I am surprised there are so many five-star reviews for this facility given the lack of care I received from their staff when I was taken to St David's South Austin after being in a substantial car accident. When the ambulance brought me into the ER and I had a room, it took almost an hour for pain medication to be administered when I had been crying and unable to speak or breathe easily due to the pain, and I wasn't given IV fluids, so I became dehydrated, which was complicated by the fact that I lay awake sobbing in pain and trying to call for help for a few hours because I was left unattended in a cervical collar with instructions not to move. I ended up having to get out of the bed in severe pain to get assistance, and the last nurse I saw was incredibly hostile and combative. Dilaudid didn't work for my pain, which the imaging nurse confirmed sometimes happens, but the physician said should have worked because it's "really strong," which I understand is the case, but most of my family can't take pain meds because they don't work well. I didn't ask for anything stronger because I didn't want more medication, and the physician continued to attempt to gaslight me and smirk at me, indirectly accusing me of exaggerating my pain level, which I would not, as I wanted to receive appropriate care. At one point, the physician told me I should be in a good mood because my neck wasn't broken, even though I had a concussion and a cervical injury, along with my entire upper body being in excruciating pain. I also had a large lump on my head no one examined despite me mentioning it several times.The physician continued to tell me I should be grateful I wasn't dead like the person down the hall when I was simply trying to get proper care and compassion. Neither the physician nor the last nurse told me what my injuries were, nor did they properly discharge me and go over after care instructions. I had to read the instructions and incomplete diagnoses myself (I refused to sign a document stating I received proper care), which can exacerbate a concussion, an ailment I've had before and the one I sustained in the accident pertinent to this review was the worst I've had. The nurse said if I had a concussion it would show up on the CT scan or x-ray, which is false. Most concussions won't show up on imaging because the damage is on a microscopic level. The staff never bothered to confirm my pharmacy, so they tried to discharge me by sending prescriptions to a pharmacy I haven't used in years, and I had to remind them multiple times to correct it. I have been to the ER a handful of times in my adult life, and the experience I had at St. David's South Austin was completely unprofessional, unacceptable, and unsafe (aside from not going over my injuries with me or after care, I told them I was having trouble swallowing, and they had me lying down on my back dehydrated from muscle relaxers and Dilaudid without anyone checking on me for a few hours). I understand that people come in with injuries far more severe than mine, but that doesn't mean I don't deserve to be treated with the same level of compassion and care, especially after disclosing my disability status. You don't have to break a bone to be in severe pain when a driver under the influence plows into your stopped car going well over 40mph. I would rather be lying in a ditch than return to the traumatic, bigoted, unsafe, and deplorable treatment I received at St. David's South Austin.

This will not be brief. I brought my spouse in to the ER for a kidney stone. We had already spent 6 hours at the urgent care center and they couldn’t get it out, but they were all but certain that it was a kidney stone. They had documented evidence and told us they were concerned about all the fluid they pumped in getting backed up in the kidneys. They gave us detailed paperwork. The ER was absolutely packed. There were nothing but hard chairs to sit in, one measly bathroom and a drinking fountain that was several feet down the hall next to a bin full of soiled laundry. We were told we’d have to wait. Need I repeat that we were there for a KIDNEY STONE? Kidney stones are more painful than childbirth, yet my spouse was forced to sit in the waiting room, writhing and moaning in agony while having to wait over TWO HOURS for pain relief. When we were finally taken back to see a doctor, she didn’t believe it was a kidney stone. Really made us work to convince her that that’s what it was — my spouse has had plenty in the past (one only 2 months ago) and recognized the symptoms, AND we had the paperwork from the urgent care! She finally ordered the morphine, but the fact that my partner had to wait so long and try so hard to convince them is just appalling. I don’t care how packed the ER is, you do not force people to sit and suffer excruciating pain and claim that it’s all “first come, first served.” Nobody else in there was dying. Nobody else was writhing and thrashing and crying and vomiting. No, only my poor spouse. The ER experience was none too pleasant for me, either. Parking is a travesty, requiring a pretty long walk from a crowded lot that’s not nearly big enough. There was a woman talking loudly on her phone the whole time, who appeared to have nothing wrong with her requiring the services of an emergency room. And worst of all, I used the restroom and was walked in on by a homeless woman who was clearly on drugs. (The door locking latch is apparently broken, unbeknownst to me!) She came inside and, with only a blank stare and no words, began washing her nethers in the sink, even climbing up onto the sink to clean herself and flashing EVERYTHING to me from the waist down. She was completely naked on the bottom. Security took her to the back and, I assume put her in a room, while everyone else in the ER had to wait upwards of 3 hours for a bed. The CT scan proved that it was a sizable kidney stone. The drugs were dispensed (though not nearly enough) and at about 1am, my spouse was finally discharged, having still not passed the stone. They turned out fine after a couple days, but this experience will stay with me for a long time. I’m appalled and disgusted. My spouse was neglected, the doctors were cold, the waiting room was dirty, and I’m sure this hospital will have the audacity to charge us thousands of dollars for their top-notch service.

