it's my day off, and I need a debriefing day after having a challenging week at the hospital with my covid patients. And what better way to debrief than to search out and consume a nice meal. It's lunch time downtown Dallas, Texas, and I feel like some authentic Mexican food today. Something simple though. Of course the person to ask is the maitre d of the hotel. As my luck would have it, he kindly replies referencing the hotels restaurant. Not satisfied with that suggestion, I search out the valet manager. I posed the same question for a Mexican restaurant recommendation. And I scored! ...he recommends an authentic Mexican restaurant and calls up a car rideshare for me to go over to the restaurant. This is why Google reviews and search is important. Upon my arrival the signage on the door suggests that the restaurant is closed until 4:00 p.m. it's now noon. With a sense of defeat, I call upon a car service to return to the hotel and enjoy a meal at the hotel restaurant. To my surprise, and because, the rideshare makes a wrong turn, I come across a taco restaurant directly across from the hotel on the opposite side of the block. Has to be fate I'm thinking.. I enter through the tall double glass doors and up to the counter to order. With an opportunity to review "Twisted" Trompo, home of the mother flaming tacos; I place an order for a couple of different types of tacos and the nachos with protein topping. It is a very streamlined approach to ordering food, and the attendant is very helpful in explaining the products so that I can make a wise decision. I place my order, take my number and have a seat at the table. As I review the menu while I'm waiting I see that Twisted Trompo offer individual sides to order a la carte. So I decide to add a side of beans and rice and it was absolutely no problem at all. As a matter of fact, instead of getting the eye roll, the attendant reassured me that the additional side items I ordered would come out with my initial order. Moments later my completed order is brought to my table and my number collected. I exit Twisted Trompo, walk around the corner, back to my hotel room where I discover the wonderful flavors, carefully packaged and delectable bites of a hearty, flavorful Mexican lunch. I Highly recommend if you're looking for street tacos and the likes associated with them, nachos etc., Please LIKE if this helps you and/or FOLLOW so I can continue to share.

ATMOSPHERE: My husband and I wanted breakfast tacos on a Sunday morning so we decided to hop a few top rated taco places.. when we arrived and began making our order here at around 11am, a shirtless homeless man walks out of the woman’s restroom… they only opened an hr prior at 10am so this tells me there is no standard walk through of the property being managed at open or closing. The lady taking our order did holler at her peer associate on the floor when she noticed the homeless man coming out of the restroom but like what if I had needed to use the restroom prior to that man walking out of it??? For safety and cleanliness purposes a standard end of shift and start of shift walk through should be enforced in any place located in downtown Dallas. (Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of these events taking place but I’m sure the security footage inside the restaurant would have caught it on 7/9.) FOOD: Tacos were 50%filled, We ordered breakfast tacos. Breakfast tacos run about $2.50+ currently, there was an up charge for meat and I have legit 3 crumbs of bacon and barely any egg/cheese in my taco, of course I’m gonna think WTH. Now I will say they did give me 1 full piece of bacon after I complained but why are we giving crumbs of bacon?? I’m providing a picture of this taco to give an example of the true underwhelming amount of bacon I was originally given.. switch bleeds into my service review - it was good when I complained but wish I didn’t have to.

The food was good. I paid for a 5 taco plate. The manager was horrible! I’m not sure if he was having a bad day or what but he was very rude and aggressive. The server gave me a cup and never specified what it was for so I thought it came with my meal, meaning you can put whatever beverage you would like it. Unbeknownst to me it was a water cup. The manger approached the table and began yelling and being very aggressive towards our table stating that the cups we had were only for water. I proceeded to tell him that it was our first time there but he continued to be blatant and treat us as if we had stole something. He wasn’t reasonable at all and didn’t care to hear our side of the situation. We felt attacked and targeted cause were young and he thought he could handle us any way. Naturally we felt the need to defend ourselves and matched the energy the manager put out. We paid just like any other customer and never deserved this treatment. We felt so unsafe and uncomfortable that we took our food to-go. I’ll never recommend this establishment to anyone after being treated like this I am appalled!!!

These are the worst tacos I’ve had in Dallas besides fuel city. I ordered the 12 tacos via Uber Eats as a first-timer. I requested onions, lime, and cilantro, small spicy elotes, and a three chicken taco plate for my family. My total was about $70. The food came wrapped warmly. The elotes were smashed in the same bag, with the rest of the food wasted. I opened the tacos and immediately noticed that the chicken tacos were shredded chicken parts (gross). They should be transparent about the type of chicken served to give the customers a choice. The steak tacos were challenging to eat and full of fat. The chicken taco plate was covered in tomatoes and cheese (I don’t know what kind because they didn’t specify), and the elotes were drowned in water, causing the corn to be soggy and unflavorful. After all that, we left the dinner table still hungry, spending an additional $40. See pics for details. Good luck to anyone who tries this place after me.

