Been coming here as a family for over 30 years but I think that's coming to an end. We usually love the food, but the service was so poor the last time we went, that my parents who have been life long customers now no longer want to come back. The dumplings were delicious, food was hot, (except for a sauce that was frozen in the middle) but the food was unceremoniously dropped in front of us. Staff were rude, and we believed they were talking about us. We felt judged, not welcomed, which was entirely strange as we knew what we wanted to order, were efficient, and said please and thank you on every interaction. It's a pity this was our last experience as I have many very good memories at the Silver Dragon and it's how I was introduced to Dim Sum as a child. The restaurant has changed greatly since the pandemic, and I can no longer recommend it when I've had much better experiences with better cost elsewhere.

A decent dim sum restaurant! This is an old but well known Chinese restaurant in Chinatown with a large dining area and cart style dining when ordering dim sum. The servers come around with carts and differing selections of dim sum and you can pick which ones you’d like to order. The food is alright but can be bland at times and not very hot as they’ve been strolled around in their carts for some time. The waiters are quite attentive and friendly as they clean off your table from empty plates. The prices are a bit high but that’s too be expected nowadays at most dim sum spots. It can be quite busy during lunches on weekends but overall it’s big enough to accommodate everyone on most days. You can park along the streets nearby or at a paid parking lot. Remember downtown street parking is free on Sundays. Check this out if you’re in Chinatown and craving some dim sum!

I went here because I heard the dimsum is very good and it was very good. There is now 3 top places for dimsum and this is in the top3. The servers were extremely nice even serving us the food and ongoing great service overall. The vibe of the restaurant reminded me of a really good dimsum place in Hong Kong and also in Vancouver. The food was asseptional. We had the Shumai, Har gow. Shrimp&scallop har gow, beef tripe, beef fried rice and a medium wonton noodle soup and it was very authentic and delicious. Definitely coming back for the courses! You got to eat dimsum with jasmine tea of course. This place is a 5/5* in all aspects.

Comparing with Hong Kong, I would say that the quality of dim sum here is very high. I would recommend the deep fried shrimp toast (蝦多士) here. Spongy texture of minced shimp going with the crispy toast is just perfect. Even for the vegetarian choices are so great such as (羅漢齋腸粉) mushroom cheong faan has a strong inviting flavor of mushrooms in it. We saw a lot of non-asian people eating here too! And there is dim sum cart, which was disappeared in Hong Kong long time ago! Please be aware that it’s just almost 1.5-2 times of the price of other places. Personally I found it worth the experience.

This place used to be a buffet. You have to climb two flights of stairs getting here. When you get there, there may or may not be the owner of the restaurant doing some karaoke in his spare time which is also during service. Our server sat us at the very edge of the restaurant where they had a bunch of storage items they weren’t using. From our point of view we can see the other seats EMPTY seats to tables that would’ve had a way better view of Calgary. The waitress hovered over us as we looked at the menu only for her to explain that everything is a la carte. My husband and I didn’t feel welcomed to begin with at this place so we left.

: A bit pricey but is the first place we saw open during a Sunday and decent rate : We ordered Dimsums from Siu Mai, Shrimp dumplings to Meatballs : The portion is enought for 2 or 3 depending on the appetite or time of dining ⌛: The wait time is quite fast, to be honest but so is calling for a waiter : Service, I think it's fine. Just seems like they're avoiding eye contact while clearing plates. But aside from that, nothing out of the ordinary.

I have been here many times in the past but have dined here recently. I had their dim sum which was truly excellent. The staff seemed very attentive and they had a variety of selection to choose from. The facility was located in China town and although, it appeared to be an older building; it was clean inside the facility. For the price, I would highly recommend this restaurant. I will definitely be coming back as I really enjoyed the food and the experience.

Disclaimer: I only order dim sum so I can't comment on other dishes. Having tasted the dim sum in Richmond, BC, the dim sum here is Ok but above average in Calgary. The texture of the shrimp dim sum is a bit odd. The beef tripe is uneatable when it comes to flavours. Above average service for a Cantonese restaurant: friendly servers. When it comes to atmosphere, it is perhaps the best Chinese themed restaurant I've ever been. But again, It can't be helped when you got self-centred, under educated customers sitting near your table.

I tend to give lots of five stars but only because they are well deserved. I love the ambiance of this place. The outside has the best lights to help brighten-up Chinatown and the inside reminds of fine dining. This is the perfect place for a date or large groups. Large tables and plenty of space inside. I brought my partner here for her birthday and we had a lovely time. We managed to accidently slip the her birthday card in with a pile of menus but the staff helped us find it! The food was fantastic! I will have to return here as the menu has plenty of choices. I highly recommend this place.

It was Sunday nearing 2pm, and Silver Dragon Restaurant was one of the few restaurants that still served dim sum. I loved the fact that even at such a late hour for dim sum, the staff still came by with trays or carts with dim sum. One of the attentive wait staff also came by to offer a menu to order whatever dim sum I did not see on passing by carts. Food was absolutely delicious and I would come again!

You don’t have to wait for the food to arrive. The food will come to you. Server will bring all of them in the cart. They will tell you what is it, you just pick what you wanna eat. I love this idea. The down side is you don’t know the price of each plate. If you are very hungry and order too much for the first round of their presentation, you will regret when better food come later but you don’t have any more room to eat.

