I recently visited Whataburger with high hopes of enjoying a delicious breakfast meal, only to be met with an appalling level of customer service and a refusal to serve breakfast before 11 a.m. I must say, my experience was nothing short of disappointing. Let's start with the customer service, or rather the lack thereof. The staff at this particular Whataburger seemed disinterested and indifferent towards customers. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a barely audible mumble from an employee who seemed more focused on chatting with their coworkers than attending to customers. The lack of attentiveness and basic courtesy was evident throughout my visit, with employees seemingly annoyed by simple requests and offering minimal assistance. To make matters worse, despite being within the breakfast serving hours (or so I thought), I was informed that breakfast would not be available until 11 a.m. It was just a few minutes past 10:30 a.m., and I couldn't understand why they were unwilling to serve breakfast. When I inquired about it, the response I received was curt and unhelpful, leaving me feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. What bothered me most about this experience was the blatant disregard for customer satisfaction. As a customer, I expect to be treated with respect and to have my needs met within reasonable expectations. Whataburger's refusal to serve breakfast before 11 a.m., despite it being well within the designated breakfast hours, was simply unacceptable. If there are specific time restrictions, they should be clearly communicated to customers to avoid any confusion or disappointment. As someone who has frequented other Whataburger locations and enjoyed their breakfast offerings, I was genuinely surprised and let down by this particular visit. It is essential for any establishment, especially a fast-food chain known for its breakfast menu, to prioritize customer satisfaction and provide a consistent level of service across all locations. Unfortunately, this Whataburger fell far short of that expectation. In conclusion, my experience at Whataburger was marred by abysmal customer service and a refusal to serve breakfast before 11 a.m., even during the designated breakfast hours. I hope that Whataburger takes note of this review and works towards improving their customer service and ensuring that their policies are clear and consistent across all of their establishments. As for me, I will think twice before considering Whataburger as a breakfast option in the future.

I broke a lot of my own rules by writing this review. First one being that I don’t eat at chains while traveling and second being I don’t usually do reviews on chains. Since this is a regional chain I figured it was worth a review to tell people if they don’t have a Whataburger where they live and they are close to one when they travel they should check it out. I original came here for lunch on a day I had a massive hangover after a long night on the Riverwalk. I got a double cheeseburger and a water. That cheeseburger ended up being the exact right thing I needed at the exact right time. It took a lot of self control to not immediately get another one but I knew two would make me feel sick. The craving never subsided so I came back the next day and got the exact same order. The double cheeseburger costs $7.95 which seems reasonable to me. It’s pretty big and filling. There is lots of seating at this location and it can get pretty busy since it’s a stones throw from the Riverwalk. There’s signs posted that the bathroom is for customers only. If you think you’re smarter than the signs, like I did, and I saw many other people try, they are locked by a door code that is printed on the receipt you get when you buy something. All in all a great burger. It seems like there’s a riff between In and Out loyalists and Whataburger loyalists. I just like a good burger. I don’t care who makes it.

First time visiting Texas and was told it is one of the To-Dos. Not sure what I was expecting, maybe something more fast casual that just fast food. Burger was good (Has no ketchup or mayo. Only has mustard so be warned to request changes if that's not your style), wife got a chicken salad and enjoyed it, kids burger for my daughter was decent too. She ate as you'd expect from a 2 year old lol. Would go again, but probably would rank it even with Wendy's or burger king.

Parking
Location is on a busy street corner downtown San Antonio. There really isn't anywhere to park. We parked at a public lot about a 10 min walk away. However, it's near the river walk so that made the walk more pleasant.
Kid-friendliness
Brought our daughter (2 yrs old) and she loved the Christmas decor and big blow up wiener dog dressed as Rudolf. Kids burger was fine.
Wheelchair accessibility
Ground floor; no stairs; big doors; two people using wheelchairs entered the store, ordered, and ate without difficulty.

The employees, especially Bel, are all great. But unless you want every homeless person on Commerce St to ask you to buy them food while you try to eat, take your food to go. I don't mind buying someone a sandwich, but some get pushy and want two or three and it makes me uncomfortable because I can't really afford that. They also will follow you to the bathroom so they can sneak in behind you without the code to get in, which you can only get if you buy something. This usually only happens in the morning, not at lunch or dinner time. Not everyone gets asked to buy food or followed to the bathroom. Maybe I just have a friendly face. So your experience may vary. I don't want to scare anyone away, but you should know what you are getting into.

