If you’ve been out in Moseley, it’s highly likely you’ve been to the iconic Cuban Embassy (Bulls Head). It is the oldest pub in the village dating back to the 1700s. Now it’s a little slice of Havana serving up rum based cocktails and live cuban music each weekend We went on Saturday afternoon for bottomless brunch (2hrs). Choose bottomless Prosecco or Cuba Libres, two small plates and a side for £35 per person. We ordered: Iberian Burger Cod and Pepper Croquettes Spanish Chorizo Garlic Chicken Thighs Sweet Potato Fries Garlic Flatbread with cheese The food is provided by Santi’s Kitchen and we loved every bite The garlic chicken thighs were sensational. We were mopping up every last ounce of the sauce with the garlic flatbread; we nearly wore a hole into the plate The cod and pepper croquettes were generously filled with fish, rather than filled out with potato. They were delicately seasoned so the fish could shine and we wanted a bucket full. The burger looked pretty basic, but then we took a bite…the Manchego was nutty and slightly sweet, perfectly complimenting the salty Serrano ham. It tasted homemade and authentic. It was quiet during our visit, so even though I hate the phrase because people are saying it about everything, I’m going to say it…the venue might be well known, but the brunch is a hidden gem It was fantastic for us too as Cuba Libres are a much more appealing option than sugary cocktails. They were also super accommodating and let my mum have vodka instead of rum ☺️ it’s the little touches. We were having such a lovely time we stayed for a few extra hours and enjoyed some banana daiquiris

As of tonight (Wed 27th March) the bar is now open again after a refit. Space is much improved as the bar is now repositioned along a side wall and no longer creating a jam in front of the entrance. I've uploaded pictures of new bar, which has a faded Cuban hotel feel, as does the redecorated bar and live music space upstairs. Same friendly staff, same Latin vibe, same cool drinks but better looking bar. This bar offers something different for the jaded pub go-er especially at the weekend. They have done a good job creating an exciting atmosphere that is part Boho Moseley and part Cuban. A massive choice of rum (120 I think), plenty of tropical cocktails and a live band playing from 10pm upstairs at the weekend all adds to the Latin American feel. Staff are smart in black downstairs and tropical shirts upstairs. During the week days there is food here at certain times and a musician also playing downstairs. Had a very good night here last night. The crowd is an eclectic mix of people from all over (I noticed quite a lot of different languages) all ages (although our group probably doubled the average age in the room!). Any age group is going to feel welcome here. The condition of the bar isn't pristine (that's part of the Cuban feel perhaps?) and yes they serve a lot of cocktails and it all takes time. My advice is get friendly with the bar staff, get your orders in early and then get in to the Caribbean mood. If you're still stressed, go upstairs and dance. Where else in Moseley can you dance to a live band playing Latin and reggae music? You can honestly forget where you are here!

Very good selection of cocktails. they have singer Monday to Saturday.. beautiful songs been played. very cosy and warm place to be in. staff is very very good and friendly. However according to me they lack in for taste. We had afternoon tea on groupon but sweetcorn fritters was not what we thought.. it's just little pancakes and sweetcorn on top. chicken wings too sweet. As being vegetarian I had tomato and red pepper soup.. but again there was lack in taste and too much sour.. No salt in any of the food. I do not eat too much salt but none of the food had salt. However I think this place has lot of potential and if they can add taste in food then this will be a mind blowing place to be in.. Having said that.. all above is my personal thoughts.. this might vary according to people.. May be being indian I might like little spicy food .. Over all.. best place for music cocktails and chilling with friends and family.. .I will come back again..

4 of us went to the Cuban recently on a Saturday afternoon. The mojito's we ordered at £8.95 each were undrinkable. It would seem that the soda used had ran out of gas and they were absolutely flat as a pancake. Really unpleasant. Neat booze topped with water. Reluctantly I advised the manager very politely to be met with the response of 'well you can't have the money back' and I said I wasn't expecting a refund but we would like to exchange them if possible. I returned to our table and waited patiently for her to come over as there was a birthday party on another table but after half an hour it became apparent that she wasn't remotely interested so we left leaving the drinks behind. Appalling drinks. Even worse customer service. A real shame as I've lived in Moseley for 20 years and have previously had a really pleasant experience in the bullshead/cuban embassy. None of us will be returning any time soon.

