I am so disappointed with my visit here, and even more so after reading the reviews which were met with horrible professionalism. Every response invalidates customer's actual experiences, and I for one am not appreciative of a business who does not show a willingness to improve and value their customers feedback. Knowing that this review will likely be responded to as well, I want to make myself very clear and say that, like previous reviewers, I am a huge component of supporting local businesses. I don't generally come to Bloor West neighborhood, and was drawn in to this place by the delicious looking desserts and pastries in the window display. Like previous reviewers, I decided to take this opportunity to treat myself. I had good customer service while there, and chose 4 different desserts - the apple fritter, ginger molasses cookie, cream puff, and mocha horn. When I sat down to eat the desserts, however, I was appalled at the fact that a dessert--and desserts from Toronto, no less--could look so damn good but taste so bad. I am not a picky person, but these were the worst pastries and desserts I have ever had. The cream puff pastry was so stale and tasteless, and the cream was thick - almost like a cool whip consistency, but without trying to be cool whip. The next thing I tried was the ginger molasses cookie. First off, there was no ginger in it. Second, it was hard as a rock. I had to warm it in the microwave to make it actually edible. I was so disappointed. Not being one to waste things, I went on to try the apple fritter. It was disgusting. Without exaggeration, it tasted like some dried cured meats had been placed atop the apple fritter because the pastry both tasted and smelt like meat. The apple filling inside tasted (somehow?) like wet dog. I couldn't even touch the mocha horn at that point, being too scared to ingest any more fatty (and not even worth the fat or calories!) dessert for one night. When I had the mocha horn the next day, it was not bad, and the mocha filling was pretty good. The pastry, however, suffered from the same poor conditions; it was stale. But, compared to the others, it tasted pretty good. Safe to say I will not be returning. I usually don't write Google reviews, but this one needed writing. I even had a nightmare about them - I looked up the meaning of the dream and it said that I felt lied to and cheated. Well, that's completely true. I want my money back. Do not support this small business. I would give it less than 1 star if I could, and I hate how cold this sounds, but it had to be said. I don't want anymore pastry lovers being ripped off or subjected to as bad pastries as this place serves up.

I wholeheartedly believe in supporting local business especially during these difficult times but PLEASE DO NOT support this one. Horrible customer service. Totally disrespectful. I went in to buy four slices of cake but they were sold out. I asked if the donuts were fresh as I stopped buying them because the last few times I bought them they were not at all fresh. My whole family complained that they were not fresh and to stop buying them. I have had them a few times before, and they were fresh and absolutely amazing. The owner overheard and came straight over and was totally disrespectful. She said they are baked every morning. You don’t know what the “f” your talking about. You know nothing. I told her I’m not trying to be rude or insulting I’m just stating a fact. She again was extremely rude and told me to open my own shop then as I don’t know what I’m taking about and I know nothing. I said why would I lie. I’m the customer I know what I’m taking about. She then said I don’t need your business. Again I was polite, apologized and said I’m just saying what I experienced. I said as a business owner you should listen to your customers. She got even more upset and said I don’t need your “fin” business. Wow no concern for the customers opinion. I had no intention of insulting anyone nor was I complaining. I simply asked the cashier if the donuts were fresh. Also, a few months back I ordered a cake a week in advance and picked it up first thing in the morning. I put it in the fridge. At lunch I served it. The cake was frozen. If the cake was baked that morning why was it frozen?? Please do not support a business who does not value their customers opinions and instead attacks them. My heart was pumping wow. A simple question and I get attacked

We visited the other day by sort of by happenstance. We were walking down Bloor West and recognized their sign, and realized "let's give these guys A SECOND chance". The FIRST time we visited, about 6 months ago... COVID19 was playing havoc on local businesses and their selection was pretty poor. What they did have, at that time...were large nice looking pastries, from which, we took home 2 to try. When we arrived home last time....they were DRY and tasted as though they were NOT made that day. After some reflection, we thought "maybe it's because they don't have as many customers during COVID19, so their product sits a bit longer"...or something towards that effect. THUSLY...we gave them a SECOND CHANCE....and to be honest....the selection was MUCH nicer....and the staff were very pleasant. For comparison sake..we tried 2 of the exact same large cheese and Blueberry pastries that we had before,... and REGRETTABLY I must report....they were SLIGHTLY less dry, but still nothing to write home about. They were what one might come to expect from a Supermarket chain, not a family run bakery. We will NOT be back for pastries, BUT MAYBE to try a cake or another dish, because the place was clean and the staff were very friendly... You be the judge on this one! This is just one man's opinion!