I came in early Tuesday morning, having a good idea of what was wrong. After a scan, it was confirmed. While I was here, the doctor gave me a medicine via iv along with some normal fluids. I was released with antibiotics and pain medicine. My condition only got worse after leaving so I returned back here a day later, as instructed in my original discharge papers. I get here and they start to work right away. They run me through another scan and they realize my condition had indeed gotten worse. I had been fairly satisfied with the level of care I had received up until this point. But that is about when any clarity of this situation had stopped. I was first told by the ER doctor that I was going to be admitted for observation so if my condition worsened and I needed immediate surgery, I would already be here. Moments later, my nurse tells me that I would probably be having surgery in the morning and that I had to wait for the hospital doctor as he would have the answer to that. The hospital doctor finally arrives and he tells me that the surgeon is supposed to come in and talk to me to let me know if we will be doing surgery. At this point, I’ve had 3 different answers about what is supposed to be happening, yet I still don’t have a definite answer. They move me to a different area of the ER as the hospital is full and they don’t have rooms for anyone they are admitting. I get a completely new nurse who has no pass down about why I’m here. She asks me the same questions I’ve been asked several times. I get 2 different antibiotics and then try to get some rest. I wake up around 3am feeling worse than I ever have during this medical issue. I call for the nurse and she explains that she can’t give anything for the pain for another 30 minutes, which is fine. I ask to talk to the doctor and she asks why. Because I want to know what’s going on, that’s why. It’s MY healthcare and I’ve started feeling worse since I checked in, so yeah, I want to talk to someone who is going to give me some answers. She then tells me that the GI doctor is supposed to come talk to me. I completely new scenario from the previous ones I was told. It’s apparent that no one here communicates with each other and no one knows what’s going on. I’m still sitting in the ER, waiting for a room upstairs and waiting for an answer from someone who is actually capable of making decisions on what’s going to happen next or give me options.

I was treated after a car accident and was entirely neglected. The beginning was when no one agreed to fix my name on anything, it was spelled incorrectly and I asked reception, nurses, whoever I spoke with I asked. And then once I was finally roomed after an hour, the doctor was speaking on the phone while examining me and spoke to me directly maybe once during the whole process. He even excused himself multiple times mid-exam or conversation. I understand that hospitals are busy, but considering the bill I would assume I’d get more than 60 seconds of conversation. He ignored that I had gone unconscious and was in a constant state of dizzy. I was already in a 9/10 on my pain scale and my mother and partner had to advocate for me. He denied concussion and did not have any professional recommendations other than pain killers and anti-inflammatories. After this, he sent me on my way with 1 day of excused work. Following the accident I followed up with my PCP and was diagnosed with post-concussive syndrome, an injured sternum, kidney trauma, a traumatic brain injury, and PTSD. I’m in physical therapy, seeing a neurologist for migraines and my brain injury, and I am struggling and I really do think some of this could have been prevented if I had actually been given the time of day to be listened to. If the hospital had been more attentive I would have saved myself so much pain and struggle. I chose to believe when he said I’d be OK to return to work even though I could barely breathe or move without throwing up, and I would lose my job otherwise because he deemed after a disconnected exam that I would be ok to return after 1 day following a major accident. I’ve attached the same photos I showed the doctor regarding the accident. Please tell me why he assumed I was exaggerating my pain. Also in my medical record he described me as histrionic and that my accident was a “minor front end damage” and referred to me as he in my physician report. Not only did he chalk my accident to a fender bender, but then said I was attention seeking when I was terrified and trying to keep a happy demeanor because I was being treated like a burden. The doctor indicated I had no seatbelt bruise when I have photos that clearly represent one. Why is it fair that a physician can blatantly lie on my record? It was maybe 30 minutes of his life maximum that he spent with me but this has affected me daily for over a year now.

Antibiotics is a known cause for Interstitial lung disease/idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (ILD/IPF). A few years ago, I took it for mild infection and it damaged my lung so badly that I was bedridden for two weeks. When I took CT scan two months later, ILD was found. On February 24, 2023 my SpO2 fell below 90% for the first time after a full-day work and over-exertion. This is the level for which oxygen supplement is recommended. After a long walk through the parking lot I was accepted to the emergency center of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. They administered supplemental oxygen on me at low volume and my SpO2 was stable at 98% before treatment. My blood test result was normal. During treatment, I repeatedly told them my prior experience with antibiotics and continuously objected to the use of it. Unfortunately they simply ignored me and continuously used large dose of it. My condition deteriorated. The oxygen was turned to the highest level while my SpO2 dropped to the lower 90s%. I repeatedly coughed blood and had to make great efforts to walk just a few steps to go to the bathroom in the room even with 24-hour supplemental oxygen. I was discharged after five days in a much worse condition than when I arrived. The doctor told me that they had ruled out the things they had suspected and that IPF was the cause, something I told them from the beginning. She also told me the antibiotics they had administered was the same type of antibiotics I had previously had a negative reaction to. Despite this, she prescribed the same antibiotics at discharge. There are a number of other negative experiences while I was at St. David hospital. They did not copy my name correctly from my insurance card into the computer. I repeatedly asked for a correction but had to wear the wrist-band with wrong name on it for the entirety of my stay. When I was moved to the impatient section the nurse could not find the medical record. In the middle of the night, a nurse came to draw blood. He did not know how and where to insert the needle. I was wheelchaired for a CT scan only to be taken back without doing anything because of a miscommunication. I was appalled with the treatment I received. There are lasting, serious consequences that I may never recover from.

