Staff at this store are generally very friendly. The only problem I've ever had here involved an extremely rude night manager. I wanted to call my girlfriend to ask her if she needed me to pick anything up for her & to let her know that I was alright & would be home shortly but my cellphone had died. I plugged it into one of the outlets by the pharmacy waiting area & turned it on when the manager came around the corner & told me "this is not a hangout" so I politely began explaining my situation & held up my receipt & bag full of purchased items. She didn't seem interested in anything I had to say as she rudely interuppted me & told me to "get the hell out" of the store. I live just up the hill in Noe Valley & have been a loyal customer of this store for the last 20 years. I have seen many employees come & go but she is the only person I've ever had any issues with. I have not seen that particular manager working recently but I have not been in the store at night as often. Once I am certain she is no longer working there I will definitely change my review from 3 stars to at least 4.

I stopped by this Walgreens while I was in the Castro running errands to pick up 2 bottles of V8. I had to circle around because staff was blocking the isle and ignoring all the customers while they slowly stocked products. The cashier who helped me accidentally rang up 5 bottles because he wasn't paying attention. I noticed when I got the receipt, but he was already walking off the floor and wouldn't turn around when I called out for him. The other 2 cashiers wouldn't help me either, and after 5 minutes, had to remind them to call him back. After nearly 10 minutes he finally returned to refund the 3 extra bottles but didn't actually apologize. Worse, it's been 5 day and the original charge has hit my credit card, but the credit is no where in sight. I wish I could say this was the first time I had problems at this store, but there have been others. Frankly, the service at all the Walgreens in SF have gone way downhill, but this one is one of the worst!

I've used Walgreens at Castro and 18th for over 30 years. I love the feeling of community I experience when I pick up prescriptions and shop for my favorite sundries, always on sale at Walgreens. I have one complaint, I have selected this location every time I log into my account. I've used the Walgreens app as well as the Chrome browser, yet every time I log in, it auto selects the Stockton st. store as my selected location. I rarely use that location, and I never get my prescriptions at this location. Pls have your coders fix this. If you offer the ability to select a favorite store to pick up your prescriptions and interact with pharmacy, please keep that selected location as the preferred location. It's actually a chore to navigate around it. And my preferred store never pops up when I click the locate button . Even when I type in 498 Castro st., it's asks for a zip code? I don't live near that location, but that should not matter.

Today walgreen blew it beyond repair with the incredible rudeness of a male pharmacy employee wasting hours of my time and refusing to address my pharmacy need at all, let alone in a professional manner. I appreciate it’s a holiday and they are busy - but my life and my time are also important. This male pharmacy employee blew it with incredible disrespect and rudeness…as well as a failure to address the basic job function to provide pharmacy services for prescription; which is just as important as - if not more important than a bank’s fiduciary duty. This company needs to be accountable. There is no solving this. Boundaries were crossed and disrespected that can’t be addressed other than warning others to go elsewhere. This store has a dysfunctional, abusive employee who has no respect for the value of people’s lives. Don’t use this store if you can help it. They truly don’t care.

I’ve gone here regularly for a decade and frequented casually before that. I’m leaving a long overdue 5 star review. The people who work here are some of the nicest employees I’ve encountered. Rory is a staple and has gone above and beyond for myself and others -I once saw him hail a cab for a disabled customer off the clock- wow. The pharmacy with which I mainly deal is incredible. For such high volume they really make sure everyone is well attended to and are informed. Danilo is my favorite and such a warm face, I’m lucky every time I get him as a receptionist. For the problem of crazed and disorderly people in the area, security does a great job of remaining fair and cordial. The store is always clean. They may be seemingly short staffed sometimes, but their work ethic and helpfulness more than make up for it. Thank you all very much. See you soon!

By far the worst Walgreens in the Bay Area. The place is staffed by the branch of Phillipno Moffia and one can often see them chasing customers out of the store with baseball bats or macing customers that they believe have been browsing to long. They follow customers around the store and comment loudly slandering them so that other customers can hear. The poor little female Phillipno manager can not control her staff. The staff also smoke cigarettes out front and their macho attitude is not well received here in the Castro District. At one time the staff was diverse and helpful but now it’s just a group of Aisan gang bsngers that can be seen stealing items from the shelf’s and blaming customers. This store should be shut down and restaffed. People should complain to corporate office about it.

I never end up here except when I need late-night pharmacy services, so my opinions are colored somewhat by that. Fairly standard for this chain, a little cramped, but decent med-care products selection and a somewhat saner clientele than at the other 24hr pharmacies I've tried in the city. Walgreens' SF locations are noted for desultory customization of their window displays and inventory to their respective neighborhood, and this one has done what you'd expect for one on Castro street - if you need condoms and lube really badly and for some reason the eighteen other far better shops in the neighborhood were all closed due to freak accidents or something, this place has you covered.

Worst pharmacy department I have ever encountered. There is always some sort of problem with the prescription, they would have to call the doctor's office every-single-time I tried to get a prescription filled. Twice after waiting an hour they informed me that they did not even have the medication in stock and that I would have to be transferred to a different pharmacy. They also made comments and asked questions about my medications that they in no way were qualified to make or ask, very invasive and rude. I no longer take my prescriptions to this pharmacy.

100% of the time I try to fill a prescription here something goes wrong. Weather it be over the phone or in person I can never get my prescription fill on the first time I always have to wait at least 24 hours. I've been given misinformation from staff on multiple occasions and have been flat out lied to several time. I've also changed my name recently, brought that to their attention and even still get referred to by the wrong name. I never leave here anything but frustrated and I am a graveyard worker so this is one of my only options.