I had a bad experience at Janchenko today. I came to buy some snacks for $12. At the checkout, I told the salesperson i'm paying Debit, but I mixed up the cards and tapped with Credit (totally accidentally. TD cards look the same and I must've mixed them up before). The salesperson got really UPSET when they saw the invoice. They teached me repeatedly i'm not allowed to do that (but, why did the payment go through?), i'm damaging their business, and i'm lying to them. It is popular for small stores in Toronto to "deny" credit cards, but this is the most aggressive response i've seen. I apologized three times, and even showed my identically-looking cards. The salesperson couldn't stop and continued to teach me a lesson. For reference, the "damage" was around 20 cents in fees. Honestly, i told them i have better things to do in my life than lying to people at Christmas, and left. Enjoy your future 20 cents savings, as I won't be returning.

Some of the reviews are so strange here so i wanted to leave one here about my recent experience and hope it will help other customers! Everything was safe, staff was wearing a mask (just one lady in the store), line-up was at the street and only 1 household at a time inside. I got a Napoleon, a traditional mille-feuille Russian cake as well as Medovik (a layered honey cake with a chocolate glaze and walnuts in between), as well as a mixture of cookies. Everything is delicious even after 1 whole day (and carrying pastry in the heat all day!), it was soft, smooth, not dry at all! The only weird thing was that we couldnt take pictures of the store itself? I thought that it could actually help market this lovely local bakery but they didnt allow me to take a picture. Anyway, I liked it and I think that its worth a visit for pastries and cakes! Dont dwell over mean reviews, definitely give a Medovik a try!

I went to buy Easter bread week ago for my friend and I was so confused and disappointed. I’ve visited this place before many times and food was always fresh and tasty. But this time it was not about food. I don’t know what happened to the owner Maria but she was acting really weird. She could not stand on her feet, she was not able to keep the balance and didn’t understand anything I was saying. When she was serving me, she put Easter bread in the bag upside down but fortunately the glazing was still there after this throw. When I also wanted to add 4 donuts to the order she asked me why did I need that much food. What? But the thing that got me even more was that while I was checking out she suddenly pulled her mask down and started to eat some samples of treats they had on the counter in front of me. This place is not safe right now so better try another bakery.

I dropped by here on 2 separate occasions. Not the friendliest service. On Sunday (May 3rd) and today. On Sunday I bought a tiramisu which tasted good. Today I bought a custard donut and tiramisu again. More than 3/4 into the donut, I thought I was given a plain one as I did not taste or see any custard. There was less than a teaspoon of custard near the end of the donut. Tiramisu was not the same as Sunday. It was very, very, dry today. It did not taste like tiramisu at all. Something was off about the taste. To top it off, after an hour and a half of eating these 2 things (the one donut and 1/4 of the tiramisu...dumped the rest out), I had a stomach ache and threw it all up. I called the store at 7:22 pm to ask what was in the food, how and when it was prepared/made. No one picked up. Food poisoning is not a joke.

Terrific bakery - my wife and I popped in yesterday, just for a drink and we were delighted that we had stopped. We ended up having lunch because everything looked so tasty. And, indeed it was. Everything was really good and served on lovely china, with real cutlery - no environmental waste here! The people - owner and servers - were delightful and clearly enjoyed interacting with all their customers. The place is a little gem and reminded me of trips to special bakeries in Europe when I was younger. Disclaimer: I do not know the owner and received no gift, money or food for this review. I'm writing it because it deserves it. I was so impressed, I even asked to take a couple of photos because it was so pretty. Sorry I don't live in Bloor West Village or I'd be there daily! Peace.

