After today, I will NEVER spend another dime at this establishment. That being said, I had the unfortunate experience of being waited on by a dark-haired barista by the name of Aneesa, the Albanian woman (not sure if that is the correct spelling or not). After this unfortunate experience, I felt that this issue needed to be addressed with someone above her. I then decided to go back and ask who the manager was so that I could speak with them to which she replied that she was the manager. I then proceeded to ask who the owner was and she asked if she wanted me for her to be the owner to which I said no. I then asked when the owner will be back and she said at 7:30. I went back to the the cafe at 7:30 sharp and the owner wasn’t there. I asked where the owner was and she said he wasn’t there yet but that I could have a seat. I waited for around 30 minutes before I decided to get up and leave due to growing tired of waiting. I would give this place 0 stars if I could but I can’t. I’ve dealt with this woman and her nasty attitude several times before, but after today, this is the last time they get a dime from me.

I was very excited about this place when Google Explore suggested it. My main issue is with customer service. While the employees strive to offer professional and friendly service, the owner can be disrespectful at times. I feel like the owner doesn’t take seriously certain types of customers, even though I ALWAYS tip according to the amount of money I spend. I aim to support local businesses, but I find that the drawback to smaller mom and pops shops is that they can be inconsistent either in quality of products, logistics, and/or service. When something happens, there are no proper channels to address issues, as opposed to a corporate chain where they often have a 1-800 number available for customers. Although the coffee does taste good, the lack of consistency in customer service bothers me. I have a demanding job in IT. When I go to a coffee shop I want to leave relaxed not pissed off because of poor service, especially when provided by the owner. I’ve been coming here almost daily for 2 months, but I won’t be back. I am disappointed.

After wanting to visit the Coffee Grinder for some time, I stopped by with my wife for a quick late afternoon post-movie drink and snack. It's a laid back, throwback vibe-especially in terms of prices. I had a large cappuccino, my wife had a cafe breve, and we split a piece of tiramisu- all for just over $10. A large cappuccino or latte for $3.25? A large cup of coffee for $1.40? I paid more for a large coffee at Buc-ee's last month. Aside from the drinks being absolute deals, my cappuccino was quite tasty. Not the best I've ever had, but it was strong and hit the spot. The tiramisu was creamy on the top and full of coffee flavor (the ladyfingers were on the soggy side, but so it goes). The service was fast and friendly and there is ample seating inside and outside. If we didn't have a toddler, we'd totally take advantage of their late night hours. Maybe one day... I definitely plan to visit the Coffee Grinder again. If you're in the mood for a coffee at a chill local spot, give them a shot!

I love the Coffee Grinder! -Atmosphere- The atmosphere's always pretty sublime, pretty much what you'd want from a small coffee shop. Sometimes the music gets to be a little much, but it's quiet enough that you can just ignore it. Slava, the owner, is a really nice guy. I haven't interacted much with the other employees, but out of all of the interactions none of them have been negative. -Coffee/Food- The food and coffee are really good as well- they have a decent selection of different coffees which they hand-make in front of you, as well as some other interesting drinks (e.g foreign sodas) and some delicious deserts. I'm partial to the cheese danish, but everything looks delicious. Honestly, these are the two main things I look for in a coffee shop. Nothing's ludicrously priced, either, so because of all of that I'd give it a solid 5 stars.

It's probably good that this place on the other side of town from where I live or else I'd probably be living there at the coffee grinder lol. I love this little spot. It's cozy and they have pretty cheap coffee. I usually get a large cafe au lait for $2 and a slice of tiramisu cake. The tiramisu is to die for. I wouldn't say it's the quietest place for studying but there have been a couple of times it was pretty quiet so you do get lucky sometimes. This is honestly my most favorite coffee shop to go to cause I feel like I'm paying honest prices and getting quality foods. And at least here I'm not spending $7 just for one coffee. They also sell cakes and other pastries but I'm just hooked on the tiramisu xD. It's kinda small, different atmosphere than most other coffee shops and but definitely worth checking out. ☺️

