Gourmet pizzas are the way to go at this restaurant. The crust is very thin so the toppings are the highlight. The Nona Mela was amazing; the chicken has a bite to it, and the apple butter is a unique flavour. The cheddar for me didn't add much, and it could be improved with a creamer cheese, but it was still great. Our second pizza was a Campagne, the tomato sauce is chunky and tangy, the double smoked bacon is like dice sized pieces of prosciutto. We also had caesar salad, it was okay. It is tangy more than creamy like a Renee's. The croutons are crunchy and delicious. I also had the salmon vivace, which was excellent. The salmon was not overcooked, which is unusual at a restaurant. This is our 4th visit, and so far, everything has been excellent. This is a family-friendly good eatery. Dinner for 4 will run you $120-$150.

Parking
There are parking spots nearby, but you might need to circle around the block. There is paid underground parking right around the corner for $2 for 30 minutes. There's lots of spots, but there are height restrictions. The street parking is within one block, $2.75 for 2 hours.
Kid-friendliness
There are 3 dining areas, the main restaurant, the front patio, and the back patio. Kids can easily move around, and there are highchairs if needed.
Wheelchair accessibility
The front patio and main restaurant are accessible but the bathrooms are down a steep flight of stairs. I'm unsure if they have special accommodations for those who need it.

We originally ordered take out, but ended up staying to eat at the restaurant. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I loved the atmosphere of the place. You could watch the people make your pizzas and the art and brick walls makes you feel homey. We tried the Pesce Alpino: pan seared artic char on sweet pea and pancetta risotto with fennel caponata. I liked all the elements separately. The risotto was creamy and delicious. The fish had tomatoes and other stuff on top, but it did not taste like a cohesive dish. The fish was overcooked and whatever they put on top of the fish did not make it taste better. The fish and risotto should be served separately or remove whatever they put on top of the fish. I did like the little greens they added on top, as it added some freshness to cut through the creaminess of the risotto. I would order the risotto again, but would ask to remove those tomatoes. I did mix it in with the risotto and it did taste better, but still altogether, it was not a cohesive dish. We also ordered two pizzas. It was good, but pretty expensive for very little ingredients and the size of the pizza. We made our own with mushrooms, arugula, and truffle oil. The size of the pizza is really meant for one person or as an appetizer for 2 people. For two pizzas, it was about $40. I didn't think it was worth the money. Maybe we should've ordered one that they make? My coworkers swore by their pizzas, so I'll give it another chance. Lastly, we ordered their lemon tarts. It automatically came with two tarts and I really enjoyed them. It was creamy and sour, but with the blueberry, it was perfect! All in all, I would come back again and try other items on the menu.

5 of us arrived for dinner on a Saturday. It was BUSY but the squeezed us in as long as we were out before the next reservation (which still gave us plenty of time). Out server throughout was friendly and attentive despite seeming very busy. Our table ordered a few pizzas, all which seemed to be enjoyed. I had THE MOST AMAZING SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD. It was a heaping plate of wood fired veggies and an amazing mascarpone whip. I also added chicken. Yes, it was a little pricey but SO worth it!!! Overall a great experience, and amazing ambiance. I would definitely return!

We found street parking after searching about 5-10 minutes. Parking was free after a certain time (maybe 5pm or so) and we only paid for an hour of parking. They have little kiosks you pay from.

It was an overall pleasant experience however our first impressions were very poor. Upon arriving, the girls at the front were very sweet but their system seemed a bit disorganized. We told them we had a reservation and they looked for our name on their list which seemed to be pen scribbled on a piece of receipt paper. They told us they couldn’t find our name on their list but that if we waited a few minutes they would get a table ready for us. While waiting, we noticed that they kept this makeshift list in a tree outside the restaurant, which also had a bunch of their cleaning supplies. They were very friendly but the disorganization of the restaurant left a bad first impression. Give the poor girls a host stand and a real piece of paper at least! The rest of our experience was great and the food was delicious.

