HORRIBLE! HUMILIATING! RIDICULOUS!!! I have spent thousands of dollars at this store in the 4 years that I have worked in the building across the street (unfortunately that is NOT an exaggeration). Some of the cashiers know me by name, including the cashier that rung me up today. I work downtown and it was really crowded this morning, the cashier couldn't hear me good so she had me repeat my order a second time. When she said my total was $13.60 for my chocolate croissant and grande caramel frap, I thought maybe I misheard her. I handed her a $20 and she gave me back $5.40. I thought about it as I walked away and realized there was no way what I ordered came up to that amount, but I figured that she must have accidentally added something to my order...so I waited to be called. Sure enough, all I got was my frap and my croissant. So I went back and told her that I thought she overcharged me. Since I paid cash, she had to scroll through the computer to try to find my order. She looked for orders that amounted $13.60. She did find a couple, but she said they were for "Sonja" and Katlheen" and not me. She said she remembered me paying $13.60 and remembered giving me $5 back, she also said that she found a $5 bill on the floor in front of her cash register (apparently that had nothing to do with me). When she couldn't figure out what happened, she called someone else over to help. The woman who came over had a shirt on that said "Rachel, Navy Spouse". Rachel asked what happened and the other cashier explained it to her. She kept asking what I wanted and what my problem was if I got charged 13.60 and received the correct change back. I explained that I didn't order over $13 worth of food. The cashier who rung me up told her that my order should have totaled $7.50, but for some reason she remembered it coming up to $13.60, but could only find an "open order that never went through". Rachel pulled the drawer and counted it, a few minutes later she came back and told me "her drawer is balanced, so I don't know what to tell you." I asked her if she was implying I was lying, and reminded her that I frequent the store and the baristas know who I am... I bought $88 of travel mugs for my Mother and daughter for Christmas, I would not lie about $6. The fact is, the cashier entered my order wrong, and of course the drawer was balanced, because according to the system... I owed $13.60, even though I did not receive anything more than my usual $7.50 order. Anyway, Rachel got annoyed and kept asking what I wanted her to do. I told her I wanted my $6 back and she kept insisting that I wasn't owed $6. Finally, she slammed her hands in the drawer, pulled out a $5 and a $1 bill and said "Fine! Take the damn $6 and I will worry about it later". Then she screamed "You are not welcome in this store ever again", " Don't ever come back here!" There were attorneys from my firm at the end of the long line, all these people are from businesses in our downtown area. The legal community is not very big, and I just got banned (very loudly) from the Starbucks! I was sooooooooooo embarrassed! You can pull up my account and see how often I go to that store and how much money I have spent there. I was not in NEED of $6. It is the principal, and I totally got treated like a lying, THIEF! I have NEVER had such AWFUL customer service in my ENTIRE life!!!!! Rachel, who claimed she was the manager, has the worst people skills I have ever encountered. She absolutely could not and would not take the time to understand what I was saying, ad instead insisted that I was lying. I will NEVER return to that store again, and not because I'm "banned", but because I am too humiliated to show my face there.
This Starbucks is above average when compared to other Starbucks. I think that has to do with staff. They are very friendly and try to get your order done promptly. If you come here regularly, they will remember your order. The staff sometimes have to really keep the line moving because this Starbucks can have the longest Starbucks lines that I have ever seen. And I have been going to varoius U.S. Starbucks since the 90s. The line gets long in the morning. Probably because this Starbucks is ideally located near a lot of office building, the Santa Fe train depot across the street, and this shop is right next to a trolley stop. I would have to think that this is an A+ location for a Starbucks. There is plenty of seating (indoor and out) but it can feel up quickly because of the crowd, And they have enough plug outlet even though a few are very loose and don't work well. Very nice outdoor patio and nice large windows inside. You can also do some nice people watching from this location. Probably not the best Starbucks for serious reading or studying just because there is usually quite a bit of noise and action. People waiting for their orders sometimes fill up the whole lobby. Do I have a favorite barista here? I like them all but I really liked Will. He always complimented on my smile and style. But crazy enough I think that he got fired or something b/c I haven't seen him in months. Oh, well, don't be surprised if you favorite barista moves on to greener pastures..I guess...lol
I was, at first pleasantly surprised to open the door this morning and not see the usual long line, only to discover the line had been re-routed so as to go around an older gentleman who lay flat on his back in front of the register, bare chested, with defibrillator paddles attached, and first-responders hovering over him. "The line is right this way, sir" the rosy cheeked young barista gestured, guiding people around the distressed man. I guess I should be grateful they even bothered to do that, and not simply encourage patrons to step over him in pursuit of their machiatos as he lay glassy eyed and gasping for air. As for the patrons who did join the queue, I can conceive of no possible insight that would make them think their actions were appropriate. Maybe his condition wasn't as bad as it appeared, maybe it wasn't a heart attack and simply an infarction, or a 'cardiac event'. Maybe it was just bad gas, brought on by an unfortunate soy milk frothing mishap. But I don't think it matters. If Starbucks is willing to sacrifice a man's dignity and potentially his emergency care, so that they don't miss even a minute of business, what else are they willing to sacrifice for profit? To the man and his family, I wish you a speedy recovery and the best possible care. I also offer my testimony in the event that the calloused actions of the store manager caused you any undue distress or injury.
