Outstandingly tasty and refreshing menu, happy and confident staff with an amazingly unique and relaxed décor. So lets break it down: Atmosphere: What a great little place! Nice Maître D’ serving station when you entre; however considering the space, it seems a little bulky and takes away from the open café like open seating area. It has an eclectic feel but it works with the brick-work and the big bay windows provide an amazing natural light and gives the front serving tables an amazingly warm feel. I haven’t been to a place that offers mix of a café, lounge and outdoor serving but this place just makes it work and uses the space brilliantly. Well done! Plus – who ever was responsible for that playlist in the background – great choice in background music! Customer Service: Couldn’t fault it! It was outstanding! Greeted respectfully at door, shown to our reserved table with chilled water already on the table, along with menus and drinks menu prepared. Order was taken within 5-10 minutes, entrée served within 10 minutes, mains about 10 minutes after. We were asked after our food and the plates were cleared timely and professionally. Every one of the staff, were so well mannered, charming and seemed so happy to be there. Really made the experience. Food: Entrée: Mushroom Bruschetta (split between two); Mains: Chicken Parma and the Confit Pork Belly (chef special) 2 non-alcoholic drinks Average $30 per person – with entrée – more for chef specials and alcoholic drinks - Mushroom Bruschetta – It was hard not to select some of the other entrees but this was a perfect split entrée for 2 people. It had beautifully rich flavour, vegan egg (new experience for me) and the balsamic vinegarette was just light enough compliment the dish. - Chicken Parma – Excellent! Nicely smoked ham, cooked perfectly, wasn’t over-crumbed and was not an over bearing size. In saying that, you didn’t feel like you were short changed on the dish at all. Additionally, you have to try these chips! They were so light, fluffy but crisp – I almost re-order them by themselves! - Confit Pork Belly – As much as I was hesitant that pineapple caramel was the sweetener in this dish, it worked so amazingly well. More to the point, when mixing the pineapple, asparagus, rice, pickled radish and pork belly together is was such a great mix of flavours not normally found in the regular household. Outstanding! Overall: I was researching places in Rye to visit and the recommendations here are extremely well deserved. Definitely give this place a try, we walked away overwhelmingly satisfied. I believe you will too! Enjoy

Loved it here. It’s in the running for the best breakfast/brunch place on the peninsula, in my view. I’d been keen to go to The Kitchen for ages. It is such a lovely stylish looking place from the street. And so it is inside. It’s a pleasant and warm cafe restaurant that is very nicely fitted out. There’s two good outside areas here too, one at the front and one at the back. We were a party of four today. Two of us including me went for the Big Benny. I’ve rarely made a wiser meal choice. It’s the big brekkie basically, but an unusually classy one. It’s a cracking dish. First, it has perfectly cooked eggs, two of them, with a nice hollandaise sauce and a touch of greenery. Plus, two very good slices of good bread well toasted. Few things make me unhappier than single eggs and single slices of toast. Great to see they don’t do that here. Nice tomato, very good mushrooms as well. Very good bacon too. But the coup de gras with this dish is a good wedge of high quality chorizo. Best chorizo I’ve tasted for a while. It was utterly delicious with such a good spice kick. This was a very satisfying dish overall. Out two other companions had the avocado smash and the bacon sandwich. Both dishes were very well received. We were given complimentary slices of Turkish delight just before our concluding coffees. My coffee was a beauty. Warm, creamy and absolutely flavoursome and delicious. The service was lovely here today. Generally efficient and nicely warm at times. A couple of concluding comments. They have a lovely looking drinks list here some good local wines and beers with excellent descriptions. It was also good to be encouraged to visit local breweries. We enjoyed it here very much. This was a very very good brunch. The quality at The Kitchen is evident. The cafe is as good as most places I’ve been to in the hipster drenched inner suburbs of Melbourne. We will be back for sure. (PS - the Zomato score of 3.2 at the time of writing is plainly absurd.)

