"my family went to enjoy a show and we were verbally attacked and physically touched by another audience member"
"This theater is so beautiful on the inside, from beautiful Greek statues to beautiful crystal, giant chandeliers! The seating for the audience is spectacular with its velvet beautiful burgundy color matched with gold trimming! I love the bathrooms and how clean they are! Plus all the best broadways, musicals, concerts, and operas are performed in this very building! I’ll be adding more photos of this amazing historical theater! The staff are always friendly and the union workers constantly work hard to make sure the show is ready to go! Be sure to attend your next favorite play or Broadway at the Saengar Theater! I guarantee it’ll be worth it!!!"
"I went to Saenger for a show, and had the BEST time"
"Moulin Rouge in the Big Easy, while like most of New Orleans the area is on the rough side(day shows are best call) the theater is really beautiful and the show was outstanding, best suited for someone with lots of musical knowledge as it drifts from song to song and then back into prior song that is carefully selected to tell the story and post intermission the words were also lines from song that were masterfully woven together to tell the story, visually it was spectacular from set design to costume changes to use of lighting to make is pure visual eye candy"
If you visit our city as a tourist, you must check out Saenger Theatre. The starry sky above your head, the auditorium where you can see everything happening on stage from anywhere, and wine, hot tea, and sandwiches in the lobby cafe will make your night. ⚠️ But! Be careful at the entrance when purchasing drinks! ⚠️ Don't skip the tip part when paying; do not hesitate to put zero or the amount you want to leave. ⚠️ Otherwise, the bartender will set the highest possible tip percentage for you ⚠️ A couple of times, my "voluntary" tip exceeded the cost of the drink. Of course, If you call the theater administration after the performance, the tip money will be refunded, but you will still be left with a sneaky taste of the bartender's shenanigans. No such tricks were observed when purchasing merchandise. And one more thing! ️ In the second part of the performance, for some reason, the air conditioning is always turned on, and it becomes noticeably cold in the auditorium. If you are a freezing person, like me, take something you can throw on your back. Enjoy!
my family went to enjoy a show and we were verbally attacked and physically touched by another audience member. that person had to be physically restrained from further harming us and all that happened to them was the ushers moved their seats. needless to say, we did not feel safe and we did not stay the show. no repercussions happened to them and we were told we cannot receive a refund and there is nothing they can do for us besides find us another seat? i'm not one to usually write bad reviews, but my body is still shaking hours later as i was terrified from someone rushing upon me and my family. do what you want with this information, but we got absolutely no help from workers there.

I went to Saenger for a show, and had the BEST time. Not only are the seats comfortable and the theater absolutely GORGEOUS, but Jennifer Hayes, the director of theater services, truly went above and beyond to make sure that I was able to have my needed medical necessities. I didn't feel like an inconvenience or like I was requesting too much at all, and not everyone is as helpful and empathetic as she is! I was truly so thankful for how "normal" she made me feel. She greeted me at the front with the biggest smile and most friendly personality. I felt like I was being greeted by family! I will definitely be back.

The Saenger is a beautiful theater with a great staff and plenty of street and garage parking nearby. It features orchestra and balcony seating, with no boxes (that I could see.) They could probably do with more bathrooms (the lines were unmanageable during the intermission of our sold-out show), but there are plenty of concessions stands, an easily accessible bar, and a VIP lounge. The acoustics were nice, the seating is in keeping with an older, traditional theater, and the simple numbering scheme makes it easy to find your seat. I don't live in NOLA, but I hope I have occasion to go back.
Absolutely the best venue to see your favorite bands at. I get excited when I see one of my favorite bands are in town, and when I see they are at the Sanger, I'm even more excited. It is one of the best venues to catch a show at. No matter the seat, you will have a wonderful view. Your eyes are in for a lovely experience before the band even begins! The stadium seating provides a good view for everyone. The size of the venue is big enough to fit everyone, yet small enough to feel like you're in the arms of the performer . Sanger theater is, in my opinion, the best venue in New Orleans! I
I visit New Orleans every year for the Serious Business Conference, this is always held in the Saenger Theater, this Theater is so different from the normal sterile Hotel conference rooms that many conferences are held, it has so much charisma, from the moment you arrive there are many free water and coffee bars, and amazing hospitality. If you are looking for a place to hold a conference I suggest taking a close look at the Saenger Theatre, not only is this an amazing venue but it’s also in the Middle of New Orleans with so many fun places to visit and world famous restaurant.
A fantastic theater and the name on the marquee says it all. My wife and I took a flight specifically to enjoy the sounds of Gregory Porter. If you have not seen him live. You are missing a tremendous singer and performance. The Saegner Theater is a landmark that showcases some of the legends in music. The ambiance of this theater makes you feel like it's an outside event that is confined to a historical place. I liked that the audience was very professional but involved in the entertainment. Well dressed which I really appreciate. But here's a short clip of our experience.
A beautiful venue! I attended the theatre for the musicals Wicked and Les Misérables. I also attended the theatre for a concert. For the three times I have visited the venue, I sat at different sections and had no problem with hearing whatever was occurring on stage. The ceiling is really gorgeous and painted like the night sky full of stars. The ushers have always been kind and never had a problem finding my seats. There is a nearby parking tower that caters to the events at the theatre for $20. Or if you want to save money, park a few blocks away and walk.
