Lots of the equipment is broken. There were 3 or 4 cable machines out of use whilst I was a member as an example. This was just after the gym was closed for a few days for "refurbishment". I was talking to another member about the state of the stuff and she said it has been that way for "years". Make of that what you will. The water that comes out of the water machine tastes funny. No such problem with the fountains though. Some of the equipment is very tired too. Grotty handles, one of the handles for the seated row has so little remaining in the area where the carabiner goes that it looks like it could snap at any moment which would mean the user punches themselves in the face with whatever weight they were pulling. Not great! I can't say much about the staff other than there rarely seemed to be any. It used to be a 24/7 gym. Not any more. It wasn't an issue for me but maybe it is for you. I have switched to The Gym Group on Broad Street and it is so much better in comparison. There are always one or two staff members about. Broken equipment isn't common and it gets sorted quickly. There are more handles, ropes and so on too. If you're in between gyms, choose the one one Broad Street.
I visited the gym unplanned as I was considering joining after a huge lay off from weight training. I turned up in the late evening and unable to get entry buzzed the intercom. I was greeted by Daniel Thomas, the general manager. I couldnt have been more luck. Daniel had clearly finished his shift ealeir in the day and had just completed his persoanl workout. And yet he took the time to be so welcoming. After explaining the general set up he provided me with a free pass and I used the facilites. The gym is great. The estate is really spacious and equipped with plenty of equipement, from a multitude of machines to a large selction of free weights. I did not use a class but they do have the rooms and classes are run so it is worth checking these out. The location is ideal for city workers and anyone living nearby. But it is also well serviced by buses and there are two train stations, Moor Street and New Street a stones throw away, with SNow Hill Station just a little further. The prices are very good value also. I won't quote them as they will obviously fluctuate over time. I highly recommend this gym.
It's an okay gym. Only been going for a few weeks post injury but I've become quite comfortable to the place. Peak times are a bit different to the usual gyms but then again it's bang on in the city centre. The free weights benches upstairs can become a little crowded but there is a small area downstairs which is quite nice. I think a lot of the cable machines need a service at some point soon. A lot of them have "do not bang" signs on them but that is very unlikely to happen. A few of the cables have snapped, rendering the machines useless. I would assume they're being fixed around the new year to join the "get fit for summer" move but it is rather annoying. Continuing with the cable machines, a lot of the other cables are stretched and warped, which then impedes the range of motion you can get with said machines. Some of the treadmills could also do with a service too Overall its a nice, pleasant gym that could do with some work before the new year
I went to this gym for 2 months before switching to PureGym. Half the time your equipment is either broken or you don't have enough of a certain machine. My first day there your staff mad me extremely uncomfortable as I could hear them being quite sexist while I was mid set which made me self conscious and overall upset because it was directly behind me which felt it was directed towards me. They shut up when I looked back at them when they realised I heard what they had said. Another thing is that this place is disgusting. The final reason I left was when I was paying for 24hrs then got the email saying you guys were changing your hours but not your prices to match the change. I was paying for 24 hrs, not adjusted hours. Eventually I decided to move to another gym, you need better staff and better equipment which is sustainable for your members
Before lockdown I used to go to this gym and was great, classes were organised, totally different vibe, but now, since the classes restarted most of the classes are total chaos. Classes start 15 minutes early (and finish 15 minutes earlier), some classes are just for 30 minutes instead of 45 like the app shows and some classes are cancelled 2 minutes before to start. I don't want to give names. Some trainers are great, but some trainers told me that the classes are cancelled because I'm the only one who came. The idea is that on the app the classes were fully booked. After all this, I sent a message to The Gym Group and receive a precomposed response. I think they didn't even read my message. Customer Service = ZERO Hopefully, someday the gym will be great again..
Good for convenience as it's in the city centre, equipment are generally fine and not worn out, weight section quite small but would do the job (depending on your patience). Problems with the gym are primarily due to the fact that they bought out EasyGym and placed everyone into one gym. The gym smells more often then not, overly packed majority of the times during the day, heating is too high at times, and personal trainers are not the best. Continuing about the personal trainers, some are friendly and helpful. Others seem to not know the basics of training. For example, they would make people do exercises with bad form or even recommend exercises which can lead to many injuries especially since there's research about specific exercises you should avoid doing.
(Review is based off my personal experience with another member of staff) Stephanie Thompson is a great PT, if not perfect. My personal experience is that I have never been to gym, never used any gym equipment nor have considered learning new machines and trying them out due to failure and fear. However.. Stephanie has been a great mentor but an even better friend, she has taught me how to use machines correctly, took my diet into consideration, taught me new techniques and tricks, made sure I was comfortable and learning throughout our sessions. I am extremely satisfied with her service and would recommend her to anyone who has any level of experience in the gym.