If you fancy some Cuban / Latin / Reggae vibes along with your drinks and don't mind not being in - or travelling outside - the city centre, this is a great little Brummie venue. Fabulous atmosphere and a outrageously fantastic resident band. Food was also very tasty, albeit from a limited menu and drinks good value. Service was good. Slight downsides for me: start times (for music) beared no resemblance to what I saw advertised and if you have to sit down while waiting or in between dancing, get there early because upstairs there is less seating than if you took an SUV out for a test drive. Would that put me off though? No way! I'll definitely be back, as this place is cooler than a very cool thing deep in the best fridge going.

  • Male_Kat

I went to this place because friends told me that it was a good place to go if you want to enjoy Latin american music, but that was not my experience. I went to this place hoping to listen the music from my side of the world... salsa, merengue, reggae; yes it was the lyric of the songs but not the rhythm and for us (latinos) the rhythm is what make us dance. You can't change a salsa song to techno or R&B rhythm, just to get the english guest... it's not fair that we went there, spend our money and every single song was change just to make enjoyable for others. It's our culture, you have a name that represent latins, we are hoping to have a little part of our culture in the other side of the world.

Went there on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. The live music was great and I really got into the vibe. Some very nice rum punch slushies which went down a treat. The bar upstairs by the music is a bit of a joke though. My girlfriend was at the bar for a while before being served, where people that had got to the bar after her were being served before. The staff up there didn't seem that friendly either. There was a few other bad points which are more personal to me with 2 other patrons visiting the bar, but I wouldn't hold these against the bar itself. I enjoyed the night with my friends but I'm not sure if it's a place I'll be visiting again, at least not the bar upstairs.

What can I say...wow! The BA-HA vegan Cuban menu by Frankie Heekin is incredible...! I had to get a picture of her too! Probably the best vegan tacos I have tasted and the padron peppers were authentically delicious...! The vegan lemon cheesecake had a great fluffy texture and was not too sweet. Absolutely perfect. This place is a MUST visit for foodies Birmingham just like their menu at the Rainbow. I will be back...!!

The food here is pretty good and the live music has been great when I’ve had the chance to see it. Unfortunately, at nighttime this place is a different story. I’m not really a fan mainly because I’ve had several issues with bouncers being unnecessarily overbearing and intense with people on the door and doing not much else with the people already inside. Personally, I think they should focus more on monitoring people on the inside and it might be a more enjoyable place to be in.

  • Kheiron Howard

We went here because we were sick of the Chav like pubs and clubs full with 20 year olds. The average age of this pub is older than most. We expected a little bit more of a 'grown up' feel to the place... Everyone in there was 30+, way too drunk, bashing into one another and being rude. Genuinely, I have had less trouble and a better time in a bar with the average age of about 20. Which is a shame because the club its self is excellent... apart from being a little too small.

This is a follow up review. Last year October 2021 I visited and had a great bottomless brunch with lovely food. Unfortunately visited again this month and food was a sandwich. Not a proper brunch. Also staff weren't keen on refills. Over priced for a bottomless sandwich. Previously we had paella and complimentary chorros but all the choice has been removed. Suggest maybe have a few drinks but bottomless brunch is an expensive disappointment now which is a real shame.

  • Deepti Shinh

The pinacolda is fantastic. One of the best I have had. Tried all the tapas dishes and some of them were really good. The only let down was the 30min wait for the table even ager booking and I didn't appreciate the fact that my friend booked and payed a deposit of £20 for 4 but didn't get it back and got '' free'' 4 drinks but with limitations on what drinks which was forcing us to get 4 drinks instead of getting our deposit back or taking it off the food bill.