Unfortunately they messed up my order twice. First was last night and I called about it and complained. There was no manager for the night shift so when I went in person this morning I talked with a manager. Instead of doing a refund they made me order another meal and it was comped but the meal was wrong again. I didn't want to complain again so I gave it to a homeless person waiting outside. Order item wrong first time: Grilled chicken Cobb but has no grilled chicken (see picture) Order item wrong second time: Breakfast burger with sausage when I requested no pork or any meat. I also was given a lot of attitude for bringing it to their attention. They seemed stressed out and annoyed, possibly because of lack of support from upper management. Just my 2 cents.

If you have a large family and expect to save a buck taking them to this location, no it's not going to happen will still end of costing almost the same at eating a restaurant, very busy on weekends, staff over worked, service wasn't horrible, staff wasn't ether, forgot part of our order but with the amount of work they had I understood, Pass on this location on weekends! I was told that this was yummy! It did not disappoint! There was a long line at lunch that took some time to work thru and now I know why! I had the bacon cheeseburger, fries and onion rings and devoured it all. The burger was very good. The fries are like McDonald's but better if that's possible. I would definitely go back! I liked it.

After seeing the reaction to the Whataburger float in the Battle of Flowers parade in San Antonio, I had to check this place out for myself. Tried the Dr. Pepper shake (amazing), the onion rings (right on the money) and an apple pie (flaky and sweet). The store was crazy busy because of Fiesta, but the staff behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. My order got a little lost in the mayhem, but they recovered and I had more time for people watching and checking out all the festive decorations. Best find? The spicy ketchup!!

First time here and was not pleased with the service. My son kept going up to ask if the order was ready because everyone who came after us got their order already. He said he felt the girl at the counter was getting annoyed and started to ignore him. I decided to go up and was able to explain we ordered a long time ago and we finally got the order. I do believe since my son is younger, she blew him off. No cool at all. Also, the Cobb salad was half full compared to other restaurants I order from and the employees don't even say excuse me they just try and squeeze by if they walk in front of you while you're waiting in line.

Dined in Saturday, Aug 12,2023. Our food order was taken wrong, food was brought out Luke warm and didn't match the order. The tables and floors were filthy. A youth decide to scream off the top of his lungs trying to get attention. I will never go back to that location. There was loitering outside of that What A Burger and lots of undesirables.

I stopped into this location downtown while I was waiting for a movie. I thought it was going to be too busy based on the line; however, the staff was taking orders very quickly and getting the food out just as fast. I used the online order from their mobile app. My food was still brought to my table as if I had ordered at the register. Absolutely everything on my complicated order was made to perfection. The staff was very friendly and courteous. The restaurant was decorated for the holiday/time of year. I really enjoyed my visit here. Next time I’m downtown, I’ll certainly keep this location in mind.

Well it does not live up to the name. Service was just bad. The cashier only asked us what we wanted and what sauces, after that she just walked away and left us standing unsure of what to do. So I grabbed the receipt, and stepped aside. The burger was smaller than the oversized bun, all of the toppings were piled in the middle. I had a bacon burger and took 5 bites before finding the bacon. The fries were not hot, more cold. Overall if you are desperate eat here if not there are a lot more good restaurants in the area.

Quality has taken a nosedive in the past year. The bread always tastes stale, and the sandwiches thrown together sloppily. A zoo of activity from loud drunk messy crowds at all hours. A last resort if you have to eat downtown on a 24hr schedule.

For it being whataburger at a later hour service was pretty fast. Seemed a little dirty but again it was around 1am. NY friends had to drive around the block since there isn't any parking and it's on a main street.

Atmosphere is about what you would expect in a fast food joint BUT.... the food and service were amazing. We walked from our hotel to this location in need of a late night snack. I specifically wanted fries and a chocolate milk shake. They were not currently serving milkshakes BUT Ariana went out of her way to make sure I got what I wanted. She was so kind and made the walk in my high heel boots totally worth it!

