The owner has always been friendly, polite, and generous over the years. You get a sandwich filled with a massive amount of meat, flavored with cheese & other goodies. The fries are large & yummy. Drinks are super cold. But now The place it's self does not look inviting, and welcoming even though they gave it an outside face lift a few years ago. Actually now if you took a peak inside while standing outside , you would end up with so many questions on your mind mostly about hygiene,as if no one is looking after the place to keep up the aesthetic look, and the appeal of the place, and the cleanliness of the place. The place look dark, not enough lighting , plus other things. (Sad) We used to dine in before covid. Back then The place used be clean & inviting and the food was really good. So we learned to trust that their food was always good. But now you have to order outside the restaurant door.,. Their prices have gone up . It's ok. , and you would expect the food to come as good as always been. But No. The main dish( the cheese meat sandwich) is not as good as used to . It is like the owner does not care about the quality of his meat that he is serving to his customers. The meat itself has a funny smell ( almost funky) Like a strong gamy , or meat smell similar to meat left outside the fridge for a long time. You still get a massive amount of meat on the sandwich, But Then the food taste, will force you to stop eating, after you take a few bites. And you wants to give it to a hungry stray animal or a bird,or put it your trash bin. You think this is a one time incident, but after you order a few times you lose your trust that was built over the years for this place. Also because now it is like a take out , you get none ,Or don't get enough condiments to enjoy your food with. And the owner does not put enough in your food bag. There is no area that is built just for waiting customers. It is rough outside the building.

The food is great, but the place looks horrible and like a whole list of FDA protocol are being violated. I've seen and had a few concerns with this place. The first would be everyone does not seem to care about cross contamination. I've seen mulitple cooks including manager/supervisor/GM (older black man seems to "runs" the show) wear gloves, open cash register, touch money, and with the same gloves go back and cook customer food. Another HUGE issue/concern is they let this Black male who is not an employee hang out there all day everyday and does as he pleases. He sits in the first booth and drinks his 211 malt beer with his remote in one hand and store telephone in the other and it's extremely worrisome to customers who come in and see how this business is ran. I mean I know they cook great food and have been in service for years, but if they plan on staying in service they should get it together and fast. No exceptions considering the location is in the poor part of South Seattle. This place is named The Original Philly-"Best Philly in Town" they need to represent and stop being cheap-fix the place up and start running a professional, clean cutt business. The younger White male I do have to say is awesome..he's fast, efficient, and customer service is the best of all. The whole team needs new shirts. The ones they have look as if they are decades old and employees should not wear as they please. Showing up to work like you rolled out of bed in sweats should not be excepted. Hopefully y'all wake up and smell the coffee of feedback!

Changing my review due to improvements! I love the Original Philly because it's been around since I was a kid. They have longevity within the community! They are truly a black business staple that i hope never goes away. Original Philly is welcoming to all members of the community. My grandmother who recently passed would always bring us Phillys Fridays from here, She really loved her pepper chicken steak philly And this is one of my fondest memories of her. She always celebrated black businesses and supported them. Along with her wisdom and love for good food, she passed the tradition of Philly fridays to the younger generation. We love their hospitality- and with my family mostly being from the East Coast it's very hard to find that atmosphere at other businesses in Seattle. Original Philly is family business is still providing affordable options for our community evenwith the changing economy. Everyone in this area has raised their prices due to gentrification, but they've never wavered to keep their food affordable and abundant. Their customer service is always on point, and I love how they provide jobs and opportunities for youth. Original Philly is more than just a restaurant, it is a part of our community and strengthens the bloodline in the black community with their influence to inspire more black families to come. Oh and did I mention the food is bomb!!!

My husband and I flew in to Seattle to see my son graduate from College. We were craving a good Cheesesteak Sandwich so he googled places and found Philly’s. The dining area was closed off so we ordered our food to take back to AirBnb. Steak meat tasted incredibly good with mushrooms and cheese. My husband had the Pepper-steak with cheese. He couldn’t stop saying yum with every bite. The fries also had great flavor because of the seasonings that were used. I rate this place an A plus because of the food and the friendly young man that took our order. We will definitely miss Philly’s because we live so far away. I don’t think we’ll ever find a great tasting cheesesteak sandwich like these. Keep up making the best cheesesteaks Philly’s in Seattle!

