I attended St. Mary's in 1978/9. Academic standards were uniformly low. It was a "PE" college, or at least felt like one and the dominant student culture was loud and boorish. Even female students routinely sang "Sunday after supper..." style rugby songs in the bar. There was no culture of academic excellence at all just a stench of drunken cynicism and everything that goes with it. I was a post-grad PGCE student and received the most out-dated and flawed preparation for the teaching profession imaginable. Academic standards were appalling with the exception of one lecturer, Teresa O'Donovan whose history of Education studies stood out from the morass of waffle and flim-flam which characterised the rest of my studies, Drama and Economics/Social Studies as well as Philosophy of Education. Teaching practice was badly supervised and meaningless. The college was in the process of losing its charter from London Univ. and proceed under the aegis of Sussex Univ for the next period. I could undrstand why. In my day it seemed to thrive on the idea that training is irrelevant and therefore (of those who actually went into teaching - and at least a third didn't) sent thousands of semi-trained people into largely Catholic schools to get the profession and the Comprehensive system a bad name, leading to the situation we have today with outright contempt for teachers and education and the decimation of teacher training and educational opportunities for all but the most privileged. Before that we were to witness the phenomenon of Head teachers who were former PE students. I leave you to draw the conclusion. Perhaps St. Mary's was not alone in its decadence but surely the most flagrantly neglectful of its mission to our education system and duty to the profession. I cannot forgive St. Mary's for its shortcomings and only hope that today the failures of the past are part of its history and not its current identity. Contrary to popular myth, training is everything in education which fosters solidarity and excellence. It's all history now and I'm certain times will have changed for the better. Decadence must be remembered. Standards have to be maintained not allowed to atrophy. That takes hard work.

Currently studying an ITEC diploma in Anatomy, Physiology and Massage... The teachers, Lynda and Amy are lovely; Lynda is very knowledgable and makes the Anatomy module interesting and understandable. Amy is really patient and friendly which makes the massage module lots of fun. The classes are available on a Wednesday or Saturday and regardless of which day you've signed up for, if you can't make one week, you can attend on the alternative day - they're really flexible. There is an abundance of learning resources available and someone to email if you've got any queries. I'd really recommend both of these modules :)

The worst University in london for international students. Please, don't ruin your career by coming at this low quality university as international students. Their treatment for international students is really worst. They Don't pass international students & also are not helpful towards international students at all to pass their course. They will accept your admission easily & eventually they will fail you at the middle of your course without helping on it to pass you & ultimately your career will end with huge frustration. Please, don't come to this University, please. Thanks.

A great campus and more importantly outstanding professors who care about your academic growth. I was really happy with my experience at St Mary’s (both times!). I received a First Class Honors In my BA degree and returned a few years later to complete an MA, which I achieved distinction in, and all thanks to the teaching and guidance of my lecturers. My qualifications, skills and networking attained at St Mary’s has helped me progress rapidly in my career. I would definitely recommend this university to family, friends and colleagues.

Some enthusiastic and dedicated faculty members work in the PGCE program. Other than that, it's another corrupt, Catholic organisation that takes advantage of foreign students and then spits them back out to their home countries. The academic admin is mediocre at best and they close ranks against you if you have a concern. The student union is a puppet of the university and not an independent advocate so do not expect help there. You can do so much better.

I worked at St Mary's for nearly 4 years. It is the friendliest, most inclusive place I have worked. It felt like home. The academic staff are highly committed to their students and the support staff care deeply about what they do. Whether you're looking to be a student or staff member if you want to be part of a community that are supportive and caring then this is the place for you. I'd always highly recommend St Mary's.

To be a honest being an international student I have had any kind of advice and help from university as my course just running so fast instead of step by step.Even they haven't provided any workplacement in Msc sport and exercise physiology programme.I don't understand why there have just finished theirs lectures in anyspeed without practical skills and sessions. No could ready to listen international student's problem.

I paid for a short course £1650, was sent the course guide detailing what books and supplies I need to order/buy which I did. The course was cancelled with only 1 week notice, as not enough students signed up. I had to wait 2 weeks for a part refund, I am still chasing for the rest of my refund. Really poor admin which is a shame. I cannot comment on the teaching or facilities as I never got to go!

I have been on a fitness referral working with the team in the Fitness and Conditioning Suite It has been a pleasure to work with these folk. They are friendly and approachable. There is a real feeling of being part of a team working to improve my performance. The suite itself is modern and air conditioned so that you are able to work hard even in the heat of summer.

I only contacted St Mary's to get a prospectus on their MSc Physiotherapy degree and i just found the receptionist to be rude, unhelpful and i honestly hope this isn't a reflection on the University as a whole. I would love to come to the open evening but it's really off putting when you have someone on the other end who is rude.

Warm, friendly, welcoming, caring, close knit community. staff and students very helpful. informative. students whose parents earn just above and over 42,600 disadvantaged as do not qualify for any bursaries or scholarships, not even for £1,000 gift given to students with proven consistent outstanding academic ability.

As an international student, St. Mary’s university has helped me groomed not only professionally but personally as well. The faculty is extremely knowledgeable and supportive, the assessments are designed to challenge your critical thinking and decision making skills. I’m very grateful and proud to be a ‘Simmie’!

Outstanding sports hall in Strawberry Hill area of Twickenham. Large well maintained wood sports hall ( we played basketball but it is marked for several sports ) lobby has vending machines and personable front desk staff. Fields’s are excellent. There is also a nice strength and conditioning hall as well.

I have visited the university on its open day, had a fantastic experience with the student ambassadors who were really helpful and very friendly. It has been a pleasure to speak to some of the teachers who were available and helpful. Great facilities and outdoor spaces. Really enjoyed my day, thank you!!

Don’t expect anything useful from the office and admin department. They lost my original birth certificate and made me run round in circles trying to figure out where it had gone. No apology or anything from them. Don’t send out your personal documents to them unless you want them to be lost

  • David Blanch

The gym here is excellent, with lots of the latest exercise machines and weight lifting facilities. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to train. There is also a first class running track for athletes to train. Many overseas teams of all sports train here. Love to you all David xo

It’s very hard for international students and make their own rule and they don’t give you marks and take extra fees from international students and blackmail that we will take your visa and send back to home

  • Curad Osman

My favourite part about this university was the option for an independent project for your dissertation. However, the campus was quite hard to navigate. Still, a fascinating place to go.