Visited this place on Sunday 15th October 2023 at approximately 11am with my partner. The Cafe was packed out, with people queuing out the door. You'd think that's a good sign. Unfortunately it wasn't. The overall atmosphere of the Cafe was lovely The staff were lovely The service was lovely The food however, wasn't. I ordered the Kohlrabi Rosti for $23.90 My partner ordered the big breakfast. When our food arrived, the plating looked rushed. My Rosti's were undercooked, bland and raw, cold mush inside. Now most of you would say 'well why didn't you send it back?' With food waits of over 30mins, and people still filling up the Cafe, I didn't want to wait for more food. I ate the avocado and poached eggs. This review isn't about getting my money back or another plate of food. It shouldn't have happened in the first place. This place has some good reviews and some reviews of a similar experience to ours. The ball seems to drop when they are extremely busy Perhaps they shouldn't take as many customers, then the standard of food would be kept the same. Had to run an errand to kmart in rosebud, within an hour of eating, both myself and my partner were rushing to the plaza bathrooms with an upset stomach. Coincidence? I don't really want an apology from the owners. What I want is to warn others about the food served in this Cafe. An apology doesnt change how a business is run. I'm expecting the obligatory 'I'll pass the feedback on' and 'im sorry about your experience' Its a shame because its a nice looking little cafe in a prime location with lovely staff Shame about the food

We went here for brunch. I had the big Benny without the hollandaise sauce. Reading the menu I wasn't sure if the meal was supposed to be a big breakfast with a hollandaise sauce. If it was a big breakfast, i.e. the name big Benny, there was only one small piece of bacon, small amount of mushrooms, small piece of chorizo and 1/4 tomato. It was nice to have a variety of mushrooms and not just the button mushrooms. My toast was soggy so it was unpleasant to eat. Other places I have eaten at, the big breakfasts are twice the size. I understand prices are going up. Very little food for a big breakfast. My eggs were poached beautifully. A huge shout out to the menu choices for the variety of gluten free and dairy free options, for both breakfast and lunch. My first coffee was amazing, I asked for an extra shot, the coffee has a smokey taste to it, and it's very smooth. My second coffee, I asked the guy for the same as my first. I repeated the order to him and he still got it wrong. I didn't get the extra shot. I did mention to him, that he should write it down, he said he would remember. When I went to pay I saw my second coffee had no extra shot. When I paid the guy did take off the extra shot for my wife's coffee. The staff were friendly and willing to chat. The atmosphere was modern, yet you could see history within the place. We don't live local, we will take the drive down to eat there again.

If you're looking for a warm and cheerful atmosphere to enjoy a delicious breakfast, The Kitchen in Tootgarook, Victoria is the perfect spot. The restaurant has a friendly, informal vibe that will put you at ease as soon as you walk in the door. The menu features both classic breakfast dishes and some unique options to choose from. My wife and I both ordered different dishes and were both extremely happy with our choices. She had the Very Green Florentine, which was packed with healthy greens and bursting with flavor. I opted for the Huevos Rancheros, which was a perfectly spicy and savory dish that really hit the spot. To accompany our meals, we both ordered large flat whites and were blown away by how delicious the coffee was. The Kitchen clearly takes their coffee seriously and it shows in the quality of their brews. One thing we loved about The Kitchen is that they welcome people with dogs to sit outside, which really added to the relaxed atmosphere. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at The Kitchen and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great breakfast spot in Tootgarook. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food was top-notch.

A shiny little gem in the Peninsula. Came across it while driving around Rye looking for a cafe that has gluten free options. The Kitchen did not dissapoint! Lovely decor, cosy atmosphere, amazing food, friendly wait staff, gluten/dairy/egg free options for those with allergies. We ended up eating there twice during our short break in Victoria. Hubby said they made the best burger he ever tasted and I loved the brunchy dishes, plus the coffee was fantastic. I cannot fault this cafe and would give it 10 stars if I could. We will definately be returning whenever we travel down that way

