I am sad to have to rate this place so low, but I am just so saddened by the disconnected and cold process that we experienced working with this business. Maybe it’s different for those who live in Washington and can be there in person, but living across the country proved to be a huge negative. Unfortunately, we live in a world that has become so detached and disconnected from human connection and true care. I only spoke to the funeral intern once or twice; after that, all the correspondence concerning my brother’s cremation was done via email! What makes me the most distraught is I thought we would receive a call when my brother’s body was going to be cremated—or certainly right after, to let us know it was done. We were expecting to wait 3 weeks as we were told that my brother was “in the cremation queue.” Well, it wasn’t weeks, and we didn’t get a call; what we got was an email THREE days AFTER his cremated remains were mailed to his mother, giving her the USPS tracking # and reminding her that she will have to sign for the package when it arrives at her doorstep! It really does not get any more impersonal and cold that! I know this business has stellar ratings, but our experience with human life was anything but and I would NOT recommend this place for people who live far away and cannot be there to take care of final disposition of their loved one’s body.

We received outstanding service from everyone at The Co-op Funeral Home of People's Memorial Association (PMA) when my mother passed away earlier in 2020. After notifying PMA of my Mother's passing, a very kind couple from PMA came, paid their respects, explained what they would do to transport Mom and, after we replied it was OK, they very gently and respectfully placed Mom in a privacy cover, used a lovely floral quilt over the cover and carefully transported her to the vehicle. The family was extremely impressed. We were also very impressed that PMA gave us a planning appointment the next workday. Mr Anthony Estrella was immensely helpful. He was able to schedule the cremation with id viewing to respect our mother's wishes to be undisturbed for 72 hrs. The staff at the Kent facility were very kind and helpful. Special gratitude to Kimberly Forsythe for helping post Mom's obit on the PMA website and special gratitude to Anthony Estrella for all his help with obtaining mom's death certificates and memorial cards. My husband and I are now members of PMA and I wholeheartedly recommend PMA to my friends and family.

We recently lost my uncle; fortunately, he had had the foresight to have joined the People's Memorial Association prior to his passing. This simple action made the process of dealing with his passing, pickup and cremation, and all the necessary paperwork, legal steps, and processes remarkably simple and painless to complete. The people were absolutely wonderful to deal with, and extremely helpful in selecting the right urn, applying for the additional death certificates, and obtaining a Veteran's Flag. They even shared that we could contact the Washington State Ferry System for assistance in placing his ashes into Puget Sound in an environmentally sound manner. I might add the cost was also very reasonable for the great service provided. The casting of the ashes into the Sound turned out to be an extraordinarily positive experience. While we remain saddened by his loss, we are so thankful to have had People's Memorial right there to help us through the process.

I just got off the phone with the director of The Co-op Funeral Home of Peoples Memorial and am extremely angry and disappointed with his attitude. My mother died yesterday and we made arrangements with the staff to have her cremated immediately. We were told that the process would continue since payment was coming from a local credit union even though the projected delivery date for the check would be 10 days from now. I called today to check on status and the first words out of the director's mouth were, "well, we're not going to be doing anything until we receive the check". I would have given them a credit card number had they told me yesterday. I find this extremely impersonal and insensitive considering the business they're in.

I have ended up being completely disenchanted with many funeral homes for their predatory pricing practices, and massive "upselling." I worked at one for three years where they did that. Researching alternatives, I found People's Memorial Association, and they turned out to be the exact opposite - when my parents died both of them were cremated through arrangements by People's Memorial. It was the lowest cost alternative, no pressure at all and exactly what my parents requested. I have been a longtime advocate of People's Memorial, since I live in Washington, and of the Funeral Consumers Alliance which People's Memorial has affiliated with. They are they best resource for end of life arrangements.

My husband passed away at UW Medical Center. People's Memorial was contacted by UW and within an hour Bailey, from People's, called me. She was compassionate and kind. She was very knowledgeable in all of the services provided. Bailey provided useful information before I had to ask. And answered my repeated questions with patience. The entire "ordeal" was taken care of with little to do on my part. If I wasn't sure of an answer or a choice, Bailey was reassuring that nothing had to happen immediately. The follow up provided by People's was appreciated. I recommend People's Memorial to everyone.

I had the unfortunate circumstance of burying two close family members a few months apart earlier this year. The Co-op Funeral Home was with me every step of the way both times, displaying a quiet compassion and great communication. People's Memorial have also been huge supporters and key backers of SB 5001, which permits recomposition and aquamation burials. If my family members had these options available they would have opted for them, so I truly appreciate this advocacy work. Support a non-profit and *be supported* by them during such tough times!

