I shop here regularly due to being in the neighborhood. Sometimes it’s for wine, sometimes beer, and sometimes liquor. Sometimes I want something simple; sometimes I want something new or a little nicer. Customer service is a real hit or miss, and the last time I was in was a real miss. It’s not that the staff is ever “unfriendly,” it’s more so that there’s a noticeable difference in which customers they direct their attention to and the tone and attitude they display. It’s not uncommon to wait several minutes to check out while all sales staff is occupied with other customers, only to then wait longer when they ring up the customers they just landed a sale with (or be made to feel like an inconvenience). I look young for my age, so I think the treatment I get is based on being perceived as a student. Word to the wise: when a customer asks, “Do you have X,” responding, “We sure don’t” is not the best sales tactic. Following it up by bragging about how great your selection is and then saying, “I mean, I can show you other options if you want” is also not a great move. The times when I have received enthusiastic assistance have usually been awkward and misplaced. Whether y’all like it or not, you’re a neighborhood liquor store, so learn how to better cater to a diverse customer base instead of just your dinner-party class of gentrifiers. It’s also not a good idea to assume the guy trying to buy some Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey can’t be sold on something else.

If you are looking for that unique whiskey, scotch, bourbon, and generally anything spirit related, The Austin Shaker is your spot. Kiki and David have done an amazing job selecting some of the finest offerings available. On top of that they are awesome people to hangout and talk with about all things adult beverage related. This place is not Specs or Twin Liquors, they care about the products selected for their shelves. I've been fortunate to have found unique and hard to find bourbons thanks to their incredible connections. They also do a wonderful job catering to those who love crafting a fine tasting cocktail, with barwares to support the endeavour. Hands down the best liquor store in Austin.

  • Gentry Hunter

AWFUL customer service. You would think when gentrifiers come into the neiborhood gentrifying the local corner stores, they would be grateful that you are giving them your business. Instead I wasn’t even greeted when I walked through the doors just stared at. (He greeted literally everyone else who came in) I asked if there was any reisling, he said “yea” and then walked me over to one. Then insinuated it was too expensive for me to buy and pointed me to less expensive white blend. I usually don’t write reviews but had to share my experience because this store is totally unwelcoming to minorities. Which is ironic because they’re in a minority neiborhood.

Walked into the Airport store with a friend and was not disappointed! We were looking for a more diverse selection than Twins or Specs and found so many varieties of every liquor. Once one of the cashiers noticed we were browsing, they came over and helped us narrow down our selection with knowledge amd confidence. After we left we tried the Mezcal we picked and it was everything we wanted! These guys are the best at finding the best selections from around the world and bringing them to our little corner! Thanks to Austin Shaker for being awesome!

Really great locally owned liquor store with a huge selection! Owners and staff are incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. I was looking for a rare bottle of bourbon for my dad for Christmas that no other liquor store in Texas had. And not only did they have it, but they had over 100 other rare bottles that they were auctioning off. Me and my girlfriend entered the auction and we both got our names drawn. So I ended up getting both my dad's present and a rare bottle that I otherwise would have never had the chance to have in my home.

My GF, sister and I walked into this liquor store to restock our bar, and we were greeted by Adam, who took us on an incredible whiskey-tasting journey. We grabbed some new exotic spirits that you can only get at the Austin Shaker. In addition to the fantastic range of liquors, they also have a copious amount of shakers, jiggers, strainers, bitters, etc. The list goes on. This is an Industry Connoisseur’s dream liquor store. I highly recommend it; a special shout out again to Adam, who made it such an unexpectedly great experience!

  • Markus Childers

I gave a star for the wife, who was great, but it would have been one star for the husband whose condescension began when he literally rolled his eyes at me after I walked in asking a question about how and what to buy at their store to get started learning to mix drinks. I was the only customer at the time. She came out and was helpful, and I think she seemed a little concerned about my treatment, so I purchased some stuff on recommendation that time. Maybe he was having a bad day but I haven't been back since.

  • Juwan Lockett

I came here to purchase a gift for a colleague and I was guided through a selection process of Mezcal by the staff. They even had tastings of bottles for me that peaked my interest. (Obviously that’s not something that they can do for every bottle) Nevertheless, I was blown away by the selection of Mezcal and the knowledge of the staff. I left knowing I made a great purchase!! I highly recommend checking this store out and truthfully they have a great selection of a lot of spirits not just limited to Mezcal.

