The Spaniel's Tale is the quintessential cosy neighbourhood bookstore, and a must-visit for any bibliophiles living in or visiting Ottawa. The selection of titles is well-curated and I've found a few books I haven't seen anywhere else. There's an excellent kids section with titles in English and French. The staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, but are also happy to let you browse in peace. They have an excellent customer loyalty program, and a monthly book subscription box. To top it all off, they're a great source to check out for local events.

While the Spaniel's Tale is a small store and their selection may be small, they carry a wide variety of genres and writing styles. They will also order anything you want! It is my go-to spot for books and the staff is always extremely helpful in helping me find what I am looking for. They are dog-friendly which is always a plus and they are starting to host and organize events related to books, reading, and writing!

For a small little store, this has an excellent variety of books, well organized, with friendly staff. Love that there’s a good-sized section featuring local authors, that it’s incredibly easy to order items not held in store, and that they are getting very involved in the community after only being open less than a year. Feels like they’ve been part of the neighbourhood forever!

What an amazing local bookstore! The owners are lovely and have put so much love and heart into their business. As an avid reader, I found many books that you don’t usually see on the ‘bestsellers’ tables at chapters. They also have a great selection of LGBTQ2+ authors, and books on various current social issues. Overall a great stop in hintonburg!

Super cute little local bookstore with very friendly staff! Also very accommodating with requests and orders. Aside from a pretty decent selection of books, they also have a good amount of related merchandise, including really cute cards, socks, mugs and bookmarks. Would highly recommend this spot for any book lover in Ottawa.

Simply one of the cutest bookstores in Ottawa with such an amazing staff! The store is packed full of books (even some pretty unique finds) and also has such an array of extra goodies, it’s easy to lose track of time from all the browsing! A great selection 2SLGBTQ+ books too :) will definitely be coming back!

I happened across this bookstore while doing some Christmas shopping. Not only does The Spaniel's Tale have amazing staff and such a welcoming atmosphere, but the way the books are organized is absolutely perfect. I'll definitely be coming back, and choosing here over big chain stores like Indigo from now on.

The atmosphere here is New York City classic: smart, neighbourhoody, and interesting--with windows. ;) Can't think of a thing I would change about that place. (I ordered a book and it came in very quickly.) Yup, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes books and neighbourhood bookstores.

Incredible independent book store! It's a quaint little shop with a lot going on. They host many high-interest events and are very communicative when e-mailing with questions. I've received their book subscription box for several months and their picks are always spot-on.

It's a lovely bookstore. Pleasant and helpful staff in a nicely laid out store. Brings back memories of cozy independent bookstores. Like their digital side and ability to order books online and drop by to pick them up. Bonus: they also have a local author section.

Loving this small local bookstore. The owners are very nice. Prices and selection are similar to indigo or amazon since you can order online and pick up in store. But if you're not looking for anything specific, they still have lots in the store to browse through!

A great book store! And you get rewards! They handle books for everyone, love this store. Plus, you can get gift cards for Xmas. Once you get your book, you can go across the street to Stella Luna and read it while you enjoy a treat. How great is that?

This independent book store is an asset to our neighbourhood. The staff are friendly and very helpful. I think it is important to continue to support them by buying books and other things as well as attending some of their creative activities.

Lovely bookstore with incredibly kind and helpful staff. They have a fantastic variety of books - better than the bigger bookstores which have begun failing me where this store hasn't. I love the candles they sell as well.

Local bookstore, intimate space, minimal room to generously browse the morning I went as there was quite a line at the register, was even a challenge to get in and out of store.