I had the Cuban sandwich which had multiple meats and came with a side of seasoned fries. It was delicious and my wife kept pulling off bites for herself. The sand which was so good that my wife did not even get mad that I over ate and ruined or dinner plans by being to full to eat dinner later. I did have to bribe her with a full bite of the sandwich and while it was a great sarfrice I allowed her to partake in this amazing Cuban sandwich. The fries were also good, we had to walk over half a mile to get there but it was definitely worth the walk I recommend anybody passing through the downtown Dallas, Texas area to stop by and give the Twisted Trompo a try you likely will only regret it if you don’t.

Yummy spot for some yummy Mexican fare! You can’t go wrong with their street tacos! I actually got Lupe’s Salad, with asada, and it was delicious! Chock full of perfectly seasoned steak, on a nice bed of arugula, tomatoes, cukes and avocado. And when I say “chock full” I mean it! A lot of times salads are more lettuce than meat, and this was not the case. The vinaigrette paired nicely with the seasoned meat. I also got one pork taco on a delicious homemade corn tortilla…..so flavorful! The restaurant was clean, service speedy and waitstaff friendly. The portions were perfect! I wanted more street tacos but glad I only ordered one, cause I would have been uncomfortable stuffed, if I had! I suspect I’ll be back here, at least one more time, before leaving Dallas!

Decided to try this place out because of the reviews and atmosphere it has. Staff was friendly and helpful as I walked in. I ordered several items including tacos, a quesadillas, street corn, and a torta to get the whole experience. Nonetheless, I didn't care for any of the items. The flavors we're almost there but weren't that impressive. Furthermore, the meats in the items were overcooked and almost dry. The salsas didn't help. I tried adding a couple different ones but neither did the trick. The rice and beans were probably the highlight of the meal. Also, got some mango margaritas but was disappointed in them too. Will have to order in (instead of takeout) to see if it changes my opinion, but not in a hurry to give it another shot since nothing seemed to grab my interest.

I never went to the same restaurant multiple times in 2 weeks! I m an international traveler, have been to 12 countries, and have been to 10 states in the USA. I love this tacos place and so much variety! All of them are so delicious! Recommend Al Pastor and their traditional tacos; carnitas barbacoa. I love their spicy salsa, caramelized onions, and jalapeno. They serve professional service and amazing delightful foods.

The best tacos I have had in a long time. The salsa is on point: Spicy but delicious (Green). I did not try the red sauce since I asked the waiter which one was the hottest, and I was informed that the red one makes you a living flame. Twisted Trompo has all kinds of meat. I tried carnitas, barbacoa, pastor and asada. All were amazing but my favorite is asada. I would highly recommend this place for two reasons: It is an affordable option in Downtown Dallas and their food is delicious.

Twisted Trompo was delicious. I got their burrito my girlfriend got the quesadilla which also was delicious . They have an indoor bar, with bar stools to sit at and watch TV if you’d like. They also have outdoor dining, I’m not sure If it stays covered though? I do know we were on a Thursday night out on the city and out off a lot of places to choose from they were open till a later time, unlike many other downtown restaurants that closed at 9 or 10.

First time visiting Dallas and Texas as a whole. We were craving tacos and this place did not disappoint! All the meats were so flavorful and filling, loved how authentic the frijoles were, reminds me how my mom makes them. The vibe inside is cool they have music playing that you just want to dance to my kids loved it and all the employees were so helpful and kind definitely recommend when in downtown Dallas

I was a bit drunk so take this review with a grain of salt but this place is SO GOOD. They have a broad menu but everything my party got was quality and delicious. Service was kind even though we came in an hour before close. Standouts were the quesadilla and the steak chips which had sauces galore that really taste amazing especially when you’re a bit drunk. They’re open late, kind service, reasonably priced food & it’s delicious at that.

One of the best fiscally responsible margaritas I've ever had. The place sticks to the Latin taco roots but has some slight variations for people looking for something closer to the tex Mex variety (twisted chips) Heads up, my comment below is based upon the many times I've been to the place over several years. Sometimes the service is hit or miss.. and by that I mean slow... But always kind

I just got breakfast delivered. Everything was a sloppy mess. I got the breakfast burrito with Trompo, breakfast taco with steak, and a carnitas breakfast taco. First of all the burrito was cut in half so it was just sitting in a puddle of grease. Soggy and nasty. It came with some stale chips. Forgot the guacamole. The steak taco tasted like the meat was old, rancid taste. Carnitas had no flavor whatsoever and was just greasy.

This was my first time and my husband's second time visiting Twisted Trompo. We ordered tacos: carnitas, their best to me, chicken, and quesobirria. We also ordered the twisted chips. The carnitas tacos are very flavorful and tender. The chicken was just ok, and the quesobirria tacos were tender and seasoned well. The twisted chips ha al pastor atop and were pretty good as well.

Loved this place. 1st time! Would come back. I'm Mexican, and the food was authentic. I had 3 tacos al pastor, which came with rice, beans, and sautéed onions. The serving size of beans and rice come in a small cup a little more than ¼ of a cup. I had a horchata, and it was good as well. Salsa had a good taste. The restaurant was clean and had a good atmosphere.

