My experience here was AWFUL and the only interactions I've had with the inn were nasty, rude, and left me shaken. They called me on my way there to say they'd be leaving early and would leave my keys in an envelope. This didn't particularly bother me since I know it's just a small inn. The trouble came when I had a problem and couldn't get in touch with anyone. I did NOT enjoy my stay. In fact, it was so awful, I left after an hour! I called both help line numbers four times, left messages, wrote a note on that I left on the front desk, emailed, and literally stood in the center of the hotel yelling for help and received NO reply. I didn't even get a call back from the emergency help number. Ever. The issue is that the french doors leading to the garden from my room (Hawthorne) did not lock properly. The keys I had didn't fit the deadbolt, and there was only a small latch at the top of the door. This didn't close properly and when I pulled, I could open the door several inches even with the lock still in place. I tried to barricade it with furniture, but the doors open out to the garden instead of into the room. As a young woman traveling alone, I was totally freaked out. I couldn't sleep there. Even scarier was that I was the only person in the whole place (or at least I assume, since I ran around calling for help and no one answered and there were no other cars in the lot) It was very concerning that no one EVER returned my calls. I was hoping for the offer of a refund since I didn't even end up staying and I had to pay for another hotel. I chose Morehead because I thought I'd be safe, but I've never been more creeped out in my life. I finally got a nasty, defensive email back a week later telling me I was wrong and crazy. Something else a young woman loves to hear! I had also called and left a message with a question before I booked, which was never returned, and I emailed before my stay with a separate question. All of these were unanswered. I come to Charlotte frequently for work, but even if I could lock my ground floor room, the customer service was enough to scare me off for good!

The Morehead Inn is a sad excuse for an establishment. The new management staff is unbelievably unprofessional, confrontational, and rude. NEVER have an event here unless you want to go through an insane amount of stress and be lied to multiple times. When last minute problems arise instead of helping you to make a new solution they will back you into a corner and threaten you. They advised that an outside event was possible but situated our tent under rain gutters so that it was totally flooded. They then proposed we have dinner outside in the storm instead of moving inside where there was plenty of room. In preparation for the event it was the same stress and frustration dealing with people who clearly don’t care and just want to rob people of their money. A little about the accommodations: do you like to fall into the middle of your bed and feel the springs all night? That’s what you’ll get if you stay here! You will also be surprised by unexplainable Burts of cold water when you take a shower, the strong smell of mildew, and unsuitable pluming. When you place a breakfast order you won’t receive the food you order but a buffet that you didn’t ask for. I would never recommend this place to anyone for a hotel or event space unless you want to be severely disrespected and mistreated.

I cannot say enough great things about our experience with the Morehead Inn. Ashley was an absolute dream to work with. She made the entire process so easy and pleasant from start to finish. She listened to my description of how we wanted our wedding to look and feel and went over and above to make that happen. It could not have been more perfect and I can’t thank her enough. Even when we were dealing with the possibility of rain she gave us all the options and let us know we had the final say so. There was never any pressure or stress through the whole process. Chef Myra was absolutely perfect. We wanted to do something a little different and she jumped right on board. She had so many great suggestions and the food was absolutely fantastic. You don’t often say that about wedding reception food but I’m still getting messages about how great the food was! Every staff member that worked there was so friendly and warm. They made my family feel just like we were staying in their personal house. I wouldn’t have changed a single thing! I will recommend the Morehead Inn to anyone looking for a venue that gives you that personal attention and intimate feeling.

This place is very unorganized and while the employees are nice they clearly cannot communicate with each other. I booked 3 nights for last week way back in August and not only did they mess up the name on the reservation, but they also messed up how many nights we were supposed to be there and kept walking in the room on the 3rd day. Even though my name, number, and email were given at the time of reservation they seemed to have lost all of this information and did not contact me directly. I had a friend staying in the room with me who was sick the last day and instead of contacting me, they kept bothering him to discuss their mistake. Overall on our 3rd day, the staff came into our room 4 times to have the same conversation. The wifi was down our entire stay and they never fixed it. Our room was incredibly hot because the unit connected to our room was broken and they also never had that fixed. The breakfast is absolutely delicious and was the 1 upside to this stay. For the cost of this inn and the experience, I would recommend staying at a chain hotel instead.