Went here yesterday because I love their sandwiches. I asked if they still had pound cake and the person working the front gave me an attitude about it, pointed to the advertisement and said, “I wouldn’t advertise it if I didn’t have any.” I thought it might be sold out with how popular they are. I also asked if it was possible to get the deluxe without mushrooms and he replied with an attitude about that as well. On the drive home one of the sandwiches juices leaked all the way through the bag. Decided not to eat the sandwich and will probably not go there again, or, if I do I’ll just order online. The last thing I need or expect after a 12 hour shift at the hospital is someone being rude to me for asking reasonable questions regarding the food they offer and my potential order. Again, the food is usually great, but just know that you may not be treated kindly.

Meat and bread were very good but cheese was way too stingy and subtle for a good cheesesteak. Dining experience is pretty subpar. A table at the door and you have to wait for someone to see you and come help you but you have to look around the corner to see the menu. Just an unpleasant ordering experience that you would find at a dive…except this doesn’t have dive prices. Prices are what you would find at a place with a pleasant dining experience. Staff were nice and helpful though so this isn’t about them. If you’re in the neighborhood this is passable but I wouldn’t consider it a destination place.

I'm going to preface this with the fact that I've never been to Philly so I've never had an "authentic" cheese steak. but I have had my fair share of imitations, and holy hell does this one blow them out of the water. I got the deluxe steak, full size. it was easily the size of my forearm and it was messy in the best possible ways. it was the steakiest, cheesiest sandwich I've ever had and well portioned for the price. y'all, if they tell you it's gonna be 10-15 minutes for the wings, y'all gonna need to wait for those wings. it is so worth it and my only regret is that I got 5 wings instead of more. overall, you got a great amount of awesome food for the price and the service, though limited because of Covid, was nothing short of pleasant. I will definitely stop by when I have cheese steak on my mind.

  • Latisha Newkirk

I had been a customer Way back when they Original Philly’s was in a house. They have changed over the years. It is getting worse and worse. The sandwiches are drier and you have to hunt for the cheese. The seasonings aren’t cooked and chewy bread. Quality off and I’m done. They are all rude and lazy including the owner Guy and rude. There are no leaders and that is a problem. There is no systems in place to serve food right and correctly. People want to eat together when they come in and not be served separately 30 minutes apart. They are serving people out the back door. It is one of the dirtiest places because their lazy asses moves likes turtles. They need close this danger hole down. I will be going to Kings from now on where they understand Cleanliness and customer service. Done 4-ever

How do you forget the cheese on a philly cheesesteak?...Must have completely replaced it with the ungodly amount of mayo making the bottom of the bread soggy. The meat tasted ok, good amount of peppers and onion. Shredded iceberg lettuce didn't add anything to flavor or texture, so it's hard to understand why it's there. Service was nothing to write home about. Front was pretty gross. Everything caked in yellow-brown grease. It would be wise to close for a day and spend it solely on cleanliness of the restaurant. For over $15 for the sandwich and fries (no drink)I expected more. Won't be back. Glad I tried it, so I know where to avoid. Stars docked for missing cheese, the barrel of mayo poured on the soggy bread, and gross front of house. 2 stars given for good peppers/onions and OK meat.

  • CaliGirl919 SD

I gave this place 3 stars because the food was still good, the person giving people their orders was very polite and friendly but the fact that we ordered our food, got a confirmation saying it would be ready in 30 minutes but it wasn't ready for over an hour AND it was incorrect is why. This is the second time we have ordered from them and picked up our food only to get home and realize the order was wrong. The 1st time they gave us a sandwich we didn't even order. Ordered steak and received chicken. This time the sandwich that says it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo had none of those things. When you pay over $50 for a meal and you have to wait over an hour for it the least you could do is make the order correctly. While we used to love this place I won't be going back.

I've been to Philadelphia and have had cheesesteaks at probably 15 iconic places there. the original Philly's is exactly the same and just as good if not better. The crazy thing is the prices. they are very reasonable especially in overpriced Seattle. I can also say anything I've had on the menu including the Italian hoagie has been excellent. my daughter went to udub and whenever I visited we stopped here. now that I've moved here I go once a week and im sorry i haven't reviewed it sooner. so if you want a great authentic cheesesteak, cheese fries, a hoagie whatever go here and nowhere else. this restaurant deserves your business. As a cook for 24 years simple is better and this place has it down.