Andrew catered for 12 of us on the weekend at our holiday house in Dromana. On Friday we had the Texas BBQ pack that included slow cooked brisket, pulled pork and smoked chicken chops, along with an assortment of sides & salads. His home made BBQ sauce needs to be bottled! We finished off with some chocolate mouse cups that were light and fluffy and a lemon meringue pie. On Sunday night Andrew served us an amazing selection of share plates that included salt and pepper calamari that was soo tender and delicious, grilled prawn skewers and arancini. For mains we had a lovely eye fillet, grilled chicken and barramundi that just melted in your mouth! Finally to wrap things up we had some home made pavlova that tasted as good as it looked! Would highly recommend Andrew for any future catering needs, a very professional, personable and friendly chief! Thanks for looking after us.

Table of 5 and we ordered “The big Benny” “obligatory smashed avo” “Proper egg and bacon roll” and “Tootgarook pancakes” With iced lattes, iced mochas and iced Chais. Food was delicious. Presentation on point! Wait time was fine and expected as it was fairly busy. The service was welcoming and kind and our waiter was a laugh! Which is always good!!!! -1 star ONLY because the chorizo wasnt whole and was actually a 1/4 of one. And it was a little annoying to pay $6 for it. But it was still yum! Would definitely come back and happily recommend this place!

We always have coffee here and tonight took the family for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the Pork Belly and Jamaican Chicken, the children loved their meals and the chips were very crunchy which is always a win in the family. The pricing was fair with the kids meals being very affordable and priced low. The atmosphere is a nice quiet evening for a couple. We had our big family and I kept shushing the kids because I felt like loud talking would interrupt the other diners. I feel like tonight was definitely more couples romantic night out focused and not so much a family type of night. They have colouring and yummy kids desserts which was a hit with everyone.

We came down to the foreshore for a camping weekend and were very lucky to be planted right across the road from this amazing little gem of a restaurant. We came for breakfast and it was so phenomenal that we came back the next day for breakfast again. All of the staff were bubbly, polite and well experienced. The drinks both hot and cold were amazing that we had. The meals were fantastic and so deliciously full of flavour. They were great at accommodating alterations to the meals if requested. The dining area is very neat, tidy and clean making the atmosphere very soothing. We will definitely be coming back for more as the service was absolutely astounding!! ☺️

Unpretentious, moderate priced, filling meals served with efficiency and light hearted professionalism. Moderate priced wine suggestions and very good variety, including reasonable priced Beers eg $9.00 for Crown Lager bottle. Food has been obviously thought out and mostly original dishes to be commended. Service is excellent and don't be afraid to ask servers for any advice or recommendations, they will excell at trying to please. Best to book ahead guys. If you need a doggy bag, just ask, they will accommodate readily. There on a Thursday evening, Feb 2023. Hard to beat in these parts. Menu changes but try their take on their Pavlova desert with pistachio.

Got the double smash cheeseburger.... Didn't get anything resembling smashed patties. If I got this from a fish and chip shop I'd say "this isn't a good fish and chip shop" and wouldn't be back. I would say it was a one off but the table ordered 2 and they both came out thick, dry and tasteless. The so called "famous chips" on the menu were bog standard fish and chip shop chips. You'd get better quality and value by ordering the minimum at your local. Doesn't live up to the price tag. Utterly disgusted at the 25 dollar burger price tag and this is what you get. Over 200 bucks spent at the table. Lucky if there was 100 dollars value.

Hospitality was really good; I felt welcomed and well informed. For a busy night, almost a full house, the food came out surprisingly quick. Food-wise, it was honestly nice; it wasn't bad nor great so I somewhat liked it~ But nothing grabbed me, making me want to really share it. So on the google scale between OK (3) and Liked (4), I'd give it about 3.4 stars for the food. I mean, the chips were the nicest thing in there; well crisped, crunchy, not soggy and filled unlike those hollow chips at your local fast foods. I tried the dragonfruit mousse because you don't find that elsewhere... It's definitely weirdly unique. Either I no longer like dragonfruit or this was not meant to be.