We tried Wooden Heads on a busy Saturday and had to wait for a table (15-20) but it was totally worth it! The service we received here was memorable. From the recommendations they offered to the meal timing along with their attention to details we enjoyed our night very much. The drink menu offers choices for everyone and the variety of pizza they have made it incredibly difficult to choose (you can build your own! Or have something else like pasta or fish). The pistachio pesto was to die for and we loved being able to finally try a pizza with blue cheese. They offer outdoor seating both in the front and in the back. If you get a chance, request seating in the back as its much quieter and cozy than the sidewalk. Prices are more than reasonnable and we will definetly be back to try more of their pizzas.

Courteous welcome and service. Booked a week or two out at Kingston, Ontario waterfront. I always arrive and get the bar which they don’t book. Started with Lumpia Diavolo spring rolls stuffed with blackened chicken, feta cheese and red cabbage served with cambazola cream sauce and papaya habernero sauce. This Tapas dish has been on the menu since opening just before 2000. Crunchy delicious and flavourful I used the sauces for dipping and held them hostage for my Caesar Salad with Lemon Chicken Breast. Asked for more cambazola sauce and was no issue as you can ask for both sauces anytime with any main. Caesar was plentiful, crispy and covered in snappy Caesar dressing, bountiful cheese flakes and added pepper. Accompanied with Brickworks Cider. Finished with Chocolate Lasagne. Thanks guys and gals for a great Mother’s Day dinner . With gratitude, Chris >

  • Adrienne “scieditor” Montgomerie

The food here is delicious (the veg salad was a knockout) and the service is very good. The decor is nice but I have to downgrade it for the ear damaging noise volume. The decibel metre app registered a sustained 90 dB with jumps to 100. All of the staff there should be filing Worker’s Comp. claims because that causes permanent hearing damage over just several hours. Recommend takeout. But call early in the day as they max out orders often.

After a tough day on the bike (Ottawa to Kingston), including repairing 4 flats, was feeling hungry. A reservation, at a different restaurant, was cancelled, so we were left scrambling to find a place to eat. Luckily, Wooden Heads was a short walk from our hotel. Kingston, on this Saturday night was hopping! This meant a longer wait, but boy was it worth it! While we were waiting for a seat on the street side patio, a cancellation provided an opportunity to enjoy the wonderfully warm back patio! The drink menu is expansive and if you enjoy beer, you’ll have a fine selection of craft beers. The Coco Shrimp were delightful and the Baton Rouge 2.0 had me reminiscing of the warmth, sights, sounds, and smells of Louisiana. The service was engaging and attentive. I’ll be back - next time for pizza. Enjoy your food! Make memories.

On July 14th. Reservations were made for 10 people for my daughters 40th birthday as this is her favorite dining place. The food was amazing as usual but the server made it very clear that she didnt want to be there. No smiles, not friendly, no follow up on how our meals were, no offer of tea coffee or dessert. The server at the table beside us was outgoing making them at that table feel welcome. I understand that being a server is a tough job my daughters have worked in this industry and they worked hard for their tips. I realize that everyone has a rough day at some point but this server had served my daughter another time and she came across the same way. We will return to WoodenHeads but request a different server.

We ordered 2 pizzas, both were burnt, one was badly burnt. But I would not leave a negative review if it were not for the quality of service. When we ordered our bill, the waiter just brought it and pretty much threw it on the table for us without saying a word, then when I paid for it, she asked if I needed a copy of the check, I said no and that's it, she just left without saying thank you, goodbye, nothing. I have never seen such a thing. Such behaviour wasn't provoked by anything from our side, we were polite. Absolutely I have no intention going here second time or recommending it to someone.

Pizzas were delicious if you like thin crust like we do. It was really busy and super loud which made conversation really challenging. Our server was friendly and efficient. The menu has tons of options if you are not in the mood for pizza. It was fun to watch the chef stretching the pizza doughs for the individual sized pizzas.

was there for My sisters birthday dinner on july.14th so there was 9 in total. The service we received was below what I would expect from such an established business. There was no pleasantries with our waitress, not even a smile. she didn't ask how our food was and barely checked on us at all. never asked if we wanted anything else to drink or dessert. when going out to eat at a restaurant such as woodenheads you go for the food and experience but that night felt like it wasn't worth the money. the food was excellent as usual but the service didn't meet expectations.

