I go to UWC, as we know it, to learn to play squash at their squash courts. A colleague of mine who is a league player and a member of the UWC squash club offered to help me improve my game. As a social squash player who over the years, never could hit a ball properly and developed many bad habits to boot, this was an offer I could not refuse. My experience at the squash courts and at UWC has always been positive. The gaurds at the entrances, both front and back are professional and know their job. Not once was I allowed in without producing my letter indicating who I was going to see and not once was my driver's license not scanned nor my temperature not taken. I really liked that. Made me feel safe. The journey to the courts is circuitous but I don't mind because the campus is well signposted and having studied at UWC previously, I kinda have the layout of the place sorted out. So nice to see young men and women strolling around romantically under the trees or taking pictures on the lawns and in various settings to post on Facebook or send home. Making memories. I have my own fond memories of rushing to lectures from law or economics to the famous prefabs to get to Dr Jack Lewis's African Economic History class to learn about the Development of Underdevelopment. Fascinating compared to my Public Administration course. Ha ha ha! Finally arriving at the red brick building housing the squash courts under trees, I usually park near the front door. There are two closed courts and two glass-backed courts which are great. The place is always clean and when the club is practising, which is basically every night, the place hums with activity. After greeting, I head for the men's change rooms which are spacious. The building is old but everything still works. Especially the plumbing. The hot water in the mens showers is not as hot as the women. So, we often sneak over to that side if there are no women present! The courts have a section upstairs where you can watch matches in any of the four courts. I prefer to watch whatever is happening in the glass-walled courts. There is a small sink with hot and cold water close at hand and an old refrigerator to keep the cold stuff cold. Outside in the small courtyard is a braai area where I once enjoyed the most awesome ribbetjies with some great salads. A memorable first Friday night for me. I payed my court fees for the year, which at R500, is great value for money. Outside, I pay R100 an hour for a court. All in all, I always have a great time when I go to UWC.

Messed up my marks which were submitted with my application as I had updated them in the middle of the year. Did not want to admit the fault on their end, took months to get somewhere with the error and then got sent around in circles by the staff of the EMS faculty. I was told on multiple occasions that the reason why my application was rejected was because I didn't meet the admission requirements, and then when I showed proof that I do meet the requirements and they made a mistake they tell me to contact the admin staff to resolve the issue and that they will send in my application for reconsideration(which never happened) and that is where the cycle starts again. Absolutely sucks at answering the phones and emails, with the terrible excuse that the staff are working from home but the phone lines are always off. The higher level staff send your queries and appeal letters to the same staff that throw you around in circles because our issues are below their pay grade. Ultimately, my application was rejected on the basis that their was no space available in the course, but if the error was not made in the first place the space would have been available, so why should I suffer the consequences of an error not made by me? Dont even waste your time applying to this incompetent University you're better off studying through UNISA

The security guards at the entrance are absolutely disgusting and rude. I went to visit a friend who lives in Kovacs and the residence has their own set of rules different from the UWC residences. Kovacs is allowed visitors till 23:30 and that’s how it’s always been. These security guards did not want to let me inside and they really put my safety at risk. They failed to understand that I’m a woman in a dangerous area standing outside late at night and need to be at least protected, as their jobs should entail. They lied and said they were going to call the Kovacs security to double-check the visitation hours which they didn’t and made me wait outside with my friend for over an hour. I eventually had to leave because it was getting too late and they were still not letting us in. Even after I left, they refused to let my friend back in even though he is a UWC student that lives in res on campus. Very unprofessional!

After completing my studies here, I can say that the experience was extremely enjoyable. The lecturers are all very knowledgeable and most go the extra mile for their students. The tutorial programs (or "tuts" as the students dubbed it) are put well together and really help the students get a grasp of the weeks content covered in the lectures. The student centre is where all the students come together for some good food and everyone's favourite game, dominoes. Their library is the largest I've ever seen and is the perfect place to study or revise the course work. Lastly we cannot count out the best place to get gatsbys and other beverages at "The Barn", one has to experience this place for him/herself to truly understand its uniqueness. Thank you UWC for great memories.

Dealing with the administration is like trying to come out of mud even though you're already eye deep. NO SUCCESS! The excuses are pathetic. You should all be ashamed of the way you handle phone calls and issues regarding someone's application. There has yet to be a formal response on whether the application has been accepted or rejected (this very same issue was mentioned here 10 months ago). Clearly UWC doesn't care to fix their mistakes. Is it so hard to apologise and admit a mistake was made? Let's be honest and move forward to find a solution. It's better than pretending nothing is wrong. Also, we've got names!

University of Western Cape campus is situated in Belhar area Cape Town is now equipped with a full equipped athletic track that was recently resurfaced. This facility provides many sporting codes in the sport centre with gym and many other and activities for the students to prepare for national and international events and championshipd. Also hosted the USSA championship for 2022 as the first event on the track. Great stuff UWC. We can be proud of the facilities in the Western Cape and for the UWC Sport codes leading by example to many other universities.