So much Yes! Definitely my go-to Mexican lunch restaurant when downtown. Taco Plate with Carnitas is my regular, and I don’t change it much just because it is so good! Totally worth it. Quick service as well. Line at lunch tend to get a bit long (especially on Taco Tuesday’s) so be prepared. Worth the wait, however.

Came here for lunch with my coworker and ordering was fast plus efficient. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and added a few toppings (which are extra). The quesadilla comes with beans and rice plus salsas. The meal was very delicious and salsas hit the spot (spicy but not too hot). I also ordered the guacamole and chips (comes with salsa) to go and that was tasty as well. I will definitely come back and try out the tacos or nachos.

Great tacos at a reasonable price. For $9.99, you get three tacos (your choice of meat) plus beans and rice. The al pastor tacos were fine, could have definitely used more pineapple. The grilled onions (on the side) were a nice touch. This is fast casual setup: order at the counter and take your placard to the table. Wait staff will deliver the food quickly.

SPICY. Everything was spicy! Street tacos (steak) were excellent, the meat was delicious. However, the elote set my mouth on fire and I couldn't enjoy much other flavor after that. Even the rice was spicy? The beans were about my only saving grace after downing my entire drink to cool my mouth. I know the sign says "Mother Flaming Tacos" but items that aren't traditionally super spicy should be noted as such.

  • Sandy Sanchez

Customer service was great at the register! Food was okay. They are not very generous with the amount of meat in the food. I had tacos (2 steak, 1 chicken) and the portion of meat was small. The steak tacos were good but the chicken had no flavor even though it looked like it was full of flavor. If those two things could change then we would definitely be back.

They probably in my top 3 for street tacos. Best chicharrón tacos I’ve ever had, and the way they fry the taco shell *chef kiss*. Only downfall is that parking is difficult/non existent. Update: just had the burrito and realized my order was incorrect. It was supposed to be a breakfast burrito but it was a plain steak burrito and somewhat lackluster. Stick to the tacos here.

Greasiest, nastiest food I have ever eaten. Rice was straight up translucent. It was like everything had been soaked in oil. You could even draw endless little oil trails on your plate with a single grain of rice. Disgusting. Says a lot about Dallas that a place like this is perpetually packed.

Great Food Great Price. We were pleasantly surprised, our experience here was awesome. The food was spot on, authentic, flavorful and the the price was more than fair. The staff were all friendly. We had a variety of tacos and all were good. If you're staying downtown and tired of overpriced mediocre meals, give Twisted Trompo a try.

Been here a couple of times now. Came on a Sunday evening, wasn’t packed at all and got my food quickly. Ordered a dozen tacos to share the al pastor and everything was great, portions were well just that the meat was a tad bit too oily for my liking. The jams are the best, can never go wrong with el conejo malo, Bad Bunny …

My wife and I shared 5 street tacos, with chips and guac. For well under $20, we were very full. I had the barbacoa, she had chicken. They were amazing. The green sauce, mixed with a little red to up the spiciness, was a perfect combo. It's a very busy place, but they still got our food out amazingly quickly!

Great place to eat if you are in downtown Dallas. Very friendly staff that helped us get exactly what we wanted. The fries with steak were just the right amount of spicy and the tacos with corn tortillas really hit the spot. I would highly recommend this place. Also, the prices were very reasonable

So the food here is always good but was very upset by the portion size of the queso and guacamole size for the price. Than I asked for extra jalapeños and there was one just one. Don’t ever ask for extra they seem to give you less. They also forgot my chips and there was no salsa in the bag.

Ordered Twisted Chips w barbacoa, “1 dozen” tacos, and 2 agua frescas for less than $40. Was more than enough for my s/o and myself and the food was absolutely amazing. We got enough meat and tortillas for way more than just a dozen tacos and I am not mad about it at all. 10/10 recommend.

Insanely good tacos and well worth a visit. The meat is well seasoned and the spinning roast somehow just gives it that extra layer of flavor that takes it up a level. The Al pastor was delicious.

This place makes some of the BEST and most authentic Al Pastor tacos I’ve tried in the US. The Al Pastor taco is one of signature dishes of Mexico city. It’s a culinary symbol for the 20 million people that call the Mexico City area home.

Cute spot to get a quick bite in downtown. Went for early lunch which was smart. By the time we were getting our food, the line had built up out of the door. Food was hot and fresh. Quesadillas were amazing, I got the pollo de trompo.

Reasonably priced. Perfectly cooked. Super tasty. Convenient and fast. Perfect for work lunch. Get at least one item with the Trompo meat. It’s heavenly! And to top it all off this place really has a heart and helped out government

Excellent street tacos and best of all, real tacos al pastor. My wife and I ate here on a staycation at the Magnolia. Delish! The refried beans and rice were delicious too.

Stopped by for lunch during a break we had at the nearby conference center. Both of us ended up getting the traditional quesadillas. It was delicious, fresh, and filling especially for the cost.

The quesadillas were a bit dry and greasy; the chips (taco chips) were nice and warm with nice sauces. The service at the till and serving out are efficient and friendly.
