My recent experience at the Meyerland and Blackhawk Blvd. locations in Houston, on 12/16/2023, was incredibly unpleasant due to the unfriendly behavior of the staff. From their short, snappy, and dismissive communication, it was clear that they were not interested in providing good customer service. Despite arriving 15 minutes prior to closing for two services, I was made to wait for up to 5 minutes just to be checked in while multiple employees sat at a table chatting without helping anyone. It was frustrating to learn that the heartworm test I requested could not be performed because the results would be received 5 minutes after closing time. This information could have been communicated earlier, saving me from driving to both locations in hopes of completing my services. At the first location, I expressed my need for a heartworm test as well as my upcoming travel plans out of the country, but there was no kindness or empathy shown by the team. Instead, they simply refused to provide the service and my pet received a microchip only. The lack of communication skills and organization within the team was evident throughout my visit. At the second location, during check-out, there was an issue with the card reader and initially I attempted to pay with cash. I was told that change could not be given as the employee did not have any. However, miraculously enough, another employee who had been sitting next to her during my entire check-out process suddenly produced a deposit bag with change when the card reader would not work. It was disappointing to realize that if I had paid with cash initially, I would not have received my change back from this location. Overall, my experience at these Vanguard locations has left me thoroughly disappointed with the team's behavior and lack of professionalism. It is disheartening that these individuals are a representation of Vanguard as a whole.

No Empathy or Compassion. My dog was scheduled for surgery. We paid a $500 down payment for her surgery. Prior to the surgery, my 81 year old partner, had a very bad fall with a large hematoma on his leg and could not walk. I called on the Wednesday before my dogs surgery and informed them of Bob's condition. I offered to send them Bob's medical records, a picture of his leg and a letter from my doctor. They were not interested. They told me that the $500 was not refundable and Agreed to only charge me $300 for having to cancel the surgery. They later told Bob that they never agreed to that. So we had to Pay $500 for nothing. No compassion or empathy for bob's condition. I found another vet who is going to do my dog's surgery for less than half of the $3200 that Vanguard was going to charge me. I would never have a vet that had no empathy or compassion for our situation operate on my beloved dog.

The doctor was a lady...very nice and knowledgeable about her job. We have pet insurance that covers our doctor visit each time we took the pets to be seen by the doctor. But our experience went sour because the front desk suddenly introduced a out of the blue charge without advising us in the beginning. The front desk girl said that she cannot take the charges off the bill even though i was not advised in advance about it. The charge was according to them for computers tech/ software maintenence $ 9 or 10 dollars per pet. Plain sight theft! Thats sneaky customer service charge. That charge should not be customers responsibility at all and especially because the customers are not advised prior to visit. The management should have not allowed such charging techniques to take place. Very disappointed and not returning to that particular veterinary clinic!

TerribIe administrative protocol. I have been bringing my 2 rabbits here for a few years because Dr. Patrick is a knowledgeable vet for rabbits. Today(12/1)I arrived at my appt., on time and sat waiting, with my 2 rabbits for over an hour. Nobody came to check on me. My bunnies are already stressed just being in the car for over an hour because I live outside San Antonio. I came out of the room and told them we were leaving in 10 minutes. No one came to the room where we were waiting, so we left and nobody at the front desk said a word. Nobody has tried to contact me as they don't care I guess. The administrative staff intentionally over books too many appts that cannot be handled in a timely manner. And they have raised their cost for "wellness check-ups". We are finding another vet.

I am new to Vanguard Vet Clinic on Redland Rd and perhaps this is considered normal service for their clinic. My dog had a wellness appt on 6/23. The staff was absolutely clueless on how to process the Trupanion pet insurance, even the Trupanion rep asked me on the phone if the staff was new? After an extended wellness visit, we were sent home with allergy medications and no vaccinations. So another appt was scheduled for this morning at 930a for his vaccinations. We waited 40min after checking in, when I finally decided to leave. I received a call 1 hr past our scheduled appt time from Vanguard asking if we were still waiting. I've already scheduled an appt with our previous vet and will discuss the situation with our insurance provider.

Exactly. Just like other comments in here and other reviews, extremely rude front desk. Everyone going in with their pet, comes my turn they take my dog and say I have to wait in the waiting room. I cannot go in with them just the dog. How do you know if they’re treating your pet correctly how do you know they’re providing the service you paid for. Also huge price increase and difference just because of a difference of 6 ounces in weight. From 25 to 25.6lbs lol No aftercare instructions either just take your dog give me my money and bye. Again, I have NEVER seen a veterinary clinic where you don’t go back to the room with your pet unless they’re being hospitalized or they’re having surgery or a procedure. That is terrible!

Won't be going back.I have taken my pets to vanguard on Redland since 2011. Took my dog in for something they have treated before. But since he saw a new vet she wanted to start all over and run tests when I told her what is was and had been treated there atleast4 times. No antibiotics and something I could of purchased over the counter at petsmart. All about making more money just because he was a new patient to her.I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY BUSINESS EVER AGAIN!!!!! He did not get treated for what we went in for because I didn't let them do a feakle test

I’ve never had such a hard time building a connection with my pets Dr, my poor baby has been sick since she was born and I got recommended to this vet and it’s been a nightmare! They take your money and let you go on your merry way! I’ve been other places in a different city where they are calling and checking up on pets and ensuring their wellness is improving and that’s not been the case ! I’m so dissapointed and will not be bringing my baby back here. I do not recommend this vet.

