I’ve past this establishment numerous times and today my curiosity got the better of me. Amongst all the Jamaican spots in this area I was seeking something new, maybe I’d even found a diamond in the rough… I was wrong. If as a Jamaican restaurant you can’t nail down a good jerk chicken (every place is different and tastes will vary) then you need to go back to the drawing board. I played it safe and grabbed the “jerk chicken” sandwich and what I got was something very close to supermarket rotisserie chicken with a lil’ kick. First I waited close to 15 minutes for a sandwich that was room temperature at best. Now I know that everything has its place but there was no need for there to be mayonnaise anywhere near that sandwich and growing up in an island household I never saw it incorporated into any of the staple meals so again I think they should pass on the mayo and focus on their seasonings. Sadly this was my first and last time eating here. Word to the wise. If you have a place that you frequent when you need to get your Jamaican food fix, go there or try someplace else.

I was told about this place from my Aunt. I had an opportunity to try the snapper escovitch fish at a party on 8/9/2020. When I tell you that fish was so flavorful and tasty. I went today and ordered a bunch of things. I.e. rasta pasta, oxtail, curry goat, wings, callaloo rice, pumpkin rice and of course some snapper. The pasta, oxtail, curry goat and the carrots/peppers for the fish were . I mean head sweating hot . I couldn't even share with my children. They were looking forward to the pasta and couldn't eat it. The sauce for the wings wasn't that bad but needless to say it was spicy. A little pepper sauce should is ok but but someone clearly is putting too much in all the pots. Portion sizes are small and lacks veggies and/or plantains. Prices are a bit pricey. I would definitely go back for fish since I can take off the onions, peppers and carrots but I will not order other meals. I loved the fact that you can call ahead, place your order and pick up. In addition the food is separated.

My wife and I had Jerk Chicken, Rasta pasta, and sorrel from this restaurant decided to try some food from a restaurant I had not visit called de island more like disgusting. I already know what the food should taste like and it was not correct. One bite of the pasta and I ate no more, then I tasted the chicken it was fair not the best nor the worst, the steam cabbage was alright but on the hard side. The sorrel tasted like carbonated fruit punch with a dash of sorrel. After about an hour this food had me bound to the toilet bubble guppies and all. Not just me it also happened to my wife. I regret trying this place and wasting $34. Next time I will go with what I know Nicki restaurant 2 blocks down. There is an old saying don’t eat from any and anybody guess I found out the place they were talking about de island.

Good food but horrible customer service. The employees are unprofessional , unpleasant and incompetent. It's apparent that management needs to train the employees on proper customer service or maybe someone needs to train management on how to management their employees. It's so wrong to walk away with your food but be annoyed by the daily lousy customer service. It's becoming not worth it for me , who needs the headache. The Brooklyn location service is equally bad , McDonald's has better customer service.

You can venture here if you're looking for a quick bite of Carribbean food. I ordered the Escovitch fish. After the long wait, I figured they were making the fish...so be prepared for a wait with a fish order. I wasn't fond of the fish ...I've had better....and there was no spice to it. My husband enjoyed the chicken..which I think is probably their specialty. Also, customer service could have been better. I tried asking 2 basic questions and customers responded rather than cashier who looked at me with a blank face. For the amount of money we spent...$25, I expected more food. I got a piece of fish with a little rice and peas in addition to 1/4 leg of chicken with rice

25 dollars for oxtail that doesn’t even taste that good. The amount is very small and does not include plantain. If plantain is included, that’s 3 dollars extra. I will not be going back there. These people are hungry for money and they are rude. I asked the lady to put hot sauce in my food and she ignored me and turned her face and didn’t put any. First and last time buying food there. Now I can see why that restaurant was so empty.Don’t care if I’m starving. I don’t really write reviews, but just trying to help someone out there. DO NOT WASTE YOUR . MONEY! Rotis r us, blue mountain and Peppa makes great oxtail just Incase anyone needed a suggestion.

The food is usually good. And I have not had dry food or something that was not to my liking. I gave this place three stars because I had a bitter taste of how they do business last Friday after I ordered on Uber eats, but when I canceled the order after waiting too long. I could not wait any longer so I told the cashier that I had to go. They took the liberty of charging me the full order of the meal that I did not receive. The alleged reason being that they had already started making the order. However when I inquired about me food I was just told a have to wait a while longer. For me that’s enough to not buy from them again.

I ordered an oxtail with rice today. First off for the price you pay (which comes with no sides like salad or plaintain) you would expect a decent portion of meat on the oxtails. My oxtails had bones with little to no meat!!!! This is my second time here. First experience was good, but this was so disappointing. I would have returned the food, but I was already home and didn't feel like driving out again. Updated: initially gave a bad review, but management has reached out and provided a solution. Appreciate their professionalism and look forward to a better experience during my next visit.

I ordered from From here on Uber eats and I must say I was unsatisfied. The quality of the food overall I had no problem with. But the portion was beyond ridiculous. How can you expect someone to spend $25 on takeout/delivery and it wasn’t even enough for me and my 7 year old. I ended up having to order something else because I barely ate after feeding my daughter. Both of us do not eat that much to begin with. I ordered oxtail and roti as I have many times before. Unfortunately, this time it was covered in a THICK layer of oil. I didn’t know that when I ask for extra sauce that that translates to extra greasy. I literally spooned it off of the top of the gravy because the amount of oil there made me nauseous. I finally get to the bottom, and there’s a piece of foil in my food. Great? Yeah, not so much. I love the oxtail here but not sure I will order again because the foil made me wonder what else they’re doing to the food that’s just plain hazardous.

