Went in to work on my dogs confidence in strange places and being able to optionally meet new people. The one staff girl came up without asking, and my dog was ok about it. She weirdly started informing me on the breed, after I had explained that she was one of many I had. She acknowledged that the breed can be wry of new people, but ignored my dogs clear communication that she was uncomfortable once she stood up (she doesn’t like being leaned over or directly approached). I had come for a brush as she was blowing her coat, and I lost mine. The staff member made numerous comments about my dogs coat, despite my acknowledgement she was heading for a groom and I was purchasing a brush. She made several comments that my dogs hips were painful, though she was only avoiding the employee due to being nervous of strangers and having the staff member repeatedly pull hair from her hind end. She is OFA hip tested, and I manage a vet clinic, and she is not painful. I tried to dismiss the conversation and purchase the brush my sister (professional groomer) suggested. I also wanted to counter condition my dogs response to the brush and work slowly to build a positive association with it since it was new and she’s a sensitive dog. As I was still paying, the employee, without asking, removed my new brush from the casing and started to try to brush my dog with it. My dog displayed numerous very clear shows of stress and if it had been a different dog she could have been bitten. She ignored these signs and began brushing my dog and making, again, numerous comments about her coat and her social skills. I just found the experience to be extremely insulting, and undid a lot of work I had already done or intended to do. Even using the product I had just purchased for myself is just weird. I was polite and friendly but went away from it extremely disappointed, embarrassed, and annoyed. I have run lodging/daycares, and worked in the veterinary industry, and training industry, for years. I didn’t appreciate other pet people neglecting to ask consent, ignoring body language of the pet, and being condescending in a public setting or insinuating they can diagnose my dog with pain or dysplasia or make comments on her care. Hard to recommend anyone else go somewhere just for unsolicited advice and embarrassment.

I will never use the barking lot again! HORRIBLE COSTUMER SERVICE THe last time i had used their services they never called me when my dog was ready, i had to call them after my dog had been there all day and was told that she had been ready for a while, but no apology for not being notified, was just given attitude.Then i decided to give them a second chance; when i called to book the appointment, the lady told me she was busy with a customer and would have to call me back in 5 minutes, over an hour later i called again to see if i could book the appointment and was told that she had forgot about me. The appointment was finally booked and dropping my dog off was fine, but when i went to pick up my dog, they didn't have paper in the debit machine and could only take cash, so i had to wait while another employee was out buying paper, as i had no cash on me. The lady working behind the counter offered me a stool to sit on as i was holding my daughter who is under a year old; i thought the gesture was really nice, until she started asking my daughter about being a big sister, the lady thought i was pregnant, as i was wearing a loose fitted shirt. I was shocked by this, i am not a big person by any means, but even if i was this is not a question you ask a complete stranger. VERY unprofessional. Then after sitting there for 20 minutes they were ready for me to pay, no discount, no apology and they had the nerve to ask me about leaving a tip. I have never been so insulted before. I am not one to complain, but this is ridiculous, i will never go back again!

I want to be fair! Their job (Nicole) for grooming was so good. But their attitude?? I booked my dogs for grooming. But in the morning I didn't feel good. I am a cancer patient and I had to go to the hospital. So I called them and with apologies cancelled my appointment with them. I mean life is not predictable and I did not have anyone to take my dogs there. So there was no choice! I know it was the late notice, and I was sincerely sorry! But someone called me and screamed at me! He was like you are taking money from others' pockets. They are living and making money from you. You are the worst person and we do not want to see you again. You go and find another groomer for yourself!! I know that life is tough and these days people are begging for work, but dude, you are not allowed to talk to your customer like that! Maybe your behaviour is the reason that they can not make money. I told you that I am sorry! I was in the hospital and you didn’t even ask. Just grab the phone and shout at me?? Of course, I will never come to your store or the grooming. And would never ever recommend you to anyone!

