mention online). It's a pity, I don't mind spending some extra money to support small local business (bookshop on top!) but this just seems too much.

  • Michelle D

A nice enough store full of English books, but I found books and magazines in German as well. Some of them are used and some are new. The store has a huge underground floor where one can sit in comfortable armchairs and enjoy the books. Definitely a good choice of genres, fiction, fact as well as graphic novels. However I found that these books were kind of overpriced, especially surprising were the used books that were too expensive. The store is located in a quiet street in a beautiful area at Mala Strana so the location is an advantage.

  • Ben W

It’s a nice bookstore, small and cute, right in the middle of the most heavy touristy area of the city, they have a decent selection of books, but the books are way overpriced. I spent 550czk for a tiny sized copy of The Hobbit which I think should only be sold at about 200czk. They also don’t have such a good selection of fantasy books, if you enjoy fantasy books I recommend going to a different bookstore like Luxor on Wenceslas Square. But it is nice of them to provide a bookmark with the books they sell.

  • Lydia

The best bookshop I visited in Prague! There are so many English literature classics and some really beautiful editions as well. Downstairs is also very nice and there's a cosy reading corner. The bookshop felt unique as labels and decorations were homemade, which really added it. And I also managed to find a book that is really hard to find in other major bookshop chains. The only downside was that you had to search a bit to find what you're looking for because the books are all over the place.

  • Paula Costa

I think it's a great bookstore, the environment is really nice and there are so many amazing books to buy! However, I received a recommendation to go there to take my books to sell and I got cheated a bit. I took 6 books in very good condition, 4 quite thick, 3 part of a fantasy trilogy and I was given 300 Kč for the lot :/ I thought it odd, but as I was moving and happy to at least give the books a good home, I didn't complain. My acquaintances weren't as forgiving though...

  • Bianca Mogos

This is, hands down, one of the best bookstores I’ve ever seen. The variety of books is amazing. A lot of central and Eastern European authors, but also a lot of new releases. Books I wouldn’t find even in the best stocked bookstores in the UK. The first floor has all the new books, fiction and non fiction on various topics. If you walk below there philosophy, graphic novels, second hand books and I think books in French and German. Highly recommend you stop by.

  • Subhroneel Chakrabarti

A fantastic bookstore with an admirable collection of English books. There are few books in German and other languages as well. You can get both be as well as second hand books. Plenty of places to seat and read at your leisure. The management is warm and very friendly. To top it off is just a stone throw away from Charles bridge! Most definitely will visit again! A perfect place to spend a part of a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

  • Ellie Farrier

I love this bookshop; it has all the smells and chaos you want from a good one. Their selection is huge, diverse, and spread across 2 floors that you can peruse at your leisure. The staff is helpful, but won't interrupt you as you get lost along the shelves, reading the backs of every book as you go. It's a delightful experience, and in a magical little corner of Mala Strana. Definitely worth a visit.

  • Emma McKay

Awesome book store! Cozy, inviting and books from wall to ceiling. Something for everyone. The only negative thing I can think of is that the prices don’t reflect that some of the books are used and a lot of the new books you can find cheaper elsewhere. However, I’m a strong supporter of independent local bookstores so I didn’t mind paying a bit more.

  • Maxime Van Hoecke

The store is very cozy and has a great atmosphere that encourages reading. There is a lot of choice wich is great if you're just browsing for a book to read. There is a great selection of genres. From poetry to fantasy to mystery there is a great variety of genres. But if you're looking for a certain book then it's almost impossible to find fast.

  • Gail Carberry

On a tour of the Charles Bridge we passed this lovely shop. Our guide said she loved to pass hours looking at the books in their basement. We came back the next day to explore the bookstore and found a treasure trove of wonderful books- new and used- that it made our hearts sing!! Don’t miss this very special book purveyor while in Prague!!

  • Kien Tuong Truong

Really good collection of books in english, many of which are pretty hard to come by. Remember that many books are overpriced if you compare it with the price written on the cover: always ask the price before buying anything. The library is composed of two floors, of which the lower one has a few chairs and couches. Pretty cozy

  • _HOTARU _

I love this place so much. The book shop is located 5 minutes from Malostranska. Prices are middle, it’s better to order online first and then go there. You can find really specific books there that is hard to find anywhere else (they accept cards). This place is also good for photoshoot (but it’s better to ask them first).