This entire section of the strip mall in Deerwood seems to represent an enclave of European-owned establishments, and the vibe over at The Coffee Grinder will be very familiar if you've lived in or traveled The Continent. It smacks a bit of the cafe common areas attached to the hostels over there. You'll notice a very loyal set of regulars who frequent the place regularly, if not daily, and the prices, compared with many other independent coffee houses around Jax, are quite fair. Their baked goods, such as their cakes, are fresh and seem to be homemade made from scratch -both their Focaccia and Cuban sandwich offerings are similarly tasty! Perhaps what's best about this cafe, however, is that, unlike Starbucks, it is actually OPEN!

Coffee Grinder is an amazing coffee spot, nestled in the corner of a busy shopping center on one of the busiest roads in Jacksonville. I used to be a loyal customer to Starbucks coffee with their overwhelming menu, almost robot like customer service and tendency to forget a shot or two of espresso in my drinks. Until, I stumbled upon Coffee Grinder with a co-worker. My first visit I walked in and was greeted by a very authentic European atmosphere from the awesome Barista to the DJ selected soundtrack and the pictures on the wall. The coffee here is extremely rich and strong and the desserts are most excellent. There is outside and inside seating and it's open until 1 a.m.! what more can you ask for. Highly recommended!

  • Camille Renshaw

First off, I'm big on customer service! I was so very happy to see that tiramisu was sold so close to where I live. When I walked in, I was not greeted while being the only person in line. After about a minute, the lady said "are you ready?" I said hello to her and then placed my order. She handed me the box as I was requesting utensils. She said to me (sigh) "why do you want me to give you a fork or spoon, you can get it yourself." These utensils are on a high counter, in glass containers with candy bars stacked in front of them. I told her nevermind and politely walked out. Be careful where you spend your money!

When you walk in, the building has an older feel but is quite welcoming! The barista was very friendly and helpful when helping me decide what to order (a mocha). I'm not sure what size I ended up getting, but the smalls are $3 and the larges are $3.25... I was surprised by the low price, but then understood when my order rang up as $4.01 haha. The coffee itself is good, but is somewhat thin and the mocha left a strange taste in my mouth (but not bad lol). The atmosphere is probably what would bring me back! Plenty of clean seating, lots of international souvenirs and even some European chocolate (like Kinder and Milka), poppy music, and a balanced amount of lighting which is necessary for good coffee pics

As I was sitting down, the worker was on her phone, speaking very loudly and cursing about inappropriate topics that are not for public hearing. The girl was sitting by the counter right behind me and proceeded to say racial slurs like the N word on the phone. The entire coffee shop could hear her. Once I can handle but she kept blurting the N word repeatedly, very loudly at that, as if she had no self-awareness of her volume. As an African-American i felt uncomfortable and left the establishment. Please consider what you are saying in public and be aware of your volume, especially as an employee. I’m sure the other workers are great, but this lady seemed unprofessional to say the least.

Locally owned spot in front of the IGA and to the right (looking south) of the Publix on Baymeadows and Southside. They have homemade cakes by the slice, Danish, cuban sandwichs and other fresh snacks. And of course fresh coffee, expresso, latte and juice. If you drink it there, it is served in a nice glass expresso cup on a dish like it should be and not in a plastic or paper cup, unless you want it to go. The owner is super friendly and accommodating and the patio always has a few groups of friendly people if you are looking for conversation.

SO. MUCH. CIGARETTE SMOKE. Seriously, I came in to order a latte and read, had to leave in less than 10 minutes because the fumes were SO bad. People sit at the Cafe tables and smoke, the tables are really close to both doors so every time someone enters or leaves, a CLOUD of cigarette smoke enters inside the Cafe. Was really disappointed because this place is open late so it seemed great for evening - late night study. Actual drink was great.