Honestly, their Dimsum variety was disappointing. Some of the dishes I was looking for aren’t available anymore. Their other food menu was confusing too; like for Vegetables, there are stir-fry veggie.. with minced meat. I’m like, what? The quality of the dishes were below average, considering they are one of the famous Chinese resto in Chinatown. Their WonTon soup was bland, spareribs were hard and chewy. The only one that I really liked was the honeycomb tripe in XO sauce. Parking is always terrible at this area in rush hour.

Fantastic place. Nice open space, simple atmosphere or rather Feng Shui. Service was quick, seated immediately. Our drinks were brought quick and the food arrived timely. The one and only complaint I have and it's just personal preference I guess. I would have liked the squid cooked a bit longer for to make it a bit more crispy. It was a bit too soggy and chewy. Other than that. Ate great.

Absolutely phenomenal! As an Asian, I can say that Asian restaurants don’t have a reputation of being the best in the dining experience. However, this was best dim sum service I’ve had in a while and the presentation was beautiful! Two staff members saw that I was looking for my waitress and asked if I needed anything. Our waitress was so polite and quick to get us our orders! On top of that, the food was so delicious and their egg tarts were the best I have ever had! We left feeling very satisfied and happy!

Came for lunch with a friend on Sunday and had dim sum which was very good. I don't get out for dim sum often so it seems there's always some new dishes that are fun to try. I believe Silver Dragon would be a lot more comfortable and inviting than most restaurants in the Chinatown area. Service was good with a steady flow of carts.

This was the first time I ever had Dim Sum and I would say it was a very pleasant experience. Restaurant was very neat and tidy, service was on-time and impeccable and the food was just amazing. I don't have much to compare with but since I had such an enjoyable experience at Silver Dragon for Dim Sum, I thought I would share. The price-point for all we ate was quite decent as well.

Love coming here for dim sum with the family on Sundays. The carts come out quick but only from one side, so by the time it would reach our side it would be empty and locked though. Sometimes it wouldn’t even make it to our side. Food itself is good and portions are decent. Pricing is typical of Calgary dim sum pricing. We did have a misunderstanding at the front. We had put our name and number down for reservation, and someone claimed it. Hopefully they are a bit more careful with that in the future.

  • Dallas D

The food is good. We've been going there for the past 12 years. We brought my dad that paid the bill then we were walking out and our server chased us out and down the stairs to ask "where's my tip?!!" My wife and I were in shock. We always tip but our dad paid and didn't tip because there were a couple things he didn't like about going there. I'm not sure we'll be going back after that rant, basically yelling at us for a tip.

Went there for a latenight dinner and tried the dimsum menu. We found the shrimp toast was too oily. But was super tasty though. The rest of the food came out with proper timing. We weren't waiting. Flavors and quality were there. Because we were there on a Thursday evening. The kitchen closes at 9pm. Other than that good place to eat

PROS: - Food is pretty good - Service is fast - Reservations are recommended if you go for Sunday Dim-sum CONS: - too many shrimp dishes. Everything else like squid, ginger fried beef, shows up much later. - Price has gone up quite a bit. SUMMARY: Sunday dim-sum is still a nice family gathering lunch a couple of times per year. It is one of the better places for Chinese food in Calgary.

Superior service because they have lots of staff who care. They made me feel I was a special guest. Food temperature was hot when delivered. Incredibly fast turnaround after ordered. Appearance and flavors way above average Chinese restaurant. Need to consider accessibility if you are handicapped. The only entrance is up steep stairs. If you don't want MSG be clear with the staff and they will go the extra mile to meet your needs.

Dim Sum for Sunday breakfast bliss, this is the hit. All the steamed dumpling, bun and meaty surprises one can imagine. Get a big group of mates around the sacred turntable of bamboo baskets, shrimp balls and lots of laughs. Always a pleasure to eat at this legendary establishment. Pork Shumai to the grave.

Everything ordered was delicious. The spare ribs and chicken feet dimsum were both umami bombs. The House special fried rice had perfectly cooked shrimp and evenly-flavoured rice grains. Lemon chicken and ginger beef were both crispy and flavourful. Ambiance was great too and since it was past lunch rush when we ate there, the service was speedy and efficient.

  • Robert Lewis

I ordered the dinner for 1, which included a spring roll (not pictured), won-ton soup, special fried rice, chicken with vegetables and crispy ginger beef. The cost was C$29 plus tax and tip. The food was very good overall. There was way too much for 1 person, so it was also a very good value. Recommended!

The coconut pastry was good. It has a sweet crispy exterior and the coconut filling was delicious. I would comeback for the pastry. The Dim Sum was ok but I am comparing to Los Angeles and San Diego’s dim sum. It wasn’t bad but the flavors were a little different. My guess more of location and regions than anything else. It is highly rated.

  • Rebecca Barry

Went for dinner. Loved the custard buns, shrimp dumplings and ginger beef. The siu mai was just okay but my husband loved it. The hot and sour soup was very sweet with hardly any spicy or sour. Still giving 5 stars because giving 4 stars would pull down its score and overall it's a solid dim sum place and very good by Calgary standards.

Would give 3.5. Wide range of dim sum choices . It’s not my favourite though. What supposed to be savoury also tend to have a very sweet taste even for a pork bun. Good services. Overall a nice experience. …
