I was diagnosed with cancer, which can seem like the end of the world. I went to the emergency room to speed up the process. First I’d like to say the wonderful person in the ER (Kitty) was an angel. You meet a lot of great people at UCSF, and a lot of awful people at UCSF. The first surgeon was confused about who I was, but turned out to be a man of honor. Way later in the process I ended up with an awful surgeon. UCSF is a good place to go for health issues, just make sure you stop and breathe during the process. I did everything I was told to do to survive, but honestly I should have said no many times. So here’s my advice, it’s your body, and only you have to live with the decisions. You will be told so many things, by so many people that you’ll be lost. Stop, take as many deep breaths as you can, then ask yourself what is best for you. UCSF will offer you procedures without filling you in on what you’ll have to live with once they are done. Take the time at each step to review how the procedures will permanently affect you. Remember, not your loved ones, or UCSF end up dealing with the end results. So breathe, and know even though these will be some of the hardest decisions of your life, you must trust your thoughts more than everyone else. Wish I hadn’t been so afraid of dying, that I didn’t consider what I would have to live with. My heart goes out to you. Now start talking deep breaths, clear out all the outside noises, and make every choice from this moment on for you. Best wishes .P.S. don’t sign important release forms while in your surgery gown staring at the surgery doors. Trust me when I say, at that moment you don’t hear a word anyone is saying. That is one thing that UCSF does, that should be against the law. J McKenty

My husband & I went to the ER yesterday for what was a really scary, potentially life threatening event and I was so impressed with the staff at this facility. I worked in a hospital years ago and I can say with assurance that everyone we encountered was kind and helpful and patiently answered our questions. The doctors had excellent bedside manner and really went above and beyond to put our fears and concerns at ease. The Rad tech was awesome & so was everyone from security & registration. No one wants to be in the ER but the staff there is excellent. The facility was clean and the overall experience was about the best you can hope for in ER experience. I hope we never have to go back but if ever we do this is where we’ll go. We’re so grateful for the professionalism and courtesy that we were shown.

UCSF is absolutely amazing! From my very first stay here to my very last brain surgery. All the staff are wonderful and very caring for their patient's. Dr. Edward Chang and his entire team saved my life. On July 12 I had an Anterior temporal lobectomy on my right side. I am today 42 days seizure free!!! I may have epilepsy, but it doesn't have me. If you have epilepsy, don't give up! Get a second opinion. Be seen at UCSF. I am beyond thankful for my wonderful Neurosurgeon Dr. Edward Chang. He is not only brilliant, but very caring as well. Keep up the amazing work UCSF!

I underwent Bariatric surgery on June 9th. When I arrived the staff was top notch. They treated my husband and I with the respect that patients and their loved ones deserve. The surgeons were amazing as well as the nurses and the anesthesiologist. The staff made sure to keep my husband aware of everything I was going through and when I got out of surgery and placed in my room. They even made sure I had my own room so my husband could stay. They really went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. I highly recommend UCSF for all medical needs and care

I completed an internship here with mixed feelings. First of alls, I think the name of the hospital would be more appropriate by adding ‘haunted’ into the name to UCSF Haunted Hospital. Creepy vibes. The buildings been there since the 1800s so think about that for a second. I learned a lot from my internship, although before I thought hospitals were fun, it turned out they were the exact opposite. I would not be returning for a second internship or a full-time position.

just spent 8 hours waiting for emergency service … there were several others waiting up to 11 hours and the official guidance was to expect to wait up to 15 hours … they obviously have a shortage of doctors .. if you have a real emergency do not go here it seems they cannot handle multiple issues at once .. never got to see a doctor and had to go home as it was too difficult for my wife to sit any longer .. nightmare

I have been in treatment for about 3 years. I have met some exceptional people and less. The system is completely overwhelmed. I strongly recommend you avoid this place if at all possible. My extraordinarily wealth friends get great care. Me lucky to be alive. Cafateria Medicine at its very worst.

Great experience from receptionist to our dentist! The receptionist was really helpful with parking and making the appointment. Our dentist was really gentle and playful with my toddler son. She was encouraging and patient with him from examining his teeth, brushing, and finally xray.

Awesome campus!! Weekly visits to the transplant clinic and the staff is always courteous and helpful, not to mention the screeners are superb!! Social distancing is heavily enforced which shows they are serious about COVID and protection.

Dr. Edward Chang, Dr. Ethan Winkler, Maryann Ward N. P and the rest of the surgery team were absolutely AMAZING. The UCSF hospital staff and the nursing staff on 6-Long are truly the best, thank you all for EVERYTHING

Best hospital for neurology hands down. This institution has saved my life and so many others. I believe in teaching hospitals because of this place. This and ucla are the only two on the west coast in the top 10.

Unorganized, useless office staff and medical center. They don't even know how to page or even know their own doctors.