Coffee Grinders is my absolute favorite coffee destination, and even though I live close to the airport, I find myself making the trip just to savor their exceptional brews, even as late as 12 midnight. Without a doubt, they offer the best coffee I have come across in the past two decades, all at remarkably affordable prices. The consistent quality and rich flavors make Coffee Grinders a true haven for coffee enthusiasts like myself, ensuring that every visit is a delightful experience worth cherishing.

Such a hidden gem of a coffee shop! The decor is chic, beautiful Florida artwork, and the music was upbeat. There was a television, so definitely a possibility for watching events. I had a great Cuban coffee and was able to get lots of work done. They have several areas where you can plug in your computer, as well as comfy chairs and couches. I like working at a table, so was happy for that option. Indoor and outdoor seating. Some bakery goods, snacks, sodas, teas, and other beverages are available for those who do not drink coffee or chai.

This is a great place if you're looking for coffee that isn't Starbuck's or Dunkin Donuts (don't get me wrong, I drink those occasionally too but if I lived closer to The Coffee Grinder, would never). Its has a nice atmosphere & good vibes. Smells wonderful (if you live the smell of coffee, and I do). I will definitely be back & next time want to try a pastry with my beverage. The service was great & there's coffee, tea, & wine & more (with music). Hot coffee was served in a real coffee mug, which adds a nice touch. Definitely recommended.

  • Courtney Macer

I'm from out of town and ordered a mocha to go. The atmosphere seemed nice, and the prices were reasonable! However, I had a couple major problems with the drink. First, it was far too hot, maybe because the to-go cup was styrofoam. Also, the consistency was also a little off from what I usually expect from a latte; it was somewhat thin, and there was a little powder (chocolate? coffee?) floating in the drink. I was surprised because of all the other good reviews. I might try to order something different if I pass through again!

  • Becks Kitty

My whole family absolutely lives this coffee shop. The owner is friendly and accommodating. The coffee beans are varied and high quality (and are available to buy by weight, whole or ground to your preference.) The espresso is equally wonderful. I've never had a burnt or ruined drink or problem there ever. Perfection every time! And they have tons of flavored syrup choices too! I also like that there is original art on the walls by smalltime artists which you can buy. Plus the hours are great, they don't close till like 2am!

  • Jacey Bella

Such a cute little place! Open nice and late all days of the week, it's my go-to as someone that isn't fond of clubbing. The music, the vibe, the people. It's all so friendly and cozy. It's been busy every night I've come, and it has good reason! I normally drink coffee with a lot of sugar, but I take these cappuccinos and mochas as is; the milk is enough. Also the Tiramisu! Oh goodness it's so good. Along with the other sweets. A lovely hang out for most hours. I like to come down and relax and do needlework.

  • Brooklyn

The coffee, vibe, and pastry were soo good, the only thing I didn’t like was the only employee was on the speaker phone the entire time laughing and being louder than everyone in the place. After I ordered my coffee I asked for a mug, and she said she didn’t understand what that was, even though after she was serving everyone after me with a mug… not a big deal but kind a bummer service.

Honestly, the best place ever. Great coffee, prices you couldn’t beat if you tried, the best and the most friendly staff. The owner is wonderful, always happy and kind and takes his time to talk to and get to know the customers- truly an absolute pleasure to be around. They offer a personal touch that you simply can’t find anywhere else. I’ve been coming here for years and I have never ever had anything short of an amazing experience. -Wide range of coffee blends -Beer and wine -Food and deserts

Whoever the lady at the cash register was does not have friendly customer service knowledge. The tables were dirty and the lady does not know how to make any good coffee. We asked her if she had any military discount and she gave us a disgusted look. Like she hasn't heard that other businesses give military discounts. As you can see by the photos, the mix from the white mocha is all over the bottom of the cup. It doesn't even taste like she put any coffee.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this hidden gem in Jax, and I am thrilled to report that it boasts both the best quality and the most affordable coffee in town! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that immediately made me feel right at home.

