I never write reviews, but after the 6 years of terrible dentist experiences in Korea, I feel compelled to write a review of how AWESOME this dentist (UPENN Barun) is. I have lived in Korea (Seoul) for 6 years. This has been the first time, the only time, in my 6 years here that I've actually had a good, positive experience with a dentist in Korea. The dentist here actually communicates with you about what is going on with your teeth. More importantly, he's honest and there's no B.S. My biggest problem with my experience with other dentists in Korea is that they tend to overtreat- and I can just feel a lot of their arrogance because they don't even bother to explain what's up, what they are going to do, etc. I did not feel that way here at all because the dentist explained things, was even saying I didn't necessarily have to fix a tiny chip on my back tooth (but he gave me the option to smooth it out and I took it). I'm so upset I didn't know about this dentist sooner- I probably wouldn't have had so much unnecessary work done over the last 6 years. If you want an honest, respectful dentist, come here. This place is also unique because they file directly with your insurance- I don't think any other dentist does that in Korea (they usually just give you the receipt so you have to wait forever to get reimbursed). Seriously mad at myself I didn't know about this place sooner.

This review is long overdue but not forgotten. I highly recommend this clinic (6 stars) to anyone especially foreigners who need to converse in English! Most of the staff speak good English plus a Dr who speaks proficient English. I felt very welcomed from my very first appointment. The receptionist who spoke in English was an angel, she made sure I got a tax refund, (I didn't even know I could do that). That came swiftly and effortlessly. To the other angel and saint, Hailey and colleague who helped me with a difficult situation getting tickets to Busan, your place in heaven is secured. I am still very grateful and still hope that someday I can repay the favour. Also to the beautiful staff that washed my teeth, I am grateful, afterwards I didn't think I needed to brush for a year. Finally to Dr Seung (dentist) with hands as soft as butter, who filled in my tooth and I wondered if I ever did have a hole. He was quick, soft and tender, (I can't even use painless to describe the procedure). I was truly shocked when it was over, couldn't tell which tooth was filled. LOOL (that good)! He also took his time to mould my teeth and made an extra mould just in case... talk about service!. Best know I will be returning when next I visit South Korea. Thank you all for your excellent care and service.

I’m from the states and came to S.Korea (for a few months) with braces. My ligature ties had come off 2 weeks prior to my departure from S.Korea and then recently my wire. UPenn Barun Dental Clinic put on new ties and readjusted my wire, securing my loose & pokey wire back into its original place. They are very responsive, and I was able to get a same day appointment. Life savers! I was very happy with their efficiency, the friendliness of staff, and their communication throughout. They told me how much it would cost based on what I needed done upon asking them via messenger. They speak English and Korean at this orthodontic/dentistry clinic and are good at communicating with their patient. I am very happy they were available and responsive when I had this ortho emergency. Even without insurance the price was quite reasonable. When I come to Korea (Seoul area) again, I know where I’ll go! A little hard to locate at first (third floor) but just ask someone in the building (comprised of multiple different businesses) or show someone on the floor the ortho/dental name and they’ll point you in the right direction, hopefully.

My experience at UPenn Barun Dental Clinic was positive from start to finish. Scheduling an appointment was hassle-free, with both email and Kakao-talk available in English. The staff's friendliness, attentiveness, and proficiency in English created a welcoming atmosphere, making me feel comfortable throughout my visit. After a less-than-pleasant experience at another dental office in Seoul, Dr. Kim and the team swiftly dispelled my concerns. Dr. Kim's transparency and willingness to address all my questions helped put me at ease. My second appointment, for a cavity filling, went smoothly. Dr. Kim and the staff made sure I was well-informed and comfortable throughout the procedure. I particularly appreciated Dr. Kim's preventive care guidance, letting me know what I should to keep an eye on in the future. All in all, my experience at UPenn Barun Dental Clinic was extremely positive. I feel confident in recommending this clinic for anyone seeking a reliable and patient-focused dental care provider.

J’ai beaucoup apprécié les soins que j’ai reçu dans la clinique dentaire UPenn. Chacune des personnes présentent parlent très bien anglais et sont habitués des étrangers. La prise de rendez vous est facile, rapide et ils sont ponctuels. Le cabinet est très bien équipé et propre, tout se fait sur place. Avant de venir j’étais assez anxieuse mais le dentiste a prit le temps de bien vérifier chacune de mes dents. Grâce aux photos qu’ils ont pu prendre, en plus de la radiographie, j’ai pu bien comprendre ce qu’avaient mes dents et ainsi comprendre le soins proposé. Chaque soins est expliqué en détails. Ils ont pris le temps de répondre à chacune de mes questions et m’ont détaillé le prix des soins. L’ensemble de l’équipe est très attentionnée et à l’écoute ! Je me suis sentie très en confiance. Je vous recommande vivement ce cabinet. J’ai eu l’occasion de tester plusieurs dentiste depuis que j’habite ici et c’est clairement le meilleur que j’ai pu rencontrer.

Highly recommended by a Korean friend, I came from New York to get full dental restoration done, given how prohibitively expensive dental work can be in the USA. My expectations were pleasantly surpassed. The dentist was very gentle and explained the whole process from start to finish and addressed any questions and concerns I had. Over the course of many visits over several weeks I had many crowns done, a few root canals, and new denture fittings. The dental work was the best I ever experienced and I experienced many procedures thus far into my old age. The rest of the staff were very friendly and a pleasure to interact with. They made you feel at ease and secure. The office is clean, modern, and spacious. This dental practice came highly recommended and I can only pass on the highest recommendations.

