Newest old bridge in the downtown river valley. There was an old Walter Dale bridge that was about 100 years old so the City of Edmonton finally got a new bridge built in much the same spot and kept the same name. It’s a beautiful dynamic bridge that is already iconic. The sweeping lines of the bridge are pleasing to the eyes and its simple design is just right for the river valley. June 20, 2020 returned to the bridge to enjoy the sites. The last time I was here the large open walkway was not open yet on the east side, now that it is open it is awesome. The pedestrian bridge is amazing. This is an amazing bridge that is accessible for all and has many trails leading to it. I recommend coming here and enjoying the sights.
Such a stunning piece of infrastructure architecture. The northbound bridge on the Walterdale Bridge is a blessing. The ever troubling interaction of Walterdale Hill and Queen Elizabeth Park Road has always been a nightmare. But the new bridge with the four wide lanes of traffic has alleviated so many backed up nights waiting to head north to 105 Street. Also space for pedestrian traffic is extremely generous on both sides of the bridge.
Can't get enough of viewing this bridge. Totally a construction wonder. It's an Edmonton city identity. Driving on the bridge make you realize the huge size of the bridge. There are also parks around the area. Specifically, the park on the hill is the best place to get a good view of the bridge. This bridge is a must see when visiting Edmonton. Night view is alo amazing. Note that traffic travels only in one direction on this bridge.
Cool spot for a walk when your visiting the downtown area. The cool breeze from the river keeps the hot temperatures down. While the exposure makes the sunshine enjoyable. There isn’t a lot on either side of the bridge. But over all it’s a cool spot for anyone to visit for a walk. It’s also connected to lots of walking paths along the river valley so you can enjoy a whole day walking. Definitely worth a visit!!
How in the world are we allowed to review a bridge? Like “did you make it across the river?” Yes..... “Okay 5 stars it is.” It’s a bridge here, at the end of the day it has one job, make A to B accessible. If you have seen this bridge though, it is quite spectacular. For this reason, despite it being a particularly easy review, I shall add a photo of the famed bridge.
The bridge design is great. Google has ignored several attempts by me to correct their name for it. There was nobody named Walter Dale connected with it. It is named for Walterdale, a community at its south end named after John Walter, who lived there and ran several businesses there, including the ferry service before there were bridges.
One of the attractions in Edmonton. They have added lighting for tourists, so visit after dark. Lighting ensures you have great pictures for social media. Parking is a challenge. Will have to park a few blocks away and walk. Bridge itself is not very long. There was a lot of Police presence. Not sure if that happens everyday.
Worked on this bridge as an Electrician it's last 2 months. A must visit! Bike path has railing lights and all along the bridge and bottom of the bridge there'll be lights when bike riding. Great addition to Edmonton's nightlife and as a whole!! To be up on the 21st of December 2017 #lightupedmonton ❤️ …
Beautiful walkway and the views from the bridge are amazing, especially during sunset hours. The landscaping along the path is really nice and plenty of benches to sit at to chill and watch the sun set. Plenty of space for both pedestrians and bikes to share the path. One of my new favorite places to walk in the city.
As a new individual living in Edmonton without many friends is a challenge but there are beautiful places that feel like home. Walterdale gives you an insight into the beauty Alberta has to offer. Just alongside the river, you will find well-preserved first few homes built in Edmonton. A peaceful weekend activity.
This place was amazing, although is crowed you have opportunity to enjoy it. The view is amazing, if you are lucky you can have an amazing sunset, as well as ridding scooters, take a walk and enjoy time with friends and family. It was my first time and it was beautiful, my family and I spent an amazing day.
Although its completion was severely delayed, I think that the wait is worth it. The new Walterdale bridge's design looks very modern and futuristic. Its arches is definitely a departure from the old steel bridge design that is common among the bridges that crisscross the North Saskatchewan River.
Such a beautiful area! The renovations they did and completely re-doing the bridge are well worth it! The pathway to cross the bridge is stunning and it’s so fun to explore the bridge from all angles! There’s a nice paved path that takes you completely under the bridge, it’s stunning!
Wonderful place, walk friendly, lot of nature walks around, walk over the bridge and alongside the river as well. Close to Alberta Parliament. Lit during night. There is a viewpoint on the other side of bridge (opposite viewpoint) to see the colors of Edmonton Downtown. Must see!
The Walterdale Bridge is an iconic structure located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, that spans the North Saskatchewan River. Here are some key aspects and impressions of the Walterdale Bridge based on its design, functionality, and public reception. Enjoyed doing photography here.
I miss the Old Walterdale Bridge. I never got to take a picture of it and regret it now. Also the awesome sounds it made as you drove over it. The New Walterdale Bridge is a work of art. It is a beautiful addition to the downtown rejuvenation and is a huge tourist attraction.
Hard to find parking near the bridge either you have to cross or you have to park before. You should know the place before going. Great views of downtown in the morning or evening. Have a professional camera with you instead normal one.
