"Montessori One Academy has been wonderful"
As other parents mentioned this facility is immaculate. Very nice facility. At first impression this school is perfect! There are some great teachers as well. Only some, not all! Why am I giving the school 1 star? I would give it zero, if that was a choice! As another parent mentioned in the reviews, this is a business first and not a school. As any other businesses, the main goal of M1 is profitability; whatever it takes. Lies, breaking laws, ....The profit is the main goal and your child and concerns are secondary. There is a very large number of students per teacher ratio and yes even above the state allowed ratio. Kids are being moved around during the inspectors’ visits and all the staff and teachers’ children aren’t counted in the ratio. Further this location hires underage employees claiming that they are not left alone with the kids and they have been counted towards the ratio. This is not true! There were multiple instances when I picked up my kids that were left with a teenager. I confess that I liked that employee and I didn’t mind him watching my kid. Nevertheless it was against the state law. Transparency is also a problem. They hardly communicate anything with parents. As an example there was an incident in the parking lot of school involving three men and a gun. Parents were not informed about the gun until the director was pressured by a few parents to share the true story. The school claimed that they went on lockdown, while in reality the teachers inside the classroom were not informed about the incidents behind the classroom window. Teachers are not allowed to talk to parents freely. The place provided for teachers to pump breast milk for their babies after delivery or to nurse their babies is the men’s bathroom, while half of the elementary building is empty. Parents are also advised to use the men’s bathroom to nurse. Most importantly, lately it came to the public’s attention that a teacher at this school was placing children in the bathroom as a form of punishment. One a child said that he was not even allowed to turn the lights on. CYFD has confirmed the inappropriate discipline through two separate investigations. Three teachers currently at school and a former employee have witnessed that the inappropriate discipline has been going on for about 4 years and the director was informed. M1 denies it ever happened. They paid a fine and promoted that teacher to assistant director. If you are considering this business to provide care for your child, I advise you to read the CYFD report carefully and then make your decision. I used to believe in M1 for many years and until a few weeks ago I was sure my kids would stay there for elementary. The ugly truth I learned about M1 in a short time is shocking. You can find the full CYFD report on krqe report by doing a Google search. While this place could easily be a great school, unfortunately they just simply do not follow practices in the best interest of the children. It is unfortunate and heartbreaking. Good luck in your search.
Spring 2016: My son is in the inaugural class at Montessori Elementary after having attended the preschool from age 18 months through Kindergarten (I left my post from nearly 4 years ago attached to this comment). The Montessori curriculum has been a great fit for him - he is very advanced in both reading and math, and LOVES going to school every day. We appreciate the small classroom size and believe it allows for truly open communication between parents and teachers on a regular basis which has provided us the opportunity to work alongside the teachers in assisting with our son's educational advancement. During his Kindergarten year we looked at multiple private schools in Albuquerque, and considered public school as well, and allowed him to spend time at a few schools. We felt the Montessori classroom was the best fit for him, and have developed a relationship with the staff at Montessori ONE that we didn't feel we could move him from the school. When we let him voice his opinion about which school he wanted to attend (after we had made the decision to enroll him at Montessori ONE but not told him so), he stated that Montessori ONE was his choice of all the schools he had visited. FROM 2012: I initially toured this facility when my son was 15 months old, and the director was kind enough to allow me to bring a friend that is a certified Montessori Instructor. I was just learning about the Montessori theory and was impressed with the willingness of the director and staff to help me learn and understand the theory (as was my friend). My son transitioned to Montessori ONE from an in-home day care environment at 18 months, and despite severe separation anxiety, his transition was relatively smooth. At nearly 3 years old now, he is thriving and I continue to feel that the staff are open in communicating his daily routine and helping us with extending aspects of Montessori theory into our home. IF YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR JUST A DAY CARE or someone that is going to care for your child more than 40 hours/week, this is probably not the place for your child...this is truly an educational facility that offers child care beyond school hours to accommodate working parents, and it does have parent/teacher days, in service days, and normal school "breaks". If you are parent enough to be involved in helping develop your child's desire to learn, please check this place out and if you don't know anything about it, research or ask the staff how to begin learning about Montessori theory...I believe I am a better mom for it, and my son is living proof!