The WORST Starbucks in the world! and I’m an avid Starbucks drinker since 2006 and I am also from Capitol Hill, Seattle so I’ve seen really bad ones. I waited for ever even after I mobile order my food and drink. I got there the drink was ready but waited another 15min only to be told that they are out of stock. The actual manager came up and mumbled to another employee “welcome to customer service” while they all chuckled the cashier rolled her eyes when I asked for my refund. I just left without getting my refund because I was running late to work hence the mobile order in the first place. Starbucks customers are not like any other fast food restaurant customers because we are loyal customers who understand the culture customer service on both internal and external customers. I respect my baristas just the same as my barber my doctor etc. I think this was uncalled for and very unprofessional. I don’t even want to go back to that place again. Oh and btw, I still haven’t got my money back
I visit this Starbucks about once a week. Due to its location, it's one of the busiest Starbucks in San Diego, so lines are common, especially in the morning. Proximity to the trolley line downtown also occasionally attracts street people, who sometimes make a scene. Those things said, the staff at this location are always polite, professional, and prompt with their service, helping the lines move quickly and the scenes to be resolved gracefully. And the reviewers complaining about covers being placed over the outlets are out of line: although the outlets at floor level have been covered, there is a row of uncovered outlets about 3 feet above the floor that runs the perimeter of the space. Overall, a solid Starbucks.
Only use if cannot get to another place. Being next to a light rail station downtown, you can imagine that the place gets a lot of people who only want to use the restroom. I ordered a venti (largest size) latte, which made me need to use restroom afterward. The Unisex restroom of one toilet was locked. I waited to ask employee at register to let me in, and she told me that I needed to order something to use restroom. I told her that I had already ordered, with which she gave me code to use restroom. Cosidering that coffee, water, and milk make people want to urinate and deficate, this Starbucks restroom was inadequate. The rest of place was okay.
Sure, we all love Starbucks. The employees were friendly (as they usually are). The only reason today's visit got 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was getting a Greek yogurt treat (which was great), but I figured that a banana would go well with it and since they had bananas right in front by the register, I decided to get one. One banana for $1.25 is a little steep, but I have come to expect that steepness in exchange for high quality drinks and snacks when I go to a Starbucks. Quality was one thing this banana certainly lacked. It was a quality banana about a week ago. No big deal, still a pleasant stop for a light snack.
I wish I could give more stars to the people who work at this StarBucks. My story goes like this; (02/22/19) I go to this StarBucks a lot and I buy myself and a co-working are regular morning drinks and my co-worker accidently spill her full hot venti drink. So I went back to StarBucks to buy my co-worker another hot venti drink and because the people at this StarBucks ask why I was back so soon, I told them my story and they were so understanding, they replace it for free. Thank you all at StarBucks, I’m so glad that there are wonderful people like you and it will be my pleasure to be coming back to your StarBucks.
Starbucks is a vile business yet many seem to love it. The people at Starbucks during the pandemic required orders be placed on their app. And if I found, upon arriving at a Starbucks, the place was teeming with people and was so afraid to go in, they would not bring my order to the door and would not allow walk-ups at the window. They claimed that they did not know how to charge back my order on my credit card, and assured me I was screwed as far as Starbucks goes. Young Starbucks employees not fearful of death tried to bully me into risks I refused to take. Starbucks. Evil. Evil. Evil.