  • Margeaux St. Croix

I went today and got some items from the hot table (cabbage roll and a dozen pierogis, and I also got a potato and egg salad that was amazing with carrots peas and pickles in it) everything was amazing and good portions for the price. The cabbage roll was really big and exactly how I like it with a really yummy sauce. The best part of the experience was the service, everyone working there was so welcoming and sweet and I was in and out of there fast with my food. It was still nice and hot when I got home after walking 15 mins in very cold weather. I’m new in the neighborhood and can’t wait to return for more food The people who write negative reviews aimed to hurt someone’s business need to get a life

Big disappointment! I was so excited when I saw Eastern European bakery when I walked by... I thought I would experience taste of childhood, home made delicious pastries and cakes. At the end after trying 3 different cakes I was in total disbelief how tasteless it was. It's typical commercial (zavodskie) cakes with weird taste. I thought when bakery has the owners name they should take pride in what they do. It doesn't do justice to Eastern European cuisine and especially desserts and its a shame that Torontonians don't have access to the quality dessets in its best shape at least not at this place. All 3 cakes went into garbage.

This Bakery was my favorite until the last time I was there on a Saturday, which made me feel unwelcome. I got to this bakery about 50 minutes before closing time to buy a couple of doughnuts. The girl behind the counter was bagging the pastries. ( Shouldn't they make a fresh batch for the next day?) I requested a specific doughnut, and she said, " I have it, but I don't know where it is." Was I supposed to serve myself? I didn't know this bakery offered self-service?! The old woman with glasses who was moving pastries around was very rude. She almost hit me while passing with the tray she was carrying without apologizing.

  • Carole Wang

The savory foods are served hot and taste very authentic. I had the Kasha and the service was very kind. However I am giving 3/5 stars as the baked goods really lack flavour and are barely sweet. The raspberry doughnut was dry and literally had a pebble size raspberry filling so most of the doughnut was bland. Also had the coconut raspberry macaroon, and same issue - literally no taste. Disappointing and not a good use of calories. For a bakery, the baked goods must be the priority. However for this bakery, it is very pretty inside and the service is very kind so I would just recommend to go here for the savory foods.

  • Iam Fantastico

Bought a couple of pastries and doughnuts, they looked amazing but one of the pastries and both doughnuts were SO stale... Ugh, not edible. So dry, it was like trying to eat Styrofoam. Two people behind the counter, one was a very capable and wonderful person who was doing ALL the work. The other person didn't seem to know what they were doing and didn't seem interested in helping. A very long lineup ensued. Very disappointed. Aren't bakeries supposed to bake fresh every day and label their "day old" items as such? Why do people shop here, how does this place stay in business?

  • Andrew Weatherbee

Unfortunately everything is made with highly processed canola oil. Might as well be eating McDonald’s French fries or Krispy Creme from down the street. Please switch to butter , like traditional European recipes! To the owner, please try one donut from Noctura bakery nearby on Dundas St. This is what you should be selling. Not the commercially processed synthetic oil filled products. “Made by hand” with with a bottle of canola oil in the other hand? Canola oil is is ALL products here, not just the baked goods.

Although it is a small restaurant, food is excellent and you can take everything home. Even though I'm not from Ukraine, these dishes are very close to me and really remind me of home and home cooking. The staff was very nice, fast, everything was fine. Unfortunately, it was not possible to pay by card, so I didn't taste much, but the potato salad and soup were excellent.

I was passing by on Saturday and was impressed by the looks and the variety of cakes. Eastern European baked goods is hard to find unless you travel up north. But I was really disappointed by the taste. Issue #1: stale taste - the pastries were not fresh and had a moldy taste and crumbled when eating. Issue #2: They are not using real butter but some kind of substitute it has really bad taste. Shortening? Issue #3: The dough of the cake didn't bake through properly. I wouldn't go back, this is not even close to what it supposed to be.