I've been working down the street from here for 3 years and I wish I had given it a try sooner. The atmosphere is very friendly and cozy and I got one of the best lattes I've ever had. The espresso is so flavorful and prices are very reasonable - they even offer almond milk which is great. I've been a die hard dunkin fan for a long time but I don't think I will be going there as much now that I've found The Coffee Grinder.

  • Meira B

I visited from out-of-state tonight. It was my first time visiting this coffee house. The old guy making the drinks was extremely grumpy. The cafe is run down and standards are surprising low for this establishment to have the number of stars given by others. The drink I got(chai tea latte) was basic-not flavorful. Also people were smoking at the tables outside. Nobody wants to inhale your secondhand, toxic cigarette smoke.

  • Rossinni Bordin

Super cozy place. A nice dude making coffee, quite good cakes and unfortunately it was all I had, but I am definitely returning to try more food. If you are planning to go, get a coffee and enjoy a nice time in one of their sofas.

I have been coming to this place for more than 17 years and the coffee has been always excellent, is an excellent place to talk and study or even for a date. The service is very good and their cakes are also very good. You will hear many languages and see full diversity of happy people. I love this place. Disclaimer... people smoke outside so be aware, do not complain because smokers are next to you just go inside.

  • David A. Rambo

Really love there is a place with cool vibes , ability to lounge with good coffee open later than 8 pm on fri/Saturday. Website says open til 1:30 which is great. My wife and I can't do alcohol for health reasons so this spot is on our list to lounge or finish off a nice date night. Only reason I didn't give it a five star is because we have some dietary restrictions and most menu options are dairy and wheat based.

  • Molly Youngblood

Had a great experience at the Coffee Grinder. It's a quaint coffee shop with a very relaxing environment and a great place to grab a coffee. What I really liked about it was the atmosphere. They had indoor and outdoor seating, chairs, tables, couches and was very cozy. Plus if you get hungry they have a nice selection of cakes and sandwiches for a quick bite to eat. Definitely suggest recommend stopping by.

Found this shop by accident one day while visiting family in Jax. Great place with friendly staff and maybe the best price point for coffee around. I visited Jax 4 times this year (and it’s only March) and always make at least one stop, usually 2! Just found out about the evening entertainment so planning to try that soon.

One of the best coffee shops I've been to. Coffee is consistently good....the tiramisu is lovely...the employees are very friendly. The owner is an awesome guy. He takes the time to talk to customers, and makes u feel like family. And, he usually gives my 5yr old daughter a free treat. Nice place to hang out. And, one of the few places in the whole city, that isn't a bar or club, that is open late.

I had a great time hanging out with my husband. We had awesome customer service! Are server was very kind and very knowledgeable when it came to coffee and even talked us into getting 2 pieces of chocolate cake which was very delicious. The restaurant was very clean everything seem to be in order and we had a great time hanging out at the coffee shop and plan on doing it again.

Really cool, relaxing place for coffee and dessert. The Tiramisu by itself is so worth coming here for. The staff is very friendly and makes really good coffee :) Only been here in the morning time and it's been fairly quiet and relaxing. Decent amount of people, not crowded but not dead. Just a chill vibe, sit down, relax and enjoy your order. Go get the Tiramisu!

Very nice cafe. I only have one idea for the owners ... to have the decor inside changed a bit. For beautiful paintings that are complex will need light shades, light furniture and blinds or light curtains. It will turn out great;) Caribbean-bohemian style ... boho. Also outside - tables and chairs in light and new paint on the walls and beauty :)

I went to the Coffee Grinder because of its stellar reviews and I needed a place to study. I didn't expect much from a hole-in-the-wall but wow I was wrong. The service was pleasant, the music was catchy and the drinks were affordable. The coffee is served in real mugs which is a nice touch. I will definitely be back

One of my new favorite places in town, wish it was closer to where I live but I'll definitely be making this one of my regular go-to places. Very friendly environment. You'll run across people from many different backgrounds and everyone is very sociable. Place is always clean. Espresso and chai drinks are the best.