If I could give this place 0.5 stars I would. An absolute dump of an establishment that smells like homeless persons. Untidy and the bathrooms are disgusting. Order took nearly 30 minutes and many of time there is no cashier at the front counter. Homeless persons walking in and out. Saw one literally spit on the welcome mat to enter the restaurant. Food was ok but overrated. This place is the equivalent of eating at a public toilet.

Went 9/5/21 around 08:45 for some breakfast. I ordered the #25 with sausage and jalapeño cheddar biscuit. I ordered to go and the order was given to me as a dine in. I asked the worker to make it to go and 5 minutes later I get my food, all I needed was a bag. I get to work to now feed myself before my day starts and what do I see? The hardest biscuit in America. You could drive nails with this dang thing. Whataburger, you really have fallen far. Sad days we live in.

We were told that Whataburger is a must visit when going to Texas, and so have to say I was a bit disappointed with our experience. This downtown location wasn’t in the best shape, as far as cleanliness goes. The food was okay, I ordered cheese on my burger (paid extra for it) and the burger came out with no cheese. The fries were okay tasting as well. I don’t think I’d get a burger at this chain moving forward.

We don't have Whataburger where I'm from. But I wish we did. It was very good, fast and very affordable. I also love the fact that it's open 24 hours. I especially loved the onion rings. I had a regular Whataburger and my wife had the patty melt. She also enjoyed it very much.

Worst fast food experience ever. I waited 20 minutes in line before it started moving. Then waited a half hour to get the food. People inside were using mcdonalds cups to get pop. Bathroom was closed. Homeless outside that you can't control but when they make a mess and the manager walks out and sees it and just leaves it. That's bad. Never go back to this place again.

So it was my birthday day week and I was broke and drunk all at the same time. Sounds like a Sia song! Nevermind that I needed food and there was a bunch of cops waiting to catch a fool for a PI. Whataburger downtown San Antonio is a little ruff but it be the most affordable burger and union rings on the River Walk. Hamburger, large onion rings, and large root beer $11.39. Another night not in handcuffs, Priceless! For everything else there's Whataburger.

First timer here! Decided we could not leave TX without trying whataburger and guess what? It did not disappoint! I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries, the meal was brought to the table nice and warm. As a lifelong DR Pepper lover, I ordered the shake. It is vanilla based with a hint of Dr Pepper, tasty! The ingredients tasted fresh, much like In N Out and Culver’s, delicious in their own right. Will visit again when in the south/southwest.

Most ill prepared Whataburger that I have seen. Only 1 counter open, for the "Rush", while next door to a busy bar. The contracted security guard only added to the slowness by flirting with staff in the open part of the kitchen that everyone can see. This is not the Whataburger service that I am use to. I can only guess how Tourist weekends are. Good luck!

They have a lot of space at such a prime location...what schoked me was the inefficiency of the whole process. Staff was working very hard to fill the orders...and still there were long queue whereas the restaurant was barely 20% full. The associate taking the order was also seen bringing orders to the table. A lot of room to improve the efficiency of the operations.

I’ve been to a lot of Whataburgers around Texas, but this was by far the best. The food was hot and fresh and I asked for well-done bacon and they delivered. My son said his tortilla for his bacon, egg and cheese. Taquito was very flaky, and he loved it. The staff was very nice and professional and there was a gentleman washing windows and tables, keeping it clean.

What corporate garbage. Typical pull the pattie that was cooked earlier in the day out of a warmer and throw it on a bun. Dry as h*** Not hot barely warm. 1st time at Whataburger and last. What low standards. Edit: Sorry I couldn't leave it at that. Management should be ashamed to put out a product like I had today. I challenge corporate to send someone to anonymously purchase lunch here.

I ended up going to my hotel and ordering it. The food was tasty, but they didn't send my drink. Staff at the hotel said they're notorious for not sending the drink with delivery orders, and this was confirmed a few days later by a delivery driver who said he asked specifically for my drink. Seems intentional. That's why I rated the service as two stars.

So I finally got a chance to see what all the fuss was about. I have to say, it was pretty good. The burger was above average, but what sets it apart are the toppings. The tomato was ripe and juicy. The lettuce was crisp. Pickles and onions were good too. The fries were pretty good as well. I actually agree with all of the hype. I will definitely try to hit them when I can.