  • Christy Abram

Good food, but bad customer service. I called in an order for a colleague and I and was greeted by a horrible attitude. The gentleman who answered the phone was very short and rude. He became frustrated with me because I took the time to get our order right. I could hear him telling a worker, "Here, I can't take this order. This lady doesn't know what she wants." His attitude and crass remark has become a deterrent to me continuing to patronize Original Philly. Especially, since I come often and refer others to the restaurant. It seems, the gentleman needs to be more gracious to the folks who keep their business afloat. I don't see coming back after this experience.

2022 Update: It's been about 5 years, so I decided to give this place another try. I don't know if I previously went on an off-day or if they have changed, but this place is delicious! The pepper cheese steak sandwich was huge and the perfect amount of spicy. The wings were really good too. The seasoning on them is unique and they were perfectly cooked. I'll be coming back soon. Be sure to order online ahead of time since their 30 minute estimate was correct. We arrived just as they were bagging our order. Review from 2017: I was really looking forward to this place since it's a short drive from my house. It wasn't very good and I will not be back.

  • Vincent Mills

I'm from Philadelphia, and so far, this is the only cheesesteak place that I like outside of Philly. The food and portions were how I remembered them, and the taste was pretty good. Definitely recommend. One complaint that I do have is that I asked for ketchup on my cheesesteak, but it didn't come with ketchup. It was still good regardless, but that was slightly disappointing.

Great sandwiches, friendly service. It's very rich food. If I recall correctly, the usual has mushrooms, fried onions / green peppers. The fries were really big compared to what I expected. I got the long sandwich and had a whole other meal with what I couldn't finish. Call ahead with you're order if you're going to pick it up. Or just eat under the trees just outside the front entrance.

Excellent Philly Cheese Steak, best I've ever had in my life, my go to is the Pepper Steak. Just make sure to eat it quick, don't take it to go, they're so juicy that the bread gets soggy. Another thing to try is their cheese fries, some people love them, some don't, but I'm a fan. The tables are sticky, sometimes there are flies flying around inside on hot days, but none of that matters, nothing will stop me from eating there. If you're a clean restaurant snob this isn't the place for you. It's one of those Seattle classics that will go down in history, I've been going here for 13+ years now, they've never let me down.

  • Hi Ny

First time here. Folks prepare yourself, the gentleman at the door is NOT chatty. So you order at the door. No paper menu. Just the one on the wall. Asked what he recommended. He read me the menu. Used common sense and said if the name is Original Philly, best order the Philly Cheese Steak. Got home the sandwich was very meaty, ordered the cheese and onions didn't find them. But it was filling. Heads Up! There is a $1 surcharge if you pay by debit or credit. Will I be back? Strong maybe. Love supporting local businesses but the next time I'll have studied the menu!

I ordered and paid for a Philly cheese steak today. Drove 30 minutes home. Opened it up and there was no cheese. It was incredibly disappointing the steak was good otherwise. Could have used more veggies. It's hard to find a respectable Philly cheese steak in this area code. Check your food before you drive away. Fair warning. It ruined my day (sad I know). Too expensive for a lack of attention to detail.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! I came from LA and frequented a joint that imported their bread & meat & cheese from Philly. That place had the best steak & cheese on the west coast... TILL I ate here. I even visited LA again and went to my old Philly joint and 2 bites in, I knew this place in Seattle beat them out. One girl's review said the proportions here are good. They really are. I'm a simple customer - they make a damn good steak & cheese, so I stick with that. Always satisfied and ready to go to sleep when I'm done eating haha.

  • Cyrs Lid

This place has been here forever . The atmosphere isn’t so inviting but the deluxe philly cheese steak is rich , juicy and moist ! I usually have half and save the other half for later . The cheese fries are a great compliment too ! Total comfort food and great portions . The staff always has a man cooking and nice girl that takes orders . Fancy fast food as is !! Some places try to look fancy but this place just is simple - the food is delicious and you can never go wrong ! Try to keep your hands clean with this one .