  • Eugene Tse

Let's see - I've had their mushroom soup (PACKED WITH SO MUCH FLAVOUR); I've had their cabbage rolls (AWESOME); I've had their Hungarian Peppers (DELIGHTFULLY DELICIOUS); I've had their cherry danishes, Napoleans (see picture), apple turnovers, cherry turnovers, (ALL GREAT) ummm.... oh ya! their poppyseed pastries (OMG!) and so much more that I can't think of right now. In sum, IT IS WONDERFUL PLACE AND THE EMPLOYEES AND OWNER ARE SO KIND AND SPLENDID! (Oh yea, I've had numerous coffees there too - soooo good!)

  • Nick Bowland

We recently moved to the area and finally tried them. We had a great experience as we got help navigating the store. The raspberry donut is an absolute must, my style of chocolate chip cookie they serve and can’t wait to try the cinnamon bun and tiramisu. One thing I would say and not to their fault is the cannoli wasn’t our favourite. My partner is Sicilian so we’ve tried some of the best ones in the city and in Sicily. I’m also looking forward to trying their lunch options and will report back

  • Bruce Pinney

This was a very poor experience. We bought 2 cinnamon rolls, both were so dry and stale they were inedible. We bought an apple danish that had a very bad taste - again inedible. And we also bought a poppyseed loaf that was obviously made with rancid ingredients - again inedible. All was thrown to the garbage. When I contacted the bakery I was told that the cinnamon rolls were not stale and as for the rest, they were 'sorry but we cannot do anything and we won't send you the money you spent'.

  • Ramona M.

The dobos cake is absolute perfection (caramelized sugar top is crunchy, but thin enough that you can still bite into it easily), the cream is delicious and just the right mild sweetness, and the layers are puffy and soft, but with enough support for the whole cake). I haven't had a dobos this "right" in a long time! The sour-cherry donuts were also amazing! So happy I found this spot. Will be back to try the rest of the yumminess in the window!

  • Maria A

Been coming here since it was “Anna’s bakery”! It got a face lift, and really went far to create a modern appearance. The hot table also looks a lot better than when it was under different ownership. I however come here for dessert, and I did notice they carry the same stuff but it seems fresher! My friends and I really enjoy the desserts whether it be the cookies, or cakes! This is by far the best eastern euro bakery that is in bloor west village.

  • Sugafull 27

We bought 4 pastries and only 2 were ok..... nothing was impressive or stood out or was any of them delicious... They looked delicious from the window tho.. The peanut butter pecan pie was impossible to break with a silver fork. And the taste was stale and unpleasant. The only ok pastry was the tiramisu - still nothing amazing but it was the best one out of all. I live 8mins away but will not return.. theres other handful of good cafes in the area.

  • Joseph Zettler

This is by far my favourite bakery, next to Tre Mari Bakery on St. Claire Ave W. Everything I've had from here is delicious and always keeps me coming back for more. The best thing I've ever had from this bakery is a slice of their tiramisu cake. Unlike other's I've had, this one was actually moist with espresso and fresh, velvety mascarpone cream. This was the high quality tiramisu that I've been in search of for most of my life.

  • Ken Nguyen

Finally had the great pleasure of trying this place! Window displays are always gorgeous, fresh, and the smell is incredible. The lady behind the counter this morning was very kind and helpful. Ordered an Americano with a ginger snap cookie - certainly one of the best I’ve had! Limited seating outside but I managed to get a table. Would love to come back and try everything else… there’s so much to offer here!

  • eugene

While visiting from Montreal we stopped here for breakfast - after a recommendation from our friend who lives in the area. Everything looked delicious and fresh. We had 5 pastries ( apple square, cherry cheese danish, poppyseed cake,... ) a coffee, a latte and an americano and the bill was only $24 for everything. All 4 of us were very pleased. Friendly service - sorry I didn't buy more to take home!!!!

