I was looking online for a relaxing place to stay where I could run a bath and read a book. I found this property through some travel blogs and then booked via Expedia. I want to share my experience as now that my stay is over I do feel duped and I hope that this review helps people avoid the situation I found myself in. - Pulling up to the property was confusing as there was no signage indicating that this was the Westmount River Inn... or even that this place was a business of any sort. The surrounding properties were in disrepair, and looked like they had recently been broken into as their were smashed windows. The front door of the "Inn" was locked and there were two doorbells. I had no idea which one to ring or how to get in. - The door was opened for me, I was asked to remove my shoes in the house, and handed my phone to a woman so she could check the reservation. - I declined the welcome drink, as we had plans to check-in and then go for dinner. I was handed a warm bottle of water anyways. That's the welcome drink, by the way, if you're booking on Expedia and see "welcome drink" listed under amenities. It's a room temp of water. - She sat down on the chair in my room and pulled out a notebook and began writing down my name and contact information. There was no check in desk, no printed forms or waivers. -There was no air conditioning in the house, the windows in my room were open and the smell of cigarettes was wafting in. -I had brought my own snacks and drinks, there was no mini fridge, but there was a wine fridge hiding behind a potted plant. -The room had no additional lock on the interior side of the door. As a woman, I rely on these to have a good nights rest. Additionally, the doors to my room were glass! They had just been painted over with chalk paint. - After dinner I returned to my room to relax. I turned on the TV and could only find two channels with programming other than just music. - The bathroom had used shampoo and soap bottles. I have stayed in hostels, Airbnb's, bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, and tiny homes. I even stayed in a lodge where the bedding was literally hammocks. I'm not picky. But I do like to know what I'm booking. I genuinely did not know that this was a room in someone's private house. This property should be rented out via Airbnb (even there I'm not sure their business practices would meet there standards). It should not be listed as a 4 star hotel. If it's a bed and breakfast it should be appropriately advertised. The amenities should be made clear, and the missing amenities (AC in mid July) should be noted as well. I paid hotel prices for someone's master bedroom. I feel duped. I did not complain to the property owners during my stay, I felt exposed and uncomfortable complaining to somebody about their home during my stay there. However, I will be following up with Expedia about a refund. This experience was extremely disappointing and a waste of my time and money. This property is overpriced, outdated, and poorly managed. If the business owner is reading this please consider making some serious changes to how you present.

NOT worth the cost! Room was nice, bed and pillows comfortable but lacking basic amenities like good towels, in room coffee, Kleenex, lotion, clock, safe, make up mirror, etc. They left half used shampoos for us to use. It was also very dusty and made my allergies flare up. Luxury king room had a frosted glass French door you could see through from the hallway right into bedroom, very weird! If someone turned the hallway light on it was as if they turned on our rooms light. Lots of road traffic if you're there at a time when you'd like the windows open. Not a hotel, it's a bed and breakfast. They don't clean or freshen your room at all during your stay! Photos are misleading as entire main floor is cluttered with families personal items. Living room pictured in ad is full of junk and unusable. In fact entire first floor is unusable to guests. It's May and they still had Christmas decorations up in the kitchen. Backyard was also a cluttered, unusable mess. NOT like photos. Breakfast was a pre-made microwaved omelet, fruit, and a really stale cinnamon roll. Coffee was good. John never smiled and Kim never seemed dressed & presentable. They speak to each other in Vietnamese in front of guests when though their English is good. I will not be staying there again. If you book just be aware of what you are getting, or in this case what you are not getting.

WARNING : Avoid this place. False representation, it is not a hotel it is a private home. It stinks like hell, the owner of the property is a fraud. There is no parking on the property. Street parking and they claim free parking. They took our money and would not refund our money as we booked a hotel not a home considering the name they post. It is not an INN nor a hotel and they call it 4 star hotel, I would not give it a single star. AVOID. I would not be surprised that it has all false reviews posted by their friends and relatives as most of the good reviews have been posted around the same time. They are ripping people off and taking advantage of their situation and false representation . Plz don’t get carried away with the photos posted. I am surprised how come Expedia is having this garbage private property posted on their website as a hotel. This place will take your money and will not refund your money if u find that it is not a hotel and what u paid for. They charged me more than $600 for 2 nights which we did not stay and did not refund our money and were not will to take calls from Expedia for a refund. When I gave my phone to the owner ( I guess John ) that Expedia would like to speak to them he lied on my face to Expedia that he is not John . Total FRAUD

This is a very expensive private property to stay at. This is a house and it needs some work. Overall the experience was very disappointing, we had a suite and the bed was comfortable but the shower came out rusty and was not clean. The “hotel provided” soaps were large (used) bottles of Irish spring and head and shoulders. Our room had an adjoining room that had a bicycle lock wrapped around the handles as the lock between the rooms. We were given a basement room that was cold with no room temperature control and a very thin blanket. In the morning you hear everything going on in the house above you so it was hard to sleep once others started to get up. We also made a computer error when we booked through Expedia and booked for the wrong day. The owners would not offer a refund or allow us to change to a later date and blamed us for a loss of clients even though the mistake was more than a week away and we tried to get ahold of them immediately after the mistake was made. It took 2 days for a call to reach someone at the property and no one is regularly available.