Food was okay. Lady at the front forgot about my order and my food was sitting on the counter. When I asked questions about the food she had an attitude and rolled her eyes at me. Felt like I was begging for the food I paid for. Never coming back again. How do you forget about paying customers. Everyone on the line got their food and they were on line behind me. She didn’t seem to care that she forgot about the food. If the food was great I would’ve been fine with the attitude but it wasn’t that great. You ain’t missing nothing .

When I go to this restaurant, my favorite foods to buy are jerk chicken and festival. My husband has Jerk snapper and festival. We get 3 in the meal and if you don't want the drink, you can swap it out for an extra festival. So that's what we do....A little stingy with the jerk sauce, so I suggest asking for extra....

I've been passing this restaurant for the longest and decided to get something from their to eat tonight,tbh the service for me was zero (0) that's how poor it was,after ordered and waited for awhile,just to be informed that what I had ordered is finished,and to make it worst the guy that was making my plate stop in the middle to go in the back to talked "like who does that" the lady that take my order had the leave the cashier post to go finish make my plate,this was my first and only time.

The food sucks and the rice taste like something they microwaved and bought from a store premade and decided to mixed the beans in . I was so dissapointed in the bland taste of the rice . My boyfriend was disgusted with the stew chicken , it tasted like a 3 year old was allowed to stir the pot . I couldn't eat that whole day after that . They are fraudulent , because they give that impression of having authetic Jamaican food , but it is all covered in lies .

Well this is my favorite spot to DIET cheat. A beautiful staff sooo friendly and clean. This is top for me. The only place as long as i have money will tip everyone. Sooo polite. They spoil me. Great west Indian food.. The atm is aways there for me sometimes when i dont have any cash and the bathroom is always assesiable. A clean place to order food for large occasions Simply the best. . The owner always cone out to meet and greet me. With a sweet smile.

The food was good but the uber eats app is ordered horribly. You need to clearly explain what you mean by two festival in the app because I had no idea what it was and every order seems to have an option for it. Not to mention under choice of rice it had different sides so I was confused as to whether I would get rice and the sides, or the sides instead of the rice. Please have someone take a day to fix these issues and I will update this review.

The food provided in this establishment is very authentic, no-frills Caribbean food. Whether fish or curry goat, it is absolutely delicious and made from good quality ingredients. For the portion size, the price is reasonable. The service can be a bit slow because of the popularity of the restaurant, so be sure to call in your order ahead of time. I will most certainly be back when my travels intersect with Brooklyn again.

Clean restaurant, friendly staff, good food (curry goat & oxtails w/rice & peas was my order), and all of the meals cost an average of $15 with decent portions. I usually go to Fisherman Cove at 2137 Nostrand Ave. but I wanted to try something different and cars be lined up on the weekends (prob after the club) at De Island Restaurant so that's what made me go there. And yes, I will be returning there from time to time.

The bleach out face Jamaican girl with the tongue ring in her mouth attitude is just the same as her appearance. Everyone I sen there have something bad to say about her or even wen I go there. Yes, I work in Canarsie, and I go here all the time. I'm on a keto diet and the jerk chicken is the best. I don't feel like I'm missing out on much each time I order the jerk chicken. I travel from Bed-Stuy to flatbush just for the food! Everything is well packaged and well proportioned so the prices are worth it. I always get the Rasta Pasta. Super cheap! Excellent Caribbean food! We tried the jerk chicken, the goat curry, roti, cassava fries, the sorrel and mauby drinks. The jerk chicken and goat curry had excellent spices and paired well with the roti. The sorrel drink was sweet and floral. The mauby drink starts sweet and has an earthy bitter aftertaste which was delicious. The service was fast and friendly.

Called to order over the phone asked for Escovitch fish, person taking the order yelled “escovitch what, and yelled the different fish choices.” As if I was supposed to know every item on their menu. The food there is good and well prepared. You can order take out or stay in at the restaurant and eat. The wait time can get a little long but they provide a lot of take and sits that can help with passing the time. The prices are generally fair for the proportions, taste, and quality of the food. They also offer a few varieties of fountain drinks.

The older Jamaican lady with dramatic eyelashes and different color hair at the register needs to smile and do better at being welcoming. First time coming into this restaurant after noticing it for years. Ordered jerk chicken meals for my family. I like how they provide the jerk sauce on the side so you can add how much you want depending on how spicy you want it. The food was delicious. Restaurant is clean.

If you want authentic West Indian fast food and good seasoning, this is quick place to visit. They don't Americanize the food to make it acceptable or less spicy for anyone that's not from the Caribbean. Their kitchen is clean and the people are pleasant.

Im literally sitting in my car while making this review. The service here is so slow, I have waited over 40 minutes for 2 small order of jerk chicken and rice. Next time don’t wait until your out of chicken to throw some on the grill! This is ridiculous!

Just Ordered for me and my picky 3yr old and he enjoyed everything to my surprise except for the chicken he doesn't eat meat so much but he tried it he loved the pepper sauce he dabed it on everything.

The food is very consistent. Not sure how they prepare it but you don't get that "lighter fluid" chemical taste that you get at some jerk joints. It is also never burnt. I highly recommend de Islands.

I think they have the best restaurant made oxtails in Brooklyn. Whenever I'm in the area I stop by and get a plate. The jerk chicken with rice & peas is great also.

Best caribbean food in Canarsie. Rule of thumb: call in your order before you arrive. When you reach just pay and go. This saves 15minutes of waiting

Bland rice, strong ginger tasting oxtail, no other flavors what so ever. Completely ripped off. $26 for a "large" plate. Never ordering here again.

Food was excellent and it was fresh well worth the 15 minutes waiting time I'm looking forward to the next time I'm in carnise to stop by again