The staff is great and the drinks are made well. The lower ratings comes from the homeless community camping inside. Sounds heartless? Yes. But hear me out for a second. Walking up to the store looked like a shopping cart parking lot. Inside the homeless are patrons who have paid for a beverage and/or snack. Here is the complaint: the smell. I lasted about three minutes inside before I left because I lost all appetite. After some fresh breaths outside, my wife was kind enough to bring me the well brewed drink and a bagel.
The staff were friendly, prompt with my order, and made my coffee well. The issue comes with the cleanliness of the establishment. I was there for approximately three hours, not once was any table cleaned, floor swept, or garbage emptied. The garbage was overflowing and falling to the floor, sugar and wrappers were also on the floor. The bathroom was atrotiously filthy and clearly used by some folks as a place to wash their bodies. I've seen truck stop bathrooms that were cleaner. Also, there was no toilet paper.
This was definitely the friendliest Starbucks I've ever been to! The workers were awesome and the service was very good! The ambiance was cool and the choice of music was good too! I stopped 30 minutes before they closed to take a little break and at no moment they made me feel pressured to leave! Congratulations to the workers on August 8th at 6 pm the service was awesome.

I visit this Starbucks several times a week and the staff is amazing and always have good service. I can't blame them for the dining room usually being a mess - this place is ALWAYS busy.... Several huge companies frequent this place as it is in the base of their building with Deloitte and First Allied right across the street. Plus all the Starbucks downtown have resident homeless people which I see hard for them to deal with considering how busy it always is. When are they going to reopen :(
Customer Service sucks at this location. It seems like all the employees are just miserable. I stopped on 09/12. Young Lady Blond hair took my order and I asked her if she had a rubber band I could have and she bluntly said "No, why would I have a rubber band". How rude. When I got my drink from the Old Lady making the drinks and not even a smile a thank you or a f you. Seriously if your that miserable at this job, go find another line of work. Let someone that needs the job work here.
I don't understand the other reviews about poor customer service! The staff went above and beyond for me. Their smiles were so big, you could count all their teeth and when the sun was too bright, they dimmed it for me. Coffee was sufficiently caffeinated and my yogurt was adequately yogurty. I would recommend the prime rib dinner. One drawback... Bathroom is frequently used by vagrants and as such, smells horrible, to the point of gagging. Minus 1 star.
Words can not express the disappointment I have with this location and it's employees Rudeness, gossip, drama. Poorly Handel of situations regarding guest and employees and a dirty store, personally I think that part has to do with the location and the homeless coming in, still employees should keep an eye on that. But the attitude of this store is horriable. Diffently not the Starbucks experience you're suppose to get.
Gross homeless people inside and on the patio, trashing the place and creating a loss of appetite. Sorry if it sounds heartless, but the visuals and the smells are enough to drive you out. Still not sure if this is a Starbucks or a shelter. This Starbucks also plays the music pretty loud inside and out, so not a great location if you need a place to do some work and/or have a conversation while you enjoy your coffee.
Imagine your on your way to work and have to take a wicked dump. See a Starbucks and figure what the heck, handle business and grab a coffee/bagel. Well no dice, this Starbucks doesn't offer Restroom for it's customers who spend their hard earned money there. No more than 2 Stars for businesses that hate their customers.

I absolutely love the team at this Starbucks. The team is beyond friendly and tentative. They know the names of all the regulars. Drinks are always consistently made well or even better. It does get busy in the mornings, but I’ve always had great service. The team here is the best. Again, I absolutely love this location.

It is Starbucks and I love Starbucks but let me ask you this: who decided to get rid of the outlets Especially in a place visited so much by tourist people like me? It is a large place with a nice an spacious outside seating but not a single outlet to recharge your phone while you eat, have a coffe and relax in a nice visit to San Diego!!!!
Service was horrible. My drink was made incorrectly, instead of redoing it, the barista dumped half of it out and poured more cold brew in. I asked her to remake it completely and she proceeded to try to educate me on the way the drink is made. Attitude was not necessary. I think they need some customer service training at this location.
No complaints about the food or service pretty standard. NO outlets for charging or working they have actually installed platesOver the outlets don’t expect to stop in here to recharge and as a traveler this being across from the train station it reflects poorly on the spirit of what the company aimed to provide when it was founded
If you hope to recharge your devices after s long walk, then don't bother coming here. They have, it seems intentionally damaged all the power points so that it's either impossible or very difficult to use them. So you cannot charge your devices just enough so you can call Uber to get back to your hotel. Better go somewhere else.