  • Cara Ellis

The atmosphere is good. Live music on the night, so it's good if you like that kind of thing. Drinks a fairly over priced, my friend paid £11.50 for a double gin and lemonade! My other friend had a long wait for her cocktails, and this was on a quiet Thursday night, so I feel she had no chance if it happened to be a Saturday. It is my first time here and I would like to give it another go, as I said, I liked the general atmosphere

  • Helen Purcell

I visited with my family, early evening on a Friday. The food was mediocre. Tortilla chips straight out of a packet and despite advising them that I was waiting for my food and them insisting it was on it's way, it never came. They gave me a refund but no food. We had to return the beer, Coast to Coast, as it tasted stale; the barman informed us that's how it always tasted! The pub was understaffed too. Disappointing

  • Francesca Berlen

Really unusual and imaginative food, super tasty and filling! Great range of cocktails too! Staff were super friendly but the food took a little while and arrived in dribs and drabs (Friday night).

Asked for a double vodka, and got served coke only. Went back to the bar and was treated like I was a liar. On my way out the over dramatic bar girl was slagging me off to the manager. When I said that's me your talking about both thier face's dropped. The manger was so unprofessional it was beyond a joke. I got the feeling this is not the frist time they have done this. Alway check your drinks.

  • Valeria Cirolli

Great experience this evening.. Me and my partner came for just a drink but we ended up having some food, we took some tapas, really good and tasty, we really enjoyed the beef and onions. I also loved the nachos, not the usual already made ones. Compliment to the chef! Also a great selection of quality rums. Great cocktails and good service. We will be back again to try the paella

Great food from the BaHa kitchen, sadly the kitchen is closing. Would still recommend you get some good rum, and get some good BaHa wherever they end up next.

Great little venue in Moseley for live music upstairs with a bar and restaurant downstairs. Before lockdown this was one of my most visited venues as they always have some fabulous acts on and the support is always top notch too. The only thing I need to do is make a point to go there when I'm not driving so I can sample a couple of the many rums they have on offer

  • Yardie K

I visited this establishment on Friday with friends and want to the top floor to watch a live band and boy were they bloody brilliant. The atmosphere and the Latin music had everyone truly enjoying themselves to the max. The drinks prices are reasonable, staff friendly and door security will search you. I had a fab time and highly recommend a visit.

  • Kerrie Redfern

Not a large menu but the food was very reasonably priced, very different and really nice. A bit like street food. Drinks where the only thing that stopped me giving it a 5. As buying 2 rums at £24 was expensive considering ya could get the same rum over the road in Wetherspoons for a fraction of the price. Sorry couldn't give 5 stars knowing this!

  • Matt Winkless

Since it's refurbishment, it's now a nice place to visit. The house band are great, the cocktails good, the beer selection so so. Some of the seating isn't exactly the most comfortable in the world, but it has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Like anywhere in Moseley, the crowd varies massively depending on the day of the week.

  • Karina Somers (Kizzyisdead)

Had a great evening. Food portions are huge and everything was really tasty. I had the empanadas and fries. Managed to eat 1 and wrapped up the rest to take home. Drinks are a little pricy but very tasty. Shame they use flavorings instead of fruit for the daiquiris. Live music was great. Really good vibe. The staff were lovely too

  • Don

Good place to have a cocktail or a tot of rum. Food is also decent as well. My only problem is the lack of rum selection here. Although it's cuban based, it's mainly more Bacardi than actual good cuban rums like Santiago de Cuba. Also wouldn't hurt to stock up on other rums from Jamaica or Barbados just to bump up the selection.