I can't thank Chris enough and the team from First Call for the exceptional handling of my late husband's remains. What we got was a very personalized service. There was no upsell of any kind . The simplicity of the cremation with viewing services made the whole process of sending off a love one more comforting. I would highly recommend them. Paperwork and customer service post cremation is great! Thank you again Chris and Chris(First Call for) for doing a great job!

My sisters and I had the sad privilege of taking care of our oldest sister after she passed away in October. She was already a member of People's Memorial, so it wasn't difficult to choose a place to take care of her remains. The young man we dealt with was kind, gracious, and professional. He was willing to go the extra mile and expedite the getting of her remains to us in time for her memorial service. Our dealings with P.M. were very positive! Thank you!

Very satisfied with The Co-Op Funeral Home of People's Memorial. We felt very cared for during this very sad time. They made it as easy as possible and had all of the painful details figured out. They were good at explaining the process and helpful when we had questions. I would highly recommend their services. Also, the ashes were given to us in a lovely box - I wasn't sure how that worked & it all felt very special and as important as it should be.

My parents were members for decades. People's Memorial helped so much when my father passed away that my husband and I joined. More recently they were again a huge help when my mother passed. Both times they picked up my parents' bodies very respectfully. The office staff also talked me through everything and assisted with paperwork. I also like that they do so much advocacy and education work. I highly recommend joining!

Great care was taken and the utmost respect given to my client who passed away. Christopher was kind, patient and such a calming force during what can be a difficult and stressful time. He asked questions, gave helpful suggestions, and truly listened to what my client had specified for his time of need wishes. I will not hesitate to recommend People's Memorial to anyone in need of these services.

In 2010 these wonderful honoring people provided clear and kind support. A man came in the greatest of respect and in a very unhurried and gracious manner explained then collected my sisters body into a handmade quilt , then gently zipped it all into a bag which we carried out together. Also they kept her body in a cool room for the necessary 72 hours before cremating, I cannot imagine better.

Warmth, Compassion and understanding are the hallmarks of Co-0p Funeral Home. Everything was handled with ease and efficiency. Pricing was very reasonable. I could not be more pleased with the care and consideration I received at a very difficult time. My wishes were perfectly honored timely and with great care. Could NOT ask for better & give my highest recommendation.

My family was very satisfied with the prompt, respectful, and professional service and communication from People’s Memorial. The courier who transported our mothers body made all the difference in our experience: she was WONDERFUL: very compassionate, respectful to our mother’s body and to my grieving. I am so thankful to Rose!"

Dealing with the unexpected loss of my husband was very hard but the experience with getting cremation done was so easy that it reduced my stress level and allowed me to focus on all of the other things that needed to be taken care of. I signed up to be a member too so my daughters will have less to deal with when I die. - Jenny

Sadly I have had to use the services of Peoples Memorial twice in the last year. First my husband and then my son. Without the wonderful people at peoples memorial I am not sure how I would have handled all the details. There were KIND and very helpful. I hope I never have to use them again but I would recommend them to anyone!

  • Janet Mandell

Simply put, the Co-op Funeral Home services made everything easy and uncomplicated, at a time when I desperately needed exactly that. I cannot say enough about the gentle and unobtrusive assistance they provided when my husband died. I'm a member now too, because I want my daughter to have the same support for my passing.

I had a quick question, but knowing that funeral directors are under intense pressure these days, was hesitant to bother them. My question was answered quickly, and professionally, and I was treated like they had all the time in the world. Even with the stress they're under, People's Memorial are great to work with.

The Co-op Funeral Home's service was wonderful from start to finish. They were very helpful with facilitating green burials for my parents, and my siblings and I were especially appreciative of the sensitive comportment of the person who picked up our father's body. He was very kind and respectful.

  • Joel Paget

I have used the services of People's Memorial twice for clients who have passed away and I was their attorney and only person to care for them. People's Memorial made the whole process effortless and very cost efficient. That is exactly what my clients desired and I appreciated. Thanks.

  • Jen Creighton

People's Memoria took care of both my mother and father after their passing. The staff is kind, compassionate, respectful, and quite frankly, very affordable for any income. I would HIGHLY recommend them for all funeral and crematory services that they offer.

So helpful every step of the way. I've worked with them for two family members and they are so easy to work with - very thoughtful and caring. And being a member you get lots of helpful information and content to help before death as well.

People's Memorial gave us efficient and tactful help both before and after my husband's death last Jan. I appreciate the simplicity that comes from pre planning and also the reasonable prices and clear communication.

At the very worst moment of my life I found all the staff at The Co-op Funeral Home of People's Memorial to be caring, compassionate and so very easy to work with both at the funeral home and the crematory.

Kind and helpful after my mother died. I depended on the Checklist the Co-op Funeral Home provided me so I knew who to contact and what accounts to address. Thank you People's Memorial!
