Something special for our first night in San Francisco at Swiss Louis who has first opened in 1936. I’m not the seafood fan but my partner is and this place had something for both of us. Located at Pier 39, upstairs and towards the end, this restaurant is classy and has a beautiful view over the bay to Sausalito and the Golden Gate Bridge. Menu is extensive with plenty of variety. We had the deep fried mozzarella sticks and my partner had the steamed mussels and clams. Frankly, the mozzarella sticks were disappointing. Served on a plated of shredded lettuce, it didn’t look very appetising and I expected more from such a high calibre restaurant. The bowl of mussels and clams were served in a tasty broth and seafood cooked perfectly. For main course, I had the #fettuccinealfredo which was a good portion size but somewhat dry. A drizzle of olive oil would’ve made the texture smooth and add more flavour. My partner had the dungeness crab enchiladas. We both ordered Margherita cocktails. See photos for how stunning they looked. Tasted even better. Wine menu is vast and celebrate local wineries. To see is outdoor dining as well which is well decorated with geranium shrubs sprinkled around the seating. Disability access good. Dietaries can be catered for. Kids menu and high chairs available. Prices aren’t cheap. Have to say the service was excellent and staff fast, efficient and friendly. Finally, the views over the marina across the bay as the sun started to set was mesmerising. If for no other reason, it’s worth it for the views.

Came here with my family after a race for brunch/lunch on a Saturday. We came with a fairly large group and our host did their best to accommodate us. (This restaurant only allows two credit cards per table so they don't split checks). A little inconvenient but I understand. The waitstaff provided excellent service which is a big selling point for me. About half my group ordered seafood and the other half ordered Italian. The pasta was hit and miss. A couple people ordered lasagna. My sister shared some with me and to be honest it needed something. The sauce was tangy but I felt it neededsome seasoning.. Linguine al pesto was good but I like my pasta more al dente. Not the best that I've ever had but a solid 4 out of 5. They just need to be more careful when plating so it looks more fine dining and less Olive Garden. The calamari was nice and crisp (not chewy) and my husband's fish and chips were excellent. (I snuck a piece and the beer batter was super crisp and crunchy). Arguably some of the better fish and chips that I've tasted. Tiramisu was on the menu so I tried it. It's an actual tiramisu made with lady fingers and not layer cake. Overall, this was a good experience for coming in with my family. I wouldn't mind coming in again for the seafood.

The good: amazing location and view, excellent fast and attentive service, I did enjoy my lunch and meal here. The bad: we came here for lunch on a Saturday when the pier was very busy. All other restaurants had a long wait but Swiss Louis had many empty tables. I believe if they change a few small things they could be just as busy as everyone else. For one, bread is not free. With the prices they charge for courses they definitely should afford free garlic bread at every table. Two, they are labeled as a seafood and Italian restaurant but have no traditional fish options. If you come here interested in having fish (it is a pier restaurant after all) your choices are Salman or a mango chutney Basa fish. Most people I know would prefer a blackened Mahi or the similar. 3rd: no side salad. If you want to add some greens to your meal you are forced to buy a $12 full lunch size salad. Other than that the Blue San Francisco drink is great, mozzarella sticks were delicious, and the ravioli was OK. Edit: Got food poisoned!! What insued was 4 hours of absolute hell. Never again.

I love San Francisco and I love the touristy places. Fisherman's Wharf is all that and on the busiest of Saturday's Swiss Louis was pumping out all the charm and old bay magic! This food is great! I got my Sourdough Bowl of Clam Chowder fix and even delighted on a great baby shrimp cocktail. The cocktail sauce is the best I have eaten. It is spicy, but not overpowering. The wait staff in their flowing, white aprons operated a splendid orchestra of trays, glasses and more at a dizzying pace. It was great to see what I considered the old master owner or manager in his advanced age conduct this perfomance and fix any out of sorts and then quickly disappear upstairs to his lair. The calamari had a light, flaky feel and complimented the ravioli, and other Italian mainstays. Walk in Pier 39 over halfway through the hustle and crowds to the 2nd floor and give this a try. The views and private bathrooms may be just the perks you need! Don't forget the parking validation!

I wanted to really give this place 5 stars as it was in the heart of Pier 39, we were having a great day and so all of our moods were bright, and the views into the ocean from the restaurant was spectacular. And the food was decent too... very much on the bland side without much character. But it was an enjoyable meal. But something about this place was imbalanced. Something didn't go all together well. It almost felt like oysters were being served at a Denny's. Ingredients were fresh but everything around it felt off... it simply didn't come together. Despite reasonable prices, I felt I wasn't getting my money's worth. I will definitely visit again. But somewhat with tempered expectations and perhaps it might all feel better.

We visited this place last weekend and had expectations for delicious food as I have not been wrong about it before. I have tried several of seafood restaurants. Service was good but the food was inconsistent. While we liked the cocktail and crab cakes, the rest of the order did not meet the bill. My son is fond of ravioli and have never heard him complaining about it any other place. He left the food after trying a couple of them. Sea bass was bland and salad did not taste fresh. Don't bother ordering chowder at the place. At the end we left wanting for more. Looks like others in the past have had good experiences. It is possible it was not my day.

Food was so so so good!! Service was great, they were very attentive even as busy as they were! We walked in to see how long the wait was having came from another restaurant that told us an hour and a half, we waited 5 minutes and we had a table!! The portions were good size, the appetizers were amazing, the drinks, so so so good and while they didn't have Creme Brule, which I was so looking forward to having, the alternative didn't disappoint!! Everything was great!! Worth the price!! Will Definitely visit again when in San Francisco!!