I couldn't ask for a better environment for my children. The staff are extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and patient. This is a true Montessori school and even though that comes with strict guidelines, the children's social and emotional wellbeing always comes first. My two children (2yo in a toddler classroom and 5yo in primary) are very close. Some mornings one will dash off to class forgetting to hug and kiss the other leaving the forgotten in a state close to tears (Really! It's heartbreaking and adorable at the same time). Each time his has happened, no matter which member of staff is out for morning arrivals or what time it is (sometimes we're a bit late), the forgotten sibling has been spoken to gently and offered to be escorted to the other's classroom for a quick hug or wave from the door (so as not to disturb work or circle time already taking place). My children also happen to be of the headstrong variety and I always feel confident in the staff's ability to handle difficult situations. The children are always spoken to in a firm, yet loving manner when these situations arise. Academically, the foundation my children are being provided is priceless and I know everything they are learning now will continue to aid their understanding of more detailed and complex concepts down the road regardless of where they study in the future. This school has helped to instill a genuine love for learning and the personal experience of discovering new things for ones own self. Of course there are days when my kids argue that they don't want to go to school and whatnot (pretty normal for anyone, really) but for the most part, they love being a part of it. I'd also like to mention in this review the founder and director of Montessori One, Tina Patel. She is a living, breathing example of what it is to fulfill the Montessori philosophy. It is apparent through her actions that she puts the children, their education, and the whole of our community first. When I hear the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child," I picture Tina and her staff. I am truly grateful for our family to be a part of Montessori One.
This is a very organized school! They promote healthy eating which is awesome because kids can always find enough sugar in fruits. Tina and Falguni have always been really helpful and all of the staff are dedicated. The staff is very polite and the most important part, my 2 year old LOVES going and cant stop talking about all she did each day:) I've noticed a real growth in her from all aspects; from feeding herself to wearing her own socks and shoes, she has really developed hand-eye coordination and those fine skills you use in daily life. Academically, she is quite advanced for her age, and i love that they challenge the kids but don't force them. Each kid goes at their own pace and can choose the work they want to do. My daughter loves to count everything and 'reads' books although all she is doing is making up her own story based on the pictures :) ..but hey, for a 2 year old that's a great start! She has also developed a real sense of confidence, her speech has really cleared up and her vocab has really extended. She is always eager to show me her schoolwork and projects that they make in class. If you are looking for a SCHOOL, this is IT! If you are looking for more of a childcare, you may want to look elsewhere. Every month you schedule a day to bring in a healthy snack like strawberries or cheese for the whole class. This school does have parent teacher conferences and holidays and other days off just like any other school. They do however offer childcare before and after school each day though. The school runs from 9-3 but childcare is provided from 7 to 9 and then from 3-6 so if you are a working parent it may provide some ease. This school is FUN as well as ACADEMIC! I would say it is definitely worth calling in to take a look at at the least! :)
Montessori One Academy has been wonderful. Our daughter has attended since she was 18 months old and she is 30 months old now. It was difficult for me as a parent to leave her and trust a School with her. But the staff at this school helped me feel very comfortable and confident. They have taught my daughter so many things and have cared for her with a lot of attention and love. My daughter was potty trained before she was 2 years old and they helped me to learn tips on how to continue this progress at home. My daughter's classroom, in the toddler room, has 4 adult teachers which gives her so much one on one attention, it has been great! We are so happy with the director Tina, she is a very intelligent, progressive, caring and a great leader! We recommend this school to all families! They care for your children, they keep them safe, they challenge them and you'll notice that your child will be ahead of many children their age because of the great school they attend. Our daughter astonishes us daily with how much she has learned and continues to learn. We are very thankful for this school!
My wife and I searched around the city for a school for my daughter, when my son was born. At that time she was 27 months old. She is now set to graduate Kindergarten from Montessori 1 and we could not be happier. Montessori education is based on a child's drive to learn, and I feel that this school completely fosters that belief and aids the children on this quest. We were so pleased with this school that we also enrolled our son. We feel that this is the best Montessori school in the city, and feel that the cost incurred is well worth it. We feel that the teachers are so very caring, and completely aid in the learning of the children and fostering a great since of independence. Some have said that they push the children to hard, on the contrary, the children learn at a rate and level that they can accomplish. The teachers to push sometimes to learn something new, but a new lesson is not introduced until the skill is mastered by the child. I would Highly recommend this school..