Let's me start by saying I usually don't go to this place but my groomer was busy until the end of August and my two Pomeranian needed a bath and trim, I came to the barking lot to give it a try and unfortunately I will not return. I was told that it would be 58$ each was fine but upon picking up both my dogs I looked at the invoice and both my dogs had an extra cost each of 10$ I ask why, the lady at front ask the groomer she said ohhh it's for de shedding shampoo but nobody made me aware of this. Finally I advise I will not be paying for something that they did not check with me first they took it off my invoice. I also found the lady at the front very rude and not willing to listen when I was asking questions. Sadly I was already frustrated from the experience did not notice how bad of a trim they did until I came home, so much fur left untouch or if it was trim it is uneven and choppy so disappointing. For the price they charged I would expect better customer service and better groomers.

I've always had a decent experience there and have tried to regularly go because I like to support local however after my last visit I have a feeling I won't be going back until after this whole pandemic chaos ends. I find it super uncomfortable to be in close contact with someone without their masks on, and on one hand it was really nice that I was invited back to help my old dog up on the table but, the fact that the groomer who was like a foot from my face without one made me VERY uncomfortable. The lady at the till kept taking hers off too. Sadly, this is the way things are right now, personally I'm way more attached to feeling safe in an establishment than I am perfect service as I have compassion for how hard customer service can be right now.

Took my 2 year old cockapoo here for the first time for a groom this afternoon. I was really impressed with the honesty and accountability that they took. Turns out my pup was a bit wiggly and ended up getting a cut. They took her to the vet to get a stitch, apologized, and covered the cost of the vet visit. I've had past groomers cut my dog fairly deep and fail to do anything about it or even mention it to me, so I really appreciated that they took responsibility and told me right away. They did an amazing job on the groom - my pup looks so cute with her new haircut! Will be returning!

I have always had a great experience with The Barking Lot. They usually go out of their way to get me in and will even contact me if an earlier opening becomes available. However, I took my dog in a week ago and they shaved him so close the they cut him no less than a dozen times. No he has bandages all over his body and has been wearing a cone since the day after he was shaved, to keep him from biting at the wounds. I even though about calling in Animal Services it is so bad. I can only imagine the torture my dog must have felt going through this experience. Never again.

Sign on the door says new owner is taking over July 1. Came by and the place was closed 2 hours earlier than usual. Please post your new hours somewhere on your storefront. Edit: Sorry I don't have an updated photo, but the owner says their hour listings online should be accurate now. I look forward to visiting this store as much as I did under the previous owners. I did have the opportunity to come by a short while ago and the store is looking far better stocked than it was before and the service was great!

This is my first time and will definitely come back. Their store has a wide variety of products for dogs, cats and other pets. I'm very satisfied with the grooming service. The staff is friendly and compassionate, they really love animals and people. From the moment of making the appointment to picking up my dog the experience was very pleasant.

I really like the barking lot. My last two dogs went there for their entire lives and now I take my third dog there. They are kind and gentle and they have reasonable prices. As for the lady who complained about customer service, haven't you ever had a bad day where things go wrong, or forgot something, give them a break, they are only human.

Hands down best groomers in Calgary! Our Yoki loved it and came out happy, clean, and with a matching bow tie to his collar and leash! They did such a great job trimming his hair and his nails, and bathing him. They treated him like a prince and were very gentle with him. It was his first time and will definitely be back!!!

Our small pup (Pomeranian) has a ton of fur and tends to get knots behind her ears. For her first time going for a cut and a groom we weren't sure what to expect. She was happy and calm during her grooming and she looks great. We will definitely be returning. The cost is reasonable as well.

Went in to buy a cone for my dog and I started talking about my dogs allergies. John recommended a great dog food that is cheaper than the food I was buying from the vet. Great quality food! I have never had such amazing customer service at a Pet Food store as I did here! Thank you John!!

Prices are not consistent. I told them to cut my dog's nails, bottom of his feet, belly, bum and face. They charged me 45 bucks but only cut his nails, bum and face. They did the same thing to my other dog but charged me 65 bucks before and cut his eyelashes too. Never going back.

Love the barking lot. My bichon shihtzu always comes out super happy and so stylish. He is a handful and is squirmy. I appreciate their time and patience with my boy, and for giving him such a wonderful hair cut and nail trim.
