TLDR I paid $420 for balayage and tipped $100, 520 total. Would NOT recommend coming here for balayage. Save your money and time. The owner (Amy) and stylist chased after me on the streets for not tipping on corrections that was unsatisfactory and told me to take my review down. After the initial visit, I called the salon to let them know that I would like my roots to be darker since they were an orange brown (natural hair is borderline black). I never asked my roots to be colored and it’s standard to leave the roots alone with balayage. My roots were also uneven with color coming up higher on one side. They happily set up an appointment for me to get it fixed. I didn’t tip them for this because my roots were still an orange brown and both sides of my head looked noticeably different. However, I didn’t complain right away because I assumed that the stylist knows better than me and that it would grow out naturally like a balayage is supposed to. I left a 2 star review and wrote that I would not recommend this salon for balayage. A month later, I notice I have three color blocks on my hair: black, orange brown, and blonde. I hated it so much. When I googled it, every link says that if the client has naturally dark hair, you do not touch the roots for balayage. I reluctantly called the salon back to let them know of the situation and they allowed me to come in for a correction. They fixed my hair like I asked for but the dark dye ended up leaving spots on the blonde part of the hair. They told me it would wash away. I was really bothered by this and was planning to tip this time but ended up not doing so since a) they messed my hair up and b) I’m never planning on coming back since this salon and I are clearly not a good match. Not once did they acknowledge they didn't provide me with the service I paid for and actively made it seem like it was my fault. Once I left, the stylist and Amy came shouting after me on the streets and Amy told me “you didn’t tip last time either right? Then the least you can do is take down your 2 star review since we did everything we can to make you happy.” They explicitly told me I was an inconvenience to them for speaking up about their mistake. Unprofessional behavior.

I got a digital perm there a few days ago and it just took way longer than it should have. It took four hours for something that should have taken two and a half max. My stylist david was great however he left me halfway through my perm to take another client(who just did a cut so he couldve stopped mid way and work on my hair since I was there first and perming is time sensitive). I know this happens often in a busy salon but he did not manage his time very well. Because of this, my stylist told the shampoo lady to start neutralizing my hair which i dont think she was supposed to because she didnt do it evenly. Now one side of my hair looks beautiful while the other side is losing curls and is flat. I also didnt wash my hair after the perm for more than 48 hours. Its kinda ridiculous how how this happened and how the shampoo lady basically finished my hair half way when she wasnt supposed to because my stylist didnt time manage. They ended up giving me a free treatment which i didnt ask for and ended up taking more time. I paid $300 +$60 tip to end up with flat curls and some strands are basically straight.

This place is the BEST! Amy Bang has been cutting my hair for 3 years now. I refuse to let anyone else cut my hair, even during the several months Amy was away and preparing to open this brand new location, I just let my hair grow and waited for her to return. Amy truly enjoys her craft and loves what she does, which I really appreciate. She pays close attention to detail and will continue to work your hair until she feels it is perfect, every single time! She is friendly, communicative, attentive, and respectful. It's honestly incredible quality service at a great price point. And she can do it all! Guys, girls, old, young, any type of hair, and any type of hair service, all top quality work! Amy is dedicated and works hard, and it shows in her salon. It has a clean, bright, comfortable atmosphere. The hospitality here makes it feel like home. The hair-washing is to die for! The seats are comfortable. She uses top of the line products. I am so happy to write this review. The hair salon by Amy is the BEST hair salon I found after living in NY for 10 years. I live in the city and every two months, I go to Amy to get my cut and color done. I don't mind to travel to her because she is so worth it. I have been going to Amy for years and am so lucky I finally found the best hair designer here in NY. It is so hard to find the one you like. She has good attention to detail and great attitude. She cares every customers and making sure it was perfect. A lot of my friends asked me whenever I get my hair done. I highly recommend to go this place "THE HAIR SALON" if you have not find a hair designer you like. Price is reasonable! you won't feel it is expensive. Great service, kind and friendly. Also I like how she uses quality hair products. Many of hair salons use cheap products and does not care about damage your hair. I look forward to referring my friends and returning myself.