Tried out The Kitchen and really liked it! Place has enough tables and chairs both in and out with ample parking space as well. Only complaint is that when it’s full, as the case when we went there, it can get noisy so it’s a bit hard to understand each other. I reckon due to the tables being a bit closer to each other. As for the food, we loved it! The curry was so good with the parma and kid’s pasta being your standard tasting meals but very good nonetheless. We’ve yet to try the coffees but I bet they’re good as well. Staff were friendly too so made the whole experience good. Will definitely recommend it!

My two daughters took me out for dinner on our first night staying in Tootgarook and we found the kitchen walking distance from our acccommodation and it was so good we went back the next night as well. The owner Chris has a cheeky charm about him that made us feel at home and the food and service was impeccable there. Thankyou for giving us lovely memories and great food (and drinks!) to remember. I would highly recommend. Julie-Anne

I had one of the best meals I have eaten - and I eat out a lot and all over Australia & on nomadic travels. The approach to source local produce and local wine from ‘5 minutes’ down the road coupled with service that made the experience even better. Knowledge, smiles, attention to detail and be treated like an old friend rather than a customer off the street - enhanced my dining experience!! I enjoyed the crispy skin barramundi, wow it was delicious, the chef had even made his own spinach oil drizzled with a sprinkling of pomegranate seeds! I thoroughly enjoyed a local rose - Miss Bond. I will definitely be going back to work my way through the menu. Thanks to you all @ The Kitchen See you next time

10/10!! This little gem made my week! I got the Fettuccine Con Vongole, Arancini and Cheesecake. The cocktail was also delicious… Turquoise something, I forgot the name! Could not flaw one thing! Left my tastebuds wanting more. Also very impressed with how quickly meals were served, portion size and cost, I left feeling greatly satisfied! Inside is beautifully set up and cozy. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive! (Also very appreciative to the chef for making little alterations for my friend’s allergies where possible) To the owners, chef and staff… keep up the excellent work. I will be back!!

Absolutely OBSESSED with this place. The food was amazing! The linguini is to die for and the calamari was delicious, served with sweet potato chips was a nice mix up then regular places and it went well with the dish. I have a lot of allergies to and the staff were very good, putting things in side dishes for shared items and made sure the dessert had no nuts, they were very understanding and helpful! Cocktails were perfect, and the staff were welcoming, attentive and fantastic despite the fact it was a busy night. Definitely will be returning soon.

An "offshoot" of the hidden kitchen, The Kitchen is built on the same good food and good service mantra, and offers a more extensive menu and fully licenced. Well worth a try. You might be pleasantly surprised. 16/08/23 Over the last few years, The Kitchen has grown to a local favourite for many. What's there not to like? It serves coffee, wine, breakfast, lunch, dinner, live music. Both indoor and outdoor seating, including a cosy fireplace and couch indoor.

Food was tasty, coffee was good, tables clean and well setup. Service was a little hit and miss though; we got slightly different coffee than what we ordered, they forgot an add-on item we requested and paid for then didn't follow up when we asked about it (but did after we asked twice). Not a huge deal but for a busy place the processes should be well oiled by now.

Came here after seeing the good reviews. Ordered the confit of duck and barramundi. Unfortunately we had to wait over 45 mins for both meals, and when they came out, they really did not take 45 mins to make though it was well presented. Some steamed broccoli, mash with greens, not so lovingly cooked duck leg. People from The Kitchen, what happened? Will it happen again? The manager took the charge for our drink off, but overall I have to say I was disappointed. Such a shame.

The services is suck, when we try to order lunch menu, she told us we cant order till 12pm. Then when we ask, can you take our order 1st then only you put in our order at 12pm. She say cant, i need to order later again. Then another staff coming she say you can order 1st then she will put in our order later. (That is called service) . Another staff is friendly. Lets talk about the food. Crispy pork not crispy at all. Fresh juice is not fresh definitely is not fresh. So disappointed with their services and foods.