Great atmosphere and food. It was a Friday, so it was crowded. They have some issues managing seating vs reservations, so, I sat at the bar. It's a small bar with only six seats. The seat besides me was empty, so it was ok, but it if you have a person seating besides you, it will feel like economy class in an airplane in terms of personal space. The service was amical and overall great. I had a green salad to start, it was ok, but it was served in a plate that was too small. After that I had the Citta pizza (prociutto, brie, caramelized onions) and added extra mozzarella. It was really good. I recommend, but may be make a reservation first.

Went to the restaurant on a recommendation by a friend. Was traveling alone so sat at the bar. Restaurant was extremely busy and I'm told this is very common during the summer season. You can make reservations. The restaurant is close to the four major hotels in the downtown area of Kingston. Easy to walk to on a nice night. I felt the prices were reasonable and the portion size was appropriate. Waiter was Paul who was also managing the bar. He was busy but took time to have conversation and make a few of us at the bar feel welcome. I had one of the pizzas and would recommend if you are going to attend the restaurant this should be your choice. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and worth a try.

We chose this place while in town based on their extensive menu of gourmet pizzas. We lucked out as a walk in on a busy Sunday evening of the Canada Day long weekend after there was a cancellation. We ordered the coconut shrimp and citta pizza. It had brie, caramelized onions, prosciutto and basil. It was delicious! The shrimp too were large, hot and tasty. Our server was also very attentive. Oh, we also got pomarita's - so very good cocktail menu too. Would highly recommend if you're visiting Kingston.

We went here before a concert in town. We had to sit out front because they were full and we didn't know we could make a reservation as their site doesn't mention it. Our server was a run off her feet and a bit slow as a result, but it was understandable and she was friendly. The pizzas were a little over $20 each but they were excellent and filled us up. I'd been to the back patio of this place in the past and both that and inside are nice environments, though a bit loud. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in Kingston.

Wow, this was the best pizza I've ever had (Del Bosco). The place was still packed at 3:00 PM today (Easter Saturday) but we were lucky enough to get a table for 3 immediately. Our server was awesome, the drinks and pizza came very quickly and the Masters was on bar TV. I would have stayed all day....will be back on our next trip to Queen's! On second visit added the blackened voodoo shrimp with an asounding mustard sauce for a starter. I need that sauce recipe.

If I can give this place a 0 I would. Approx one month ago I called to put in a takeout order. For personal reasons I ordered three items & had to make two separate payments with my purchase. You wouldn’t believe the nasty vile response I got from the older guy that took my order. It was like I did the worst thing ever. Word of advice to that L0SER- it’s not your job to JUDGE people on how they pay for their food & make them feel disrespected. You’re JOB is to take orders, wipe tables & maintain good CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH PEOPLE TO KEEP YOUR LIGHTS ON

Worst service ever! We sat there for like 10min, nobody came to serve. We told the waiter that we are ready to order, then she said arrogantly that she will grab someone else (actually she is the one who is in charge of it). After another 5min still nobody came for us and even more interestingly, she quickly serviced for the table with 4 people who came way after us. (for sure, more people more tips). We left with disappointment yet no servers felt sorry about this. I would recommend this restaurant if you enjoy the feeling of being humiliated.

I've been to Wooden Heads several times, but I think they have outgrown their status as a high end restaurant. They offer no specific Vegan options (no vegan cheese), their indoor furniture and decor is quite dated and worn. Their food is good quality and their patio is a great location, but there is much better in Kingston now a days. I expected more from a place like this, they will be one of the last to update their offerings.

One of my favourite pizza places. Love is too soft an emotion for what I feel about their Nonna Mela pizza. It was a perfect combination of sweet and savoury. I counted the seconds, hours, days until I had it again. I dreamt of this pizza. People could not get me to shut up about this pizza. I continue my raving here on Google Reviews so that strangers can also be blessed by this pizza. I've enjoyed their other pizzas too but the Nonna Mela will always have my heart.