I had a horrible time studying at this institution and I truly regretted coming to this institution! I never felt welcomed, the lecturers and the students at the psychology department were passive aggressive and disrespectful of me, looked down on me and I never had a sense of belonging. There was no support offered to me and NSFAS ditched me by not accepting my application so due to all of these things I was forced to quit as the stress was taking a toll on my mental health! I never ever want to set foot in this institution again.

  • Zaid Fakir

UWC- undoubtedly worst center of learning. That's the meaning. No one answers theirs phones, no correspondence via emails. Been struggling for 3 months to get my refund from this university. Would never ever send my kids this university nor would I give any good recommendations. Uttery disgusted in how they demanded their money in the beginning and now we have to beg for our refund. Not right amd unfair. Think a million times before paying money to this institution. Know for a fact you want to study here.

I am absolutely disappointed with the way this university operates when it comes to dealing with the regsistration of returning students. My friend had to register for a completely different degree after spending 3 years studying Accounting. Even though it was the University that had "lost" his marks and therefore decided to do absolutely nothing about it. Bare in mind the constant driving up and down to try and sort this issue out, yet someone was always "in a meeting" Very DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!

My Anywhoo's... It's been a while since I've been back at UWC as a student . Well, everything still looks the same. Some construction happening ‍♀️. But anyways, it was a ghost town. Security is still the same, obviously... The School of Governance looks a bit run down. Apparently since the "Fees must Fall" Era. Other than that, same old same old. Actually got a parking , that says alot. So.. And Until next time...

Home of the UWC bushies. Beautiful campus with top class sports facilities as well as academic resources and education. The university residencies are all situated on campus, there are a a few additional residencies that have been acquired off campus. There's a railway station close to campus and taxis around campus for transportation of students as well as the university shuttle service.

  • Aakifah Losper

Uwc is the worth ever institution where coloured students are concerned, not being racist however many African students have been granted special attention. The ems faculty Dean and Deputy Dean are so incompetent, unprofessional, and unreliable . I have hard on proof of student mocking the amount of times they have been allowed re-admission . However they do not care .

  • clifford ogutu

Got nothing short of beautiful memories. Such a lovely institution with state of art facilities. One thing that stood out for me was the cleanines around the university and the top notch security. The university has a lot of world class infrastructure ranging from sports playing areas, lecture halls to mention but a few. Staff are extremely welcoming as well.

  • Rj Mcfly

Had I finished the llb degree which I had been enrolled for: sure to have had a much better quality of life. UWC‍‍ campus in-general: a positive experience + environment‍♂️, sure to keep you focused, goal-orientated and motivated. Bravo. Never lose sight of your objectives. + "Carpe dieme" , and #Godspeed‍️✌️

  • Cyprian Lapah

Good Higher institution in terms of infrastructure and Teaching & learning.Still one of the most affordable compared to other public institutions within the Western Cape. Very fair (non-discriminatory) admission policies. My Postgraduate experience here between 2009 and 2011as a foreign student awesome. #Proud Allumni

Disappointed by their admin. I did not only wait hours to get help when I call but they also did not respond to any of my e-mails and web enquiries. My application was not accepted nor was it rejected 'formally'. Overall UWC is a great university no doubts however my experience with the university was overly terrible.

  • Joshua Gordon

The University itself is extremely diverse and filled with friendly faces. The infrastructure is standard but the University itself has a great history. The WiFi of the University is not of the best quality but with the amount of people that is connected one can expect it to be slow.

  • ERIN CRYSTAL SEPTEMBER

I am an Education student, and I thoroughly enjoy UWC's approach to the course. The lecturers are so friendly and understanding. The library is a great place for learning, and studying. UWC has its own culture of diversity and I LOVE IT, I would not change my institution.

  • Susan Nampewo

Does this ampus really have international students commitee? It seems like we are not part of the school anymore . Paid everything but still taken as trash thank you . I don't think I can ever recommend anyone to join cos what I have experienced is killing me !

  • Threslin Southgate

Great learning institution. The accounting faculty is one of the best! I'm a UWC alumni. The University has two entrances one on Robert Sobukwe road and the other across CPUT. Admin is very slow though which is the case everywhere in this country.

  • Dominique Kerchhoff

This university is really amazing. The environment is really laid-back and the students and staff are very friendly. The lecturers also go the extra mile to assist and help the students academically. I am a proud UWC Alumni

  • Tejas Gihwala

Very affordable education in relation to other universities. It provides opportunities to those who are willing to take them. No doubt they have their issues, but provides a stepping stone for it's students.

  • NTOKOZO MBIZA

A very beautiful green University with many good facilities, swimming pools, fields and wheelchair accessible areas. A student center with ATMs and food shops.

The University's Wi-Fi coverage could be better. Students are friendly but sometimes you find some racial segregation and janitors using foul languages.