I booked an appt at 12 and when I came in everyone looked at me but never greeted or even said hi esp the owner Amy she completely acted like I wasn’t there and continued on with her book, after I went to get a wash it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t good they be making you lose brain cells with that wash after I washed I went to get a haircut and perm it was good until I went home and checked out how it looked and I noticed when it’s dry my hair cut was actually uneven along with the fact the perm didn’t stay. The whole left side of my hair was straight whole the right was curlier…I called them but it’s like they had blocked me by not picking up my phone calls unlike before I went to them , terrible service edit … actually let me rewrite it about how it’s only the owner Amy . I decided to try this salon out since I had a wedding the next day and I needed to get my hair done. I called and they were able to assist me last minute and we're very nice. I feel like the language barrier really didn't help. I have curly hair, I wanted layers and curtains bangs. I showed the stylist and the receptionist pictures on what I wanted and the length. He gave me a straight cut with regular bangs. If you don't understand what the client is asking for do not take on the cut. Once you cut the hair you can't put it back. The receptionist clearly explained layers to him and he still gave me a straight cut. I know if I would have gotten the layer I ask for the cut would have looked nice. They didn't use any product to protect hair from heat damage nothing. It's very unfortunate this happened because the salon is very cute and they are nice people.

From my experience I’ve always had a great time when getting a hair cut from David. He pays a lot of attention to detail and asks several times to check if I think the hair cut is looking good, it’s nice especially because I generally don’t know when to speak up so the regular check up is helpful. He and the other workers I found to be nice. Also to be clear on what can be expected, there can be a slight language barrier with a few of the workers but in my experience I show a picture and also tell them if the length of the haircut is fine. It may take longer, but I’m happy with it because they pay close attention and sometimes they may be busy with several customers but I think they handle it well. Overall great place.

After having bleached hair for a couple of months, I wanted to go a bit darker for the winter months. My friends had also gotten their hair dyed red at this salon so I decided to give them a shot. My total bill came out to 290 for a dye + hair cut with Amy. I really liked how my roots came out, the red over my black roots came out to a darker red brown tint. While the bright red wasn't what I was hoping for, I still think the color came out really nice. All the staff were super sweet and helpful with any questions I had. Just be warned if you have bleached hair, color will not stay on. Unfortunately the red only lasted 1-2 washes but that is to be expected.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Came to the store to get my hair cut and colored by Amy the owner of the store. She is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! She knows exactly what I wanted and executed it to the T! The store is very well kept and clean. Amy had abundance of knowledge regarding hair and different hair products. My hair WAS very damaged and a HOT MESS! When my hair was done, it came out FABULOUS! The product she uses is Schwarzkopf, I have to admit it is a great product. My hair is completely different and feels amazing! I am so glad I came to this store! I will definitely come back!!

It was the best decision to go there for my short haircut. All the staffs were very nice and warming. I got a tremendous haircut from, Brian! To be honest I was very anxious about my new short haircut because of my previous experiences. After coming here I am so satisfied with my new haircut. Expensive and not worthy! Stylist can’t even understand what customer’s need. Tried to explain what I want for my haircut and show him the picture of what I expected. The stylist did not even communicated with me just said ok. He need translator in order to understand what I was saying. But even after someone explained in their home language, he still don’t know what I am saying and what I want. And try to finish the haircut as soon as possible.

This is the only salon I trust with my hair! I specifically always request Amy. She is so sweet and accommodating, always providing me with the cut I want without me having to give a long explanation. I've never been disappointed with a cut. I always recommend The Hair whenever anyone asks and my whole family goes here! The salon is always clean and professional. Truly great service. It is worth every $!

This place is super awesome Even though the salon is smaller than most of other salons in Flushing and Amy is the only hair designer so far, the atmosphere here is very soft, cozy and convenient. I've done colors and perms several times here and everytime i leave the salon i feel huge satisfaction. Just make sure you make an appointment first since there are lots of people already scheduled.

Amy is wonderful! I'm a pain when it comes to my hair because it is so fine and hard to style. Amy had patience with me and gave great input. The salon was very clean and welcoming. They followed all of the COVID outlines. David was my stylist, he was professional and he did a wonderful job with my cut!
