This could possibly be the most deplorable doctors surgery in Australia based solely on members of the reception staff alone . I have just ready the last review and someone had mentioned that they put the family name to shame , so true from my experience in the last 24 hours . Last night at 5 pm I called in regards to an infection from a cut on my neck, a little worried and knowing that they close at 6. I found the nurse I spoke with to be very rude , the first thing she told me before asking any questions was that they don’t have time today and closing soon . She then told me I should have called earlier and that I should go back to the people who did the operation at the royal . So I agreed and she booked an appointment for the following day whilst still a little worried . After an hour I received a call from a doctor at the surgery , Ms Howe , who was absolutely amazing , she had spoken to that nurse in regards to the situation and was concerned enough to phone me and ask for a picture of the wound , in which she found the be infected and needed antibiotics straight away . She emailed a prescription to the sorell chemist and I was able to collect straight away. Well today I had forgotten my 9am appointment I had made with the nurse and then rebooked it for 12.20 in which I was 10 mins late also , my mistake . A lady on reception clearly was not happy about this at all , I guess fair enough in a way . So I was quite happy to book another appointment for another time and apologised for my efforts . She then told me I was not even a patient at the sorell family practice (my wife and 2 children are also patients ) I explained to her that around 2 months earlier I had become a patient of the clinic after over a year on waiting list , I even went on to tell her that the two reception staff had welcomed me on board saying “welcome to the family “ she shrugged her shoulders and said , well your not , then asked me my doctors name . Still being very polite to this lovely lady who was shrugging her shoulders the whole time while chewing gum , I told her that I did not remember the doctors name . She said unless we got different files for me then I’m not a patient. I said I’ve been here twice , she replied no only once . I said politely again , no I had one appointment to have minor surgery and another a week later to remove stitches . She then reminded these that is actually only once considering it was for the same thing . Well I then told her again I am defiantly a patient in which she shrugged her shoulders and said well your not. I then said I did not like her body language and would prefer to deal with someone else . That was it , no yelling, no swearing , just as I’ve put it . Another receptionist then asked me when was your new appointment , I sad Friday , she said , it’s ok we will see u Friday “she was very nice “. Then I walked out . I have just received a call from the manager of the sorell family clinic 30 mins after leaving telling me she has called in regards to my behaviour and that it was not Acceptable and that they did not tolerate abuse at all . She then went on to tell me that I was no longer a patient at the surgery . I again politely let her know that what she had just said was completely wrong and that her staff member showed a complete lack of care , respect and manners . Well that’s it , I think this is the first review I’ve ever written but felt the story needed to be told considering the injustice . I will be taking my children and wife from the clinic from now on , I have never experienced this from a doctors surgery anywhere in Australia . And after seeing all the other reviews and the 1 star rating it has reaffirmed that this is how they operate . We were very happy with all the doctors at the clinic , amazing service and care.

I was severely ill with flue like symptoms some 7 weeks ago. I rang the clinic and asked was it possible to make a Telehealth appointment because I was so ill and it was so very obvious in my speech, nose and coughing that I had caught a nasty secondary infection. The practice also treated my family who were also severely ill. The nice receptionist said yes I was definitely eligible as I had had been there before and they had my history. She booked in the consult. I had also just completed lymphoma infusions also at RHH. Dr TOM ROACH rang me, told me he could not consult without seeing me. I advised I had previously had pneumonia and doctors told me I need to act quickly by treating future infections with antibiotics. He refused to even listen, I was too sick to drive, I had no way of getting into consulting rooms. DR TOM ROACH told me “get a taxi or get an Uber….!!!!!! I said BUT “Public health orders states stay at home if sick or unwell or have flu like symptoms !” Dr TOM ROACH said “well I can’t help you unless you come into rooms for a consult” A different receptionist (the rude one) rang me back at 5pm. (I was bedridden) I asked was she ringing to see if I was ok? NO……she was ringing to charge me $88.00 INVOICE for Dr TOM ROACH to phone me and tell me he would not consult over the phone……. That I could pay by credit card over the phone. I have never been so angry to pay a bill as I was with this one….. I hope he chokes on it. I really wanted to report him to the medical board of Australia. I am still trying to recover from this illness which took such a severe hold on my immunosuppressed system…. I am under the care of a doctor from another suburb and I have had X-rays, cat scans and am still fighting this infection with very strong antibiotics (my third lot). DR TOM ROACH lacks bedside manner, he has no empathy and is a very rude man. I would NOT recommend this rude man to anyone. The remaining staff (apart from the rude receptionist who thinks she’s a doctor and above the public) are very nice and it’s such a shame that one or two persons can bring down the good name of this clinic when the majority are very caring.

I don't normally do reviews but today I was very disturbed by the lack of education and empathy given to me by reception staff. I was a patient of the surgery and my son wasn't.He needed to see a Dr for flu like symptoms. After being told I had to wait 3 days for an appt I rang on the day as instructed and then I was told they were not taking new patients.Any child with flu like symptoms should never be turned away as this could develop into a life threatening situation. It seems the receptionists run the clinic. Go figure. Shame on Sorell Family Practice.

I have been attending Sorell Family Practice since 2017 As I am now moving toward mid-70s, I am conscious that things which would not have bothered me before need to be identified and action taken. The doctor who usually looks after me is Tom Roach. I have found Dr Roach to be very thorough in his questioning and analysis of my condition. He records my concerns and follows up any query with the appropriate specialist. He is a very good doctor and I look forward to seeing him in the future.

Absolutely appalling staff, no urge to help customers and speak very rudely to clients/customers. The staff have no respect and are quite rude when coming to clients and speak to other staff disrespectfully. Witnessed multiple staff speaking to other staff in such a disrespectful and disgusting manner. Would not recommend sorell family practice unless you want to witness a zoo. staff speaking to other staff in a downgrading way and disrespectful way. Very Unprofessional

Called to make an appointment for the first time as I was looking to change GPs, was rudely told that after this appointment I couldn’t come back at all because they were not taking new patients. Doctor was fine, requested bloods but then I had to wait 2.5 weeks to get the results after me ringing nearly everyday to find out only to be told that I needed to book another appointment for them to tell me I’m fine and I would have to pay another appointment fee.. ridiculous

  • Jenny Gregson

Needed to have a full body skin check at the Skin Cancer clinic. From the moment I rang to make an appointment till I was paying & leaving everyone was very helpful & courteous. Very considerant and tolerant. Really switched on regarding Covid-19 practices. I value the way they show respect for the individual and they overcome and problem solve each case as it comes up. Understanding and empathy from both doctors, nurses and staff. Thankyou for your practice of due diligence.

  • Frequency ART

Phoned up to enquire about a repeat prescription. I was told I'd be charged $37 dollars as I'd have to see a doctor. But had to pay double that. The receptionist was extremely rude, lacking in basic customer service. I would definitely NOT go there again.