The owners make you feel welcome as a guest, in return you only admire the beautiful residence. We stayed in the King Room and it was very convenient with kitchen counter, fridge, and suite bathroom/shower. The location is great with easy access to Kensington area and downtown. Pedestrain/bike/escooter trails are readily accessible. Lot's of amazing food, coffee and drink choices close by. The rooms are fully air-conditioned. The road noise can be a bit noisy at times, but the room seals off well and even with a couple windows cracked, the room itself dampens noise. Which isn't surprised considering the great quality of craftsman woodwork that is a core part of the interior decor and furnishings. Bathrooms were nice with great shower setup. Suite toilet was slightly wobbly. Not really the space to do business work, as the table is a bit smallish. The space is more conducive to watching shows on your laptop, checking web, relaxed type of tasks. Make sure to register your car so you can park out front. Will stay again!

was advertised as free parking very hard to find parking spot. was told air conditioning was broken should of had a major discount very hot to sleep. should not be advertised as 4 star without air conditioning. covid is not a good excuse to charge 4 star prices for a room too hot to conferably sleep. was told they were working on the air conditioning but other reviews show its been down all summer, completly unexceptable . bathroom and jet tub were nice. lots of things like the fire place and steam shower did not work. defently too expensive and false advertised. also it would have been nice to had more than one set of keys so me and the girlfriend could both acsess the room. the woodwork was nice but the uncomfortable hot and aminities in the room that were broken or did not work really took away from the experience. the portable air conditioner in the stairwell should have been inside the bedroom.

WARNING: This is a private home in a residential neighborhood facing a highway. I did not feel safe in this home as a woman travelling on my own. I had to be let in by calling a man living and working there who was creepy. My bedroom door did not lock securely (there was only a doorknob lock on one of the french doors that could be simply pushed open). There was religious paraphernalia decorating the house throughout (crucifixes, Virgin Mary). I had booked a 5-night stay, and when I tried to cancel immediately, after realizing I could not sleep there, I was told there were no refunds, no matter what. I had three friends who were staying elsewhere come and check it out, and they said they would never feel safe staying there. Even though I had to eat the cost, I moved out and paid to stay somewhere I felt comfortable and safe.

*NOT* a traditional hotel, but a genuine gem! Yes, the owners asked us to remove our shoes at the door, yes it is literally their home. Not really bothersome, and in my case (I'm half Filipina and also take my shoes off in my house) a welcome change. The home itself is beautiful, filled with rich, gorgeous woodworking that I was told was custom, done by one of the home owners himself. The room was spotless and welcoming, and my boyfriend and I were even offered some delicious biscotti on the first day. The innkeepers/homeowners are INCREADIBLY kind, and if you want a nice treat, please stay here! (Also, there's just a lot of shops and whatnot nearby. Not necessarily walking distance for myself as a disabled woman, but not more than a 5 minute drive. I recommend the Oxbow for dinner!)

This is a very special inn in the Kensington neighbourhood of Calgary. Because there are only approximately 4 or 5 rooms, the house feels very homey from the minute you enter. The woodwork in the inn has been handcrafted by the co-host John and I have never before seen such a beautiful wood interior right down to the subtle maple leaves inlaid into the floors. These folks care about their house and more importantly about their guests. John and Kim, the hosts, couldn't do enough for us, from making us feel welcome to trying to accommodate most of our requests. Our King suite was totally lovely (fabulous bed) and frankly we would absolutely stay there again were we able to secure a room. Thank you John and kim. You have created a very special guest house!

FALSELY ADVERTISED. Not a hotel but advertised as one. No amenities in the rooms other than a fridge. Everything was dusty and the bedding had stains on it. The common area coffee maker had moldy grounds in it the first morning we were there, needless to say we didn't have any. They also refused to serve food even though we had our documentation to participate in the COVID exemptions program. Definitely not something you would expect for the price, they should be on AirBNB not Expedia claiming to be a 4 star hotel.... They trick you into booking then tell a sob story about how this their only way to support themselves due to an injury. Maybe sell your $2.2 Million home and downsize?

