Lovely and cozy massive book store! The largest of its kind in the city Centre, and for a good reason. You'll be able to find any kind of books here, with entire shelves and rooms dedicated to all kinds of categories. From Visual novels and fiction to 'alternative history and magic' (??), there is a section here for everyone (including some extensive manga collection). There are board games, plushies, Harry Potter merch (of course), and other deals in the ground floor, a section dedicated to children upstairs, and one dedicated to science, medicine, etc. further above. Definitely a place to check out in a windy, cold and rainy day in the city for a short break to find your next favorite book.

Great place to choose your favourite reading. Chairs dotting around to break out a few chapters before rushing home to read. Thirsty work reading, wet your whistle with a very nice coffee, and good food. Staff are very helpful in making your visit pleasant. So. Why not 5 Stars? Back in the days of my visits, I would head straight to the computer section. 4 huge shelving cases, Linux was my speciality. Huge door stopper books. Maybe not much call today for such books.

My first time visit to this branch of Waterstones was today I have visited several other branches of the shop but I was taken aback by the sheer size of the place , whilst the ground floor seems large , there are 2 more floors which seem even larger than the ground floor. There are sections like children's books and science fiction + fantasy, which have a whole room dedicated to them , it is easy to spend a few hours browsing, well worth a look

Despite having Kindle and books on tape, I still prefer the feel and weight of a real book. I have anumber of authors who I will only read with a real book. I have a number of interests and hobbies and will buy books to learn about those. The Waterstones on Deansgate allows me to browse for my interests and drink coffee while I do it. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. The world seems to move a little slower here, and I like it.

Excellent and huge book shop right in the centre of Manchester with the usual relaxed Waterstones atmosphere. A small cafe on the top floor affords more space to sit and enjoy your purchases with a very good cup of coffee. I won’t be visiting *too* often because the temptation to buy armfuls of books is too great! Love it here.

It's a pleasure to go to Waterstones... there's a myriad of books, cards and gifts to choose from and the staff are kind and extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble. This extends up to the first floor Cafe which serves delicious savoury food and cakes. There's the benefit of a lift too. What's not to love. …

A great bookstore spread over 3 floors. However for a major store in the city centre the toilets are pretty awful. On the day we visited they were filthy and smelly with a tiny overflowing bin. They need cleaning more frequently and a major refurbishment. Really disappointed in this Manchester store.

Shame we lost the Borders chain. Waterstones is a good shop, but Borders had excellent magazine selections before it shut down, and Waterstones have not been bothered to fill that gap.

  • Andrew Gallagher

Great coffee shop peaceful place in the centre of Manchester for a quiet coffee. I've been a few times and it is usually quite busy but the atmosphere is still calming. Recommended.

As someone from the Borders era of bookstores, it was a breath of fresh air after nearly 20 years. While certain sections could offer more selections, enjoyed my visit immensely.

  • Alan Rait

Great selection of books and a quiet cafe area. Recommended. Another visit, week before Christmas 2023. As above, a great place to have a lite meal/snack out of the rush!

This was my first visit to this venue and it did not disappoint. I attended a Halloween Night lecture on Serial Killers. Great room, great staff, nice wine. Just lovely

The Deansgate branch is my favourite so far with its 3 large floors of books. But it needs more sit down areas and more staff around the floors to assist customers.

  • Danielle Wardle

Incredible space, a huge range of books, but lack of A/C was painful in the May heat. Feel extremely sorry for those not working in the cafe (only cool place).

  • David Green

Waterstones are by far the best for choice and range of reading material. If they haven't got what you want, let them know and they'll get it in for you.

  • TJAR

Fabulous huge book store over 3 floors, with a decent upstairs coffee-shop. Late night opening till 7pm some nights. Browse to your hearts content ♥