  • Alexander Zabradi

First time visiting this bakery and will be my last. I called ahead to ask if they had Dobos Torte and I was assured they did, but when I arrived I was told they only sold in slices. That’s when I was finally served. I found the staff to be rude and dismissive with lots of people waiting to be served. Not a great experience at all! I won’t be returning and would not recommend to others either.

  • D

I visit the bakery occasionally. On this visit I had their perogies, poppyseed pie square, chocolate babka, and ginger molasses cookie. All were absolutely splendid and fresh baked. Staff are attentive, friendly, and warm. Decor is kitschy and very cute. Great street appeal with the pastries in the window. Absolutely must try. Anything on the menu will satisfy a craving for a homestyle treat.

  • Anna Kozlova

I was visiting from Ottawa and staying at friend’s place that was around the corner from this bakery. I’m so sad we don’t have a place like this in Ottawa. I loved it so much - I came back a second time the same day. This bakery has such a wonderful selection of Ukrainian sweet and savoury foods - it reminded me of being at my grandmother’s place. It’s so nice to see this food in Canada.

  • Gabriel Malapitan

My family and I really enjoyed our experience at the bakery this afternoon. Despite the crowded store during the lunch rush, all of the people were still very accommodating and kind! The food, of course. was excellent as well. We got a slice of the dobosh cake and the poppyseed and almond pastry, both of which were fresh and tasty. Would highly recommend, even with the service alone.

  • Allison Naubur

Everything looked delicious from the window, we bought 6 pastries all tasted stale and extremely bland. One was a raspberry filled doughnut and ended up having no filling in it :( Shared a schnitzel sandwich with my husband and again not great in anyway ...neither of us finished. Nothing was impressive or stood out in any way. Overall was extremely disappointing and will not return.

  • mary kure

Was really disappointed today when we purchased the plum donuts (small and large). They were hard/stale. They shouldn't be selling old product Edit: I have purchased plum donuts from many bakeries throughout the city and am well aware of what fresh tastes like. When something is stale or old, it's evident. The dough was clearly hard as was the glaze, this was not made the day of.

  • Jozef Bednarski

The place is amazing. I went here to get some baked goods for my dad as he has not had any Polish deserts in decades, and I was blown away by the customer service. Even though the place was busy and line fairly long, the lovely lady made time to talk to me and recommend treats - making me feel like family. The snacks were super tasty and my dad loved the cookies and doughnuts.

  • Katia Fox

One of my favourite spots in Bloor West Village! The beautiful window display always makes me smile, and the pastries taste as good as they look. Great spot not only for sweets but to pick up frozen perogies, ready-to-eat blintzes, and fresh bread. Their eat-in menu is great too! This place has it all, and is definitely worth a stop whether it’s for a meal or a quick treat.

  • Kevin Lam

Friendly amazing staff. Delicious and decently priced takeout luch options. We had the schnitzel sandwich with saurkraut, perogies, and potato pancake with smoked salmon. There were tasty looking pastries in the front window. We were certainly tempted to buy some but stopped short because of all the wasps flying on them in the front window.

  • Phil Wilson

Maria was very helpful in helping us get a cake delivered to my sister for her birthday. We had not called with enough lead time for a custom design but Maria helped us figure out a suitable cake that would arrive on time. My sister loved the surprise! She said the cake was very tasty. Thanks again for all your help. Great customer service.

  • Jessica Rosa

I’m from the states and I was visiting a friend and we were in the area and saw their sign for their soup special and decided to go in. It was a great choice! Such a cute bakery! We ordered lox with potato pancake which the owner delicately prepared and severe to us on beautiful plates. If your in the area I would suggest this place!

  • Jerome Parm

My partner and I were visiting Toronto from the US and we found this bakery while out walking the neighborhood. Hands down the best bakery I've been in. Charming, lots of amazing variety, and the service was top notch. Maria was an absolute delight. Give her a visit and try lots of things (we did!), You won't be disappointed!