I wish I could split this review into 2 parts; the ER would get 1 star, and the L&D ward would get 5 stars. But alas, I'm giving them the average. Upon being admitted to the ER, I was taken back to a room immediately. Pain medicine was given, and tests were ordered promptly. I was told it was a "stat order" and we'd get results in about 20 minutes. After that I was ignored for 4 hours straight. My nurse never returned to check on me. My husband spoke to staff at the desk twice, telling them I was in pain and needed my nurse. They said she would come, but she never did. It wasn't until a new nurse clocked in for his shift and took over my care that I was able to get any help. During this 4 hour wait, I was also starving hungry, but told I could not eat in case surgery was needed. After the 4 hours were up, a Dr visited. He said he didn't know why I was still in the ER as I was supposed to have been transferred to L&D and there was a bed ready and waiting for me. I was finally given more pain medicine and told I would be transferred soon. Dr gave me permission to eat. I felt a little better for a short while, but the wait for a bed continued. After about 2 more hours, my husband reached out to inquire. Apparently, my bed had been given away to someone else and now there was no bed for me. The nurse would not have voluntarily updated us with this information if he had not asked. After about 9 hours, I was finally transferred to L&D to the bed as promised. Once there, the quality of care was exceptional. The nurses were attentive, and did not seem burdened by any of my requests for items that might bring me comfort. Heat packs for pain, an extra pillow, ice for my water, etc. They checked in on me regularly and were great at communicating and relaying information between my Dr and I. They made sure I received pain medicine at the appropriate intervals without any lapses. Hospitals typically involve a lot of waiting, but at least in the L&D ward I was kept in the loop and never felt ignored or like I was being hung out to dry. Shout out to nurses Kelly and Mandy for their kindness and positivity!

Do not go to this emergency room. If you have to call an ambulance and they try to take you there, I strongly suggest you don’t. My partner had a seizure at home and we were taken there. They didn’t have the appropriate staff, so they wheeled in a tele-health video camera and had an on-call neurologist (Dr. Saeed Umair) speak to him. That doctor took the video call from his BATHROOM at home and rushed us off the call after 3 minutes, with minimal investigating and zero time for us to ask any questions. See the picture for an idea of the attentive doctor who saw us. The hospital forgot to order my partner’s blood thinner medication (that he has to take very strictly to prevent stroke) despite several requests, causing my partner to miss his medicine for nearly 60 hours. When we got home, the medicine was out of his system, which caused a stroke and another hospital visit. This time we knew better and went to Dell Seton. We reported this incident along with others to the hospital “patient advocate,” but were told the case was closed via a form letter a few weeks later. We also requested all of the doctor notes which revealed an entirely other story that was not communicated to us, along with misrepresentations of what we communicated to the doctors. It was clear from the notes that the were trying to fit a narrative that they had already decided upon before even speaking to us- especially with the omission of details in the report. I know in an emergency, it’s scary and you trust that you’re going to be taken care of, but this place was a joke. They caused more harm by messing up the medication order and inducing a stroke, pushed us out the door without any next steps (other than a printed sheet from a Google search results with local neurologists), and wasted our time in figuring out what’s going on. Sharing this to hopefully protect you and your loved ones from having to go through this. Avoid at all costs!

Avoid this hospital (and any other that is HCA owned at all cost). This hospital, and that word is used loosely, is the most incompetent and unprofessional one I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. My sister was admitted to this place at the end of August and after being moved from the ER they "lost" all of her belongings. They moved her to the ICU and other departments with no explanation and lied every time I called telling me she was fine when she was actually seriously ill. She was restrained for a week and not given so much as a sponge bath in that time. On one occasion whomever answered the phone was rude and unprofessional telling me that I wasn't allowed to call and speak to my sister despite the previous employee transferring me saying nothing of the sort. Then this woman had my sister apologize on her behalf "if she was rude." I tried calling on multiple occasions to find her "lost" belongings and no matter who I was transferred to, refused to take responsibility, at one point even trying to make it seem as if she left her purse and phone at home, despite my sister texting me from the hospital upon arrival. I even called the patient advocate department on September 15th and left a message with my name and number and unsurprisingly no one called me back. I called the ER multiple times before I finally got someone willing to look for my sister's purse, they found that at least but her clothing and cell phone were never retrieved despite calling multiple departments, including security. The full story is much longer than this and is nothing but incompetent, unprofessional negligence from start to finish.

Emergency room care, and ICU care were excellent overall FOR MY FATHER, WHO HAD A HEART ATTACK! Once my father was moved into a regular room, I was not as impressed. The most concerning thing overall was the lack of communication about his medications while he was there, and upon discharge. While (At St Davids), they had taken him off of some of his medication, but did not communicate to me why and whether or not, I should restart them. From the beginning, they had his medication list that I handed them. I was never assured, nor was it evident that they put the information into their computers. Also, my father has mid-stage dementia, which makes it very difficult for him to learn new tasks. He does not use a walker and they were trying to force him to use a walker to go to the bathroom instead of allowing me to assist him walking two feet. Covering their backside for liability, actually made it more dangerous for him. I am his 24/7 caretaker, and instead of taking any input from me, the tech involved resorted to yelling and forcing her way up on my father. In addition, when I asked the charge nurse that that particular tech not return to the room, the tech told the charge nurse that I pushed her out of the way. The only thing I ever did was tap her on the shoulder with one of my fingers to get her attention so I could mouth something to her without my father hearing. All of this made a very stressful situation even worse. I have always loved Saint David’s and the people working there, and my father has had very good experiences when he has had to go there. This time not so much.