We chose the Morehead Inn for our wedding and reception venue on September 26th, 2020. Our wedding was an absolute dream! Dorrys is the Inn's event coordinator, and she was very easy to work with. Our original wedding venue in Charleston, SC closed unexpectedly, and we had to recreate our entire wedding in two short months. Needless to say, we needed flexibility, and Dorrys went above and beyond to work with us and our budget. Everything about our wedding and reception went off without a hitch. Dorrys and our day-of wedding coordinator stayed in constant contact with each other and with us to make sure everyone stayed on the same page. The food was catered by Charlotte favorite Something Classic. It's been a month and our guests are still raving about the appetizers and the dinner they provided. The bar and wait staff were professional and attentive, also. As for the Inn itself, we loved it so much that we reserved all 12 rooms for guests. There were beautiful and unique rooms for pictures and for the bride and groom parties to get ready on the wedding day. If you are planning a wedding in Charlotte, NC, do not overlook this gem!

We had a wonderful stay here on our way down to Savannah. Rooms - the decor in the common areas was jaw-dropping if you love vintage furniture. We took a moment to sit and take in each room and appreciate all the work that went into it. The renovations were done fabulously true to the era. In our bedroom there so many cute, thoughtful touches (robes, heavenly scented soaps and lotions) and also the bed was extremely comfortable. The keyless entry was also very helpful. Breakfast - excellent. I didn't expect a two-course, gourmet breakfast but it was such a charming surprise that really added to the experience. Service - Top tier thanks to Philomena who is just the sweetest! We really enjoyed chatting with her. She made us feel so welcomed and at home, it was truly such a special experience getting to know her. I would come back just to see her again. 10/10 would recommend this adorable bed and breakfast.

For our daughter's wedding the Morehead Inn was the perfect venue. The staff was very communicative about what they would be doing and very accommodating to all of our request. They were present late into the evening and interactive with all the vendors in a seamless manner that took 'almost' all the stress off of an exciting day. A courtyard wedding followed by a patio reception and then dinner in the main living room, dancing in the ballroom followed by a very 'late night' around a large outdoor fire pit with family made for a perfect weekend. The rooms were well equipped, clean and spacious and we received several comments about how tasty the food was. The breakfast each morning was special as well and very filling. The Inn shows the grandeur of a manor home with a few wrinkles but all in all, well attended. Kudos to Chief Engineer Chris, Hannah and all the staff at the Morehead Inn!!

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with The Morehead Inn. I remember first walking in when I was looking for wedding venues and thinking this was a dream come true. Dorrys did everything to make the day perfect. We were in constant contact over my few months of planning and the day was absolutely perfect. We rented the entire inn for the evening of the wedding and it was like having a party in your own home. It was cozy, comfortable and beautiful. I keep thinking of all the other life events I want to celebrate while I'm there like baby showers, birthday parties, anniversary parties... I just loved it! We stayed in the Mt. Vernon room and the bed was so extremely comfortable. We plan on coming back each year for our anniversary and will always recommend it to our family and friends. Thank you Dorrys and your amazing team for making my dream wedding happen. I will remember that day forever and always.

Came to Charolette Nc for a football game as for the hotels in the area jacked up the prices MHI didn’t and let me tell you I’d rather stay here than any major change it’s an older style setting and it surprised my wife I chose here after checking in the lady escorted us to our room and explained everything to us great job to the staff only negative I can think of is the TV is super small hard to see if you’re laying on the bed but it’s not a dealbreaker I would definitely recommend and stay here again

The Morehead Inn in Charlotte is the best B&B around. From the reservations service to the breakfasts. My hisband had major surgery at CMC so one of my daughters and I spent the night at this inn while another daughter was at the hospital. The one person that made it so special for us was the front desk person named Darrin. He took such good care of us from carrying our luggage to the gorgeous Lexington and showing us all the room had. When we returned for another nite we were put in the Euclid inside the in . Another awesome room! He again went out of his way to get us ice and came up with 2 wine glasses for us. We were treated like family! He should be commissioned to train others on how to treat clients! A+++ for Darrin!