  • Douglas R. Beyers

It's a pretty gross place, tbh. Trash littered all over the parking lot, unwashed grime on the tables, can smell the bathrooms from the dining booths. And the food is just... okay. Not awful, but not very good, either. Kind of just leaves a dissatisfied, greasy brick in your stomach. If that's what you're looking for, go for it. I thought it's what I was looking for. But now I just feel like I need to take a shower and wash my clothes. And eat a salad or something to apologize for what I've done to my internal organs.

I tried to have one of your sandwiches at the bite of Seattle. The person who took our order said it would be 20 minutes. An hour later I still did not recieve my sandwich. I saw people who ordered after me get their food first. When I asked about my order they said they were working on it. I asked why people who ordered after me got their food first. She said she didn't know. Ultimately after 80 minutes of waiting I left. No refund, no sandwich.

This place takes me home to the east coast. It is SO similar to what I grew up with, it’s comfort food to me. The bread and meat are so good. Cheesesteak hoagie with sweet peppers is my go to. The best hoagies come from shops like this. To those complaining about greasy paper - this is how it’s supposed to be!

This restaurant should be shut down. The place is FILTHY. The staff INCLUDING the owner are ALL RUDE and act like you are putting them out for wanting to place a order. The cheesesteak is palatable but fries are terrible frozen specimens. ***Do yourself a favor and drive 2 miles south on Rainier Ave. S. to King Philly and have a great meal...in a CLEAN restaurant where they are friendly and appreciate your business. I'm now addicted to King Philly!!! You will be as well!

The Original Philly's will definitely satisfying your philly craving. Not always the easiest spot to get to but if you're local you know your way. You'll find a simple Cheese Steak to a Chicken Deluxe and it's always on point. The whole is big enough to split for 2. The fries are crispy and add some cheese for an extra touch. Don't forget the napkins because it can get messy.

Soft fluffy bread, tender well seasoned steak and just a touch of veg. It doesn't get much better than that. The hot sauce is on the counter. Step up and order then find your seat and settle in for one of the best cheese steaks you're likely to find in this half of the country. Get the cheese fries as well. It will still cost less than a trip to Starbucks. This place is perfect. It's refreshing to find that some things just don't change.

  • Sergey Kuznetsov

As someone who grew up in Philly I cannot say it was the most authentic cheesestake, I'd add more onions, potentially a bit more cheese, cut the meat a bit thicker, and perhaps use a slightly less absorbent bread (I personally prefer it toasted). That said, staff is incredibly nice, and it was among the better cheesestakes I ate outside of Philly, will more likely than not come back to try other dishes.

It was my first time going to The Original Philly’s today. My boyfriend ordered whatever he ordered. Not sure, didn’t care, he liked it though. I ordered the mushroom cheesesteak and was not disappointed. (The mushrooms were definitely in there and cheese too, I just mixed it up). Good portions, the bread wasn’t soggy, and the customer service was great. Everyone was nice and had good energy. I will definitely be going back.

  • A Johnson

Was a little thrown off by the jump in the price. Want aware of there being a half or whole order considering they didn't ask if I wanted either. When I called in the order she said it would be ready in 20 min then I waited the 20 mins and went to pay like I had before and then after I paid I was told it be ready again later than what was told. I ordered the Phillies steak, mushroom, and cheese but not sure we're the cheese went.

  • Cassandra Karch

Had a chance to eat from this establishment yesterday. The young lady cashier had excellent customer service. The sandwich I ordered, was pretty good. But the restaurant needs to invest in a screen door or buy a roll of screen fabric and put it up. The flies flying around, at least 20 of them were just disgusting. I was grossed out, I didn't want to eat, but I was hungry and wanted to check them out. Hope they get a screen soon.

  • Machiko M

Not very good sandwich presentation. My bun was soggy. Also, charged me for extra fries that I did not order. Poor customer service. You really need to have someone at the counter that is more customer service orientated and has clean shirt on. Also, to many flies and tables weren't clean. That was a big turn off basic cleaning of counter and sweaping of floors. I can make better sandwiches at home for $34 I won't come back.

Wow, is my first thought. I've passed by here numerous times on the way to a Sounders or Mariners game and have wanted to stop by. Today was my chance, drove by early around noon and the place was packed. Came back by at 2 and I ordered and my food was ready within minutes. I got the mushroom cheese steak in full. Perfect seasoning and the right balance of mushrooms and cheese. I will go back again for sure

  • Michael U

I stopped here because I was picking someone up from the Mt Baker train station and it is almost directly beneath it. The place is humble in it's decor and fixtures seen a but dated and with some wear, but it was clean and the staff was very cordial. I was very surprised but what I was served because not only was it ample but it was fresh and delicious. I will definitely be making my way back here again.