My most recent visit to St. David’s was the worst hospital experience in my life. I had been vomiting for two days before going to St. David’s ER. Upon arrival I was checked in and admitted to the emergency room quickly as expected. While there the service was less than desirable. I asked for some blankets because I was cold. The RN brought two blankets and set them on the bed offering no assistance in covering me. Keep in mind that at this point I hadn’t eaten or drank anything in about fifty hours so I asked for an IV. I shouldn’t have to ask for a IV. In fact this was the only hospital visit in my life that I had to ask such a thing. The only other medication I received was an aspirin. Then I was informed that they were going to admit me to run a stress test. I feel like none of the staff were paying attention to my concerns and that they were more concerned about running up my bill. I saw my back doctor a couple days later and after looking at the hospital records he quickly saw exactly what was happening. It seems to me that the staff was more interested in running up my bill rather than discovering what was the cause of the problem. My mother was an emergency room nurse for twenty years and would have been embarrassed if she or any of her coworkers treated health care in this way. I have since visited another hospital received better more accurate diagnosis and am on my way to recovery. L

I want to take a moment to say how exceptional our level of care was during our recent visit. My daughter had to receive a series of shots, which was obviously a stressful time for both of us. Our PA, Nick, was outstanding. From the start, he squatted down to be at eye level with my daughter. That might seem like a small thing, but I could tell it put her at ease, and allowed her to feel connected to her care team. He made me feel completely involved in the decision process, and I could tell that our daughter felt included in the conversation. Nick was also the person who administered the shots, and his care and concern was obvious to both of us. Really, I can’t say enough about him. He took a very stressful situation and put us both at ease. I’d also like to quickly mention our nurses, Luther and Mark. Luther gave our daughter the vaccine shot and was so kind and careful about it. He had a great rapport with our daughter. He was also the one to get us our follow up care instructions, and to get us checked out in a very quick and easy way. Mark went above and beyond to tell our daughter what a great job she did, and to tell her how brave she was. Really, what a precious team of care professionals you have. Thank you.

Absolutely the best choice for a procedure we could have made. From the time we entered for registration till the time we left. We were in EP( Electrophysiology ) floor. 4th floor. The clerks, the nursing staff, even the cafeteria workers were absolutely amazing. We felt a little rushed to leave as my husband recovered and did express it and one of the male nurse's who had a trainee with him the whole time joked and said” oh we are paid by the hour so you can stay as long as you like. “ That kind of helped us feel a little more at ease. Everyone was nice and accommodating. We ended being released same day. Within 3 or so hours. Nurse Allison came gave us instructions and made us feel very knowledgeable of what to expect once we left . She was amazing and very sweet. We were comfortable and going back to our for recovery, knowing she was available to answer any questions or concerns that arose once we left. She has most definitely been so helpful and has always called us back when we leave her a message with any questions or concerns. Dr Zagrodzky and staff took care of my husband better than I ever imagined. We are so grateful, thankful and blessed. Thank you all!

Good and bad… Good: The person who did my echocardiogram was very personable and I felt very comfortable with the process. Bad: intake seems to have incorrectly noted my DOB. I confirmed this problem with the person when I scheduled the appointment with and she told me she’d corrected it. However, upon completion they send an activation link to get into the portal to get your results. I can not get in because it asks for name and DOB and the system complains invalid personal info. I contacted the help desk for the portal and they confirmed that my DOB is incorrectly input on the database. But they don’t have the ability to update that DB record and kindly advised me to contact the hospital administration to get that updated. Every time I call I get disconnected after waiting for several minutes leaving me at a dead end and very frustrated. My heart health results for this echo is very important for me to be able to upload to other providers and timing is critical. I’m hopeful that this gets resolved quickly but I am not sure if it will. Not a great user journey there St. David’s!

Facility was nice. My wife liked her doctor. Nursing staff needs a LOT of improvement for the sake of patient safety. When my wife screamed "the baby is coming!" because her contractions suddenly intensified, the nurse assigned to her panicked and ran out of the room... with my wife standing in the middle of the floor. I had to pick her up and carry her to the bed myself, and then caught our daughter alone as she arrived. A bunch of other nurses ran in shortly after. The same nurse then proceeded to panic and couldn't work the IV controls but didn't say anything until 15 minutes later. Wife lost almost a half liter of blood because the proper meds weren't flowing until the doc came in and took over. No apologies from anyone on the nursing staff. But, that same nurse did chase us down the next day to remind us about masks in the empty hallway. Priorities I guess? All is well that ends well, but either my wife, my daughter, or both could have been lost due to sheer incompetence from one nurse.

The only thing that I whished happened, was that the doctor should have told me that my blood work showed signs of infection or a virus + my potassium was low, which could have been related to the chest pain and pressure that brought me there. He did asked me to follow up with my doctor's, which I did right away. My PCP, is who brought it up the blood work results, as I woke up with tennis balls size lymph nodes in my neck next day on Monday. Also I wasn't prepared for the side effects of the heart CT contrast injection, because I said that I had contrast for lung CT in the past, but it was completely different. I thought I was going to die, burning up from the inside out. The guy was very gentle, sweet and nice, but I wasn't expecting that reaction. It was extremely scary. I must say that the care was excellent from arrival to the time I was released, from receptionist, the guy that put the Ivy, nurse and doctor. All were wonderful to me and kind!

I am so impressed with the Women’s program at St. David’s South. They have outdone themselves with respect to clinical care and relationship. During the process of surgery and delivery and even after surgery, the doctors nurses and staff provided excellent care. As a black woman and as a black mother, there was an initial fear, with respect to maternity care, that we will not walk out of a hospital improved or in some cases that we will not walk out alive, due to the statistics that show that black women in America are having much higher mortality rates than others no matter socioeconomic status or region. The St. David’s executive leadership and the doctors and nurses on the floor were all intimately involved and concerned and passionate about ensuring the surgery and delivery and post-op care was all beyond exceptional. I dare say extraordinary. I am recommending this hospital to everyone I know and especially to those I love.