This place has the worst service I've ever experienced. The lady with the glasses that opens the place is extremely rude and I will never have coffee here again. Before this experience, I was a frequent customer. Based upon the current lack of service and unfriendliness, I will never come here again.
The guy made my drink wrong. I told him he just walked away and I said excuse me.. again. He rudely said I’ll remake it. Well I don’t have time to get my drink remade after already standing here waiting for ten minutes for the drink I ordered. Terrible service and waste of my time and money.
This Starbucks does NOT open at 4:30 AM as advertised. We were there at 5:45 AM today and 2 employees were setting up, but not at all interested in customers waiting outside the store. There were at least 5 other customers waiting. We all left and the employees did not seem to care at all.
Horrible customer service. The lady taking my order was not friendly at all. Her tone was upset and projected down at her screen the entire transaction. Not once did she make eye contact. Compared to person at register next to her who gave a completely different experience.
Stopped in for a quick late-afternoon/early-evening caffeine pick me up on Tuesday 10/19 around 5:30pm and Connie and her other two teammates (I didn’t catch their names) gave STELLAR customer service. We’ll definitely stop back to this location while we’re in town. A+.
I don't come that much often when I do it's like I love the chocolate, brownies, dragon drinks with coconut milk in it and the turkey sandwiches located inside American plaza on West Broadway downtown San Diego

Great place great coffee but no power outlets! What’s a Starbucks if not for a pick me up for your self with coffee and your devices with power! Very interesting choice on the management’s side. Great place though and there are outside places to sit at . Shame
I just ordered a drink and a plain bagel toasted. Drink was ok but bagel had green stuff at the bottom. Looks very much like mold. Unacceptable! And I tipped them, blah... Never again. Check your foods expiration dates before you give them to paying customers.
I arrived 15 minutes before they closed and they had already locked the bathrooms (meaning they said i couldnt use it) and they didnt have any coffee brewed at the moment other than the basic. Pretty sure its illegal to not allow someone to use the restroom.
It is very busy during the week. The food and drinks are great. The staff is very nice and cool. It is great to eat inside or outside at this Starbucks location where the trolley comes through America Plaza. Amtrak is across the street from this location.
Starbucks is a Starbucks ... until you are turned around by time change and looking for coffee at 430 am ! Then you walk into this place and the staff are so polite and friendly :) these are the kind of people that make you want to come back everyday.
The service is good but coffee consistently is luke warm. Twice in one day today. Very frustrating. I don’t want them to throw out all the packaging and make new coffee. I want to be in and out with hot coffee. Figure it out. Get your house in order
Slow service at 6:30 in morning. Had to wait for blonde and they love to have bold either espresso or Italian and those are the worst coffee blends. Why not Sumatra or Verona for the bold of the day. More than Italian or Expresso
I came to this Starbucks to work remotely. After ordering I soon found out that none of the outlets throughout their seating area can be used to charge electronics. Not ideal and super inconvenient since I already order my food.
Every single time I stop by before work. The staff always seems annoyed to even take your order. Or even help you in the slightest, for the most part everything else is fine just staff needs to not be so off putting. More
A nice small shop on the corner. Great for grabbing coffee on you way into work just as you get off the trolley. I wouldn't say this is a particular quite location, but it's nice and has a protected outdoor seating area.
I'm not a fan of any Starbucks. They rarely get my money. I bought two items, I had to ask for a bag. It's was only 7:15 in the AM, and their bathrooms were disgusting, and without toilet tissue. I will add pics.
Excellent location! Right across from the Santa Fe commuter train depot also right at the main downtown San Diego Trolley boarding area. About a 5 minute walk from the waterfront. Has some outside seating.
Usual Starbucks quality. Sat outside and watched the happening at the central train station. Went there on Sunday. So there wasn't much going on. Outside area is fenced, offending approaches are limited...
A great and very convenient location. staffed by a very friendly staff. I just to enjoy it when I lived in downtown and again enjoyed it on my last visit. Stop in and enjoy some coffee and a treat.
I’ll say they were trying to clear out the vagrants in the store, the inside tables are few. The outside seating is like box seats at SanDiego homeless-con 2019... Good coffee/service.
Excellent Service and Caffeination! I got my fix of caffeine and a nice little breakfast surprise! The new egg mini muffins just hit the spot with my favorite Venti Verona!
Very busy, not enough staff to fill orders, but staff kept smiling & did their best to get the orders finished. Management needs to have additional folks on the schedule.