Nestled on the edge of residential area & within easy drive to downtown. And also within easy walking distance to restaurants. We stayed here for a wedding and the service was wonderful. Our room, The Dilworth Room, was cozy & comfortable. It even had a balcony to sit on over looking the back courtyard. The food for the wedding reception and our morning breakfasts, we're delicious. Great southern hospitality.

My husband and I stayed at the Morehead Inn for the first night of our honeymoon, and we were SO impressed! Not only with the beauty and the cleanliness of the house, but also with the service. Specifically, we were greeted and checked in by Philomena, who is absolutely wonderful and made us feel right at home right away. She gave us wonderful restaurant and sightseeing recommendations specifically catered to us and our interests. We only stayed there for a night, but we have every intention of visiting again for our anniversary next year :)

If you are looking for a wedding venue, please look elsewhere. The owner is missing a sensitivity chip and he will rob you of your money like he did ours two weeks before our wedding. He demanded that we pay him in cash or else he was going to cancel our event, then had the audacity to charge our credit card two days later and acted as if nothing happened. How could anyone want to do business with someone like this? I read that Billy aspires to be a politician. Well, he certainly won't get a vote from this die-hard liberal minority. This is just a gist of what went down. I have saved all of our correspondences if anyone wants proof.

The Morehead Inn is a stately structure located just outside of uptown. The property has so much potential, but sadly the rooms are lacking in maintenance and updating. The carpet was dirty. The "wet bar" had no glasses, utensils or even a refrigerator. Heating adjustment was locked and we were given space heaters to use. The blinds in the living room were broken and bent. Black wash cloths oozed of black dye when used. So sad that the owners do not put more into maintaining and updating the rooms as needed to maintain such a beautiful structure.

DO NOT BOOK A WEDDING HERE!!!! This venue was a nightmare of rudness, negligence and poor customer service for my daughter, who used them for her wedding venue. From failure to get necessary tent permits after 100 reminders, to gutters that drain into their only outdoor space and flood it into a lake, to forcing guests to move furniture when their outdoor space flooded, to multiple cancelled menu tastings, to one of 2 toilets for 100 guests put out of commission before the ceremony started, topped with arrogant and anti-customer behavior on the part of their "event coordinator", my strong suggestion is RUN FROM HERE!

This hotel is so cool. It's it. A good area with plenty to do in walking distance. You may miss it because it just looks like someone's house. The staff was super helpful And nice. Breakfast was included and made to order. The place is filled with incredible antiques. The room, oh the room, I wish I we're staying for more than one night. Comfortable beds, clean room and bathroom. I know, I'm rambling. The whole place seem like somewhere where you want to get a drink and socialize or have a dinner party. Wasn't expensive either. I was surprised by the price. I look forward to finding a reason to stay there again.

My husband received a living kidney donation at the hospital. The Morehead Inn staff went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible! Everyone on staff was so kind and the personal touch really made a challenging time so much more bearable. The Inn is beautifully maintained and offers the southern charm of a historic carriage house! If you’re considering the Morehead for an event venue, you will be in Ms. Dorrys’ considerate, capable and experienced hands! Her attention to detail will ensure that your event is beautiful, runs smoothly, and leaves a warm, lovely impression on your guests.

My daughter's wedding was here on July 13, 2019 - I stayed July 10 -14, 2019. The whole time was so lovely! The place so awesome, beautiful and just so nice! We had the best time, from check in to all things we needed during our stay we were treated very special! My daughter and now son-in-law could not have chosen a better location - the setting is gorgeous - both inside and out - they were so accommodating. All of the guests of the wedding just loved the place. Very happy we chose The Morehead Inn for the venue.

Terrible staff with the exception of cooking. I had my wedding there planned and paid over 6 months in advance-went thru 3 wedding planners. The last of which, Jane Daniels quit and didn't tell me a couple weeks before my wedding and I only found out the night of my rehersal when a staff member said it like it was old news. We rented out all of the rooms and gave them the names of each guest staying there and many guests had issues checking in plus they charged a different two couples for more rooms than they got. The venue is pretty but for the money and 0% service, not worth it.