The doctor would not listen to me at all when I told him exactly what the root cause of my high BP stemmed from. So after seeing him once he was trying BP meds when all I needed was a good night sleep, which I do not get. Finally the Psych come in to find out why I was getting hostile, then he authorized Xanax. I slept like a baby, I found what worked. As I was checking myself out AMA, the 1st Dr. to come by all day was trying to talk me out of it. So I took my normal round of meds in front of him. Then I told him I would post my BP hourly to let him know (since he ignored me all day), I will take care of it. I did. The sequence of the pics as follows: Pic 1 was my BP in the hospital as I am going AMA. Pic 2 shows where I tuned it in perfect. After 15 years of high BP, I know how each med and dosage affects my body. Social media is having a field day with my post about how bad my so-called treatment was.

As a first time expecting mom and dad, we cannot express how great our experience at St David’s south was! From the check-in, to each day and night nurse, all the way to the food they offered was amazing. Shout out to night nurse Lina, day nurse Natalie and night nurse Riley. They all made us feel welcome, super attentive to any questions or concerns we had, easy to talk to and made us feel very cared for. Lina and Natalie even came back the day after we had delivered (they were not working) to check on us and meet the baby. Our postpartum nurse Amy was exceptional as well and you can tell she thoroughly enjoys what she does! Very detail oriented and wanting to help with any discomfort or questions we had. In the moment I arrived to the moment of left everyone was wonderful. There is a very short man at the entrance and I told him I was there for heart procedure and he said I was in the right place and the best place. Then there is Alejandro and Hector, both nurses, they are quite attentive professional and I felt like I was surrounded by family. Then there was a nurse to start him IV she was really good at it and made a potentially uncomfortable experience as pleasant as she could I cannot remember her name but she has got diabetic monitor on her right upper arm underneath her long sleeves. And she she has 2 cats and 2 dogs at home The procedure was explained to me completely a new exactly what they are going to do they did it and they did it well and this is definitely the place to go

Be aware that a modern hospital has to pay for the ultra expensive equipment, but not really them its you that will pay the hospital $3000 to wait 4 hours in their er, then have a doctor bill of $3000 for his 15 min treatment and just so you know, you will be charged or rather your insurance $400 an hour to be observed before you're allowed to leave. Dislocated shoulder costs about $7000 to treat here. If you have to pay then you come in broken and leave broke. Now do you see it's not me that is broken but the system is? Can you see the future of this system... ever increasing costs yet my wages don't go up. We're here to keep the hospital and doctors alive! Hospitals have turned into parasites because of insurance costs to you and them. We're all caught in a corrupt system of money that defines modern slavery. ps The services were 3.5⭐️

For the most part the care was good. What I didn't like is the focus going away from my injury to searching for something that may or may not be there. Which is why I declined many tests that were ordered. The surgeon was great, however, I am unable to see him for a followup, which is a bummer considering I wanted to ask him questions. The nurses were great. The aids were not so good. I had only one aid who took the time to be sure I was OK. The food choices were excellent. All in all I am rating this 4 stars primarily due to most of the attitudes of the aids. It seemed the ones who were not caring came from another country on some sort of work visa. The one who was caring was full blooded American. I'm not prejudice, but this isn't their country.... it's ours. They can learn these skills elsewhere.

A recent medical issue forced me to stay overnight at St David's South Austin Medical Center. I was leery of having to spend the night in a hospital. My fears were totally unfounded. The comprehensive and compassionate care I received from the staff, techs, nurses and doctors was amazing. My room was clean and comfortable. I was dreading the discharge process as I heard it could be a time consuming process. Nope, not the case. Once I was told I was going to be discharged, within a very short-time a discharge staff person greeted me at my room and wheeled me down to the "Discharge Lounge". There, the staff person provided me a summary of my care along with some better health literature. I was then offered a free Lyft ride home. Totally unexpected. Thank you to all the professionals at St David's!

I had a pleasant birthing experience here. Friendly staff and a successful vaginal birth that I’m happy with. One star deducted because they majorly botched my paperwork. Check your papers before leaving the hospital! I looked at the paperwork a couple days after coming home to find several mistakes. They marked my daughter as receiving a vaccine she never got because I declined it. They marked me as having Medicaid. I have private insurance. They marked me as single. I told them multiple times I was married; my husband was present the entire time; we wear wedding rings. There were several errors, but these were a few glaring ones. We called the hospital to have them correct the numerous mistakes and were told that they couldn’t change anything and it wasn’t a big deal. Very concerning.

It would be a 5 if I got feedback from my doctor after my colonoscopy. I always had feedback in previous procedures. Now on to the team that did earn a 5 star rating. The receptionist when I came through the front doors received me with a warm greeting and lead me to the registration desk. Everything was on line and ready for my to sign electronically my approval and releases. It was a flawless check in. Then my nurse greeted me and took me back to prep me. She was fun and very professional. My anesthesiologist and his staff member Mitchel were awesome. When I woke up I was disappointed with no doctor quick visit and some of his notes in typical doctor writing couldn’t be read. A nurse reviewed the quickly and I was out the door. All in all it was a great experience. Thank you team.