Updated Review: Our daughters have attended Montessori ONE for three years now and they are thriving academically and socially. They started in the preschool program and have progressed into the elementary program where we believe they are out-performing state standards. The academy is top-notch from the facilities to the staff and the curriculum. The students are ethnically diverse, which was important to us, and so mature, happy, confident, kind, and inclusive. We appreciate the access to year-long learning with before-care and after-care built into our schedule. Having complete confidence in where, how, and with whom your children are spending their days learning and growing is priceless.
We’ve had our daughter in the Primary classroom for about 18 months now. The teachers are dedicated, patient, and committed to each child’s development. At 4, my daughter is learning cursive, can count to 20 in Spanish, helps to fold laundry and wash dishes, and is learning a lot of reading fundamentals. But what we really love is that we know we’re sending her to a place that cares for her, and is allowing her to develop at her own pace in a supportive and nurturing environment. We will certainly keep her at Montessori 1 throughout pre-k, kindergarten, and into the elementary program. I am so thankful we found Montessori 1!
Our family cannot say enough wonderful things about Montessori ONE Academy. Our daughters are enthusiastic about life and learning. They are growing into responsible, independent, thoughtful, intelligent people and we give credit to Montessori ONE teachers and staff, as much as, the Montessori Method itself. The instruction is top-notch and is available through 6th grade. The administration is open and responsive to feedback and questions. The facility is world class. We highly recommend Montessori ONE Academy to families considering private education and interested in an alternative to the traditional classroom dynamic.
This school is the best Montessori in Albuquerque. It is the only truly accredited school. All the staff have been there for a long time and are truly helpful and care for the children. The building and grounds are immaculate and well organized. Everything has its place. When you walk in you will notice how quiet the school is because the children are on task and enjoy the work they choose to do. I am so grateful that Montessori One exists because I know my son is safe, well-cared for, happy, and truly learning. He has blossomed here and loves to go to school every day. I would recommend this school to all parents.
I absolutely love Montessori One and all it's teachers and staff. My son has learned more (on a different level) at this school in just a few months compared to other schools he went to for a longer period of time. I really like the fact that Montessori teaches students to be independent and try to do chores such as cleaning up after themselves, preparing snack for their classmates, etc. It is such a homely environment and very well kept and managed!
My daughter is currently attending the preschool in the kindergarten class and has been there for almost 2 years. I wasn't sure at first about the school since it is much smaller and different than a typical public or private school, but my daughter and I love it! I am really pleased with the education she is receiving, and my daughter and I really enjoy getting to walk into her classroom and say our goodbyes each morning.
Both of our children have attended school here since they were 18 months old. We have had an excellent experience. They are both extremely advanced for their age in math skills and reading and most importantly, love going to school every day. Our daughter is currently in the primary classroom and our son is now part of the inaugural year of the Elementary School.
Mr. Sachin and Ms. Miranda are exceptional educators. My daughter is able to learn and excel in a nurturing yet challenging academic environment where she is guided to use strategies that allow her to access and practice skills above her current grade level. I am beyond pleased with my daughter’s education at Montessori One. Kudos!
Our son is completing his 3rd year at Montessori One (Primary Class). It is the perfect environment for him. Structured and loving. The teachers and staff are all dedicated to the Montessori method and provide a loving learning environment. We have had a great experience at Montessori One and highly recommend it.
We have had our daughter there about a year. We have been very happy with her teachers and Tina. It's everything we hoped for in a school and we look forward to our son starting this summer. Thank you to all at Montessori One!
Wonderful school with a variety of opportunities to learn and interact. The teachers have been so warm and caring and my little one is happy to go every day. They have made the transition to daycare so easy for our family.
Excellent place for your child to learn and grow. Everyone here is so friendly and engaged in caring for your child.
Can't imagine a better place for my child.
Great school, I love it
A+++
