Obnoxious manager with little regard for the visually impaired, I would go so far as to say he needs to be careful how he discriminates against people with disabilities. Visited the store to be 'greeted' by a man who wouldn't permit me entry until I had recited my shopping list as apparently shopping here has varying restrictions depending upon what you intend to purchase. When I informed him that I wished to look at books, I was told to follow the arrows towards the basement. Upon treading the stairs down to the basement, at precisely 5.20pm I was plunged into darkness. The lights went out and I asked a member of staff what time they were closing to which I was told half past five. I could not continue my visit since it was unsafe to walk in darkness for the remaining ten minutes of store opening. I promptly went back upstairs and asked the 'greeter' if I could speak to the manager. The 'greeter' was the manager. I complained about the darkness downstairs to which I was told that the council had given them consent to 'dim' the lights whilst customers were still in store shopping. I find this hard to believe. I then hear a staff member remark that I should remove my sunglasses in order to be able to see in the dark. These were prescription sunglasses, worn because a) I can't see clearly without them and b) because I suffer with migraines. These comments were completely ignorant and failed to take into consideration that a customer may have a valid reason for wearing sunglasses inside. This 'dimming of the lights' which was not a dim at all since it was an immediate change from light to darkness needs to be addressed. Why do so whilst customers are still browsing? What's more important, customer safety or customers being out the door ten minutes before you actually close and the interrogation of customers at the door by the manager needs addressing. Thankfully Waterstones and The Works were open and gave fantastic customer service so parted with my cash elsewhere.

This WHSmith is massive and it is the best place to buy magazines in Leicester. They sell loads of greetings cards, wrapping paper and a wide selection of gift cards. There is a big post office downstairs which does everything a post office can do. You can get currencies here at a decent rate too. Downstairs is where the books are and there are plenty of them, especially the children's section. The only reason I've given it 4 instead of 5 stars is that it could really do with a refurb, but perhaps if they leave it another couple of years it will be so old school in there that it will just automatically be cool.

So disappointed. Have rarely passed a Smiths without going in for a browse, but this afternoon I was refused admission because I didn't have a specific purchase in mind. I am happy to queue, to wear a mask etc but the shop was far from busy and I had gone into town specifically to support local shops that had opened. I'm quite furious about this. There is nothing that Smiths have that I can't get anywhere else, so in future that is what I shall do. If Smiths do not want my custom NOW, then they can do without it forever.

Came in on 3 different occasions over the last month, every time to be treated rudely by the post office staff. Always in a rush, trying to push you off to the self service desk and when you do have an question their always rude. Even had one of the staff members just take my phone to scan the QR code for my PLT parcel and talk to another staff member and not even utter an word to me the entire time until I asked for an copy of the receipt. Fast service but no care for customer service.

Wouldn't let me in at 5.20 pm even though it's supposed to close at 5.30 pm. Last time I looked the opening hours were not properly displayed in the front window and the basement was closed due to 'unforeseen circumstances'. Also, previously, lights on the stairs were dimmed nearing closing time (surely a breach of health and safety).

Wide selection of stationery. The staff are very helpful and friendly. In addition there is a post office in the basement. Great range of services, reliable. More expensive than 'the works' located across the road but whsmith publications are up to date whereas 'the works' are end of line reduced items mainly.

WHSmiths is going downhill fast. There was a time when most people used them and the choice was excellent. Now due to other retailers and online they don't seem to be able to keep up in the market. The fault of their directors and management staff. Soon IMO they will go the way of most other retailers.

Used the Post Office within, nice pleasant and helpful staff, nice quick service. The only thing its in the basement the rest is WHSmith brings back memories of starting school, with their range of stationary, books, magazines and games. Overall a nice quiet place on a Friday morning.

Great choice of books magazines and stationary. Everything you need in one place! The staff are friendly and helpful. The till service was quick. I would definitely recommend a visit for all those stationary essentials. Prices can be a bit high but I love having a wonder in WH Smith.

Wide selection of books, stationary, cards, etc. Staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is very soothing. Big plus is the fact that there's a post office in the bottom floor. You could spend hours here looking through all the wonderful things they stock. Do recommend

It always seems cluttered in there. It,s a pity that the post office is downstairs in the basement too. Difficult for pensioners to negotiate. There is a lift, but a lot of people don,t like lifts, there is an escalator to come up, why not have one to go down too?

  • Tori Jillings Trayford

Great store in the city centre with everything you might need. All manner of stationary and I recently purchased a Last Will & Testament pack which at £25 is a great deal cheaper than a solicitor would charge. Staff are friendly and always there to help.

  • Elliot Lewis

I frequently use the post office located at the bottom of the shop and the self service system is quick and easy and meand I can be in and out in no time. For anyone who may struggle with the machines, there are always staff on hand to help.

  • Arif Yasmin

How are they still in business? Far too expensive for what you get. The building and layout is random. Only went in to use the post office that is on the basement layer. They have been around for ages, but aren't keeping up with the times.

  • Jo Mc

The woman who was meant to help me has given me the wrong price for my driving license so I'm now expecting dvla to send it back. So thanks to your incompetence I've got to go through the whole rigmarole again

  • Inderjeet Gill

Mainly use the post office here, which has very helpful staff who can help resolve problems quickly. Upstairs staff are equally as helpful, but since the floor was rearranged it can be hard locating magazines.

  • Dawn Riddington

Great shop where you can still get some traditional things such as an old fashioned advent calendar which is what I wanted. Huge variety of greetings cards, magazines, books and stationery items. Lovely store.

  • Richard Adcock

Very shabby. Not what it use to be! Shop is unfriendly and crammed full of stands near to the exit tills. No wonder why more and more people order from Amazon as Smith's is not a nice retail experience.

  • Kieran W

Great selection, just seems very overpriced for what the products are, doesnt take much to go across the street and pick up most of the stuff they have on selection for purchase elsewhere much cheaper.

  • Mo gee

The manager David was extremely helpful. I was looking for specific items which were not on the shop floor. He went round the back and returned with the items. Top service!! Need more people like him

  • Aisha A

  • Kimbo Slereth

An ok place to just get on with your posting. However no one wants to interact, employees want all customers to use self service machines, prefered the old style post office set ups

  • Yannick Olivier Orounla

One of the largest and complete WHSmith store I know. They have everything you might expect ranging from office tools to snacks. There is also a post office at the lower ground.

  • M. Mathe

I don't spend a week or two without popping in. There is always something I need from there. Good service from the staff right down to the post office downstairs

  • Julian Worker

Having been out of the country for four years it's great to see a good newsagent on the high street selling books, magazines, and newspapers.

  • Trish Bromley

They have a post office, plus a decent selection of children's and adults' books and DVDs. Lots of artist materials, and stationery.
