It is a cruel truth that if you require a personal injury lawyer, you or someone you care about are necessarily injured & are already spending a great deal of energy on recovery. 

Trying to make sense of the legal system and what options are available to you while also navigating the health care system is an overwhelming and discouraging task. I was pointed to Thomson Rogers by a friend, and I was assigned Stephen Birman by fate. When I first met with Stephen, a few months after my accident, it was not immediately clear how my injury would evolve over time, nor was it certain that my disability would be permanent: he was informative, helped me set clear expectations, and patiently answered my every question (more than once). My case, for reasons beyond our control, took quite a long time to settle. Stephen never gave me cause to waver in my absolute confidence in his ability and professionalism, and he never spoke to me with anything but patience and respect. In addition to keeping me informed, Stephen proactively advocated on my behalf with a number of agencies, leading to resolutions I would not have been able to negotiate without him. As my case grew more complicated, he put me in touch with various professionals to help with my recovery. From occupational therapists, to social workers, to case managers, to his own administrative team, Stephen has only ever surrounded himself with the most professional, empathetic and competent people. People I never would have been able to find on my own; people who would go on to greatly impact my ability to navigate my new reality. My case has resolved, and I am tremendously relieved. 
Because of the settlement Stephen negotiated, I have no anxiety about future financial insecurity, a fear that I had been carrying since the day of my accident. My only caveat is that having Stephen Birman for a lawyer has ruined lawyer jokes for me.
I don’t find them funny in the least anymore: my lawyer changed my life and I will be grateful to him forever.

I could not possibly be more disappointed with TR Law. The representation I received from them was a joke. They were unprofessional, unethical and completely unable to negotiate a favourable outcome for their client. I signed a letter of agreement to have TR Law represent me on January 27. Less than a month later, The partner who was representing me increased his rate by $50.00 per hour and did not notify me of the change in our agreement. In May, I sent him a one sentence email making a direct reference to our agreed upon rate. That would have been an appropriate time to notify me of his rate increase. He simply ignored the email and made no reference to his increased rate. When I first spoke with this partner, he told me that in order to keep costs down, he would have paralegals and assistants handle as much of the case as possible. Not a single billable minute was completed by anyone other than a partner. That meant that I was paying the partner of a law firm $650 per hour to make photocopies. This makes it clear to me that TR Law is more interested in ripping off their clients than they are providing them sound legal services and expertise. During the negotiation process, I felt like I was being represented by the incompetent nephew of a mailroom intern and not a partner of a supposedly reputable law firm. When our case was finished, I asked the partner representing me if he felt like he did a good job and if he was happy with the work he did. He told me that he was happy and felt he did a good job. I could not have been more disappointed in this lawyer and with TR Law. He was no doubt happy with his work because the price hike meant that he made almost as much money as the settlement itself.

My husband was hit by a car and suffered very serious injuries. A family member who had Darcy Merkur from Thomson Rogers represent them advised that I contact Darcy for advice. As our case progressed Darcy advised us with realistic advice, expertise and compassion. Our case was completed in a reasonable time frame and although my husband will always have to deal with the impact of his injuries on his health and lifestyle, the care and compensation for future care have helped us move on. (Note: Prior to reaching out to Darcy I had another very aggressive lawyer from another firm approach me. That lawyer who not only made me feel uncomfortable was going to charge an unreasonable fee. I am so glad that we contacted Darcy and that he agreed to represent us.)

All hope had been lost as my 2 previous lawyers did absolutely nothing to assist me in anyway and ended up just spinning my head in different directions. Then I was given a ray of hope as I was referred to the TR law firm. I did not know of Thompson Rogers prior to my referral and did not know what to expect. What I did receive was the absolute and ultimately the most help I could have hoped for. TR is diligent in finding and getting the help YOU NEED TO WIN YOUR CASE. They are all in when it comes to helping and everyone who's working on your file will definitely give you their best. I had Mr. Daniel Klein working on my claim from the very beginning and Mr. Klein was absolutely tops in all the background checking and researching and finding the clinics that helped me win my claim. Also kudos to Mr. Robert Ben who handled the mediation and hearing and would not be intimidated by the insurance companies staunch in your face no way you win this claim attitude. Also I have to mention Ms. Diane Bregg who answered all of my questions and assured me time and time again I was in very good hands. Ms. Bregg, you were and are absolutely 100% plus correct.