We were in Kingston for a day and we randomly came across this place. We were so glad that we had lunch here because the food was absolutely amazing. If you’re looking for a chicken pizza, I would definitely recommend the Stromboli pizza. If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, you should go for Spanakopizza. We also ordered Paneer Mumbai Tapas and it was so good. I am definitely coming back to this place for more.

I have been bringing my friends and family who came to visit Kingston. The food (excellent cocktails, appetizers (coconut shrimps are to die for) and pizza) is consistently excellent however the service has not been great. It is a popular place so I understand it is busy. But the servers have not been friendly every time I’ve been here. I felt embarrassed in front of my guests bc of the unfriendly service.

Went there for the first time tonight and had a great experience! My boyfriend & I were seated at the bar because we did not have a reservation but even then we were lucky to be seated so I can't complain about that. The food and the service were amazing. The staff were very friendly and personable. As this is a gourmet restaurant the price was higher than your average pizza place but well worth it. We did not have to wait long for out food or drinks. I would definitely recommend making a reservation to anyone looking for a good time.

I first visited this place close to 10 years ago and was wowed. Since then, I have tried a number of great stone oven pizza joints in Toronto, and my opinion is that wooden heads is my favourite of the bunch. The pizza was awesome - fresh ingredients were used and the waitress was very accommodating for our son as well. Would 10/10 recommend if you are in the area.

First time here. Pizza was incredibly salty. Forced myself to eat a slice and left the rest. When eating a veggie pizza, there is no hiding the quality of the base elements of the pizza. Pretty atmosphere, but pizza doesn't taste like it's made with care and attention to detail. Sauce could be better. Excellent cocktails. Definitely the highlights of the meal. Would come back only for drinks.

The service was fast and friendly. As soon as we sat down we were given water and menus. The server made me feel very welcome. I felt like they did push alcoholic beverages a little more than they probably should have. The food was delicious. They cut the pizzas into 4 slices so it is shareable. They have good vegetarian and meat options. Just note on accessibility, the bathrooms are up a flight of stairs followed by going down a set of stairs.

We have eaten at Wooden Heads 3 times and each time it has been delicious with a high end feeling to the atmosphere. During the warmer months their court yard patio is really nice. The quality in their food really reflects their qualified Chefs and Kitchen staff. Their service has been kind and very informative. They have some beautiful and unique menu options for pizza. Great restaurant, make sure you book a reservation in advance they are popular!

Although this may be the most consistent food experience in Kingston ON, even titans can fall to a lack of front house organization. Your servers are great and food unreal, but FIO (figure it out) on the seating arrangements and stop using the back of receipts to figure out how many tables you have. When asking for a table we were told 5 mins. Of course this turned into 20 when finally after asking when the table would be ready and then not even getting a response we were seated by someone else.

Beautiful day for a cocktail and an amazing pizza, this place did not disappoint. Pizza was perfectly cooked down to the Italian like crust, rich flavourful tomato sauce with Brie, prosciutto and basil to top it off. Pomitjio cocktail was delicious, and bursting with flavours. Waiter was courteous and friendly, will come back again to try a different pizza next time. 10/10

We called ahead and we’re told we wouldn’t need a reservation for 2 people we asked to make one anyways and we were told they don’t do reservations for 2 people. We get to the restaurant (from Toronto) only to be told that it’s booked for the next 2.5 hours. How is it booked if you don’t do reservations. All we got was an “I’m sorry”, plus they literally could’ve split a table that wasn’t being used on the patio (2 people at a table of 4) and used the stacked chairs if they were truly sorry.

Visited for a late lunch and enjoyed the wood fired pizza (Pazzo; $23) and a latte. While the pizza was as good as expected, the latte was surprisingly great. One of my fellow diners recommends the Cesar Salad—Wooden Heads’ version is not dripping in dressing. Cosy atmosphere, busy. Attentive but not overbearing service. Reservations recommended.

Absolutely fantastic pizza place in the heart of Kingston. The pizza is made fresh in their large oven and it comes out perfect every time. The crust is just the right level of chewy and the smoked salmon on the arrogosta was bold and flavourful. The jerk chicken satay was also an interesting mix of flavours. The mango chutney makes a great makeshift dip for the crust as well. The place was also clean with attentive service. All in all, I'd definitely recommend a visit!