This was my first month at this gym and I felt my previous gym was holding me back. When I tried to reach my goal by going the extra mile I was told ‘don’t push yourself too hard’ and ‘don’t test your body’s limit’ which was quite disappointing as I was paying quite a lot for the membership. But transferring to the gym and getting a booking with Mo has definitely made me reverse my judgement on pt’s and I can recommend Mo to anyone who has gained that lockdown weight and wants to take action you will get what you pay for with the professionalism, the advice and the calmness in the support he provided. Will definitely get more bookings in!
If you're going to a gym for the first time and aren't sure what to expect, then this place isn't great for putting total beginners at ease because it's difficult to work out where to go and who to speak to. I would highly recommend booking an induction session if you haven't been before. That said, once you know you're way round then it's well-equipped and with the exception of free-weight stations, there's nothing I've wanted to do but haven't been able to. Regular classes that you can book for free and the staff that I've dealt with so far have all been really knowledgeable and friendly trainers.
I’ve been at this gym for a couple years now and I thoroughly enjoy coming. The atmosphere is welcoming and there is enough spaces for everyone to have a good workout! The gym is well maintained however the changing rooms can sometimes be problematic but I do see an effort to improve this as the staff does regular checks. The trainers are always willing to help and offer advice. I’ve worked with Adrian and he’s absolutely wonderful. He greets everyone and is always looking of ways to improve our experience at The Gym. I’ll encourage anyone and everyone to join :) You won’t regret it!
Rubbish gym !??! Doesn't even deserve one star . I thought a gym in town would be good. What a disappointment. They do not have barbells any higher than 35kg . Only one Olympic bar rack !??!!? And two Olympic bars. I had a rubbish session . Half the machines and weights are upstairs half are downstairs . not happy at all . Two years later been back to this gym, they have new staff which are friendly and helpful and the gym has been extended so fairly huge. Alot of cable machines and dead lift areas. Pretty awesome now. So changed my ratings. Good job guys..
Iv been at the gym for over 2 months now and have been very disappointed with it. When I started 3 diffrent machines where broken and none have been fixed so far. Another 3 (that Iv noticed) have broken and it isn't likely I'll see any fixes any time soon. They constantly rearrange the gym so every month you have to play hide and seek with what things you wnat to use. It's very noisy, weights left everywhere and crowded with machines that barley get used. Most of the machines arnt calibrated properly so you can't get full range of motion on most of them.
Don’t join. Been going this gym for 2 years started off good with good equipment, free weights and not too many people. Now there’s at least 100 people in it unless you go in the middle of the night or at 7 in the morning I’ve just been at 4 o’clock and there’s 172 people according to the app. The weights keep disappearing there’s about 2 5KG plates in the whole gym 2 Olympic bars and barely any benches. There’s more broken machines than there is free equipment. I’ve kept trying to stay at this gym but if you want to build any sort of muscle don’t join.
It's getting harder and harder to train in this gym, from 24h to 6 - 23 at the same price. Changing room are always in bad conditions, machines always faulty and air-conditioning is disgusting. Most of the time it is put on hot air or turned off, as well as full of dust in the vents making it difficult to breathe when training. Most of the equipment is broken. The app says that when there are 160 people in the gym it is only the 50% of capacity when actually you cannot even train as there is not enough space or machines.
I first came here about 5 years ago and I couldn't fault it, I've returned back today and I'm quite disappointed!! Walking up the stairs to access the gym there were two people rough sleeping and it smelt very badly of urine!! Spent an hour or so in the gym only to find that some of the equipment is in need of repair or service, please get this sorted! Your customers pay for the services and should be able to use non faulty equipment. I gotta say pure gym was a much better option and more hygienic.
Lots of equipment available and well kept. The gym is clean, though how they expect a single spray bottle to be enough for nearly half a floor of gym equipment baffles me. It can get quite crowded. I do agree with other reviews that many people who use the gym tend to slam weights down (especially when using the machines) making it quite loud. Obviously the gym can't do anything about their clientele, but it's a very 'macho' type of gym, rather than a gym that a beginner would feel comfortable at.
Good machines and free weight area, only issue is it can get too cramped during 5-7 as it is quite a small building. Could improve with a few more leg and ab machines too. There are also problems with the changing rooms as there are only 2 toilet cubicles for the men which can become a problem when busy. The doors also have some problems and often break down needing repairing. Overall, a decent gym with lots if machines, cardio and weights but would only recommend for beginners starting out.
Clean, bright and airy gym - more than adequate for regular workouts. Nice big windows that look onto the shopping street if you fancy some sunlight while you work the treadmill / stepper. Sadly there are often rough sleepers around the entrance at night (increasingly common around Birmingham, a sad sign of the times), and the stairwell sometimes has people in it that shouldn't be there. That said, the gym itself is clean and safe with lots of up-to-date equipment. Great value for money.
