I've been to this museum twice as an artist I really like (Leon Huscha) had his works on display for a number of months. It is quite a lovely gallery with all hard wood floors and a second floor (3rd in elevator) that looks down into the lower gallery. Down in the basement they usually have some fabulous Russian Nesting Dolls all beautifully designed and painting. They were renovating this area last time I went so the basement gallery was emptied. I do wish they had a sign letting us know when that area would be available again for items. The staff is extremely courteous, knowledgeable and professional. THere was a wonderful appetizer table including chocolate dipped pineapple, strawberries and kiwi and an open bar. This is NOT the usual, this was "closing" party for an artist whose work was coming down. I had two kids with me who loved the art and a 90 year old in a wheelchair. There is ramp to get into building and short open top lift that gets you and your wheelchair to the main gallery floor. Elevators are accessible from there for any of the three exhibiting floors I can't wait to see who might be exhibiting there next!

This was an incredible concert commerating the 150th anniversary of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff. The artists were the Varshavski-Shapiro Piano Duo. These ladies were not only virtuosic but also in top form with a slightly eclectic programme, which included not only Rachmaninoff but Milhaud and Schubert. It featured works for duo piano and for one keyboard-four hands. The artists were emphatic as to the great dichotomy between the Russia of today's headlines and the great wealth of art and culture, which is the heritage of the people of all The Russias. It is the mission of The Museum to preserve and promulgate this heritage, and I am thankful for their providing this opportunity.

The exhibits at the time of our visit mainly focused on the communist era and transition afterwards. There were also biting satiric, anti-Putin cartoons. The support for Ukraine was obvious with large blue and yellow banner on the outside of the building and blue and yellow flowers in planter boxes. I expected more beautiful landscapes paintings, etc but what I absorbed most from the exhibits was the sense of repression of the Russian people. It was learning experience. There is a beautiful gift shop.

This museum was a lovely surprise. I really enjoyed the diversity of the art displayed. The contemporary sections welcoming political work, makes this Museum a relevant place to visit in this historic time of global conflict. The bathrooms were clean and accessible, the gift shop super cute, and staff pleasant. They were participating in a national free Museum day. I saw more folks of color than I had expected to run into. I don’t know if I would have given it a try had it not been for that opportunity. I would come back and pay.

Absolutely amazing place. The Museum is fantastic with a healthy selection of traditional and contemporary Russian Art you can easily spend a few hours browsing their rotating collection. We recently held our wedding at the Museum and we could not be happier. The space is great for a moderately sized wedding, guests can browse the art while arriving and the paintings add a fantastic atmosphere to your ceremony. Michelle is great at making the ceremony run smoothly and the process could not have been more painless. I would definitely recommend this place as a venue weddings as well as a visit to view the art.

This was the first time I went to this museum. It's a small museum that was done very well. The Spanish Mission style is unusual for Minnesota. There is interesting artwork on every floor (two floors and a basement). I was originally hesitant to go there because of the senseless war against Ukraine, but this establishment fully supports Ukraine. They even had some artwork from artists that experienced the war and were able to get away. It was worth the visit.

Glad we took the time to stop and visit this museum. My daughter is a real afficianado of Russian art and chose this for our family during our visit to Minneapolis. We weren't sure if we would like it as much, but it was great. The docents were very welcoming. What a shock to learn that it's the only museum of Russian art in North America. The museum shop was so filled with beautiful crafts, jewelry, textiles, art cards, prints, and soooo many books.

A very nice little museum on the south side of Minneapolis. There are several great pieces of art to observe. The building is a beautiful old church that is clean and has been kept up very well. The view from the balcony is lovely. There is a neat giftshop with fun and different items to purchase. The museum is very handicap friendly with lifts, ramps, and an elevator. Students, military, and seniors also get reduced price admission.