Struggled with how to rate as service was fantastic (thanks Annie) but pizza was not worth it. Tried Wooden Heads last year and the wood oven pizza was much better. Generous portions, fresh ingredients, good service. Reservations recommended as tables remain full throughout the day, especially during peak times. Small space makes accessibility limited and very loud. Thus, not a quiet spot to dine and converse. Prices average $23+, including specials, but pizza selections in the teens. Diverse menu, vegetarian options and sharable portions make it a selection that is likely to please everyone in your group.

After having had pizzas at more places than I can count, came across the Wooden Heads Gourmey Pizza today @ Kingston, Ontario. Went in with some high expectations looking at the good ratings and reviews this place had. Ratings and Reviews don't do justice to this place. This place had amazing ambience if you get a seat inside, but the Pizza is absolutely phenomenal. I can say this without a doubt that this was the best Pizza I have ever had.

No exaggeration but one of the best pizzas I've tasted so far. Won't crave pizza anywhere else. Loved the flavour options. My favourite is the seasonal pizza that had the sweet potato topping. Great service from the bartender. I really appreciate when they give you samples of what's on tap so you can make the best choice for you. The app (Lumpia Diavolo) was really cool and tasty. Blackened chicken with spring greens and goat cheese in a freshly baked focaccia in a brick oven cooked on wood. Pizza is sooo delish. Ordered Polpetta pizza - pomodoro sauce, mushrooms, mozzarella meatballs..we added carmelized onions. Maybe not the best in town, but definitely worth a visit or 5!!! It is on the pricey side, and quite popular, so make reservations in advance. #satisfied #localguide

Wooden heads is by far my fav restaurant in Kingston! Their pizzas and food are to die for! My fav items on their menu include the dynamo pizza and the curry! We have eaten four times previously at Woodenheads, always liked our meal. Maybe it was an off night but the pizza crust was soggy, the pizza toppings were sparse so it tasted like dough with marinara sauce. For an upscale pizza place, it was disappointing.

The pizza here was so good. I would definitely stop by if you’re in the area. Dough is excellent, toppings are fresh. The dessert was also really good. Service was good. They don’t take down names or a number if you walk in, you just have to wait right outside the restaurant until a table is ready so I would suggest making reservations ahead of time.

Enjoyed a quick early hour dinner and was lucky to get in without a reservation, on a TUESDAY! Do yourself a favor, try this lovely spot with delicious food and great staff. Next visit to Kingston, I will be back.

Woodenheads never disappoints. It does not matter what we order, the food is always delicious. Even when it is beyond busy (which is usually the case), the service and the quality of the food is always excellent. Make sure to make a reservation well in advance. A special thank you to Jo!

A famous pizza place in Kingston. This place is always busy, especially in the summer when many tourists visit Kingston. In the winter, this is also a favorite place for university students and their parents. Our pizza lunch (tradizionale pizza) and Caesar salad were good. We sat in the outdoor patio area and it was a fun atmosphere.

  • Ryan Potter

Easily my favorite restaurant when in Kingston. Amazing variety of dishes (all delicious) to choose from, but you can never go wrong with the wood-fired pizzas. It's always a great meal and experience!

Our first time to be here. We made the right decision! The pizza for the day was delicious and the spicy flavour added to it was perfect! And Taylor, our server made our lunch memorable. Kudos to the management and staff!

Try to make a reservation and sit inside - being outside in the summer is not necessarily a good experience. The food was ok for the price (we split a pizza between two). It was a little busy so the server had trouble keeping up but otherwise a decent gourmet pizza place

I did a takeout order and tried the pizza with apple butter. It was sooooooo good! Will come back to get it again. It was smaller than I expected for the price but I guess that is to be expected with gourmet pizza.

Now that our boat is back in the water , Wooden Heads is one of our favourite places to have a bit to eat. Gourmet pizza is scrumptious! Definitely try the coco shrimp! Atmosphere is just right, not too loud not too quiet! Must book at least the day before or when they open the day you want to go. They book up fast!