  • Neil Campbell

Went for an early drink at 7pm on a Saturday and plenty of tables available. Lots of cocktails on the menu, and loads of lovely rum that's good enough to just have it with ice. There's also about 10 beers on keg too, so plenty of lagers and Guinness if you're not in the mood for gin or rum. Nice atmosphere when it's quiet

  • Wayne Fox

Much improved now the bar on the ground floor has been moved to the side (used to be immediately near the door). The upstairs stage is good, although if you are a photographer take a flash to overcome the some green lights that they have artists faces. Kermit the frog was lovely, but I'd prefer to have some variety

  • Ellie Harris

Georgie and Clem behind the bar served us tonight and we’re absolutely fantastic! I have never had such amazing experience from staff here after spending my 19th here two years ago and coming back here just brought back great memories and reminded me of such a great experience. Love from Lee, Ellie, Dillan, Luke

  • Em Em

First restaurant I've visited since the ease of lockdown. We were unable to book a table as they were all full, so my friend and I turned up. The staff worked so hard to accommodate us. We ended up getting a table - the food and drinks were marvelous. Staff exceptional. See you again soon ☺

  • karl clark

We took a group of 15 people here on a Saturday night and although the bar was busy we were looked after amazingly by the staff. The bar manage frequently check we were ok. The food was amazing and all came out at the same. We had an amazing evening and would highly recommended.

  • Jess Armitage

One of my firm favourites for three reasons: AMAZING live Latin music every day except Mondays, fantastic cocktails from the amazing bar staff, and a chilled vibe in the cool decor. Look out for special events like Soul and Motown or Reggae nights, and check out the food menu!

  • Harminder Chana

Very very nice, has an excellent atmosphere and a great choice of Rums from around the world. Great live band, only need to check out the food to give it a complete review. Other than that a really good place to meet and socialize with friends and family. Locals are friendly.

  • Matthew Sexon

Wouldn't go again, very busy in the evening, everyone ordering cocktails take a bar staff a long time to get to your order because of this. Not the cleanest inside, although went on a Saturday night pay weekend so proberly not the best time. Drinks where average price.

Bar staff not that good, order drink and crisps 10 mins later the younger guy came to me demanding payment as he forget to add the crisps. Pity he couldnt he couldnt have been as quick with the drinks rather than demand payment for something he forget.

5/5 based on Cuban cocktails, the barman & the vibe (didn't try the food). The rum-based cocktails were awesome. It was fairly quiet when we poped in, so we had a choice of seats. It became very busy & quite loud later, hence we decided to escape.

  • Mike S247

Excellent selection of rums and lovely staff. Only point I would make is that the staff could do with a little training on what they have in stock to help with customer selection. It would also be great if this place did a tasting night.

  • Abigail Tura

Amazing food, atmosphere and music. Always good for a dance at the weekend and often has different bands playing there. Great staff and an excellent upstairs room to hire. Nice atmosphere here for a drink and food in the week as well.

I loved the position on the sun, but unfortunately rarely they have tables outside, last Saturday was an open market, so that's why. There's not a big variety of beers, contrary and expensive. The nachos were really good

  • Galley Princelton

Really really good. Great vibe, notably attentive and excellent bar staff, good food and great drinks. Spent FAR too much money in there, but that was our fault, not theirs! Excellent idea done well in Moseley Village.

  • Stephanie Phillips

Has great rum cocktails and a good selection of sharing platters and small bites although it is a bit pricey. Main downside is that it’s often pretty busy so it can be hard to find a table or space to stand.

  • Dolores Cobo

My friend and I went to the Cuban Embassy for lunch today with our little ones. The food was delicious and very good service. The quality of the food is really good according to the prices. Will come back.

  • Margaret Stammers

Wonderful atmosphere. Good range of beers and spirits. Great, but very loud music. The doormen were very thorough with the search of the gentlemen but gave only a cursory glance inside the ladies' bags.

  • C K

Walking round with masks on their chins telling customers to put a mask on Over priced cocktails for what it was. The cubanos were lacking in any finesse imo about 4 plantain chips on the tray.

The Cuban Embassy serves delicious food. We had the tacos and a pint of Neck Oil beer. It was quiet at lunchtime when we went. The Latino music was great.

Didn't use the pub downstairs, went for a gig upstairs. It's a small room, ideal for 'intimate' gigs. Have to find on street parking but that was simple.

Great place to go at night, good live music and good drinks, not been in the day so can't comment, definitely worth a visit if you're out in Moseley!