Paid $268 for annual dog meds which included 3 month Bravecto flea pill. That did NOT include a certified Vet, which was more money. Meds given by tech. If you want to be in the room with your nervous pet, then you must wait for an available room and you personally must hold their head and mouth so they do not bite. Even though we were the only dog there, another tech was just asking too much for the 1 minute it took to administer meds. You see only techs, no vet for $268.

Dr Wallish was absolutely amazing. We have not had the best experiences with other vets and as a result we have anxiety with vets. Dr Wallish was so caring and went above and beyond for us. She was even able to cut out dogs nails without a muzzle which other vets have not been successful with. She made the whole experience a pleasant one and needless to say we love her. We will make sure we tell everyone we know to go to vanguard and ask for her.

We followed Dr.Patricks here from another clinic because once you find an amazing Exotic Veterinarian, you never let them go. So where she goes, we go ❤ Dr. Patricks sees my ferrets and has been absolutely amazing and is very knowledgeable! The girls at this location are all so sweet and take good care of my babies too. My boys are so loved here and absolutely LOVE the attention they get from everyone. Definitely recommend!

Front desk receptionist very rude and condescending. She a made comment stating if I’m going to breed dogs I need to read up on it. Well I’m not in the business of breeding dogs first of all, my pet happened to get pregnant and had a litter of pups so I called in with a question. Customer service at Redlands Oaks location is below standard average and being rude to potential customers is unacceptable.

Twice now in two visits I have experienced long waits with no communication. Today I finally left after waiting an hour. I explained the situation at the front desk and the young lady kept saying "oh ok", rather than apologizing or getting a manager. The waits are unprofessional, and rude to stick us in a room without explaining the long wait ahead. Very disrespectful of my time. I am busy.

Brought my baby in to this location this week and the experience was lovely! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The technician assisting us was so sweet and helpful when it came to providing excellent care for my boy. We are scheduled to return in three weeks and can’t wait! I recommended Vanguard to my sister who just adopted a new kitten:) Thank you for your time and excellent care!

Didn't start off good since I called and scheduled an appointment a few days ahead of time, when I got there they had all my information in the system but apparently they forgot to actually put me on the schedule so i had to be considered a walk-in which meant i was sitting there a while... BUT the vet tech that helped me was more friendlier than the staff upfront so I will be returning.

Staff is so friendly, professional, accommodating, and they answered all our questions. They genuinely listened to our concerns with the girls. Loved the way everyone interacted with with them. I have a reactive dog and I appreciate how they worked with me to get her into a room while avoiding other dogs/cats. This made the visit less stressful for everyone. I will definitely be back.

This is the best place! My dog of 13 years had to be put to sleep. He was tiny and this was very painful. The empathy and professionalism from everyone on staff from the phone call to the Doctor was appreciated. The price of having to do this was so affordable compared to everyone else. Also I was new to town and they still got me in on a Saturday. I highly recommend this place.! ❤️

Very friendly staff,clean and easy check in. They let me know they were running a bit behind but I didn’t wait very long. My golden retriever had an ear infection and the doctor explained all of my options. A quote was given which I agreed to. It is a bit expensive but I always get good care for Manu there. I just gave 4 stars because the price is a bit high but still doable for me

I have been taking our Dog there since she was born and she is almost 3. I have always had a great experience with them and you c tell that they really do care about your pet. The prices are really reasonable and don’t feel like I am paying an arm and a leg for routine visits or shots. I drove 20 mins just to go to this vet. Thank you for caring for our Cupcake.

The vet was very nice but she had an emergency so I wasn't seen until an hour and 10 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Then the check out process was another ordeal. They had to email me the receipt. Then I had to "accept" the receipt. I had to wait for the front desk to receive it. The vet was nice though. I gave the process the low rating.

I absolutely love this location! I have all my 5 pets as patients here and we are always treated so well. Appointments are so easy to schedule and the staff are so friendly. They will come say hi to my pets if they know they are here. My golden retrievers LOVE coming to this vet. Would definitely recommend this location!

I had been going to Vanguard for years before I moved. My vet closed and I needed to find a place to care for my cat for his end of life. They were quick to get him in and end his suffering, then I received a card from the office, with messages from the staff, including the vets. Thank you. Unexpected, but appreciated.

I’ve given this place more chances than it deserves. EVERY TIME I have come for a checkup we have waited over an hour past our appointment time to be seen. Staff unfriendly as other reviews have mentioned. If you value your time or sanity do not bring your pet here.

Extremely rude front desk. Sat in exam room for a hour, then they took my dog and I never even got to see the veterinarian. Then told me to have a seat and wait for my bill. Extremely Poor customer service. Never will I take my dogs there again. Beware!!!

What can I say about Vanguard? The best of the best, took my Snoopy to get neutered and the whole staff was amazing. Two days later he's back to acting like he owns the house lol. Thank you Dr. Patrick and staff, y'all have gained a lifelong client.

Had a very good experience. No one had to tackle my dog to give him a shot. Quick, easy and reasonably priced. The new system is odd, but I'm sure eventually it'll be easier. So you get text your estimate, sign off on it and then you get services.

I highly recommend the service Vanguard provides to their customers. They listen and assist accordingly. I have four small dogs that all have anxiety. They came to the car and assisted each dog one by one with shots. A good experience all around.