This is an often overlooked Minneapolis resource. They have a wonderful collection of art and objects and their staff are very well informed. During our recent tour the guide gave us a full history lesson from the Russian Revolution all the way through to present time. Also special exhibit featuring local artist Leon Hushcha is fantastic. Finally the setting was impressively reconfigured from a church to museum by renowned local architect Julie Snow. All in all and excellent experience

Great way to spend a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon. The museum isn’t very large, but I found their collections to be well curated with a variety of different styles from Russian artists, many of which I had not heard of. I also appreciated their display in support of Ukraine that showcased pieces from various Russian and Ukrainian cartoonists.

This is a beautiful little gem tucked right off the freeway in the cities close to the airport. I stumbled across it while looking for things to do in the cities. I'm so glad I found it! There's not a ton of pieces there but it makes you appreciate them all individually much more. We had a great tour guide who was absolutely fascinating.

Loved the gift shop. Their limited christmas display was interesting. I was hoping for more to see. Most of the art of religious and political propaganda which was still beautiful and interesting but didn’t impress me much. The lighting also made many of the descriptions hard to read. Overall, I wish there was more to see. Nothing impressed me except the gift shop which includes many handmade gifts and Eastern European cultural goods.

Beautiful. Small, but smart. We spent two hours there. Some fascinating insights in to art in the Soviet Era. Interactive table for children. Also a "Scavenger Hunt" sheet for children (cause it can be trying to keep an 8 yo in an art museum for 2 hours) Very affordable. Art is up close, photogenic, and distinctive. A great choice for of-the-beaten-path activities. Included is a small sampling of some of the things you will find.

  • Wendy Frakie

It was interesting, but not what we expected. I was expecting Russian art and what I got was regular art from Russian artists. While the top floor was cool and informative, it was about an American's experience in Russia, so really not what we had hoped to see. The gift shop, however, did not disappoint!

A small museum with a very nice collection. We visited over the holidays, and they had an excellent exhibit on Christmas in the Soviet Union that was fascinating from both and artistic and a cultural perspective. There was also some artwork on mushrooms that I thought was cool and quirky. Plus the building itself is pretty cool.

I do not speak Russian, although there are descriptions, the are terse and omit alot. Small selection of art (excluding icons (Bible covers)) that are beautiful. Be sure to visit the basement and gift shop.

A great museum for a short visit! The museum itself is pretty small maybe plan for an 45 minutes to an hour, not crowded. It's a good place to learn about Russian history. The nesting dolls were my favorite, they are so adorable. The gift shop is great, everyone was super kind and helpful.

  • Alla Aref

We had an amazing tour there with Ramaa. She knows so much about the Soviet history, helped us understand some paintings, her tour was engaging! It was more of a discussion than a lecture. Check out the shop on the 2nd floor as well!

Beautiful and moving art. Venue was the perfect size, allowing you to fully enjoy each piece without having to rush through to see everything. Can't believe it took us this long to go. Also very COVID safe, lots of social distancing and tons of open space.

Friendly knowledgeable staff. From Contemporary to the 1920s artwork. It was interesting to see leaders depicted that I grew up knowing of in almost life like paintings. Also sweet to see people of everyday life, enjoying life.

  • Tom Weaver

One of my favorite museums ever. They have a constantly changing set of exhibits so there's always something new to see. It's big enough to make it worth your time but not so big you have to plan an entire day around visiting.

  • Meg N

A local gem that always offers wonderful special exhibitions along with their stunning permanent collection. Whether you are visiting from out of town or a resident of the twin cities, you won't want to overlook this museum!

Loved it - all sorts of Russian art, in a kind of Spanish-villa-church type of building. Three floors, friendly staff, cozy and not overwhelming. A great place to spend a couple hours, and right off the highway.

Parking is free across at the church! We didn't realize this and perked up the road. Workers are extremely friendly and helpful. A great way to spend an hour or so.

Very beautiful facility. Enjoyed every minute of it. One of the exhibits I personally didnt enjoy. But because they have more than one gallery it wasnt a problem!

Decent, but only the Art of upstairs is really of substantial quality if you're looking for more traditional art. The staff were excellent, though.