  • Alexandra Sharpstone (Alexa S)

Wonderful food with so much to choose from! Delicious and mouthwatering. European ambiance. Chef is so talented and creative. The owner, Maria, is beautiful inside and out and so welcoming. An accomplished cook in her own right. Pure comfort food made with natural ingredients. A Bakery well worth a trip to Bloor West Village.

  • Graeme Gourley

My dad and I shop here often and will keep going back for all the great food. The perogies are great, the crepes are tasty. All the baked goods are just like Baba's. The owner is friendly and the staff are (usually) very nice as well. If you want lunch, the ready to eat foods are great. I can't recommend this place enough.

  • Monifa 360

Delicious!! I have lived in the neighbourhood for 10yrs now & Janchenko's is my go to bakery for a great sweet treats. I love buying their hazelnut horns, mocha horns, etc. You cant go wrong with any sweet treat you buy. Never a disappointment. SO DELICIOUS!! I recommend Janchenko's to my family, friends all the time.

  • J Hanson

I pretty much like everything they make here. Service is lovely and selection is amazing! Too bad people choose to make personal attacks on staff in the bakery. If you don't like the food, go somewhere else. If you still need to make personal attacks on people "Tasha Eddington", go seek help for your anger issues.

  • Sergio Helio Acosta Solis

My Number One all the time .. I can't mention something specifically because I can't remember the names of their pastry but they're always great . You can feel in your mouth how fresh and high quality are their products. They keep high standards always. Prices are very reasonable and the staff are nicely helpful.

  • Ashley Chin

Really enjoyed the cabbage soup; it was hearty, healthy, and delicious! Cabbage rolls were also great, but next time I will ask for more sauce to go with them. It was the perfect pick-up after a long day at work and holiday eating for the past month. A new go-to spot for me! Looking forward to trying other items.

I bought a Napoleon pastry, probably in the fridge for some time, and got a food poisoning from it. Also bought these two in the picture that weren’t something special. Please don’t sell what is stale!

Amazing place! A real gem. Had the best salmon drannikis (potato pancakes) in my life! I loved everything about this cozy bakery: the coffee, the snacks and pastries, the lovely lady that was very kind to my little daughter, the stylish design, the ambience. I think we've just found our favorite bakery!

  • O Ielnykova

Tried this bakery more than once and every time it’s a disappointment. All of the cakes are just not what you’d expect them to be. They taste stale and blend, just not worth your money 100%. There’s an amazing bakery in Etobicoke that serves mouthwatering European cakes, but unfortunately NOT this one.

  • Ms Mah

looked as a nice shop to me. however the lady at the reception was not welcoming to my family and I compare to the local people. I am so sad about it, my first experience ever in Toronto that someone behaves differently with me because of my appearance, ethnicity, background, religion, clothing, etc.

  • Melissa M. Vassell

Absolutely delicious with great customer service! They used to have these infamous brownies that they no longer make but they were the best brownies I've ever had! However if you're looking to try something there for the first time, I would definitely look into their fruit tarts and cinnamon rolls!

  • Dua Ahmad

“ Racist and judgmental owners” It was my first time in this bakery! Obviously I was mesmerised with the deserts on the display! I complimented the women behind the counter about how beautiful they were, but in response she made Harassing comments about my husband! Completely unacceptable and Rude.

  • EM MA

This is honestly the best damn bakery I have ever been to. Everything is fresh made daily and you can taste it. The place is cute and clean and everyone working is really polite. If the window doesn't lure you in you are an idiot because there is even better stuff inside and its not even expensive.

  • Cliff

Great selection of baked goods, both breads and pastries. The only thing I didn't like, was the pudding in the chocolate eclairs was sour tasting, instead if the sweet tasting I am used to. This is a Ukrainian bakery, so maybe that is why they had a different pudding recipe. It is expensive.

  • Megan Mane

I took the subway here for breakfast one morning, because it had great significance for me. And I walked all the way back home before going to work at the department store. And thank you for showing me what real people from Ukraine are like, at the most dire and horrific of times. Love you.