Tired of the same old sandwiches and fast food ? Philly's is something unique and different: awesome cheesesteak sandwiches but with different kinds of meat besides the classic beef -- for example, they have chicken and even a really delicious vegan field roast. Try the different combinations such as with mushrooms, peppers or plain. Great fries too. Sometimes a bit of a wait, so best to order ahead.

  • Maleka Burgess

I drove an hour to get to this place to see a sign that says please wait we will be right with you to wait outside for 10 minutes and then have the kid say sorry we aren't taking orders anymore. I called twice on my way here 20 minute before they stated they no longer take phone orders or online orders to be unable to order. Guess I'll be sending my friends somewhere else.

The make well priced, big ol' sloppy Philly's. The folks working seem indifferent to customers and almost proud of that. I'm not a regular, it's not my hangout. I get the locals only vibe, I feel that way more and more as the city is flooded with strangers. Man, I was ill after wards. Yummy going down but it roughed me up! Fries were crisp! No desire to return though, I doubt anyone cares.

  • Denise Karr

Best sandwich place ever but the young lady with the glasses who takes the orders is SOOOOO RUDE!!!!!!!!!!POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR SURE. And the wait is long. Jersey Mike's had a sandwich that's just as good and comes with great service......I doubt that we will be going back ever and will for sure not recommend them every again. You just lost all business from AA Asphalting and PSE

Food is awesome! No complaints there! Their sign says mask required.... Ok.! How come the cashier's mask is on his chin??? Not covering his nose or mouth??? The owner should say something ! Lastly they don't give you change back unless you ask for it, and when you do ask for it, the cashier gives you a dirty look! So those paying in cash have the right change!

Omg. I missed this place. The best Philly Cheese steak around. The full order is plenty for almost three people. Meaty, juicy plenty cheese. I like lettuce and tomato and mushrooms. Let's talk about the Awesome customer service person name Judith taking orders and delivering order. Best attitude, pleasant personality and all around awesome!. Job well done!

Only real philly cheese steak you will get in Seattle. The food taste great. I have been coming here for over 15 years and will continue to come here until the door close. The food is always fresh to order and alway a healthy serving. Service may not be slow because of the amount of people they serve all day but the place is great and staff are not rude.

  • Damian H

Thoroughly alright. Sandwich was more like an undipped italian beef than a philly cheesesteak. Wife kept wondering where the cheese went. Half sandwich was enormous; would have preferred it a little smaller and a little better. Cheese fries were seminal. I don't think we'll be back but if you're looking for a massive amount of food, this is your place.

Just had my 2nd trip. Pizza steak today and it was insanely good. Last week had the Mushroom swiss steak and it is the best I've had. Definitely will make Philly's part of my lunch rotation.

The best dinner ever . Customer service well above and beyond Charles and the gang are fantastic phenomenal super excellent. Best Philly cheese steak this side of heaven. And the chicken wings got me going back like 90 going North. I declare best seasoned fried chicken in Washington State

There is a little bit of a wait and the container they put my meat in because I had a long drive back to Kent had become soft before I made it home. Other than that it was great. If your not goin to eat the sandwich within 5mins I suggest you do what I did which is have the meat packed Separately from the bread or you will have a soggy sandwich

  • Charles Poe

Food was great, took a bit to get it but was worth the wait. No place to sit or stand and enjoy it. It seemed to be in a sketchy location from a travelers prospective.

Hadn't been for awhile but I was not disappointed. Had the Cheese Steak. It was nice and warm, delicious flavors, bits of onion. The bun was soft but not too soft. Every mouthful was joy. Fries are also good, served piping hot. I would totally recommend. Atmosphere could be better that's why no 5 stars but I come for the food. Check them out!

  • Nick Harju

Took a little longer than fast food like McDonald's but totally ok since I know it's being made fresh. Cashier was super nice and not pushy at all while I wondered what to order. This was my first time eating here. Would definitely eat here again. Would also highly recommend if you are ever feeling like a Philly Cheesesteak or cheese fries!