  • Ilyas K (IK)

One of my favourite restaurant in Kingston. The food and service is always great. Coco shrimp and voodoo shrimp are good , voodoo shrimp are full of chillies , you got to be tough to handle them. The pizzas are super my family favourite.

Not really sure the reason for the extremely high ratings. We found the pizza OK and the prices high. In our opinion the best thing was the soup that we ordered. The service was good but nothing that justifies a 5 star rating. decent experience. Next time I visit Kingston I would try another restaurant.

  • Victoria Powell

Best pizza I've ever had! The ingredients are the freshest I've ever had! Coconut shrimp were pretty good too. If you have a chance to, sit outside at the back. The ambiance is so beautiful and romantic. We both absolutely love this place and will recommend to anyone visiting Kingston to try it out!

This is a must do when you are in Kingston but plan ahead because it is ALWAYS busy. The pizza is on par with any of the other best places I have been. The chicken, pesto, honey pizza is my favorite. Visit 2: Stuck with the dynamo but tried a blue crab special pizza and the meatball special.

Randomly picked restaurant during a road trip to Kingston. The food and service were great! Coco Shrimp is great! Highly recommended! The NONNA MELA pizza with CARAMELIZED ONIONS was delicious but a bit sweet for us.

Pizza was soggy on the inside asked to reheat it in the oven made me a new one but this one was burnt. For two beers and a pizza 50 dollars can’t say it was memorable night out. For specializing in pizza it should be cooked right !

YOU HAVE TO TRY THE CALAMARI 12/10 honestly the best calamari even amongst Michelin Starred restaurants ive tried. Other foods were 8/10. Service was phenomenal. This is a restaurant I drove 2 hours just to try every year and It is worth all the gas money just to have food here.

  • The Harvest Hunters

A Kingston / Queen's U staple! The food is always good, not exceptional, but the value for what you get is great. Service is always great too. I always recommend Wooden Heads to those visiting campus who was a reliable, casual meal.

I've been to Kingston only 2 times and went to eat here both times. I highly reccomend the Nonna Mela Pizza! I have tried a few other pizzas and they all tasted great but that is for sure my fave. The location right downtown is great too.

  • Karen T

They have reservations available at the back of the restaurant and walk in diners at the front. We did have to queue (understandably!) but it was worth the wait. The pizza was crispy and tasty and the salad was well seasoned and fresh.

  • Riddhima Chandani

Randomly picked this place on our roadtrip to Kingston which is now my 10/10 spot that I will definitely return to. Love love love everything about this place! The food was bomb; the service was top-notch; the vibe was excellent! Its

Amazing wood oven pizza options to choose from as well as appetizers & sandwiches. True authentic Italian feel to the restaurant. Nice little patio on the sidewalk and road. Make reservations it does get packed Bon appétit …

  • Allan Ryan

It is too bad. The food is very good but the lack of basic courtesy by staff and the manager on duty was disgraceful when simply trying to make a reservation. Should learn some basic customer service skills.

Love this place! I visit at least once every time I’m in Kingston. It’s a great spot for sipping Prince Edward County wine in the heart of historic downtown Kingston while waiting for our delicious wood-fired pizza!!

  • Navin Beharry

Delicious thin crust pizza. Very friendly staff, with reasonable prices. We had the curried lobster with blackened chicken. The pizza had much more chicken and sweet potato than lobster. Then we had porchitto pizza.

  • Maria Isabel A.

One of the best places to go out to eat in town. It never disappoints. From the amazing food, yummy drinks and awesome friendly staff. We had a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner.

  • Kerry T

Amazing pizzas and great atmosphere. The nonna pizza is a must try; we also got the pear prosciutto and spinach feta pizza; all of them were great- light and flavourful.

Meh. Pizza was ok... but super pricey. Seatings very squished together. Nothing wrong w the place but I didn't think it was super special. Probably won't return. More

I traveled more than 70km just for their pizza. Chicken pizza was good but pizza with feta cheese and olive was too sour. I couldn't finish it.

We got one pizza each (4 total) with the intention of sharing and taking leftovers to go...but they were really good and we ate them all!