  • Kyle Frederick

I really enjoy the classic southern decor of this place. I attended a wedding here and it was a comfortable experience. There are apparently two finches that live in a beautiful cage in the library. The back yard was very well maintained with some beautiful and old trees. The food was good, though I don't know if it was catered or made in-house. My only concern with the place was that the bathrooms were limited and a bit dated (toilets flushed slowly). The lines were pretty long with all the drinking at the wedding. I didn't see any of the guest rooms, so I can't speak on them.

Wow! We couldn’t believe this gem right in the header of the city best parks, 7-10min Uber to anything, and with a beautiful breakfast, glimpse of the gilded age, and hostess with pleasantries for days! The manager surprised us with a little tour and history of the house and every need was met. We will surely visit Charlotte again and won’t stay anywhere else! Spacious carriage house with personal fenced garden, top notch amenities, fabulous breakfast to boot.

By far, the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The staff is the most customer service driven group of people. They are the absolute best at what they do, hats off to the GM. I really enjoyed the designs and layouts of the whole estate. Even though you’re a 5 minute drive to the heart of charlotte it feels as though your at home with family. I not only strongly recommend to anyone staying in charlotte but I will be returning simply for the Morehead Inn.

My husband and I chose to have our intimate wedding (40 guests) at the Morehead Inn and it was perfect!! Our families rented all the rooms on the property for 3 days / 2 nights, and we certainly felt like we were having a little family reunion which was perfect after the pandemic :) The Inn is beautiful, the staff are super nice and helpful, especially on the big day. Dorrys (the wedding director) was amazing to work with. You won't regret having a wedding (or any other celebration!) at the MHI :)

Stayed at the Morehead for a wedding this past weekend. We were repeatedly told to make the place our own. Service can't be beat - Xzavier is an amazing wonderful person! He's extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and jumps right in to lend a hand/help with any need and Elizabeth was friendly and helpful with both the setup and my food allergies for breakfast. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again - thanks for a great weekend!

Amazing staff and such a perfect atmosphere for a wedding! Ashley helped me for my wedding in May and was such an amazing wedding coordinator!! I seriously wouldn't have had the most incredible wedding if it wasn't for her so thank you, Ashley, for being so amazing at what you do! The chef exceeded our expectations and to this day, we are still receiving compliments of the food we had *Traditional Buffet*. I recommend this this place 1,000x!! Morehead Inn, don't ever change.

Room and grounds were very nice and the bed was comfortable. The dining room ceiling started to leak water as we waited to be seated. The staff was friendly but the wait staff covering breakfast was lacking. No creamer on the table, no menu, store bought muffins half hazardous tossed onto a plate….. took a long time to get anything and had to ask for everything. Just poor training and low expectations.

I photographed a wedding here in the October and sincerely hope to be back for another one soon. I loved working with Jill and the Morehead Inn team. They took a rainy weekend and turned it into an intimate, cozy celebration. There are countless gorgeous backdrops for portraits both inside and outside, with a lot of historic charm for a classic, timeless feel. I highly recommend considering Morehead Inn for you wedding or celebration, you will not be disappointed!

  • Kimberly Bradford

Was here for a wedding and was unbelievably disappointed by the poor treatment of staff to guests. The space was solicited as a rain or shine space but the tent was placed under rain gutters and completely flooded. Refused to move event indoors until we literally started moving things. Do not get married here. Do not host an event here. Unacceptable standard for guests.

Most amazing hotel I've ever been to. Nothing is overlooked to make the guests feel as if they are 1920's houseguests. The beds were wonderful, the breakfast even better. Every part of the experience was amazing. When you go to the main building make sure to check out the birds in the library! Above everything the workers were extremely nice. The location is perfect and you never feel as if you are in the city or in a hotel.

My fiancee and I have been working with Ashley at the Inn for about a year preparing for our upcoming wedding reception. She has been very instrumental in achieving the look and feel of a warm, welcoming wedding reception. There are so many options to choose from and she has helped us to narrow our scope through her experience. The food is prepared by an experienced, knowledgeable staff and I highly recommend their services!

This place is charming. It is like staying at the house of an elderly aunt. All the furniture is antique. Lots of charm but not all the modern fixtures etc of a modern hotel. We loved it but understand this is not going to be the Hilton. I would definitely recommend this Inn.