Dr. Kim is by far the best dentist I have seen in Seoul. I went to him for a checkup and cleaning, as well as to smooth out a chipped molar that another dentist in Seoul had been unable to fix. When I told him about the tooth, Dr. Kim took one look at my teeth and immediately pointed out exactly where the problematic spot was, which the dentist at another clinic had been unable to find. After a very thorough checkup and cleaning, Dr. Kim was able to smooth out the chipped tooth, and he made sure that I was happy with how it felt. Throughout the whole appointment, Dr. Kim, the dental hygienist, and the receptionist were all very kind and professional. And bonus: They all spoke English well, so it was easy to communicate with them. I 100% recommend UPenn Barun Dental for any dental work you need to get.

Don’t be fooled by all the nice reviews. We traveled from another country to have crowns done at Upenn Barun dental clinic because we were convinced the clinic was very experienced and professional in addition to speaking English. My family member had several crowns done here and they do not align. Dr Kim is not as experienced as he may appear and he shaved them too short for the crowns to meet, causing pain and pressure on the surrounding teeth. He refused to compensate or to fix his mistake and now we are in dept. What’s worse is that he won’t admit his mistake. I’m sure his staff will respond to this by siding with him to say “the patient asked for them to be shortened“ but the crowns should not be lower than the neighbouring teeth and he should know this as the professional.

Highly recommend for foreigners in Seoul! Great Invisalign care! I avoided to the dentist for many years in Korea because of translation issues and fear of dental work. However, Dr. Seung-Woo Kim and his incredibly caring team changed all of that. Dr. Seung-Woo Kim is trained in the US and speaks fluent English, so you never have to worry about translation issues. He’ll never upsell you on anything and kindly answers any dental questions you have. I’ve had such a great experience that I decided to get Invisalign with them. It’s been such a smooth process. He makes sure you feel comfortable every step of the way. I’m so happy the way my smile has improved! If you’re looking to improve your smile/dental health with a lovely and caring team, UPenn Barun Dental is the place to go!

I hadn't gone to the dentist for a really long time, so I was dreading having to go. I finally had the courage to find a dentist and book an appointment. I'm so glad i found such a great dentist. My main concern was cost and communication. However, everyone can speak English and are super friendly. They always greet you by name and check how you are doing. They will also explain the total cost of the treatments and how they will be performed. After the initial consultation there is no pressure to book. They will wait until you're ready! I had a number of treatments done and teeth whitening for my final visit. I'm super happy with the service provided. Please don't hesistate to message and book an appppointment, I can't recommend them enough!

I found Dr. Kim through recommendations online and I’m so glad I decided to go with him. Making an appointment with him was very easy. As soon as I got there I was greeted and felt welcomed right away. Everyone is absolutely nice and speak English. The receptionist is so kind and patient. As soon as you interact with her you know you’re in a good place. Dr. Kim is beyond great and empathetic. He took his time to listen to my concerns and explained everything I was worried about with details. I felt very comfortable throughout the whole appointment. The quality of his services are top notch and his staff did a great work as well. I honestly recommend coming to Dr. Kim, him and his staff are fantastic and will take care of you.

i never post reviews. but i absolutely had to share how wonderful this clinic is. i’ve always been terrified of the dentist, but i’ve never felt so comfortable as i did when i was here. the staff was always checking on me to make sure that i was okay and wasn’t experiencing any pain. everyone was so kind and spoke very good english. they took care of me and made me want to show my smile again. as someone who has hated their smile for years, i cant even begin to tell you how much that means. i’ll be leaving korea very soon, and the thing i’m most sad about is that i’ll be leaving this clinic behind. come to this clinic. they won’t disappoint you. and if you do, tell the staff hi for me!

I'm quite wary of dentists in Korea as a lot of them have a bad reputation for ripping off foreigners. But not this one! I came in for scaling and a consultation for veneers and Dr. Kim was upfront and very honest with me. He said he could do veneers if I really wanted them but he doesn't recommend them for the long term. It's also great that Dr. Kim speaks fluent English and can address any concerns you have :) the staff is also very friendly and accommodating to your needs. I highly recommend this dental clinic!

This is the best dentist I have been to in Korea. All the staff were so helpful and kind. Dr. Kim was very patient and answered all my questions. He speaks fluent English so it was very easy to communicate. He was very thorough and made sure to offer me the best treatment. He didn't try to push me into any treaent which has been the case at other dentists. I was also very surprised at how good their pricing is. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a great dentist with good prices.

This was my first time going to the dentist in Korea and it was a great experience. Everyone is very kind and welcoming and it was super easy to communicate. Also, they are very efficient. I got a checkup with xrays and a cleaning. It was very easy, quick, and painless. I will definitely be coming back!

I went here three times to date and each time has been very pleasant. I honestly have a fear of going to the dentist, but I would definitely go here again. The staff were kind and I didn't feel like I was being over treated, with the dentist discussing the treatments with me every step of the way.

I went here for consultation on what to do with my teeth. The dentists there are great, they explained clearly to me about each dental procedure and I finally chose the clear braces after considering its pros and cons. It's been 6 months and I hope after 1 more year, my teeth will be better~

Dr. Kim did my implant 6 years ago and I have had no problem at all with the implant. He is very meticulous and gentle. I also recommend Invisalign. It was so satisfying to see my crowded teeth get straighter with the clear aligners.