The place is dirty. Food not so good. Nurse Stella let me bleed all over my my hospital gown when she would not answer my nurse button. Mary the cleaning lady , walked I. my room , washed her hands and walked out doing nothing! The admitting Dr. would not give me my sleep and pain medicine on the 1st night in ER! My hospital room was the ER Room, and I was then wheeled to some holding area and left by myself for hours! At least someone brought me breakfast. I had to pee so bad that I crawled out of my bed to a bedside commode and then crawled back into my bed! The chemicals were horrible! The hospital is not a good one! They also kept my brand new bedside potty chair on the non-emergent ride home??? I cannot tell you how unhappy I was at this place.

I delivered my second son at SAMC and had an incredibly positive experience! My labor and delivery nurses were all fantastic, they even delivered the little guy because he came a bit quick at the end. The postpartum nurses were caring and respectful of our time after delivery. Unlike other facilities that woke us up after delivery almost every 1-2 hours, they gave us space and only woke us up when we asked them to. My husband and I have nothing but great things to say about our experience here and I would happily send other women to SAMC to deliver. Was denied medical care by a Indian male doctor with in the last few months. " You didn't bother telling me you called EMS this am so I am not going to provide medical care to you" I am sorry but not sorry I didn't go to the hospital for story time " or to tell a book about" well this am I called EMS and this and that and that they committed illegal this and that ". So no I came to the hospital to be treated for something that is a medical issue..not to discuss matters that really don't concern you. EMS should be concerned with thier responsibilities and their current patients not discussing how I called EMS . So what . That isn't a valid reason to even be discussing. Who cares if some one didn't tell you that they called EMS.

I had a very long labor spanning 2 nights of great care in the delivery unit. Once our little one arrived, we were transferred to the maternity section where we decided to stay an extra night (2 nights total) so we could learn from the amazing staff. As new parents, we asked a lot of questions and every nurse and specialist (shout out to Grace, Natalie, Rachel, Maribel, Lesley, Donna) took the time to provide guidance so we could feel better equipped to go home. The hospital only has a few babies at a time, so the care is much more focused and personalized. We loved everything about our experience and I recommend St. David’s South for delivery and labor one hundred percent.

Worst care I've ever gotten. None of the staff listened to me, they cancelled my CT and didn't realize for 4 hours. I sat in the waiting room with no one talking to me for 7 hours besides to take me back to the mistakenly cancelled CT and then they discharged me 3 hours later. Refused to do an ultrasound or even examine me. Went somewhere else and was diagnosed immediately. Don't come here, they won't listen to you. I understand they were busy, but they let me shake in pain for 7 hours with no help. Do you know how demeaning, embarrassing, painful, and horrible that is? If you were going to do nothing you could have saved me the 7 hours of wasted time and energy.

The 3rd floor south medical and support staff were simply outstanding in their care of my mom. We encountered many wonderful doctors who took excellent care of all of us. Dr. Kayla Kelly is exceptional. She truly listened to our concerns and developed a plan of action that met the medical and emotional needs of my 95 yo mom who had been so badly injured in a fall that she was brought in by helicopter. I cannot stress enough how much Dr. Kelly means to my family. Everyone from the Emergency Department to the 3rd floor south staff to house keeping and food service were caring, professional, patient and family centered individuals. I highly recommend this hospital.

The only issue I have with this hospital is the emergency room. I was rushed there from work due to a lot of pain. Between the doctors and nurses in the emergency room I was ignored each time. They kept giving medicine that was making me more sick and not helping, but once again ignored me. Thank goodness my mom was on her way there cause the minute she said something is when they decided to listen. They ended up transferring me to another floor which I finally received some help for my pain. I don’t understand why some doctors in Austin treat black people especially women like this. I now had to find a doctor out of state that cares about their patients.

Everyone was fantastic. I’m from Michigan and was here visiting when I had to go to emergency for my heart. The doctors and nurses far exceeded my expectations. Way better than the hospitals in Michigan. The only complaint I have is regarding discharge. The discharge paperwork was of absolutely no help. I asked about my medicines, a new prescription and how to get my records to take back to Michigan with me. The discharge lady handed me a MyHealthONE pamphlet and said go there and said have a nice day. Then when I got the follow up text from the hospital I said I wanted someone to call me to discuss my medication I still have not gotten a call back.

You will die here waiting to be seen.. no lie terrible terrible place.. staff is rude and unhelpful and not to mention racist, I have a ruptured hernia and they didn't care I sat in er waiting area for 4 hours with no pain care, watched multiple people with less life threatening problems get called in to be treated, I've never been so disappointed and disgusted with a hospital before.. the tray they had for taking blood was filthy, the er waiting area was dirty and unsanitary and after 5 hours of waiting I left without treatment from them. I didn't want to die of sepsis in the er hallway waiting. seek help from somewhere else you won't get it there

Recently went to the emergency room here for my girlfriend after she was in a car accident where her SUV rolled over and airbags deployed. No one checked for concussion symptoms or performed a neuro exam despite her suffering from a headache and being nauseous. After 5 hours of harsh lights and waiting on imagining we got told she was fine and was prescribed ibuprofen AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT. She's currently on the couch and in pain. If you have the option to pick your emergency room, go somewhere else. Oh and the state of the room she was in was disgusting. Picture of the floor included. I didn't take one of the unwashed bedframe she was on.

I've found a nice lawyer to help me sue St. David's for medical malpractice. I continually declined the treatments and tests they wanted to run, but they strapped me to a gurney and wheeled me from room to room anyway, hooked me up to sensors and monitors, let unwelcome people into my room without my consent, and made a butchery of my IV. There was blood all over the bed where the "technician" attempted to insert the needle five times and failed, then had to switch arms. My whole left arm is black and blue two weeks later. I've never been so mistreated by a "professional" organization, and that's saying a lot.

