I was in town to photograph a family going through some hardship and because I was popping in and out of their space for a few days I needed somewhere close to them. I found The Desert Compass when looking for somewhere nearby and it was just a minute down the road. The rates were comparable to hotel lodging with a lot more access to things I needed during this stay (kitchen, fridge, etc). The property is great, very beautiful and well taken care of. There is private parking as well. The room was much more than a room with a full living room & kitchen and bedroom. The bathroom was adorable but super tiny. The shower was interesting to shower in because there wasn't much space. For some perspective I'm 5'4 and because of the step up into the shower the shower head basically was on top of me. I also don't think there is much they could do to make the space more comfortable without doing a full remodel so I'm pretty impressed with what they did to make it comfortable anyway. And really the shower was fine for me but if I had been traveling with my 6ft husband he would have been very uncomfortable in the shower. I was in the Cowgirl suite so I'm not sure what the other bathroom spaces are like. But the bathroom situation would not keep me from booking this space again. It was such a comfortable place to come back to after a few difficult days. The bed was comfy too and I slept pretty well. The area around is great as well. Right across from a big park and a really neat old town shopping area & tons of food and coffee options well within walking distance. I would 100% stay here again!

This review is based on their customer service* Me and one of my best friends were supposed to stay at one of the Desert Compass’ property, the Rattlesnake Suite. We booked it approximately 5 days before our trip and we were super excited. The reason for our trip to Albuquerque was because my friend had to go toAlbuquerque to get his house with his roommates situated before he starts nursing school. Two days, before the trip the landlord sends a picture to my friend that their house had a pipe burst and needed to be repaired and cannot view the house for another few weeks, resulting in us not needing to drive to Albuquerque. I messaged Kelly, Taya, and Anna about our situation. Unfortunately due to us booking so late and within one week of check-in, they were unable to give us a refund. They were so sincere and apologetic and offered a deal: If someone books the dates we were supposed to stay, we can receive our full refund. Someone ended up booking! Anyways, the Desert Compass is a fine company and I can tell they care about their guests. They’re communicate VERY WELL with their guests and they do everything in their power to accommodate for the guests’ experience. I trust them completely to provide for me in the future when I get to Albuquerque and no one else! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Loved the inventive creative rooms. Coffee and tea were available to make in my kitchen. If in the area again I would stay there! I arrived early and arranged ahead of time to keep my suitcase in a locker on the property. I walked to the grocery store Lowe's that was a mile away, which was a pleasant walk through the neighborhood. Old town is basically across the street, closer than I thought. Albuquerque Museum very close by, has a sculpture garden that was fun to walk through. The ladies at the visitor center were helpful with suggestions for visiting surrounding and nearby areas. I loved the rooms at Desert Compass.

The Desert Compass is the perfect place to land while exploring Albuquerque—I cannot recommend it highly enough! I was so impressed with how clean, homey, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed the Yucca Suite was. Everything from the vintage books on the bookshelf to the handmade pottery in the kitchen (which was generously stocked with tea, coffee, olive oil—everything you'd need and more)—the attention to detail was truly above and beyond and made me feel welcome and cared for. The Yucca Suite is filled with thoughtful vintage art deco pieces, natural materials and local art all within a traditional adobe building. It was the perfect spot for a tranquil, inspiring desert reset if that's what you're after. The grounds are also wonderful—there's a lovely outdoor couch area, a hot tub, a cowboy pool, plus a handful of other outdoor seating areas scattered around the property. The neighborhood is ideal—it's within walking distance from old town Albuquerque which is a great area to explore and a short drive to the Sandia Mountain foothills where I spent many evenings walking the trails as the sun set. I can't wait to visit again!

Desert Compass is an absolute dream!! We reached out to Kelly to see if we could utilize their space as our getting ready location for our wedding and they were amazing to work with. We stayed in the Coyote and Rattlesnake suites and they were IMPECCABLE. The lighting was magical and there were endless photo opportunities for group, solo, and couples shots. I’m obsessed with all of our photos. Our stay there was absolutely amazing and we throughly enjoyed the private patio for breakfast and coffee the morning after in the coyote sweet. The decor selections in both rooms made me want to redo my whole house when I get home. You can tell a lot of time and effort goes into making all of their rooms very warm, welcoming, and relaxing. Would highly recommend staying here to anyone coming to town!! (Photography by: Cam Storie and HMUA: Genica Lee)

One night wasn't enough and we will definitely be back! There is so much attention to detail in the design and overall experience you get while staying at the Desert Compass. My husband and I enjoyed the yucca suite, the pool and hot tub. We walked around nearby old town and the sawmill district. We finished the night off making a delicious dinner in the fully equipped kitchen in our room. This place is a southwest gem. Highly recommend!

This is quite possibly the most magical place I've ever stayed. It was cozy but also so beautiful, romantic, and stylish. Every corner feels like something from a magazine. I know this because I couldn't stop taking photos of everything. I love that Kelly incorporates a lot of local artists from the products she uses to the artwork she decorates the suite with. It all feels very intentional and thoughtful. The location is perfect for a staycation or for someone visiting Albuquerque because of its easy access to so many great spots. Even though it's in such a central location, it's tucked away and feels very private and intimate. I would genuinely stay forever if I could. I can't say enough good things. Just do yourself a favor and book a weekend here :).

  • Doug Momberger (Certificated Contract Subs)

Amazing location: very safe, right across the street from a beautiful park with the Children's museum, the Museum of Natural History and several great eateries just beyond that. Old Town is a couple blocks away with more great restaurants and cool stores everywhere. Beautifully appointed suite of rooms (artwork, knickknacks, furniture, etc.) with a very comfortable bed/bedding. I was a bit of a text nudge while I was there and our host was fantastically responsive. We will be back!

This place is ethereal. I've been following other projects by the owner, Kelly, and finally had a chance to stay at her inn and it felt even better than it looks which is rarely the case. The Desert Compass is beautiful, clean and incredibly well-located. It's also filled with thoughtful touches and local flavor. It's always wonderful to visit a place and get a taste of what the culture there is. The Desert Compass fills that and more - it is truly an oasis within Albuquerque. I hope to come back sooner rather than later!

This is quite the Gem! The suite we reserved was the Coyote & it was everything! Aesthetically pleasing decor, very clean and smelled amazing! We really could not have landed a better vacation spot. My family and I truly value a safe, clean and aesthetically pleasing accommodations and this was absolutely it! I typically don’t leave reviews on google or just hand out 5 stars all over the place but I truly feel it’s well deserved here. Taya, one of the property managers happened to be on site and was so kind and helpful. It’s definitely a home away from home vibe and worth every star given!

Absolutely in love with the Rattlesnake Suite! You know you chose the right accommodations when you don’t even want to leave :) The decor, the lighting, the French press, the mattress pillow and bedding…! Located just across the street from the Old Town Plaza, even more perfect considering I was only staying for one night. Aahhhh the suite is soooo charming! If I am ever back in Albuquerque I will have to come back :)

I've had the pleasure of working and staying at The Desert Compass. Kelly, the owner, is so kind and has truly been so thoughtful about the design and function of the space. My mom, my partner and I spent this past Christmas Eve and Day together at The Desert Compass and it was so dreamy and cozy. And the location was perfect for our annual walk around Old Town on Christmas Eve. If I was visiting ABQ, I would stay here, no questions asked.

I did a property buyout with The Desert Compass for my wedding weekend and it was phenomenal.