Adorable little cafe / restaurant! My fiancé and I had a wonderful breakfast here, the staff were so lovely :) especially the girl with the cute star earrings! I noticed how all the staff were super hardworking here, they’re doing a great job! I had the kohlrabi rosti and my fiancé had the banana pancakes (they happily swapped the chocolate sauce for maple syrup for him) and 2 cappuccinos, we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and coffees and wouldn’t hesitate to come back next time we are in the area.

Lovely customer service, food delivered quickly, amazing portions and great value (fed 4 ppl for $80) Well done to the chefs for making so many delicious cuisines - tacos, curry, calamari and pasta! Full lunch menu Wednesday thru Sunday has good gluten free options. Limited lunch menu Monday and Tuesday does not have gluten free option. I say this for the people needing gluten free food. Mum had gf mild curry with papadams and l had a prawn, corn. Mango salad on toast sprinkled with finely sliced chillies and corianda. Lovely staff. Recommend. Very nice little spot. The mood was set nice with a bit of acoustic live music. Good was fresh and tasty. We’d definitely come back when we’re in the area. The calamari was so tender and my partner said his parma was delicious. I really liked the salad dressing. It just added that zing to the friedness of the calamari and crunchy, crunchy chips.

Really nice restaurant/cafe, with very friendly staff that make you feel welcome. The place itself is really nice and the food options are good. The food was tasty, and the hot beverages are simply enormous. The chai in the picture for example was huge, but also super delicious. Thanks.

Excellent food, the double smashed cheeseburger was delicious and the service was the best I've ever seen, the bartender, Chris specifically was friendly, funny and improved my experience to no end.

Highly recommend the kitchen for catering. We used them for our wedding and Andrew was fantastic to deal with from the start. The food was delicious; we had so many compliments, Andrew even bought out the paella pan which our guests love. Thank you so much Andrew & team

Cafe that is a local icon with great service at the beach. Excellent brekkie and coffee, cosy in the cold, and relaxed alfresco option. Parking and crossing the big road can be a challenge.

Yum breakfast, yum coffee, lovely staff! We had the baked eggs and the Big Ben-ny (which i wish more cafe's had on their menu's!) Usually costs me about $30 by the time i add things i want to my big brekkys! Only disappointment was the hollandaise sauce, runny n nearly non existent. But would highly recommend this place.

We had both take away dinner & dine in breakfast, both of which were lovely, fresh meals with great flavours. The pavlova is A+! Staff are friendly & helpful, & chef cooked bacon perfectly for my hubby! LOVED the chicken wings..perfect!

Excellent. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem! Presentation, price, and taste were all good. They also have a decent selection of menu items without it being overwhelming.

Fantastic little place. Despite the recent fire which closed down inside dining and the kitchen. They have come together and pulled everything outside and created a little hide away to stay open and serve a limited menu (which was tasty and well cooked). Live music was a bonus and the service was friendly.

Well cooked peas and tomato sauce. Friendly service and relaxable environment. Really like the cute exterior and interior deco.

The nicest breakfast spot on the peninsula. The Big Benny was the best big breakfast I think I've had in Melbourne. It was too cold for enjoying the outdoor area but will be back in summer for an afternoon wine with the dog!

We came to the area for a romantic getaway and after trying many places, this was the best local brunch restaurant, which is impressive considering the strength of the competition. Really fantastic flavours and some of Melbourne’s best coffee.

Came here after a snorkel down Blairgowrie Pier-so we were famished! I had the smashed avo with a poached egg, it was delicious and very filling! The coffee was also good. Staff are polite, attentive and simply lovely. Great cafe in Rye!

It’s a vibe! Have never had a bad meal here. Always delicious food and the staff are always so happy and helpful. Easily one of the best places on the Peninsula to have a guaranteed good feed over and over again. Highly recommend!!

Great place to come for lunch! The cheese burger that I had was small but damn tasty. I recommend it for the kids, a small snack to shut them up XD. Staff were very friendly and nice. Have seen better, but still good. 5 stars!

Coffee is Melbourne standard. Fabulous staff, arancini balls were a win. Chris got creative and made a fabulous cocktail off the cuff. An absolute artist!