We had dinner here yesterday. We chose this restaurant because of it's appearance, location to the bay, and menu options. However, we were highly disappointed with all three meals ordered. The food lacked taste and was extremely greasy. My sister could not cut into her Chicken Milanese. She only ate the pasta that came with her dish. The calamari was over cooked and extremely chewy. The fish and chips was under cooked and very greasy. The one redeaming point was the waiter did take the Chicken Milanese off the bill and was very apologetic. We would not recommend or ever go back.

We had a very tasty dinner at this fantastically located restaurant in Pier 39. While the food and service were both very good, the icing on the cake was the view and watching the sunbathing sea lions while we ate our dinner! My New York steak with veg was quite lovely, and my husband really enjoyed his crab taco, along with a very quaffable glass of Chardonnay and an excellent lime margarita. Not exactly cheap food but overall worth it for the whole experience.

My wife and I were walking around Pier 39 looking for a restaurant for dinner and came across this place. The restaurant serves Italian and seafood dishes. I had Fish and Chips, and my wife had Crab Enchiladas. The dishes were wonderful and flavorful! The appetizer (Fried Mozzarella Sticks) was good. The atmosphere was classy and elegant. The waiter (Fernando) and assistant waiter (José) were friendly and helpful. We sat near the window facing the San Francisco Bay, which was important to my wife. The views were amazing!

The food was very disappointing. We ordered a sea food platter to share, and the fish did not taste fresh at all and even lacked taste. Never in my entire life I did something back to the kitchen until now. Not one minute later after sending back our starter, we received our main course (that must be a very quick chef to prepare 2 different main courses within one minute). The main courses also lacked taste and were moderate at best. $100 very poorly spend..

We were coaxed in by the sweetest old man asking if we'd like a paper version of the map to look at. 10/10 service, they built us a table for 5 just to be able to look out the window and the cutest little lights for the table 10/10 atmosphere. They were pretty fast in getting us our drinks and getting us ordered. The food arrived and my noodles were perfect, al dente just like I like it. They even put a bowl for me to put my mussels in 10/10 food.

The main dish at Swiss Louis Restaurant are the views and attentive service by staff. Sure, the food is great but let's face it. You can can great tasting food at many places in a city like San Francisco. However, I haven't felt so at peace in years at a nice restaurant by just staring out the shore where sea lions were lounging in the setting sun. Next time you are at Pier 39, stop by this nice place on the second floor and let all your worries slip away for little while as you sip a cup of tea and stare out into ocean.

Customer service from the waitress was great! Can’t say anything bad about that. However, the food was such a disappointment. I ordered the baked salmon and it was beyond dry and tasteless. I also ordered the spaghetti for my baby and it was so salty. We came very hungry and were not happy at all with the food. The only tasty thing was the garlic bread. We won’t be back.

Food was decent, but the entire staff was extremely rude - basically pushing their way passed you to get to their table vs saying, "excuse me" or offering you the right of way. They also neglected to bring our full meal despite it being part of what we ordered and paid for or bringing out a pitcher of water after repeated requests. The facilities are rather run down and dingy.

Elegant atmosphere, nice interior design with helpful and kind hosts and servers and great views of the water/sea lions. Would not recommend the capreese salad! (tomatoes not flavorful at all) house white (Zinfandel) was very sweet but the clam linguine was good! Generally lovely for a pier restaurant but not a destination restaurant food wise

Pretty upset with the staff for this place. My boyfriend went ahead of me and was told he couldn't be on the waiting list until the whole party was there which is understandable but still a little frustrating since I was only a few minutes behind him. When I did get there we were told they were closed and wouldn't seat us. This was at 8:45 when the restaurant door says they close at 10. We went to the crab house instead and had a delightful experience.

Tasteless food, and uncoordinated service. Ordered a 3 course meal, where we got the drinks long after receiving the appetizer, and then the main course before finishing the appetizer. Neither the green salad, clam chowder, baked salmon or chicken parmigiano can be recommended.

Polite service, but the food sucked. My son ordered margarita pizza, and it was nothing like a margarita pizza. Clam chowder soup tastes like it came from a can. I had a tomato beer, and it was sour. Others at the table had a side order of spaghetti. Another one had ravioli's another one had chicken marsala. They had no complaints. I wouldn't go back.

Really disappointed, the prices and far too high for the tiny portions you are served. The food tasted ok but I shouldn’t leave still hungry when spending almost $35 for a pasta dish. The pasta dish contained more shells than pasta. The chicken dish had a tiny piece of chicken, wasn’t anywhere near a full chicken breast and they charged $28. The $6 cup of chowder was the smallest I’ve seen in my life.

  • Robin (sunrook)

If portions are what your looking for, this ain't it. However the taste makes up for it. The baked salmon's got a nice kick to it with the chili sauce! The staff are incredibly nice. The atmosphere is a little bland, but that's fine. Foods a little bit on the pricy side.

Nice view. The food was great. I had the Dungeness crab enchilada it was exceptional. Made with real crab. The only complaint I have the bartender could at least smile and be friendly. She didn't look like she enjoy her job. She didn't asked us if we needed a refil we have to get her attention.. But overall I would recommend the place. The food was on time.

I went to San Francisco for my 50th birthday. I had my birthday dinner at Louis. Very elegant atmosphere. The food was wonderful. I had lobster tails. They were delicious. Their Long island ice tea was perfect. The waiter brought me a slice of cake with a candle in it. They sang Happy Birthday to me. Sad I didn't get his name. It was a great experience to end my wonderful day.

I had a wonderful time at this upscale Italian seafood restaurant. There was a beautiful, romantic view of the bay that was lit up at night. Service was impeccable. I ordered frutti di mari, a mixture of seafood on a bed of linguini, and my +1 ordered linguini with a white clam sauce. Both were delicious.