Changing rooms, toilets and showers are always disgusting, not enough equipment for the size of gym and half the equipment they do have is very old and usually broken. Atmosphere is extremely hostile especially in the upstairs weight section. Staff are hardly ever present, and most of the members are rude, inconsiderate and don’t clean up after themselves and don’t put weights away. Definitely avoid this one and either get a different membership or go to the broad street branch.
I used the gym mostly through the day time when I visit and found it to be spacious and have plenty of equipment. The staff were helpful on my first visit, you need to remember to bring a padlock to use the lockers there, though you can always buy one from the vending machine. I'm not into classes myself my girlfriend prefers to go to them while I train in the gym, they seem to be popular and are always available to go to. For £15.99 a month it's just what I was looking for.
I would like to recommend Haroon at Haytch Fitness. He is one of the best personal trainers out there. He is loyal and dedicated to his clients- and deeply invests in each one of them. After taking his advice, I managed to lose a significant amount of weight and I'm so so happy. Losing weight is not just about making changes to your eating and fitness, it's about a complete lifestyle change, that's what Haroon teaches. Thank you so much!
Disgusting customer service. Spoken to by a member of staff called “kop” or “cop” and he was absolutely vile can’t actually believe he works there. Honestly the rudest person I’ve ever met and he’s supposed to be part of the customer service team. I’ve written a complaint so it’s all on there I suppose the only thing you could do is retrain your staff or recruit decent people. Never using it ever again.
A good range of cardio equipment, yet, the weights lack variety. Hygiene isn’t exactly the best on the machines itself. Tend to see the sweat from users combined with the dust Which makes it look grimy and unpleasant. Also, the toilet area in the women’s changing room tends to have a constant smell of urine. Overall, I suppose being the cheapest one I’ve been to, you definitely get what you pay for.
With failing equipment and sometimes very unclean facilities it's not the best. Sometimes a struggle to get on equipment and a lot of stuff always broken. Had an email telling us we were getting a price increase in October it's already gone up twice and now will be £18.99 not sure what I'm paying for, for a few extra quid I can get a sauna at other gyms and more space, so sadly I'll be leaving.
After going here for a year I’ve changed gyms as I’ve had enough of the place started smelling of urine/trash/weed outside the entry pods and men’s changing rooms aircon never works so just stinks of everyone’s sweat. Machines are always broken and pins missing from machines. Recommend PureGym, is way more hygienic and not a single broken machine in sight.
I purchased a fixed term membership for six months in March when this gym was 24/7. It was then changed to a more limited opening without notice, with no partial refund. This is one of a very limited number of The Gym's locations that is not 24 hours. When you take into account this is in the UK's second biggest city, I think that's very poor.
Might have the worst equipment of any gym I’ve attended. They only have clips for about 20% cables machines, so if there are a few other people in the gym, you can rarely use another. Half the lockers are broken. Half the shower doors don’t close. Water fountains are temperamental. Avoid if you can I’d say - particularly at peak times
It''s rather busy, very few people around to help - I am not a gym person but had no idea how to use most of the equipment. They offered free PT sessions so I would have been fine if I could get one of them but they only bring out availability for that week and the evening times book fast so could never get a time after work.
Great location and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Let down by non existent customer service. I used the complaints and contact email addresses last week and have not received a reply or even an acknowledgment. The equity, staff and admiiall go hand in hand and the Gym Group need to remember this.
Everyone I’ve encountered who works in this gym is so friendly and welcoming, and generally just really lovely. When I’ve had issues like losing my headphones or not being able to get in my locker the team have been so amazing and helpful. Would recommend so much.
Always a positive experience, always clean. Two downsides 1) put in a seating area like massage chairs as people use their mobiles on the equipment and not work out which is frustrating 2) Please sort out the lifts. Staff are brilliant. A great atmosphere.
So much equipment was out of order, the ones that I used most of the seats were loose. The weight benches were in poor condition and the flooring in the weights area was really uneven and springy. This gym is in need of a refurbishment and new equipment
I like the wide variety of machines there are. But people are very irresponsible, there are always weights on the floor, the discs are never in one place, people with coats and backpacks in the training area (as far as I know there are
Most unpleasant gym I've been to as part of the gym group. Lights in the lift broken, toilets and changing rooms disgusting, kit old and sometimes a bit broken even. Plenty of good gym group gyms you could go for instead of this one
Genuinely my favourite place to train! Calm relaxed atmosphere with plenty of space to exercise and experiment with new techniques. All the staff are supportive, motivating and helpful as all hell. I cannot recommend enough …
A lot of the kit is missing parts or has been out of service for months. It's quite annoying BC even though it's so big, quite a few of the same machines are missing the same parts which affects your workout. I regret moving gyms
Spacious, clean gym. Just near bull Street.but not much changing rooms. Only members entry, need access code to enter (which u will get only on website while registering). It is inside "Birmingham clean air zone'.