Been here since 11pm yesterday and still haven’t got a room yet. It’s been 14 hrs and seen a nurse come check on my dad 3 times. I understand it busy but you can at lease check on the patient. My dad is 89 years old and has dementia and don’t speak English too well. So I been here with him all this time cause I don’t want to leave now since they don’t even check on the patient. I hit the call button 30 min ago to see if someone can come change his wet diaper and still no came. Now they are trying to move us to another room down the haul way not even a room smh. Horrible service.

Overall, my experience as a first time mom was great. We had issues in the OR and my doctor gracefully manage and corrected the issues my body gave her. Post operation, we had a few issues with the pharmacy providing pain relief, which trigger excruciating and unnecessary pain. I believe this could have been mitigated, but after a day, we finally found a good pain relief schedule. Most of the nurses were incredible with my baby and me. I hope that the issue with the pharmacy was corrected or proactively managed in order for no one else to experience what I did.

I only had one nurse that was not acceptable. I do not know his name, but he was on duty on Thurs. the last day of my stay. He was efficient, smart, but rude bordered on being mean. The rest of the staff was great!!. I felt the hospital is under staffed. It often took 45 min. for the nurses to respond. I was hooked up to an IV and needed help going to the bathroom. Also I needed to walk and they could not unplug the IV or had no one to walk with me. I felt safe and well cared for. Overall the hospital is good. I would come back to St. David's

Took my husband there he had severe lower back pain. Nurse know it all says it's a muscle spasm gave him a shot and 2 pills they didn't work was told he was going to s w the Dr and have an X-ray done. Didn't see a Dr nor did he get a x-ray, told the nurse to leave him alone that she is no Dr and how can you determine what is wrong with me without a x-ray, she got mad called security to escort us out. They were even a disgrace uniforms dirty wouldn't provide there names when my husband asked. I truly hated this hospital.

I spent a few days in ICU and the nurses were great. I got moved to the regular floor and service went down hill. Was supposed to be released on one day then the drs didn’t have their act toghether so had to stay another night.,Was told I’d be out buy 12,:00 and it is now 5:4” pm and I’m still here. Everytime I have called for my nurse today it has been an hour before he came. This last time it has been an hour and 4” minutes and the nurse stil has not come in. I won’t come back here again unless it is my only choice.

My experience at st.David’s South was great overall. The nurses, and staff were amazing at explaining the process, and procedure. My favorite part was that all the nurses were so caring. My favorite nurse was Kendall who went above and beyond with not only taking care of me, but my newborn. My only feedback for improvement would be for the Lactation Consultant who hardly came to provide any guidance and coaching with breastfeeding. This department didn’t provide needed care and support that new first time mom needs.

I just recently visited this hospital while waiting for a relative. I went down to the cafeteria and ordered tenders and fries plate same as my sister I was charged one price and my sister another. I was charged 4.49 tenders and 1.99 fries and my sister was charged 5.29 for a tender basket. When I asked about it Laurie said “it is what it is” really?! How professional, I am a retired veteran have seen rude people but she took the cake. Please have a take about customer service and correct pricing of items. Ty

The whole staff was amazing! I would choose the same crew over again! Maddison, in labor and delivery made me feel so comfortable, she was so genuine and sincere. Lessly, and Megan in postpartum were amazing as well. They taught me so much, and made sure I was comfortable. I never once felt judged, or out of place. Dr. Walker, and the crew of momma bear nurses were amazing when it was all said, and done. They were so easy to communicate with, never once did it feel like my concerns were dismissed. <3

Matt was a tremendous nurse. I’m 73 years old and have never been admitted to a hospital. Never had an IV. Never had a procedure done..Matt is in the Heart unit. Dr AMJADI did my procedure and it was not stressful because of his excellent staff and of course him also. Your receptionist that checked me in Jana was the start to a very pleasant experience that I thought would be very scary and stressful. She was very kind and calming to start with. Horrible experience. Waited 5 house with an iv in the waiting room in er. Was accused of leaving to go put drugs in my own iv when I went to get a snack from vending. They had my blood and urine and I am not a drug user. I am a cancer survivor. Then all the women in the admissions were braiding each other's hair and laughing and making fun of me very loudly. When I finally did go back she said we're just gonna medicate her and send her home. I will be calling patients advocate tomorrow.

I don’t remember all their names unfortunately, but I would like to thank all the nursing staff, in particular, Diana who helped me with me admission, and Lydia who was there after my surgery and helped with my discharge. I’m of course grateful to my surgeon Dr. Esquivel for the great skill and care he’s shown during my surgery.

I’ve never heard of a hospital that limits visitors during the end of a patients life or makes them leave because “visiting hours are over” only to pull the patient off life support a few hours later, and have them pass away not surrounded by their family. Not saying 30 people need to be in the room but you can allow more than 3 visitors in the room during this devastating time. What if that was your family member? In a ome situations the visitor policy can be adjusted. Do better.

I would give zero stars if I could. I went there for surgery this morning and was told that I would have to pay my copay up front (over $1000) in order to have the surgery. I have never heard of any hospital requiring this before, and it certainly was not communicated to me before my surgery time. If they had told me ahead of time, I never would have scheduled it, and we would have all saved some time, and I could have avoided a lot of stress and 2 hours of driving for nothing.