Denise is the best pharmacist ever. Love her. I’ve been a regular for years! That’s the thing I’ve been coming here for years up to 6 times a month! I have a chronic illness. I’ve been through it. At my peak of my sickness Denise was one of the only healthcare workers I actually cared to see! She treats me wonderfully and always helps me. I adore her. It’s a healthcare workers like her who are so amazing and deserve appreciation. Some do not deserve anything! but Denise definitely does. She is a wonderful person.

This Walgreens is opened 24 hrs and has everything you need but when we pressed the customer service button in one of the aisles, someone came to help us which was great but was not very helpful at all. My husband asked one question and the staff member answered the question and quickly ran off (not joking- she ran) once she answered the question but I didn't get a chance to ask anything as she ran off like the house was on fire. Lol Other than that, all other staff members have been nice.

My prescription was sent to this pharmacy yesterday. Since then the prescription was put on hold (they run out of penicillin!), I can't move the prescription to another pharmacy (I always get an error when trying doing this online), and however long I am waiting on the call it seems like the queue ahead of me wouldn't go down. I am out of options and out of medications. I don't know how to trust them in the future.

Wouldn't recommend. The workers there hate gays even though they choose to work in a gay neighborhood. I've heard them make derogatory comments about gays before. Every negative thing said here by other reviewers is true. They follow non-Asian customers around the store. The pharmacy is terrible and always has something go wrong. They don't answer the pharmacy phone. They are racist and will only hire Asians.

This particular location seems to be out of prescription meds frequently. My dad was in the hospital and they sent multiple prescriptions to this Walgreens prior to his discharge. I arrived hours after they received the orders only to be told they didn't have his insulin. Luckily the Walgreens over the hill came through or he would have had to wait until after the Memorial Day holiday.

This place rivals Disneyland for the slowest moving lines. Update: Okay, I found out why… they don’t actually have anyone’s prescription. Myself and 3 out of the 5 people before me had issues actually getting our prescriptions. I’m now at the back of the line and waiting in hell for another hour most likely. Update 2: two more people’s prescriptions were not available as we wait more.

  • Marie Fisher

One of the rare 24-hour Walgreens, making it a busy store where lines can stretch to the back of the store (though they move quickly). They have great customer service, though you may have to hunt someone down when you need assistance. Privacy is assured at the pharmacy all times. Tip: ask to be rung up at the cosmetics counter to avoid the long lines at the front registers.

Cashier was no help when I pointed out to him that the price tag on the shelf was one price and the price on the product was another and the price I was charged was a completely different price. Call the survey number and asked that I be contacted regarding this issue. It's been two weeks now and NO CALL YET. Another store that could care less about there customers.

  • Liz Street

Terrible service. After several years of going to this Walgreens I’m finally pulling everything out and going to CVS. So help me, every single prescription they mess up and I have to have my doctor call in refills for basic blood pressure medication every month. This place just sucks - and I keep giving it benefit of the doubt, but I’ve finally just had it.

Do not fill prescriptions here you will be blocked behind people trying to do lord knows what with non prescription purchases. FSA reimbursement for cheese its? Refunds? Bringing an entire shopping cart to the express pickup? Express pass does not speed up a damn thing. They do not respect it. 45 minutes to clear a 6 person line with 2 employees.

  • Steven Wakabayashi

Love the 24/hr pharmacy pickup (even in the middle of the night), but sometimes the lines get a bit long. The staff is always very helpful with insurance & securing the right meds. Tip: Manage your prescriptions on the app. You can automate your refills and check prescription status without having to call in.

The new store is great, but the staff aren't always the quickest on their toes. They try very hard, which is great, but sometimes I just want to get in and out, and not spend 20 minutes for you to try and figure out how to apply a 2 dollar coupon that isn't working.

  • Scott

One of the worst. Due to the local clientele, this Walgreens can't have a public bathroom. Therefore if you want to buy some takeout food or beverage, and you want to wash your hands, it's impossible. It's a filthy pit. Avoid this place like the plague.

  • Alan H

This Walgreens has been cleaned up over the years. Its now fairly clean and organized. Pharmacy is 24/7. No bathroom and parking is street only. There is a bigger Walgreens with better parking a few blocks away on Market St. at Church.

  • Ethrelinda Gomez

The night time lead pharmacy manager is rude and really doesn't explain things with care and sincerity. She needs to care about the people she consults and helps. I heard her being rude to others. I will never come back here again.

  • TS

One of the worst Walgreens locations I’ve ever encountered. Several times I’ve purchased food products from here, only to get home & find the products damaged or otherwise unfit for use.

  • Olivia Montesano

I don't know why this pharmacy doesn't have more people working. There is always a long line and 2 people tops. Help your staff out and give them some help!

  • Gabby Oglesby

Sometimes I wonder if Walgreens specifically seek out hires who are extremely rude for no reason. Doesn’t matter where you are in the country, all the same

  • Barry Schmell

Great pharmacy servicing the Castro neighborhood. Professional yet friendly customer-oriented staff. I've been coming here for 30+ years.

  • Marissa Noelle

This Walgreens rules. There’s a couple staff at checkout that are really kind and helpful and go out of their way to assist.

  • Sterling Gerard

Great location and very convenient location if you live in the downtown area of San Francisco. Great customer service.