  • Timi Kondrak

The store is really big, with a wide range selection of books. I did not liked that some of the books are too high on a shelf and there's no way how to reach them. Also a bit annoying that the books are not in alphabetical order, some books you can find in 3 different sheves. But overall it's a nice place for book lovers

  • MyGoLife

Nice place with books in different languages. However the books are quite expensive I bought two books for the equivalent of 23 euros each with the seller telling me that they were limited edition. After I went to two different libraries in Berlin and Amsterdam and found the exact same books for half the price

  • Chiara Condò

Molto turistica, molto disordinata, molto polverosa.

  • Bert B

I tried a lot of English bookstores in Prague but this one was by far the most exhaustive. The bookstore harbours a large collection of books which goes beyond the typical best sellers. The place is quite quirkily organized but that's part of the charm of browsing around an old fashioned bookstore.

  • Chirag Shekhar

The vibe of this place is incomparable. To a book lover, this may just be the best find in all of Praha, even though the Charles Bridge is only a few steps away. I loved the views from the basement, and the collection they have is very impressive. Must visit for anyone who shows up in this city.

  • Albena Todorova

Such a lovely bookstore right at the edge of the old town of Prague. Most of the books are English. Wonderful, though a tad chaotic selection of poetry. Nice surprise! I think one needs to map all the small independent bookstores around the globe, so we could support them.

  • Ivanna Nikolskaya

Lovely English bookstore which you won't pass by if you are fond of books. Ones you've stepped in, it takes you relatively quite some time to check at least your favourite sections. Good selection of books, nice stuff, pleasant ambiance to chill, play chess or have a talk.

Cute little bookshop, with a lot of books (new and used) for everyone. The atmosphere is very warm, and it makes you reed inside. Staff is helpful and friendly. The prices of some books are discutable, but it is in the heart of Europe, so you can't mind it.

  • José Manuel Chávez Hernández

I did not have the chance to really dive deeply into its waters, but I, from the glimpse I had, can say it's a beautiful spot and a must for book pervs. They've got books in Czech, Español and English. Prices are pocket-friendly. Check it out!!

  • Tae Hoon Chung

Unpretentiously located in an ancient building with vaulted ceilings, this bookstore has a good selection of Czech and other Eastern European authors in translation, mostly to English, but also to French (and maybe others, I'm not sure.)

  • Sophia Red

I love it here but sadly I Don't come here very often, otherwise I'd leave with an empty wallet every time :') I love the range of books they have and how pretty some of the editions are, one of my go-to stores for books in English:Dd

  • Esli Kamberi

Charming little bookshop with a great selection of English, French, German books and different genres. You can go downstairs and read for a while, there's a cozy room with sofas. Good location as well. Books are on the expensive side.

  • Janna Hinnk

  • Malcolm Kelly

Huge range of English language books. Amazing non-fiction literature section; a serious selection of all the great works, no matter what you’re looking for. Books are pricey, but they do have to import them so it’s understandable.

  • David Dancey

A good bookshop, specialising in second-hand and foreign-language books. The bookshop has many English titles and is deceptively large, having an entire floor underneath the shop. The selection of titles is generally quite good.

  • Olexiy Pyliov

Cozy, silent place when you can find all books you want. My case - I have searched for a Tintin comics and found one here, used 1984 edition it cost me 150 czk. Highly recommended for all types of book worms )

  • Csilla Németh

They have a huge range of English books, maybe not the cheapest solution to buy books but the store has its own charm. They even have a section for Prague/Czech related books, with many Czech writer's books.

  • Viltė Gricukaitė

This bookstore is amazing, there is such a big range of books from different authors. One thing that I will say is that I believe you can find books for cheaper, still this place is definitely worth a visit.

  • Celia

Atmosfera indimenticabile.

  • Bonea George

If you are looking for good books in English, this is your place. “Book” a few hours of your time for a good experience. “Book”? Bookstore? Do you know what I mean? Haha, word pun. I’ll see myself out.

  • Leona 5

Perfect place to get through the nonstop rainy days. It's a bit touristic but has enough chair and space to read. But they overcharging the book. It was 10.99GBP book but they changed 450czk(15GBP).

  • Riccardo Giannecchini

Such a nice and cozy bookstore. With shelves from floor to ceiling, all different types of topics and genres, you will definitely find something worth reading. A nice and helpful shop owner too!