Great gym and great equipment and so convenient to get to. Absolutely love Steph!!! She’s such a great PT and she’s always there to help you feel beginners like me feel more comfortable in the gym …
Great gym. Friendly welcoming atmosphere. Staff are knowledgeable and really helpful. Big shout out to Liam Holder PT who has helped me enormously with my diet and training plan. Highly recommend.
Best gym in the city, extremely friendly staff, clean machines and plenty of space, often don’t have to worry about waiting for someone on a machine as there are multiple of any machine here
The best gym in city centre. Great crew plus very very spotless hygiene approach! Just started my 3rd year in this gym and never been let down on any single visit. Home away from home.
This is one of the best gyms that I have been to. Everyone are friendly. The instructors here are ready to offer any help and essential tips to have a successful fitness journey.
Gop was really helpful and helped me out with my day pass, he was very friendly and my overall experience was good at the gym and I recommend it for people to go.
Equipment is great . There is a lot of space and enough squat racks. Studios to do your stretching and loads of cardio machines aswell as the free weight section.
Great atmosphere. Everyone always puts their weights back. Gym members always happy to help other people. Friendly staff. Keep up the good work Bham.
Gym group is well organised and well structured great equipment and had some good sessions here over the 2 months I've currently been joined here.
Mo is a great personal trainer. He really understand what good customer service is and you can tell that he is very passionate about what he does!
A lot of exercising equipment is broken, benches with cutter upholstery. Changing rooms are not well cleaned. Shower rooms smell of urine !
This gym usually has enough equipment and it's fairly clean. My biggest issue is that the lockers are useless and the latches tend to stop
I like it here picasso . Haroon and Daniel are great staffs , very helpful and always happy to help . The gym is also very big . …
A Nice Gym Great equipment.. I Went early in the morning so it was a nice Quiet Session.. Great location accross the Road from my Hotel..
Nice gym been coming here for time fantastic staff and great Equipments at a great price. General manager Daniel Thomas very friendly.
Extremely disappointed that they have decided to close early!!!! Should reduce the monthly cost since it’s not 24/7. Very bad decision
Beautiful gym it has alot of equipment quiet spacious feels like a real gym environment very wide weight range highly recommend
Great gym, joined here over 10 years ago. They’ve made great changes to equipment over time. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Gym equipment sometimes broken and lacking in plates, but gets the job done and staff very friendly and available to help.
Great gym, lots of equipment, more than most Gym Groups I've been in! Showers not the best, can't adjust temperature!
Extremely friendly staff especially Gop. Great atmosphere with a variety of different machines. Definitely reccomend!
Absolutely incredible workouts here! Super great machines and one of my top fitness homes away from home! xXx! Bro p
Great gym for the price. Lots of equipment. I can see the staff are working hard to keep the place clean and tidy.
Lively environment and great staff members there easy to approach and they always have great advice for workouts
Always happy with the service and they are really good trainers and always enjoy going to the gym …
Been coming for over a year and is an amazing gym! Dan the manager is always super friendly and helpful
My first time at a gym and the staff were very welcoming and friendly! Great facilities and equipment.
Generally, it’s a great gym. However repairs to equipment take too long, that’s my only major concern.
Closes at 11 now?? In Brum city centre? It’s hardly “sustainable” if every other gym group is 24/7…
I love the community within the gym, the variation of equipment and the friendliness of the staff
Not 24hr anymore i enjoyed access late workouts for that reason im dissapointed bring back 24 hrs
Great value for money. Helping staff. Great machines and equipment. And good arrangement.
Decent gym and a good size. Some of the equipment has been needing repairs for months now.
Pretty good for the price , just remember to buy a padlock first . Staffs not bad either
Good gym to train in always clean and friendly staff always on hand to help when needed
Both Adrian and Dan were very helpful in rectifying a problem I had with my membership.
Staff are friendly, place is clean and plenty of good equipment, definitely recommend
A very well maintained gym. The star are friendly and happy to help, male or female.

Love this gym friendly staff ,set on 2 floors plenty of equipment to use …
Great gym, does get very busy at times but its clean and split over two levels.
Nice and convenient gym in city centre, best price and average equipment.
Whoever stole my coat from the women’s changing room, please return it.
Great place to gym, good location and friendly staff. Clean and tidy
Fantastic facilities, friendly staff. Great for your mental health!