They always close early and never get my order right

They open at 430 and let me in right at 430 to get my food and drinks. Made my 440 train across the street. Starbucks is reliable and consistently always there for me.
Always closed they dont lock the doors and when you walk in they simply tell you they are shut down pretty sure these people are trying to screw over their corporate
Maybe i just got lucky, but on this day, at this location, everything was terrific. Super fast and positive engaging conversation. Thanks Shree. Glad i stopped in.
Big store and space but somehow no washrooms provide to own customers. Very disappointed to be honest. I am a Starbucks friend but not impressed by this store.
Fast and friendly service but the place doesn't have plugins for charging electronics. My goal was to enjoy my coffee while I work on my laptop but no.
No plug points No restrooms at this point just open up a stall instead of a whole Cafe. Anyway I would recommend it for quick in and out for coffee .
Wobbly tables so my drink spilled, dirty tables and floor, no place to charge my phone. Nice customer service though and close to the train station.
Been here 15 minutes and still no sign of my drink. 13 other people in line waiting for theirs and only one barista. I expect more from a Starbucks.
Good food and drinks however I thought the music a little loud maybe I was trying to study,.

The place was clean but only had one size straws...the long ones. Barista didn't seem friendly, just there to put in hours to get her paycheck.
No power outlets. Not a great location for someone like me who works from their laptop in the morning while enjoying sbux food and drinks.
I have been coming to this Starbucks for the past 6 months. They are an awesome group to see every morning. Always friendly and welcoming.
It's a typical Starbucks. Cold fusion coffee was just okay. Will not get again. Conveniently located by train station and bus stop.
Good location and friendly staffs. Pretty to close to the San Diego’s cruise terminal but no restrooms and no power outlets More
My drink here was great but its not as smooth as i thought it would go .It tok them some time to prepare it but it was worth it.
Always good coffee. On the day I went they only had Americano and only charged me the lesser price of what I was trying to get.
This place was a little crowded and the staff seem like they did a decent job getting through it. Again a typical Starbucks
Not happy. Forgot ingredients in my orders and I was in too much of a hurry to go back. Never go here again, rediculous!
Love the staff members -- they make sure your drink is correct or they will make it over with no complaints. Niecy
I took an order there and waited for 13 mins, and then i turned out they forgot my order. They NEVER said sorry!!!
The parking in this area is very very bad. Its not Starbucks fault, but it is difficult to get in and out of.
Great location if your catching the trolley or AMTRAK. Just use mobile ordering, cause they're usually busy.
Slow. Slow. Slow. It was as if customers were an inconvenience to them. Trash cans were overflowing. Gross.
Ordered using the mobile app and the drink was ready a bit earlier than predicted and tasty as always.
Good Starbuck location except for the broken glass barrier on their patio. Otherwise a great location.
I order through app and I had to wait for them to make it some guy came in order and got it first .!!!
Same coffee, sleepy staff, no power outlets and mentionably slow and intermittent internet connection
Great staff, very good coffee, well you know, it's a Starbucks.... Don't get on the train without it!
Fast and friendly. One of the best Starbucks I've been to. I look forward to coming here every day!
$7 for a coffee but can't use the bathroom, how about treating your customers with some dignity.
Had the last stock of the San Diego mug there. I just wish they have power outlets for devices
Super chill almost hobo free . . . absolutely great place to watch the sunset from the patio.
Conveniently located at the American Plaza SDMTS Station offers their already famous coffee
Always dependable for their great blends... this location is busy next to the train station
Great location just across from Santa Fé train station and few steps from trolley station.
I love Starbucks, but this location was a little lackluster. Not super friendly people.
No charge plug ins!! How can we work on our computers if there are no charging plugins
Everyone is great here. A bit messy but they cannot keep up with the number of guests
Service very long and quantity so small. The first time I have my coffee 3/4 full....
Fast, friendly service with a smile. As good as any other Starbucks I've frequented.
Service was fast and easy, Mobile order comes in handy when you have limited time!
I love starbuck not standing in line thought it was done better before the switch.
such great service line out the door and the smile of my baresta never stopped
Great baristas! This place is always packed, but they keep it moving quickly.
Great attention, they were friendly.. the coffee it was also pretty well..
Very nice and quiet.. View between downtown and the beach few blocks away!
liked it when getting off of trolley. easy to catch bus to airport. easy.
Just as good as any other Starbucks. Great spot if taking train to SD.
Busy place, to be expected. Great layout, strong wifi, hot coffee.