This was a beautiful theater and bathrooms were clean. The attendants were not helping late comers find their seats in the dark so you had lots of people just standing around In the aisle as soon as the show started and they were blocking the view of everyone seated. They should have an attendant helping people find their seats with a flashlight in the dark. Instead you had people standing in the way of others and people shining their phone lights in people's faces. It totally ruined the first few numbers of the show.
Terrible customer service. I am a big theater person, and support them through all the ups and downs. This theater is not one i would be supporting. They’re very rigid about exchanging and even upgrading seats within the same show, surprising since that’s standard practice elsewhere. The customer service staff are rude and very unhelpful, even with silly requests like receiving a paper ticket as a souvenir as opposed to a printed ticket. I am sad I spent my money on this theater.
Amazing, beautiful theatre. The original was built in 1927. It was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina but redone to its original splendor. My family and I saw To Kill a Mockingbird, a traveling Broadway show. The show was wonderful, but the theatre was truly the star. It is stunning. They have stairs as well as elevators, refreshments and food for sale. It’s set up so well, the entire theatre emptied at end of show in mere minutes. I highly recommend seeing a performance here.
I've gone here 3 times and every time has been really nice. It's a beautiful building. The seats are really comfortable. You can hear really well from the top, but you may want to bring binoculars if you are visually challenged like me. Also keep in mind the concessions will be crazy expensive so bring enough money. Also the bathroom lines will run really long so after that last song during intermission you gotta move! It's really easy to get to and leave Also.
Always a pleasure visiting this place. From the moment you walk in you are transported back to classic Hollywood era. Marble floors and ornate details, classic and fantastic. We have seen Finding Neverland and Rent and both times we find ourselves in awe. One of my Rent tickets wouldn't scan, they directed me to the box office and the staff member quickly printed me a new one and we were in the door in no time. Hope to go back soon for another show!
Showtime was incorrect until 2 days before the show. I did not have a chance to notice the email so we were late to the event by an hour and saw the final closing number. Refused to give refund and, instead gave tickets to an upcoming event with 2nd level seating instead of first and now I have to pay for another hotel and take another day off work. Ridiculous. But the venue, as always, is gorgeous.
Beautiful histotical theatre downtown New Orleans. We saw Franki Valli live, yup still rocking it at 89!! Fabulous show, great acoustics. The talented Four Seasons didn’t disappoint! They were young, fun and entertaining. The band was the best in the business!! We have seen a lot of concerts in many different venues. This experience is definitely up there with the best!
I visited here to see a weekday evening performance of Wicked. As far as theatres go, it is pretty standard, but the decorations make it even better. The entrance to the ladies' room is beautiful, and the Greco-Roman sculptures throughout added a sense of class. I particularly liked the ceiling in the actual auditorium--it had sparkling lights to imitate the night sky.
Great intimate style venue. Saw Shinedown there and it was a great show. There isn't a bad seat in the place. Lots of bars for drinks so you are not waiting in line all night. We traveled from RI for the show and were impressed with the venue, especially since hurricane Ida rolled through here a month ago. Staff was very friendly as they are everywhere down here.
Beautiful theater! No need to get there when the doors open though. It's standing only. There are no benches or chairs, so if you're in heels you'll be standing basically still on a hard surface for an hour. Go closer to your show time. The suites are nice, but no leg room in the 2nd and 3rd rows. If possible, get the first row of the balcony suites.
This place is amazing! I went there to watch the Lion King play, and I was stunned and amazed by the props, acting, and more!! This theatre really entertained me and more other people!! I would definitely come back here soon! The stars in the roof are beautiful too! Was quite amazed by it when I entered to be honest …
I've been to plenty of Sangaer Shows from Plays to Concerts to Comedies. The seats are comfortable. A draw back is getting stuck behind some tall person. It's so convient for me bc I work at NOAC and just have to walk across the street. The drinks are more than what I'm willing to spend, so I pregame at NOAC.
Beautiful theater but the door people were incredibly rude and disrespectful at the Heilung show. Paying a high ticket price only to be treated with insult and contempt by rude doorpeople affects the whole experience in a very negative way. I will certainly not be going to the Sanger again any time soon.
I'm not sure how the balcony seats are but the floor seats are so roomy. I specifically got floor seats so I can have leg room and on this night, the extra bonus was, I had the whole row to myself. I also like that the numbering are on the arm of the seats so you can count down in your head.
Absolutely beautiful!! Been twice. Once to see The Color Purple on Broadway a couple of years ago and again a few weeks ago to see The Lion King on Broadway. The theater is beautiful. If I had a wish, I would wish there were more snack and food options. Other than that, the theater is great.
Seats are uncomfortable in the suites. Only one men's bathroom is visible. No place to sit in the lobby or up on the top floor. One of the concessions folks had a nasty attitude thinking he was trying to be professional. But the show Wicked was okay. Needs a more diverse cast.