I don’t think I will ever give Whataburger less than 5 stars. It’s really a treasure of Texas culture. This one was very slick and smack in the middle of the city. It did seem like they were understaffed so the order line took forever. The food came out fast however. Great fast food. No complaints.

We tried this Whataburger one evening for a late dinner, we were greeted quickly and the cashier got our order and read it back to us to make sure it was correct. The food came out quickly but the fries were cold, the cashier fixed it with no issues. The restaurant was fairly clean. Had quite a few dirty tables and no paper towels in the bathroom. We would return again.

Good service, and the burger is a notch better quality compared to its competitors like Jack In The Box or McDonald's. I had the A1 Thick and hearty burger which was nothing sort of fantastic. 4 stars because my onion rings were burnt pretty bad, and even though they eventually replaced it, it left a bitter taste in my mouth (pun intended).

The staff girls taking orders at the front counter are very rude! Quick to take your money but cant even smile or thank their guest for coming in. The burger I ordered also came with onions that were the size of rocks, cut very large, couldn't even enjoy the taste of my burger. Will not come here and spend money again!

I went around midnight they had a bit of a line when I showed up, but everyone's food, including my own, came out quick. The meals I ordered were fresh & delicious! Would dine in again

The place is big. The food is the same with other franchises. Not sure if they have a public restroom since I just stayed in my seat. The crew is friendly and very helpful. It is also downtown so you could just stop here for a quick bite. The food is not good if it is already cold so better eat it while it is hot.

  • Jackie Gonzales

Not very clean. Most of their equipment had trouble functioning and they took over 10 minutes to bring a small order. I had to remind them of it, so I think they forgot completely

After walking a mile while the sun was getting hotter to a restaurant that turned out to be closed for the day, we popped into the tried and true. I never had the breakfast burger but it really hit the spot.

Had to try it for the first time since so many people talked about how great it was. I enjoyed the fries more than the burger. But it is something I could come back to. Tracey was awesome and really sweet.

Big whataburger, close to the riverwalk. We were staying on the river, so it was just a short 4 minute walk from our hotel. We waited a long time for our food, but they weren't busy. When we got back to the hotel I realized they left part of our order out, so I had to go back.

Y'all are always the T. Always efficient and keep my business rolling. At my short wait I noticed a young man doing sidework I never would have wanted to do. Thoroughly cleaning the plastic trays with Saniwipes. Even a perfect score from the health department...100.

Not gonna say much other than there was a long red hair in the burger and the cheese was dry from the corners like if it was old.

Got the #2 with double cheese and all the fixings meal with fries and a drink. They deliver it to your table and you have to ask for napkins and ketchup. Make sure to try the spicy ketchup with your fries.

My first visit to Whataburger. Big restaurant in the heart of the downtown. Very fast service- the staff was so sweet and friendly, tasty sandwiches and yummy apple pie . Cons: the tables were messy, only negative!!!!!! Love from Seattle!

6:30pm and is stale bread normal now at the W? Justaburger is just that, with mustard. I still ate it, so there is that.

They are always short staffed. The orders take long to come out. Cashier leaves the front frequently and leaves the counter area with a long line then the order itself takes 20-30 mins to come out.

This is what Texas is all about. We don't rave about In N Out Burger, but rather about Whataburger. Great downtown location at any hour. We tried the limited time breakfast sandwich burger. OMG. This would be great about 2am!

If you get chicken tenders ask for two gravies because they only fill up the cups half or less. Everything else was great.

Had to see what the Texas hype was about. Overall I would say 7/10, but with the spicy ketchup I bumped it up to 8/10. The workers were super friendly, but it did take about 10 minutes to bring out the food.

There was only three people working and everyone was taking their sweet time. The line was long and no one seemed to be in a rush. Fries didn’t seem fresh either.

It was terrible, I will never return. I had it many times and after yesterday I'll never go back. The service was terrible and the people sitting at the other table received the wrong order.

What can I say about Whataburger. It was a burger dream come true. Good menu, wonderful friendly helpful service. Definitely a must on a trip to San Antonio.

I get the jalapeño cheeseburger. It was ok, but not more. Fries are ok so far and the lemonade is ok. But, no napkins, not so clean, …

The beef doesn't taste good, like before. I seriously think their meat is now genetically produced, or horse meat