We stayed 2 nights in the "economy room" (August 11 & 12). The room is very spacious with a modern large bathroom/shower. The place is clean and comfortable. We were checked in by a person who was very friendly and helpful. The neighbourhood is great with nice local shops, cafes, and coffee shops within 500m. To get 4 or 5 stars from us they need to: paint the room, put a dressing mirror in the room, put a small fridge and small kettle in the room. A small desk and chair would be nice as well. The price was fair and overall we were very pleased with the accommodation, staff, and hosts. We would stay here again without hesitation.

This place is truly a hidden gem of Calgary. Overlooking the bow river, this gorgeous B&B is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. The room we had was the one with the air jet tub and it was enormous. The supersized king bed was so comfortable! Kim and John were fantastic hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was an omelette with toast and fresh fruit as well as biscotti for our coffee. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a place to stay in Calgary to check them out!

So I used to reside in Calgary. And now I am here for a visit. Westmount Inn was available right away and is conveniently placed within the quarters of Kensington and downtown. Some say it's too expensive for what they have to offer. But what they offer is a lavish home designed and maintained by the Kim and John. It is very quiet and respectful, accommodating and flexible home. No hassle and I personally am floored by the paintings placed in the home created by John. I will recommend this spot to my friends and family - and to anyone who enjoys a home away from home.

We loved our stay here. It was clean and our room was gorgeous. Nice woodwork and a very luxurious bathroom with hottub and massage shower. The owners, Kim and John, are incredibly friendly and will make sure you have everything you need. It is also their home, so it feels more like a B&B. They gave us fresh lychee and sesamesnacks for the flight back home. The location is great. Short walk to Kensington district with shops and restaurants and right next to the river. No noise from outside was heard. I would recommend staying here for sure.

  • leah goldford

This was a beautiful gem of a place, close to downtown and to the trendy shops of Kensington. Our room, king bed with balcony and fireplace, was beautifully appointed. The gleaming wood throughout the. Reclaimed home was gorgeous and a testament to the hosts skills. The hosts were warm and friendly. While we couldn’t take advantage of the breakfast as it wasn’t kosher, the smell of the food awoke our tastebuds. A thoroughly enjoyable place and we would stay again. Next time I would book directly and save the hosts the booking fees.

We stayed at this beautiful, welcoming , Inn In view of bow river , for 7 wonderful days and the hosts , John and Kim were just wonderful and accommodating. The king room was just spectacular. The whole place was beautiful, to the wood floors to the beautiful paintings and awesome breakfasts. We were very happy staying here. There were always snacks and drinks available at all times. We are definitely coming back and it’s definitely must see!

My husband and I stayed at the Westmount River Inn for 2 nights last week and we just loved it. Centrally located we had easy access to downtown. Their beautiful home is inviting, warm and tastefully decorated. Our room was just fantastic with a Tempurpedic king bed, fluffy pillows, fireplace and a wonderful bathroom with a rain shower. Breakfast was served in the morning and it was delicious. We will definitely stay there again on our next visit to Calgary. This is the best bed and breakfast in Calgary!

Calgary Gem I stayed at this beautiful home and totally enjoyed. John told me he built this home with his own hands before his back injury. Unbelievable workmanship. I truly enjoyed looking at the paintings that he has done. He should be selling them they are that good. I will be staying here next time I’m in Calgary. I would recommend this place for anyone wishing to have an experience. There are rooms for every budget. John is interesting to talk to about his life’s experiences. Very obliging hosts.

  • Rhacel Parrenas

This is a fraudulent business that is nothing but an Airbnb that rents out private rooms in their private home in a non-commercial area of Calgary. They should not be claiming the place as a business. First sign - there is no signage outside the place. Second sign - no shoes allowed. WHEN DID A BUSINESS EXCEPT IN JAPAN EVER HAVE NO SHOES ALLOWED. The prices they charge is way too much for what they offer. Private room in private home - this place is nothing more than that.

Our stay was very comfortable and left nothing to be desired. The rooms were clean and beautiful, breakfast was fresh, snacks, drinks, ice and water bottles were always available. We were made to feel welcome and at home, the hosts let us know that if we need anything we could let them know at any time. Great and central location !

The Inn was a treat after staying in large lodges in Jasper and Banff. The decor was lovely and the cleanliness perfect. The location allowed parking and nearby restaurants. The innkeepers are very warm and kind, ready to fill out every need. We arrived on a very hot afternoon and Kim offered to make us watermelon smoothies.

cunning owners, according to Google map this is a hotel, but in reality you live like in some kind of hostel, it was paid until the 3rd, we moved out on the 1st, $100 was not returned for the difference in days and when we moved out, we had to clean... I don’t recommend it, there are a lot of other places that are cheaper, overpriced and unjustified
