When we went to the orientation, the administrators quoted studies, saying they understand children learn, and retain information better when they have more play/recess. They said they did not believe in desk graveyards, and the children will participate in active learning. I was told that the teachers will have flexibility with their schedules, so if the kids are getting restless, they can take them to the playground. I was so excited for my child to start school here, knowing they understood the importance of activity while learning. Imagine my dismay when I received my child’s schedule that included only 20 minutes (10 if you consider 5mins to line up and walk to the playground, then 5 mins to line up and walk back to class) of recess a day. 10 mins a day for these young elementary students is unacceptable. My child’s teacher said that they do not have flexibility with the schedule. This means, the kids are in a desk graveyard all day, with only 10 mins of active play. This “sports leadership” school doesn’t even offer P.E. Everyday. P.E. is rotated with the computer lab, and music class. 10 mins of recess a day, with P.E. once or twice a week, depending on the rotation is what they consider, “active” learning. Don’t be mislead during orientation. They will quote studies that they don’t actually believe in. Luckily, my child has an incredible teacher, so it isn’t all bad. I just think parents should have full disclosure on what they are signing their children up for. If you are looking for quality education with a facility that believes in activity, there are better schools out there, than BCA SLAM.

We had to change schools after the first semester at our district school because of a lack of control in the classroom when it came to physical students (1st grade) and lack of communication of student progress. Recommended from a friend whose daughter had been attending brooks, we risked uprooting our child with what turned out to be great reward. With a child in pre-k and another in first, we are more than happy we took the leap. Our teachers have been very communicative and any issues that arose were addressed immediately. Our girls have learned with great ease material suited for older grades by national standards. I think once we get out the little kinks that come with a newly established school this will be 5 stars. Highly recommend. Ps: Also, as school safety issues arose around the country, the school addressed every incident in their parent email and communicated steps it was taking to ensure school safety. With a pickup process in place and guard station at the entrance, I’m very confident all measures are being explored and taken. Also, many events and ceremonies are filmed and posted to Facebook which is nice if for some reason you miss an event or performance. +++

I love the school but I think it's very unfair when I see a group of kids standing in the rain while teachers kids are in the cafeteria. Where is the courtesy? If it was your kid. I'd bet you'd let them in. How sad! Even the older kids are allowed into the gym early if it's raining! Update to 12-7-18 It's pouring once again at 6:50 a.m. and again the staff at Brooks does not let the kids inside and leaves them outside in the cold and rain! I will not be bringing my kids back next year after the holidays! Update 12-10-18 Today it is 36 degrees outside. I can see the kids in the sky arena outside shivering. I can see the elementary children standing outside huddled against each other. I see the staff has their own kids inside nice and warm. No excuses! Children are children! I always stay with my kids until they open doors. I understand there are some parents that need to get to work asap. I know in public schools, they let kids in when it's cold or raining. My kids will not be returning to this school next year as the staff is cold and heartless

I’m somewhat torn by this school. While I believe that my two daughters are doing well and I really appreciate the afterschool program I am disappointed at the lack of communication between the teachers and parents. In an age of instant information and social networking you would think you would be informed of your kids’ progress. I feel very cut off from the day to day goings on of my children. Their homework is not very clear either. Perhaps I am simply not aware of the tools to check on their progress but getting clear answers from the office can be a bit of challenge as well. I also have gripes with the cafeteria and how they conduct business but I frankly don’t even want to go into it. To be fair though I have to say I have seen real progress in my girls’ ability to read. They are very literate and the school has definitely scored major points there. My little one is only in kindergarten! Math however is still a bit of struggle. Perhaps a liaison could spearhead a math program for kids and parents. Just a thought.

Worst school ever!!! My son has dyslexia and I report it to the superintendent and is almost the end of school year and yet my son has not got the help and support he needs... my daughter got suspended from school do to some kids smoking vape and because she didn't report it she pay for it and yet to top it off they charge her as a drug charge without knowing what was on the vape ask for test on vape they said they will not be testing it. My daughter is gonna have this on record without knowing the truth. Worst school run while u can.

I love this school. I have 3 children at this school, a kindergartner, a 6th grader, and an 8th grader that also takes high school classes. Every one of my kids have truly blossomed at this school. They have all been in clubs, played sports, performed in theater and made some incredible friends. The teachers are amazing, my kids love this school so much, they never want to leave. I absolutely recommend this school to anyone that is looking for a new school for their children.