We live down the st and have came here couple times before but after tonight's rude staff, me and my family will no longer be coming here. We were asked to wear a mask (which we did not refuse) and we didn't have ours in our vehicle so we thought we'd go back home to drop off groceries and come back. But as we were leaving, some of the staff pulled their masks off at the window and was constantly throwing gestures at us for NO REASON. What kind of staff does this. Very unprofessional. Ridiculous. .

THIS STORE IS MORE THEN AMAZING! My hobby is cocktails and I thought I've been to every shop in Austin. Oh how wrong I was this store sells practically every kind of unique liquor or bitters you can ever need or imagine. I focus on tiki coctails so my list of ingredients often pushes 6+ ingredients per cocktail and on my first walk thru the shop I found all the ingredients I've ever wanted or needed. these folks are amazing and stellar customer service. If I could rate more stars I would !

  • Mike Keller

I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a wide and unique selection. It is definitely not the liquor store you go to if you're looking to buy a handle of Fireball, Jose Cuervo and a few of those disgusting, pre-made jello shots in the little plastic cups. Despite the large selection of... well everything... the staff the day I visited were super helpful in guiding me through the forest of different brand labels on each of the shelves to find what I needed.

  • Sam Denton

The owners were in the bar tending business for a very long time before starting this new venture and they're both incredibly knowledgeable about alcohol and the bar tending tools they sell. Additionally, Dave is a cicerone, which is like a beer sommelier. If you walk in and give them some idea of the type of alcohol or beer that you like, they will work with you to figure out the perfect items for you. They haven't steered me wrong yet. What a great place!

  • Gilbert R.

I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 2 years, and being in the industry-- I don't frequent this store, but I'm telling you, every time I've visited-- I've felt like a celebrity. Red carpet treatment, every time!!! Special thanks to Autumn, Claire, and Trent; I appreciate the hospitality! Keep Austin Shakin' P.S. Adam has always been an all-star playa' as well, and I'm not sure if Chandler is still crew-- but much love

  • Stephen Lee

It was very busy when we went. While the selection is pretty nice, the customer service was not great. We had heard good things about the staff being friendly and knowledgeable for recommendation, but we never felt like the person either had the time or inclination to chat about their products. It might have helped if we were a bit more knowledgeable about the world of spirits, but if you are a novice level I wouldn't recommend.

  • Christopher Alexander

I've been to both the pleasant valley and airport locations. You can call in to ask if they have something and their staff is extremely responsive and helpful. They almost always have the rare liquor I'm looking for at a reasonable price and they also have all of the more common mainstays. I highly recommend this store and all of their other locations. Run, do not walk, to this place, you won't be disappointed.

  • Kevin Calman

They have a smaller selection of wines and liquors than Twin or Spec's, but for a neighborhood Mom & Pop shop, they have excellent choices. Their frequent in-store tastings are served by distillery reps, not booth babes, so you get meaningful input on the varieties. In addition, they have a great selection of antique bar-ware, mixers, cocktail accoutrements, and quality beers. I hope they live long and prosper!

  • Farzana Sedillo

While it may not be a bar, the people here (Kiki and David) always remember who you are when you come in. Always a great conversation, great selection of spirits and great time to be had here. Tastings are always top-notch and I learn something new every time. If you’re looking to be treated like family, wanting to learn and try something new, then Austin Shaker is the place for you!

  • Joseph Cardwell

Wasn't sure if I was cool enough to shop there, even though I was definitely not cool enough to shop there no one made it weird and they had a great price on my gut-rot whiskey so..... Great deal, great store, no-nonsense. ( Noticed they had a pretty cool selection of beers as well. ) Why wouldn't ya!?!? It's the closest store, but I'd probably drive a little extra to shop here. ;)

  • Jason Hinds

This little place was awesome. I will say it's a little over priced compared to the bigger "chain" stores but they were awesome. The lady that helped me actually knew about Bourbons as well as enjoyed drinking them which was great. Also, I told her the bottle was a "White Elephant Gift" and she got a bow and wrapped the bottle in a brown paper sack. It was pure awesome-ness!

  • Sam G

Not a ton to say here that is different than the rest. This place is great, from the selection to the service. You can tell the owners care and support local. If you live in the neighborhood you're doing yourself a disservice by patronizing any other shops. Especially Millpond Liquors down the street; place is a dump and prices are insane. Thanks Kiki & David!

  • Mackenzie Butler

Adam and Katie were so helpful! Very kind staff. Great little place. Super close to home for us too and the selection makes it worth it rather than going to the place around the corner. Decent prices and Adam was very helpful in helping me pick out a nice mezcal. Twice! I’ll come here as long as I live in the area thanks to Adam and Katie. See y’all soon!