If you're from PA NJ or DelMarVa you'll have your cheese steak craving met at The Original Philly's. Perfectly chopped and seasoned with cheese throughout. The roll is what makes it (IMO) and they are generous with their portion of meat. Next level. Don't miss out. And the Eagles Superbowl champs sticker in the shop was the cherry on top.

  • Sam O

Don't let the decor put you off -- this is delicious, delicious food. I've been going there for years and those sandwiches are consistently gorgeous, hearty masterpieces. The service is a little hit or miss (you sort of get the impression they don't really want you there) but that's not really why I go. I go for the food, I am addicted.

Hadn't been there in a while because of a bad order I'd received. After a couple of years I go in today, ordered full chicken deluxe and cheesy fries. The melted cheese over the fries, all I could taste is very ooolllddd frying grease Chicken sub wasn't as bad. I do remember it being the bum in the past. Hope things improve. …

  • B J

Terrible experience, will not be back. I asked what kind of cheese is on it, stupid question maybe but the person taking orders was rude and probably flagged me because my portion was tiny but my friends received decent portions. Probably for the best as the sandwich was not good.

This place is so good! I've had the beef steak and the chicken with everything and both are fantastic. They have more than just cheesesteak, so if you're in the mood for cold cuts, fries, or other options you've got choices, but the cheese steaks are definitely the best!! Everytime I'm in this side of town I try to make a stop here.

Tried to give this place a second chance before a review but Customer service was rude the sandwich was soggy the juices soaked through the bag and got all over my seat I also bit into a piece of metal. Sandwich itself wasn't bad. Mostly like won't be coming back though.

  • Larry Daley

After living in the emerald city for 26 years. This has always been one of my favorite places to eat when I come back home. Best in the city. Been a fan since the Seward park days when there was no location. Once you have one of these sandwiches you will be hooked.

  • Brice McDaniel

Save your dollars ... the cheese steak was pretty bad. Bread was soggy and the steak looked more like crumbled ground beef. Never noticed the cheese. Hate to give such a negative review but this place was bad. Fries tasted good but they were limp. Won't go back.

  • Angee Smith

Walk up only with respect to Covid. Carside service. Cool. But My food was overcooked, messy assembly, the bread could have been stale or maybe sat out too long. Bonafide miss. This place usually rocks! One off or new trend?

Used to go here all the time when I went to Franklin. The owner is nice, and you get pretty good proportions here. Their cheese fries with chicken are my favorite, it's the only thing I get actually so can't really say how the rest of the food tastes.

  • Darold Stangeland

Absolutely the best! I drive from N. Seattle (at least an hour round trip) at least once a week. Worth it! The sandwiches are huge, but I opt not to get cheese sauce, as it doesn't travel well. Order sauce on side or get the other cheese they offer.

SANDWICHES/ FOOD ARE AMAZING. The only bad thing is the guy that takes the orders is rude some days and it's very seldom that he gets the order correct and will argue you down. So even if you call you still have to wait for the corrected order.

Best sandwiches ever! Juicy and delicious, and they don't skimp on the meat or cheese. The cheese fries are incredible. Only downfall is the wait time is usually pretty long, but we often call ahead and it's ready when we get there.

  • kevin hart

He said we had to wait 45 minutes before we could get our order and when we came back they had free fries and a drink to go along with our order exceptionally good service and the food was delicious hot and fresh will go there again

  • john carter

This is the best Philly that I've had in Washington in the 13 years I've been here and top 5/10 in my life. Friendly and fast service please support this black owned business you will not regret it. I will definitely be returning

My Son took me there for Dinner. We couldn't go in, they took our order at the door. A short time later we got our food. The Philly cheese was very good. I couldn't eat it all at once.

Great little hole in the wall spot the most wonderful philly cheese steak you have ever tasted definitely worth the drive to the central district of Seattle when you're there I recommend the cheese fries with steak!!

Amazing food. Just outstanding Philly Cheesesteaks and the Philly fries are so worth a try. Not really a place to sit down and eat, and the restaurant could be better kept, but the food is well worth the trip.

Don't be turned away if you don't like cheesesteak! They have chicken and fish too, and it's all great. Store is pretty old but still clean for its age. Good for a quick eat