Gorgeous theater. Great place for a show. Only drawback is the lack of space and restrooms outside of the main theater. Very crowded with long lines at the concessions and restrooms. Understandable since it is a historic theater. Sound quality and atmosphere excellent!
Beautiful theater. A wonderful job was done renovating it after Katrina. There's not a bad seat in the whole venue. Great location on Canal St. and it's easy to get to the interstate and other major thoroughfares. Close to the French Quarter, hotels, and restaurants.
Historic, beautifully crafted sculptures, vibrant beautiful colors, well maintained Theater. Very personable and helpful staff. They basically cater to the people's needs in the theater. Just a lovely atmosphere & a great place to watch shows in downtown New Orleans.
Beautiful theater and great show "A Wonderful World." This theater has the intermission women's bathroom line down to a science and the wait time was minimal -- the line kept moving. They did a great job in remodeling, as I haven't been here since pre-Katrina.
I had issues with a ticket purchased through a 3rd party and Alexa at Saenger went above and beyond to help. It was not the theater's fault but thanks to this stellar employee in the box office I was able to get into the show. And MJ the musical was awesome.
The Saenger Theater is a very lovely old world theater with top entertainment. Unfortunately it was not open the day I came by so I could only get exterior photos. The inside is far more magnificent. I will add inside photos the next time I catch it open.
A nice place to see some live entertainment. The theater was beautifully restored after being closed for about 7 years and is now worth visiting just to see the building. The staff that I engaged with were all very friendly and provided great hospitality.
Always a great time at the Saenger! Saw Lion King touring and the place was beautiful and classic! Recommend using the restroom before hand. At intermission, you may not make it back in time. Women’s restrooms are small and the line is long!!!
We saw John Mellencamp here! The facility is absolutely beautiful. It's history is so deep. The show was good but there were sound issues that could have / should have been taken care of by the sound technician for the band.
Wicked was wonderful. Extremely talented cast and crew. The Saenger is absolutely a fantastic venue. The architecture is unbelievable. The only complaint I have is some of the staff does not know the seating chart very well.
One of my favorite places to see a Musical or a concert. Beautiful Building with parking close by. Staff is very helpful and keeps the line moving smoothly. Seats are even comfortable for my husband who is 6’4” and 350 lbs
The light effects, architecture and layout of the theater are stunning. The sound effects roll out from every corner and it feels like you’re outside at night because the high ceilings are doused in purples and blues.
Beautiful theater! I wish the beauty of the theater and the shows offered were complimented by friendly Box office representatives. Sadly, my experience with their staff/representatives has not been ideal.
The theater is a beautiful space. It's got excellent sound and the stage is huge. Refreshment service to your seat. Would return anytime I get the chance. Moulin Rouge was an amazing play to see here!
Absolutely amazing experience and great staff! Perfect place for our first Broadway show. Was close to our hotel so the walk was quick and not too bad. Look forward to going here again in the future.
We watched Wicked and it was amazing. The theater is very pretty. It was crowded (waiting area) and the neighborhood is not the best (not clean and the rds are awful) but overall it was very nice.
Movie theater mentality for a Broadway production. People eating food (popcorn, granola, candy, nuts. etc) rustling bags & making all kinds of noise. Very disturbing. The play was excellent.
Great venue with a retro feel. This place was restored and is in excellent condition. There also seems to be a great line up year around. I've seen 4 shows here and have always enjoyed it.
Wicked Performance was great! Seats are undeniably uncomfortable. We sat in Section CC. Parking was $12, 2 blocks away in covered garage, not bad.
Very nice, classic venue. Sound was perfect. This was tribute to the Last Waltz. Jamey Johnson, Grace Potter, Don Was, Neville brothers.
Enjoyed a REALLY good musical with my mom and my teedie! My first time here... won't be my last. ❤️ The cast was absolutely incredible!
Beautiful theater! Worth going just to see the interior, and they have a great selection of shows and entertainment that come through.
The theater was very nice and the staff were friendly. The woman keeping the bathroom line moving was amazing! We loved the show!
Went to see Wicked. The atmosphere at the Saenger theater is always breathtaking. It’s one of the precious jewels of New Orleans.
Very classy. Tips use bathroom early. Find your escape route if fire etc. Bring cusion if you have no buns. Show was excellent.
My wife attended this theater about 5 time a year, the setting is great, we already have reservations for wicked coming up.
Trevor Noah: Off the record concert was absolutely amazing. The theatre has a beautiful and well organized set up
Amazing entertainment venue. This ornate & historic is a great place to see a live music or entertainment event.
Beautiful venue! Not a bad seat in the house. Saw Les Claypool and this place was made for this type of music.
Beautiful theater, quick lines. Saw the Michael Jackson show here and we had a great time! Highly recommend!
Absolutely wonderful! Wicked was amazing! Food and drinks were very pricey but all in all a wonderful time
MJ The Musical was fantastic with super talented actors and dancers. I love this theater. It’s beautiful.
I have been to Broadway and this theater should teach others on the way to make a show feel!
Absolutely the most beautiful place! It's just gorgeous! THE CEILING TWINKLES LIKE STARS!
First time there & we saw the Gregory Porter concert. It was an awesome experience!