  • Ashley Colville

Highly recommend. The people that work there are fabulous. Curated selection of alcohol with good options for barware. If you're looking for a specs or total wine experience this isn't the place for you. Austin Shaker is for those wanting the local Austin feel with the right mix of wine, beer, and spirits. 10/10 would go again

  • Simone Esquite

I’m From Anguilla in the Caribbean and I love going in there. The team are good people. Courteous entertaining and knowledgeable. Genuine people with the best selection of all things liquor related in town. Highly recommend. Especially if you want someone who knows what they are talking about and some advice on what to get.

  • Keller Kilpatrick

Absolutely incredible and knowledgable staff, worked tirelessly to help find us anything we’d like based on our tastes. Really awesome people that care about what they do, solid prices, rarer bourbons and they do allocates raffles at the end of the year. If I’m ever back in Austin I’ll be at the Austin shaker.

  • casachicon

Good selection. Limited parking. The owners are fantastic and always helpful. They are former bartenders so they are able to recommend good booze for good cocktails. And they have a well curated bar tool selection that will make even a casual cocktail mixer look like a pro. Pup friendly shopping allowed.

  • Cristobal Nevares

THE place to go if you're in the market for any harder to find liquors/liqueurs. David/Kiki and their staff will help you find whatever it is you're looking for! I'm not a big wine guy, but - as I understand it - they've really stepped up their wine selection, so definitely worth checking out all around!

  • Myles Barnett

This place is truly a bartenders dream. Every liqueur and Amaro your little heart could want and incredibly kind and knowledgeable staff to complete the package. Nick suggested a bottle of Nixta corn liqueur and it did not let me down. This place is 10/10 I can't wait to spend all of my money here

  • Jordan Zehr

Bar is set for other liquor stores due to this place, Kiki is the best, probably the most customer friendly and knowledgeable place to get your stuff. No frills, great pricing, and they do so much more than any other place. Thanks for making such a great local business have a special feel to it!

  • Bryce Ramsey

I called these people looking for 40oz beers. They don't exist. They found some bud ice 40's at another place nearby. The staff really did try hard and worked to get me what I needed even tho it's not to be had. I went in to get some liquor anyway and the staff was friendly and easy to talk to.

  • Mark Bartholome

The Austin Shaker has the best selection of hard to find liquors - Bourbon and Tequila. Even better is the staff, I have yet to ask a question that they didn’t know and out geek me on random nuances. Adam and Kate’s knowledge of Tequila and Mezcal, had us purchasing some new interesting finds!

  • Sager Goel

Drove in from Dallas for the weekend and realized we didn’t bring our booze. Walked into the store based on reviews on Google, and were not disappointed. Everyone was super nice, and I actually found the Fortaleza 2020 Winter Blend here!! Super stoked. Cool place. Nice people. Go here.

  • Andrew Barlow

This is truly the best liquor store in town. If alcohol is more to you than just a way to get hammered, this is the perfect place to visit for a remarkable selection and a unique set of barware options. Plus, the owners are the most knowledgeable proprietors you'll ever meet.

  • Matt

This place is such a gem. I was torn about which bottle of whiskey to purchase for a friend's birthday and Adam swooped in and proceeded to deliver a masterclass. Bonus points for his epic movie theatre announcer guy voice. 100% no better place to buy your booze in Austin.

  • John Duah

Great selection, the staff was laid back and informative, and the store was kept immaculate. Came by in a hurry for last minute items on a Friday night and it wasn't to too busy. Prices don't cause a double take which is always nice. Thanks y'all, this is my new local LS.

  • 최영근

  • King Bosca

For running my card twice, upsell me something next time. Eye really liKe this place, I purchased the cutest accessories for drinkers fortay...and sampled a new recipe. Believe it or not I kept the bottle too. This place is still fairly new but, definitely broken in.

  • K A

The people here are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely interested in helping you find what you're looking for. The Shaker is the ONLY place I buy liquor for these reasons. They honestly deserve more than 5 stars. Same applies for their other location.

  • Gregory Boyle

Awesome liquor store, great selection, and great customer service! Adam totally rocked with the suggestions and helped guide me to the most amazing rum and sotol! Also, found a bottle I didn’t except to see in the wild! Will be back for sure!

  • Mariposa Lopez

Adam helped me find the right gift. He was very knowledgeable about bourbon and Scotch, took his time listening to what I was looking for and searching out a good fit. It's great little shop and Adam is worth seeking out for a recommendation.