  • Noushad Rahnama

I know they've just opened their store, so there will more improvements as it goes. But all and all, the owner was quite nice and welcoming. I very much enjoyed our little conversation. Good variety of baked goods and pastry in high quality. They also have good espresso based drinks.

  • Andre Vujovic

Most delicious bakery in Toronto, with incredibly friendly staff and tasty food… I tried to curb my cravings for the mini donuts in another bakery but nobody makes them as good as Janchenkos. It feels like home every time i visit… I definitely recommend this hidden gem in our city!!

  • Anita S

Ordered the filled donuts and a cinnamon bun through DoorDash today. I'm SO disappointed after reading all the great reviews :( Everything is dry and stale, flavor is really awful. I wish I could return and get my $$ back. I hate wasting food and money, but I can't eat this.

  • R O

A nice small local pastry shop. They have varieties of cakes and pastries. There's some small table outside to enjoy your cake and coffee. Due to the pandemic, they only allow two customers at a time inside the store. The rest can queue outside and don't forget your mask on.

  • Kathy Park

Wonderful comfort food and scrumptious sweets. The owner was lovely as well. Warm and inviting atmosphere although not much seating for dinner. We had not expected a full meal and were delighted to find such substantial fare so well prepared. Save room for some sweets tho!

  • Rebecca Northcott

What a fantastic find! This cooking reminds me of home. (I'm britsh) been looking for a decent bakery and this was more than I ever expected and some besides. Thank you for looking after me. The service was wonderful. Beautiful atmosphere, sights and smells. I am in love.

  • Sarah Dixon

I walked by the front window and everything looked really tasty, so tasty that I had to pick up a few baked good. I grabbed a few danishes and a cinnamon bun. All of them were quite bland and almost stale. Unfortunately they looked much better than they tasted.

  • Anna Kolonska

I would not even write anything if the Opera cake, I bought today, was just tasteless... But the edges were so dry, I'm not even sure if it was a fresh cake and safe to eat. It is supposed to be very soft, creamy with rich flavor. I had to throw it away.

  • Natalia Pohrebniak

A place where you'll feel like home ❤️Incredible service the staff is so nice and thoughtful which makes you want to keep coming back. Their soup of the day is exquisite ! And absolutely great coffee! This is love! Highly recommended …

  • Руслан Ташинский

Came to try some cakes and pastry and show my gf Ukrainian sweets and was offered samples of sauerkraut/cabbage rolls/varenyky which were delicious and free of charge. Very friendly staff and great service. Will definitely come back many times

  • Phil Gillies

Stopped in yesterday for the first time. Picked up borscht, cabbage rolls, pirogies and chocolate-dipped cannolies. Everything was outstanding. The cabbage rolls are huge! And the server was delightful. Thumbs up to Janchenko's! I'll be back.

The service used to be good 3-4 years ago. Nowadays, they are rude and unwelcoming. I was a regular customer but no more thanks to their attitude. Last time I visited, the girl behind the counter told me she didn’t know where the bun that I

Unfortunately, there is nothing Ukrainian in the offered dishes, except for their names. Cherry vareniki/perogies were edible, but no more. Vareniki/perogies with plums were less fortunate, they were inedible at all, and they had to be

Over a day old pączki - hard and dry. I thought I'd treat myself, but leaving my house during lockdown was not worth it. Getting stale pastry is such a common occurrence in Toronto, and this was one place that usually had fresh pączki.

I visited on a weekday morning cause there are lineups on the weekend. The lemon danish is divine and so is the donut with raspberry filling. Jachenko's pastries are also huge! Highly recommend if you're in the Bloor West Village area.

Wow, what a great spot. Great service. We stopped for coffee and had an experience. Pastry galore. Lots of choices, hard to chose. We could only eat so much at one sitting. Going back soon, you should go to. How do you give six stars?

