I've been meaning to come here for ages and even with all the anticipation, this place did not disappoint. I don't usually think to make reservations for a pub but you should if you're visiting on the weekend and don't want to wait. The restaurant is in a cozy historic building and decorated with beer tap handles, portraits of the heads of monarchy, Cheshire cat decor and all sorts of British memorabilia. what a vibe. We ordered some classics: hot beef with a yorkie and mash and a fish and chips (sub onion rings to satisfy my craving). The portions here are generous! The fish and chips features pickerel and while it's not my preferred fish for this dish, it was still cooked very well. same for the onion rings. the real star is the hot beef and yorkie. thinly slices of hot beef that's tender served with an outstanding and beefy gravy. and pile of mashed potatoes, horseradish cream and yorkshire pudding to soak all that gravy up. even the charred vegetables taste great. So good that it's basically a guarantee that I'll get this dish every time I visit. also picked up a frozen sticky toffee pudding to take home. it comes in the large size which is a large tissue box sized container for $15. we baked it up at home and had it with ice cream and enjoyed the bittersweet caramel flavours.

I’ve been waiting ages to come here & I am so happy I finally made it. It’s definitely worth the hype. As someone with a gluten & dairy allergy, I was so happy to hear the amount of modifications & accommodations they could do for me. I felt like I could eat over half the menu. It made it so hard to choose ! I ended up getting the stuffed pork belly sandwich [the gluten free bun is so fluffy] and the chicken wings with fries. Everything was so delicious. I’m already eager to go back! EDIT: Went a second time this past Sunday with two friends. The wait for food was impressively long (55 minutes) & unfortunately, the sandwich buns (gluten free one & the smash burger one) came out pretty hard. In general, I’d say don’t get the smash burger. The friend who got it didn’t finish it, and the second friend tried it after thinking he was being picky and she also agreed it was not good. She got the roasted tomatoe soup and said it was worth the hype. I got the duck confit sandwich, it was alright, it was muccch sweeter than I’d prefer so I’d stick to the stuffed pork belly next time.

We had a wonderful date night at the Cheshire Cat Pub. It is like being transported to another (more relaxed) world. The quality of the beer on tap was incredible, I have not had this level of quality since I was in Germany. The food was quality was incredible especially the French fries with finely ground black pepper!! It seems like a small innovation but it elevated these fries to the best I think I've ever had. The charcuterie board was out of this world. The cheeses, pate and jam deserve honorable mention. Finally the battered fish was so different, Pickerel is not usual but it is definitely great! The staff was also incredibly friendly and nothing better than being offered samples constantly through our dining experience! The reputation of The Cheshire Cat was well earned and must be experienced first hand! We will be back!

My new favorite pub! Went there for team gathering. Was a little concerned with so few choices for dishes before going there. However, once I stepped in, instant love! The waitress has that open welcome charm. The decoration of the pub is just awesome. The food is GOOD! The meat is fine (my first time trying elk), but the vegi are fantastic! Every piece of the vegi in the plate is fresh and cooked perfectly to have individual taste and texture brought out amazingly. The portion is good/big. One of few pubs can actually fill me full with one dish. Lastly, this place is BUSY! Out at nowhere, but the pub is endlessly busy! Elderly, kids, lined up alllll the time! With this, you know you are at a right place! My new fav!

Updated review 2024, I originally gave 5 stars. Prior to this year my coworkers and I went on a weekly basis so I'm familiar with there menu which was always great. In the new year I went back and unfortunately was rather disappointed, there smash burger went from 2 patties to 1, and they replaced there gourmet onion rings, which I thought where the best in the city, with cheep beer battered ones you can get at any fast food joint, but kept the price the same. I'd rather they raise the prices than reduce the food quality, it was one of the last good restaurants, unfortunately it appears to be on the decline like all others.

We came for lunch on a whim during prime lunch hour on a weekend in summer... it was busy, to say the least. We were told it would be about a 40 minute wait when we got there but it was closer to 20. The server was very knowledgeable. They had their normal menu and pizza menu available. We opted for regular. The food was good, and came out quickly. Service was a bit slow at times, but more than forgivable give how busy that patio was. It was a nice touch to have Muskoka chairs available for those on the wait list (you could order drinks too). Overall, well worth a visit

Have been taken to this very nice place in Carp, just after arriving from Amsterdam and visiting Canada. First impression was a very beautiful pub, and the atmosphere was just great. All the staff was super friendly and making sure we were all okay. From the moment I stepped in, felt at home and taken good care of. Very laidback atmosphere and everyone was welcome just as you are. Hopefully will come back soon. Great food and drinks (Beers and Sangria were amazing)!!

Believe me when I say this food is next level pub food. It’s so amazing, if I could give it 10 stars out of 5 I would. Atmosphere is so fun, staff is wildly friendly, food is AMAZING!!!! I highly HIGHLY recommend eating here. I got the hot beef and yorkie, might be the best meal I’ve ever had. Also my brother got the fish and it was massive. 2 giant pieces of fish and fries, this is a great place to checkout.

The Chicken Bacon Pie at The Cheshire Cat is a savory delight, with a flaky crust complementing the rich and well-seasoned filling. The addition of bacon adds a smoky depth, and the creamy mash with gravy on the side enhances the overall experience. A must-try for those craving a comforting and flavorful meal.

Nice place for fish and chips and brews. Very popular but dining rooms are small and intimate. Oftentimes very difficult to get a table. Reservations are pretty much required.

This place is so cute, it was my first time here. I came on a Tuesday night and it was still a little busy, so I’d highly recommend getting reservations. The food was amazing, fish and chips was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. By far, one of the best pubs in ottawa, I’d highly recommend!

What an amazing spot! The atmosphere is top notch as the place has been made like a true English pub, and the food.. oh the food… makes you feel like you’re having a home cooked meal. I had the lamb and blue cheese pie and just fell in love with it. Well done Cheshire Cat Pub! More

Great beers and atmosphere. I wasn’t really fan with the food but the service was really friendly. Went there on Saturday night with 9 of us together, it took us 1.15 minutes to get a table. Overall it was a good experience

This is a well known spot and very popular, recommend reservations. Interior design is old school pub and there is a patio. Beer selection to suit all tastes. Menu covers all bases, ask about the weekly specials, for example the pub pie was

A proper English pub in Ottawa. It's is out of the way with nothing around it except industrial buildings. But this hidden gem is worth a visit. The restaurant itself is pretty unique with its design. The food offered, I would like to say

An incredibly friendly place to eat. They thrive on word of mouth recommendations and work hard to get them. We dined on a cool summer evening and the staff brought us blankets and citronella candles to make sure we were comfortable. Good
