I visited the Torre della Castagna with high expectations, hoping to witness the ancient voting process that involved chestnuts and bags. I was disappointed to find out that they no longer use chestnuts, but instead use boring paper ballots. What a rip-off! The tower itself is nice, but nothing to write home about. It's just a tall brick building with some windows and a door. The only interesting thing is the museum of Garibaldi's relics, but it's only open on Thursdays. Who goes to Florence on a Thursday? Not me, that's for sure. I give this tower two stars out of five, and that's only because I like chestnuts. Save your time and money and go see something else in this beautiful city. Maybe the House of Dante, which is right across the street. At least there you can pretend to be a poet and recite some verses in Italian. That's more fun than staring at a tower that looks like a giant chess piece. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Increible monumento. La delicada belleza de la Torre de la Castaña no tiene parangón, sin duda la joya mas brillante de la corona que es Florencia. En cada uno de sus detalles se ve la mano de la leyenda, del genio, del inigualable Igliff Romanini, el famoso arquitecto renacentista de origen milanés, contratado por Cosimo de Medici para dar forma a su ciudad. Parada obligatoria para todos aquellos ojos que busquen deleitar sus sentidos con un pedazo de historia viva.

Очень мощная красивая башня, построена в начале 14 века. Называется Каштановой, так как заседавший в ней городской совет для голосования использовал каштаны. В 13 веке в городе было порядка 150 башен. Из которых к нашему времени сохранились единицы. Каждая приличная семья имела свою собственную персональную башню. Строительство башен, их штурмы и защита были во Флоренции того времени чем-то вроде национального спорта. Рядом с башней находится так называемый "Дом Данте", хотя настоящие дома семейства Алигьери находятся чуть дальше по улице.
