Kinda cool to check out some local history and our very own NPS natural preserve. It's broken up into 3 sections, the Fort & a small hike, the observation point, and then a series of combined trails. We left the latter for another day. Pretty cool spot. Highly recommend for kids and to do it earlier when it's cooler.

Love history! The idea of what it was like at that time and the hardships they had to persevere. A different time and yet here we are. Check out the Spanish pond and trails across the street. The trails are great and the observation tower is really cool. Bring binoculars. There is also great history at the monument near by.

This is a free venue. Plan to spend about one or two hours here if you read all the history in the visitor center and take the short walk out to the replica of Fort Caroline. They also have a nature trail. Nice views of the Saint John's river. We enjoyed our visit and learning about the Timucuan Indians. I especially liked the timeline of who occupied Fort Caroline.

This center was really nice. The rangers were informative and kind. The kids worked and were awarded Jr Ranger badges. We took the 1 mile hike around to the Fort, and it was delightful. The entire site was shady and on a Wednesday underutilized.

I highly recommend going on a Ranger led walk at Ft Caroline. Fantastic historic/archeological walking tour with Rangers Josh & Rodney.  The location is rich with history ( i.e. Indigenous people, Spanish & French) & he is rich with knowledge.  He was very personable & kept the discussion lively.  This is an easy walk on mostly flat terrain.

What a great visitor center clean very friendly, park, rangers and volunteers giving informative God tours around the facility. I learned so much despite listening as I got my stamps in my passport, book and tokens, pens, and maps. We were shocked on how rich and just how old the Fort and Florida history is.

Very nice, clean visitor center. Park Rangers were knowledgeable about the Fort and shared interesting facts with us. They were able to answer all our questions. Nice gift shop. Restrooms were clean. Enjoyed the walking trails and beauty of the Fort. Great way to learn about history.

Great place to learn all about the Timucuan Ecological and Historical Preserve area! Spent some time walking around the museum and getting information from the park rangers! If you have a national park stamp book, definitely bring it as it has a stamp location here!

Nice NPS visitor center. Contained useful displays. Staff was good, worked with the kids. Wish it was a bit more organized, could use a model of the theorized fort/ settlement layout and a documentary film or audio would be helpful.

The nature trailer here I fantastic! A few hills to deal with which is a nice change from most of the parks in FL, but nothing too challenging. The shop and museum are a great stop and there is lots of information available inside.

  • Robert

Great place and staff for additional information about the park and surrounding area. Not real hard to find. Several nice attractions near by including hiking, nature observation, lookout area, exploration, etc. Plenty of parking.

  • Ellie Gordon

Great staff. Very knowledgeable about the area and the people who lived here. Great, well groomed trails and nice monuments. It was a fun place to learn about Jacksonville's history.

  • M Mercer

Staff were friendly and provided a lot of information about the area. Would definitely recommend stopping in and chatting them up, they have such a vast amount of knowledge to share.

  • Sarah A

Nice quiet spot to learn some history, go for a hike or a nice picnic. Take time to read the signs as the fort itself is not real since historians are unsure of exact location.

Visited Friday afternoon during the winter break holiday in December 2023, plenty of parking. • Staff amazing in shop and went out of their way to help answer questions for

incredible history in a gorgeous natural setting. knowlegable rangers, good trails, nice place to picnic on the water. lots going on in this quiet part of the state.

So much great information! We took a field trip with our Florida Master Naturalist Chapter. We were able to learn unknown facts about Ft. Caroline and the Timucuan.

  • Susan Mager

Great place to take a family walk! However, leave your dog at home! We took our dog (early November) and we removed at least 10 ticks from him after the walk.

  • Kyle Milbrand

Mix of ecological and historical information. The artifacts from Timicuan culture are especially interesting. The rangers were both informative and friendly.

  • Maritza Polanco