My and my husband went here today because I was vomiting and had very bad nausea. With me being almost five months pregnant I wanted to go here. So glad that I did! The nurses are just caring and the Doctor we saw was just amazing! They explained what they were doing before they did it, and gave me information on how to find a doctor( I just moved here and can not find a doctor). I want to have my son here!!! My Mum has had multiple stays at St. David’s South. The level of care and compassion my Mum receives with every scheduled or emergency stay has been the same, excellent. Every staff member treated her beautifully, respectfully. I recommend St. David’s because when you need medical attention and healing, they know just what to do so you can go home with a smile. I was just a visitor. I noticed how rude the ER receptionist was being to everyone she checked in. Extremely skinny younger white lady with long brown hair wearing a ponytail. I don't know if that is how she was trained but she seemed very irritated like the people that walked in were bothering her. A nice employee at a hospital is hard to find now a days! Very entitled energy! Not surprised a bit about the horrible service.

I couldn’t be more thankful for my labor experience here! I elected an induction and my body didn’t love it. I ended up being in active labor for a long time and got an emergency c section. I felt so safe, informed, and taken care of every step of the way. Kimber in labor and delivery really stood out to us and so did Jenna, Maddy, and Paige in postpartum. Overall, I’m just so thankful for the wonderful staff!

Incredibly, the ER was not busy and I was examined fairly quickly. St. David’s has had a rough reputation for being slow and disorganized and even “ghetto”. Happily it was not that late afternoon! Families panic and situations become chaotic but there must be order, patience and trust. I saw friendly faces and met traveling nurses bc there are still staff shortages. T Y for treating me very well and quickly.

The staff at St David’s south was just on it, from the moment we arrived. They were on top of everything, answered all of our questions and just very helpful. My mom was with me and she said it was the smoothest hospital experience she’s ever had. Nurses were great and made sure I was comfortable and that we were completely taken care of at all times. We are always very welcome my husband was submitters to the emergency and customer service was so quickly as soon they knew that my husband had cancer they separate him from other sick person and they took his vitals within 5 min after arrival and within 15 minutes they got a room and take care of him quickly… overall it is a great hospital and the nurses and all staff very attentive I will do a 5 star

Most of the doctors & nurses were excellent. My room nurse, I believe her name is Mary, she came from West Bend, Pennsylvania. She was just charming, very funny & we had a wonderful time with each other. I miss her! The hospital itself is very nice.The ER doctors & nurses were busy but very responsive. I thank them. The food gets 4 stars. I think St David's South needs more entree selections.

A family member had to make a visit to the ER one afternoon. It was close to 5pm. We spent no more than an hour there. I was absolutely shocked! The check-in process was smooth and quick. The wait to be seen was quick and all the nurses were super friendly. An object was removed from an eye, medication was prescribed, and we were released. The areas that we were in were clean and tidy!

What an incredible staff. My 92 year old father needed some help as he had been having severe stomach issues. From the moment we entered the ER the entire staff did a wonderful job of making everyone comfortable. My stay at St. David's South Austin Medical Central was very good. Each and every staff member I encountered, from housekeeper to physician, was friendly, courteous, efficient, helpful, and engaging. The food was delicious, and I especially liked that I could set my own meal times. Aside from one incident with an overbearing EKG tech, I had no unpleasant experiences in this hospital.

Went to the emergency room and everyone including the nurse at check in, the emergency physician, the nurse that took my vitals, the nurse that monitored me in my room, and the imaging specialist were all very kind and helpful. Due to the labs I needed it did take a while to be discharged, but I left feeling well taken care of and confident in the treatment plan.

Care was fine. Super short staffed, patients lining the hallways and staff often not aware of details and/or what previous nurse/doctor had administered/ordered. Chaotic however probably doing the best they can under the circumstances. It's a machine. And as per these types of facilities these days, food is barely edible or nutritious. My husband was the one that was there for an accident. The ED receptionist was as can be & so was a nurse & tech. When he was in the back of ED he had ok care. The techs were great. When he was finally moved to a room after being admitted, those nurses upstairs were wonderful. He received quality care from them, OT & PT.

Everyone was very nice and accommodating. Everyone seemed genuine and cared for my well-being. The only fallback was the long wait in the beginning and not being taken back til maybe 6:40 (7am procedure) and I was told to get there at 5:30 but maybe had to do with when the doc was ready for me. The staff was knowledgable and kind. I was very nervous and uneasy in peri-op and during surgery and the nurses and CRNA picked up this without me saying anything. They were attentive and communicative throughout the process which was imperative for me to enjoy the birth of my daughter.

I went in for surgery and I found that St. David's South to be an excellent facility with wonderful, sensitive, and caring staff. The free parking and free valet service are awesome. It is very welcoming and comfortable to visit even when visiting hospitals isn't usually any fun.

Amazing experience! Staff was awesome. As a higher risk patient, I felt like staff went above and beyond to listen to me and go the extra mile. Nurses and doctors were attentive and cheerful. Surgery is never easy but I would schedule my next surgery here without hesitation!

Everyone was so sweet and accommodating. Constantly making sure we had everything we needed to feel comfortable. Our baby was in the NICU for 10 days and they made sure we always knew his progress and helped answer all of our questions.

Took my daughter to the ER with abdominal pain. Everyone was very nice, but after 4 hours and only a few people in the ER, we ended up leaving. She did get an exam but was waiting for an ultrasound which we decided not to wait for.

I spent 28 hours in ER which was very difficult waiting on a bed. The care was very good and the staff attentive. After gotta room (7th). I had outstanding treatment from all disciplines. Great care.

I am so angry. I was told I had to leave my husbands room and not spend the night. He’s in CCU. This is absurd because if something happens I won’t know. I don’t have transportation. So I’m stuck