  • Justin Smith

Best coffee shop in town, plenty of space so it's relatively quiet even when it's busy. But the coffee is why it's the best. I drive 20 minutes out of my way to go here when I have work to do just because the coffee. There's 3 Starbucks closer to me. If you like coffee, you have to try this place. Highly recommend

There is not enough space here to write a complete review. In a nutshell: a neighbourhood hangout with great coffee, cakes, wine and beer. Live dj performances every night. A massive expat crowd and an amazing ambiance. The place has great art hanging on the walls and the parking is free. More reviews to come..

Love this place! Great coffees teas, deserts and sandwiches. Cool atmosphere to hang out with the friends, prices are very reasonable. Lastly cant say enough about the staff....they are always at the top of there game and will do everything in there power to see you enjoy your experience here!! A MUST SEE!!!

  • Jo Sil

As a former Starbucks employee I definitely enjoy a good cup of coffee…. This was definitely not it! The price for a large coffee was great($1.50), but it was barely warm. I literally drove past 10 different gas stations brands where I have had a better cup of coffee on my way to this place. Never again!

  • Patricia Humphrey

I was pleasantly surprised upon walking in how authentic the vibes were. The service was so friendly, the coffee full bodied and flavorful. However the cheese danish is what truly inspired me to write this review, it’s perfectly sweet, buttery and flaky. Best I’ve ever had. Definitely will be coming back

I love the small town, European atmospgere of this place. I study and hang out here. The prices are reasonable. The drinks and deserts are phenomenal. You really can't go wrong with a great late night/day time hang out spot like this one. The same people work there to make magic with your drinks.

This place is not inviting at night, the iced coffee was terrible and the atmosphere has like a pub atmosphere not the coffee shop vibe. They also need to get better seating and up their charm. Not to mention the man taking my order was rude.

Nice spot with outdoor seating at spaced out tables with outdoor music. Delicious coffees and baked goods. A little fountain near the coffee shop is also an option to enjoy. Diverse customer base makes it an interesting spot.

Best place for coffee in the neighborhood, way better than Starbucks, cheaper prices better seating, more parking.

First visit, tried the americano and frozen white choc freeze. Both very good. Need more than 1 staff worker on busy Sunday though! Very nice vibes inside the store could use a clean up, on the ceiling above the counter.

Are you kidding me!? $1.90 for a GREAT double espresso and a $1.40 for a large coffee. Nice vibe, indoor- outdoor tables. Great service, go another 100ft behind Dunkin! And support a small business, use cash! …

The worst place you could ever visit, very loudly not suitable for study, the old man there is very racism with attitude. Never visit again

Coffee grinder is a hidden hole in the wall coffee shop. It has a eastern European feel and ambience. Fantastic expresso and coffee selection. Love the tiramisu. Reasonable price, open late with outdoor seating

  • Punky

Delicious coffee with a very nice enviroment, definetly recommend. I tried the mocha and a chai latte and its perfect. Before you go to your typical famous coffee shop, come here, you wont regret it.

Great pop in coffee spot with great ambiance. Super affordable. Only one employee working but she did a great job in serving everybody. Highly recommend and will go back again in the future.

Great atmosphere! The barista could gas we been a little more friendly, but it's all good. Had a DJ outside, not too loud, just right to have conversations. :) Definitely will be going back.

Coffee Grinder is a great private coffee shop. Prices are like 1/2-1/3 of Starbucks. Not quite as full service, but rad casual environment reminiscent of an Eastern European joint.

Amazing coffee!!! I got an iced latte and blueberry muffin, both were delicious. The barista was very friendly as well! Visited afternoon 5/11/23

Great place for highly caffeinated coffee. Late hours makes this place a great opportunity for a late quick stop. Artists and musicians alike would appreciate this coffeehouse.

Really great coffee, & cozy seating. Tried the Cuban sandwich, was pretty good. Just wish it had the shredded pork. The chair latte is a little on the sweet side.

  • ilona zak

They have the best coffee we’ve tried in a long time! Also great other drinks (milk shakes were kid’s favorites) and friendly atmosphere with amazing wall art!
