What a pleasure to have discovered this wonderful bookshop/ Prints/ what does one call a delightful business that also sell maps hundreds of years old, I can't do it justice. So I suggest their website! There is a wonderful lack of grandiosity in this beautifully laid out premises. The staff are patient, helpful, frankly extremely nice to deal with without exception after my 4 th visit to this gem of a find. I can think of one other high profile outlet who deal in many similar artefacts/objects, where the whole experience is the antithesis of going to Sotherans. Not at all pleasant. Yet Sotherans have an expansive range of items for sale. Some in the low hundreds of £'s, but also going into the tens of thousands of £'s. I'm sure even higher. They also acquire items from customers, and will even tell you what they would probably put it out on sale for. Transparency that they need not tell the potential seller. But they do. Well done Sotherans! And a big thank you for showing me such patience. I have learnt quite a bit indeed from chatting to you all. And never felt embarrassed to ask questions. Merry Xmas! Wish you all the very best for the future! Ever, Capt JF.

I have just received a beautiful copy of Edward Ardizzone’s Hans Andersen ‘Fourteen Classic Tales’ first published in 1978 by Andre Deutsch and in hardback. Illustrated front and rear endpapers the book contains b/w illustrations throughout along with 16 full colour full page Il;lustrations. This was to be Ardizzone’s last wor, he died before it was published. I am grateful to Sotheran’s for making an inert transparent Melinex/Mylar wrapper around the outside cover and over the dust wrapper inside the book thus ensuring its future protection. Sotheran’s produce online and printed catalogues. I chose this title from their online catalogue, placed my order online and received my book very well wrapped to ensure its protection during transit by post 24 hours later. Sotheran’s really are a nice company to do business with.

*Purchases online* I love Sotheran's and the social media team especially! (Oliver!) I have purchased two books from Sotheran's in the last year and each book has shipped internationally, and arrived in the most thorough and secure packaging known to humankind. I actually cannot stress how well-tended the books were, and they arrived speedily and with zero hassle. The books were exactly as advertised and in even better condition than I expected, given past experiences with international sellers, but Sotheran's is on the level and their standards exemplary. One day I will travel to Sotheran's and thank them in person, but for now I shall be content with this effusive review and hope they understand how sincerely grateful I am for them in these globally trying times.

There's a reason that the business is as old as it is: They Do Things Right. They put the customer first. They make you feel WELCOME when you visit. They have excellent books and prints... from "little" things to Very Special things. Very knowledgeable staff. The people working there seem to LIKE working there. Go! Don't be afraid to go if you've never considered collecting books or prints before... They took me from complete beginner, and it's been a great "journey".

I have been a customer of Henri Sotherans since 1977. I cannot speak highly enough of the phenomenal service and products carried by this long standing British company. I have used them to bid at auctions and trust no one else to authenticate a purchase for me. Rosie Barker Hodge is my go-to lady and friend. Look no further for the finest reputation in antiquarian books and Gould lithographs than Sotherans.

Sotheran's is a joy. The staff is knowledgeable, good humored, and helpful, and the stock is a treasure trove for book collectors. My family has been buying from them since 1960. Every book we've bought from Sotheran's is exactly as described and arrives in perfect shape within four layers of wrapping. Their occasional newsletter is a day brightener. Our thanks to everyone there.

A treasure trove of beautiful lithographs, prints and books… each a work of art in itself. We could have spent days exploring this special place. Learned so much in a short time, would love to spend more time there. And made to feel very welcome by the impressively knowledgeable and informative staff who were accommodating and helpful. Highly recommend a visit!

Great shop and helpful employees. We went in just to browse out of curiosity after seeing the storefront, and came out with a watercolor print and a luggage label from the 1930s. It’s one of those places that has a variety of well displayed and researched treasures, something for everyone.

A friend told me about Sotheran’s book store and I’m so glad he did. I purchased a beautiful print of Metropolis for my husband’s birthday. Beautifully packed and stunning when we opened it. The quality of print and paper is excellent as is the customer service from start to finish.

  • Reed Bilz

Haven’t been there physically in a long time, but their stock is excellent and they are keeping in touch with customers via daily email which is delightful at this time. I am hoping they will continue these emails after things are normal again. Their catalogs are great too.

  • Peter Revington

It's just great for bibliophile! Recently refurbished and smaller, this remains an excellent, if somewhat expensive antiquarian bookshop. The stock is usually of high quality and the both knowledgeable and helpful. They will acquire titles for customers if asked.

  • Hugo Mortimer Harvey

Absolute gold mine! Very welcoming store with a very wide variety of books and prints. I have purchased prints both in store and online. My online experience was excellent with my print shipped efficiently to Spain where I live and arriving in perfect condition.

As a very long-time colleague (since 1967) and partner in joint ventures and exhibitions I can unreservedly recommend the shop and especially the staff for outstanding service to the rare book, print, and ephemera communities world-wide since 1761! Onwards!!!

Very, very quick delivery, and the book was in excellent condition. Bouquet to Sotheran's. (And brickbats to the Royal Mail, who left it in the porch and sauntered away without asking me to sign for it.)