Beautiful selection of pastries. Walked by many times and decided to stop in today. Left with a few items, and so glad I did. Had the apple dainish, was not disappointed. A must try bakery if you are in the Bloor West area

Try their eclair, cream puff and rum ball. It's amazing! Great staff, sweet girls. They bake fresh. Some of their items are not sweet enough. Didn't like the tiramisu, poppyseed cake and blueberry cheesecake as much.

  • Travis

The pastries were obviously very fresh with good quality ingredients and they tasted fantastic! Seriously some of the best baked goods I've ever had, Definitely recommend trying! Very reasonable prices as well …

Every time you walk by the display in the window is so eye catching. Finally went in to try it and was not disappointed! Great cinnamon buns and donuts. Highly recommend going back to try their other baked goods.

Janchenko is the place you go to feel cozy- the smell of freshly baked pastries. I have not tried their coffee yet, I trust it as much as I love their pastries. The poppyseed cinnamon roll is highly recommended.

I used to live in Bloor West village and haven't come here in years. This bakery has been here for quite a while and there's a reason for that. It makes delicious baked goods, both sweets and prepared meals.

  • kyla pellerin

Donuts were stale, cake was dry and meringue had the texture of eating a spoon of sugar. The cherry filling inside the donut though was delicious. The place looked so good and was definitely disappointing.

Yet again, this week's visit was fabulous. We had our treats after dinner yesterday and can't say enough how amazing they were. Even my young nephew couldn't believe how good they were. Thank you so much.

  • Payton Tenebaum

If you have ever walked by the window of this bakery you know how absolutely delicious everything looks. The sweet treats are great, and they also have a number of hot/cold food options as well!

  • Claire Sheeres

This place is unreal and the prices are super affordable. Truly one of the best bakeries in Toronto. A must try if you're in the west end.

Visited Bloor West neighborhood last week. I stopped in for a doughnut & pastry. Treats were very fresh. Nice quaint atmosphere in the shop. Lady who took care of me was very friendly!

Every think looks amazing, but unfortunately couldn't try any one person behind the counter, after a long wait I decided to leave.

Desserts were dry and far from freshly baked. Only cash or debit, which I imagine is to avoid ~2% credit card fee, but it’s fine and totally customary for you to tip upwards of 15%.

  • Olga Zhuravel

Came especially for their food. It is just basic, nothing special. Cabbage rolls are with rice ( no meat found). You are not allowed to use washrooms, which is ridiculous.

  • Carrie Coburn

The BEST ginger cookies! I'm hooked on them! Staff super helpful and friendly! Everything looks delicious! A hidden gem, treat yourself, go once, it won't be your last!

  • jennifer baggetta

Stopped in for some breakfast. Had the “Grown Up” Grilled Cheese with Prosciutto and Havarti! It was amazing! crispy and gooey! With the pickle on the side. YUM!

  • Anya K.

Great selection of delicious Polish/Russian/Ukrainian pastries. Presentation is messy, staff tend to rush. Ask for proper containers if you’re getting takeout.

  • Abigail Holt

Lovely selection of fresh, authentic baked goods. It's a treat to look at all the desserts in the window. Very reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

Maria made a beautiful cake for our daughter, who is away from home for the first time for her birthday. She loved it so much, it really made her day!

Great staff. We had a few pastries. They were good overall. People who like thicker and heavier taste (like me) might find their cream a bit flat...

  • Brian

Tried both the plum and custard donuts and both were fresh and delicious. Friendly customer service from the two wonderful women behind the counter.

  • Andrew

Very special place. Photo shows delicious sauer kraut and mushroom bun. Great selection of Eastern european pastries and breads.

  • regina drummond

If you like polish pastry and food, this place sells them like homemade. And they are huge! Gotta try it.

  • Priyanka Khosla

Charming little Ukrainian bakery. We had mushroom soup, Opera pastry and coffee and totally loved it

  • R Daneshvar

An excellent bakery - Tasty sweets and drinks - friendly and clean (even the washrooms!)

Great price. Great Eastern European style apple pie and coffee. Lovely floral decor too

Great little bakery in the area. Definitely worth a stop and give it a try!