This school is horrible no communication with parents. The front office is disorganized. They allowed my son to be pick on. They are terrible with teaching all around math especially . The teachers yell at students and call them names . I never seen such a school that needs to be shut down . I called office been up to the school serval times no one can answer simple question. This school is in it for the money period my son will not be returning to this so called school .

What I didn't understand was when I went for orientation the principal told me that I was able to sign up my child for sports. Now alot of children tried out and didn't make it including mine and and it was a one day try-out they made a discussion the next day, who made the team. But what bothers me is that there are a lot of children that need motivation some kids have only one parent. Some kids have low-self esteem, Parents this how I feel this is my opinion!!

  • Michael Briggs

Lots of very good teachers here. The principal is engaged and active as well. My kids love the school, they do some great experiments in science, amazing artwork in their electives. They even teach the kids about FAFSA etc for help paying for college. This place will take your child and bring them ahead of the competition for College acceptance. We love BCA, 3 of my 5 kids go here and they all love it.

Someone called me names and the teacher did nothing about it. Everything the serve at lunch is bad except the pizza and the fruit and my sister said she wasn’t able to eat because the pizza line was so long when she got the pizza lunch was already over. There’s a person in my class that the teachers love and he always is mean to People the only reason why they like him is because he gets good grades.

I don't know about the school but my review is based on the stadium. On April 2nd I attended several scrimmage games. The women's restroom smelled horrible. The stalls needed attending such as cleaning and toilet paper. You pay 5.00 per person to get in and their were hundreds of people. You think someone would be available to clean the restrooms during the duration of the games.

The school is a purv they made the skirts for the girls way to short they also cuss in front of us students which I dont like cause then a student says that one word then the teacher That said it gets the student in trouble which is litterily just messed up cause the students got it from the teacher and they think its acceptable then they get in trouble this school sucks so much

My children love this school! This is our first year in a public school, so we were nervous about the transition. So far so good. My little ones are learning so much! I feel that they are being challenged academically and the staff are amazing. Teachers communicate with parents daily and we know what is happening in the classroom. Very blessed to have been lead to BCA!

absolutely horrible the school has a program downloaded onto the schools gmail accounts for the students, and it watches their screens at school and at home they have little to no privacy on the computers. The worst part is the that the teachers that watch these students screens can freeze the whole computer making it inevitably useless for the student.

Trafic is horrible no organization what so ever and on top of that u have one traffic controller the one that wears the big Mexican hat he thinks he is antonio banderas be talking and talking w some young woman i had to roll my window and look at him he was moving and laughing w this lady and the lines where long he needs to get fired

  • Sylvia Gutierrez

No communication with parents and teachers School lunch is really bad kids get home really hungry at least they should have an option to buy good food Also now with kids in virtual pretty much do whatever they want no rules about being in class they may be absent as many times they want and no one says anything..

  • The True Soma

It's an ok place to learn, I was a student there, the teachers there are nice. But they really need to work on discipline. They tend to not discipline students that have done something that is clearly wrong and only do that to students who have done minor things.

  • E Harper

If you don’t want to get a learning experience then go to this school , it is completely garbage yes GARBAGE, the teachers don’t care what you do, I heard there was a couple drug busts in more than a month and they don’t have any of their sections in control

  • Salvador Ramirez

This school talks a good talk and makes promises that students will be serviced in helping them with resources and they say YES and Yes all for them to turn around and take services away from your kid... Bad school for Special Education Services..

  • Angelique

This school is new, but needs improvements on regular class routines and such. Sometimes they don't know what they're doing due to the newness and they're still trying to figure things out. Once they do I feel it will be a great school.

  • Ronnie Torres

To pick up your children is a nightmare. The Principal had attitude, the staff (Frank) had attitude. So with the second day of school it is time to look for a school that works with parents not against parents.

My son is in Prek3, he loves his class and friends. He is lucky to have a awesome coach (coach Montez). I personally felt BCA and coach Montez shaped my son in a well disciplined way. I love BCA

  • Linda DeLaCruz

Omg, I just registered my child here now I am freaking out. So much negative out pours. Changing my mind about sending him there now.

We frequent the gyms for my son's basketball games as well as for practice and they always seem to be kept well.

  • Arlene Garcia

Worst school. I admire how I never receive a call back especially if its regarding my daughter and her safety.