One of the only places in Edmonton where you feel lively during summer. A lot of greenery around to admire. Sitting on the hill and admiring the North Saskatchewan River, the bridge and Edmonton downtown is my favorite thing to do.
Whether you are filming a movie, taking pictures of your girlfriend, or just need to take in a glimpse of the city both day and night, walterdale bridge is your destination for some breathtaking visuals of our wonderful skyline.
Just a beautiful place to be around. There is so much going around the bridge. Looks beautiful at night. The place is clean and unique infrastructure. In summers its a wonderful place to go picnic or go walking around the river.
I am a photographer in Edmonton and I love using this bridge for photos! It is usually not very busy and provides a very interesting backdrop. From here you have nice views of downtown as well as the North Saskatchewan River.
I admire the bridge everytime I drive on it. I love taking my kids to the River Valley and we have to cross this bridge every time! It is nice that the city spent some extra money to make it recreational for Edmontonians.
Iconic bridge on the south side of Edmonton. Great access to the river valley and a huge network of trails. Large parking lot at the Kinsmen rec center. This bridge has stunning views of both downtown and the river.
The new bridge is fantastic as far as bridges go. Super useful pedestrian/bike pathway separate from traffic. Nice views of the river. River Valley pathways in the area are still under construction.
Miss the old bridge for only the humming sound it made as you drove across it. The new bridge is so much better. It is nice to have a mini beach area and boat launch under the south side as well.
Doesn't vibrate my car or make strange loud noises at all. Also, the bridge is very ugly because it is not a beautiful aged, faded green or made entirely of concrete. Two thumbs down.
A striking piece of infastructure in Edmontons river valley. Fun to drive under with the sunroof open at night! You'll find lots of photos taken of this bridge by local photographers.
Beautiful, simple yet elegant bridge structure with separate walking bridge attached to it, very thoughtfully designed! Great for morning or evening walks with friends and family.
Very nice Bridge to walk or jog on. If you catch the timing just right (like I have) you can get stunning pictures. Wheelchair accessible as well, which is an added bonus.
Always clean and has a great view of the city. Lots of paved paths and a big field to enjoy a picnic. Parking is close by and you can loop around a few areas for a walk.
Great view with a gorgeous seating area and plenty of space for bikes, walkers, scooters and other modes of transportation. Super close to the River Valley Trails.
One of the new attractions in the city of Edmonton. A nice place to take a stroll or biking. Lots of electric scooters to rent for a short ride around this area.
One of the highlights of coming downtown is the Walterdale Bridge. It's architecturally and aesthethically pleasing especially during the morning hours.
This one of the beautiful places to have a walk in Edmonton. I once was lucky to have a walk with this lovely family of deers that was wandering around.
Beautiful bridge, great spot for pictures or to take a nice walk, the sidewalk is very wide and leads to some nice trails or a picnic spot on the hill
The bridge looks nice and is beside kinsmen so pool and foot ball soccer fields. Saw some people riding jet skis so if your in that you can go there
This bridge is my favorite in the whole city, beautiful to look at and provides great active-transportation connections to all 4 directions.
This is great for a morning jog. Great view as exemplified by the photos. My camera went crazy on my last visit there. Architectural wonder
Nice place for a walk, wheelchair accessible, good for bikes. The sidewalk is wide enough for everybody and it connects with several trails
Great for taking photos during daytime. It also looks great at night. There are paths around the bridge so you can view it from all angles.
Walterdale is the most iconic bridge in Edmonton. It makes the whole river valley snap. Plus a great way to drive from campus to downtown.
Well the city did something right, the pedestrian bridge is nice and wide. Very inviting for foot traffic. The bridge itself is beautiful
A must visit place in Edmonton. The downtown skyline looks incredible from walterdale bridge. Also in summers its a must visit place.
Must see if you are visiting edmonton. Park at kinsmen parking lot and take a walk. Make sure to drive from south area of the bridge
Absolutely love this bridge!!! Nice to walk and bike across it's super wide and clean and there are built in benches along the side
Very cool bridge, great for a summer walk. the view of Downtown from the other side with the bridge in the pics are awesome.

Architectural Bridge for Sure,Even Glows at night. Beautiful bridge Day/Night with a walkway on Each side of the Bridge.
Beautiful structure of the city. The bridge has a biking and walking lane and part of the Edmonton River Valley Trails.
Nice Ambience to spend the evenings . Lime scooters are available all around the region. Awesome place to roam around.
This bridge is absolutely stunning. Love the open design, it makes for beautiful scenery pictures. …
Beautiful bridge with amazing biking and walking paths on either side. It's beautiful day and night.
This bridge is beautiful. There is something on this that adds to Edmonton's City Scapes character.
This bridge is so pretty. Great trails around the bridge. Go for a walk over it and see the view.
Good looking bridge, simple structural system, and a good walk across going to the river valley.
Definitely a new Edmonton landmark. Just stunning, especially at night when the lighting is on.
Took a long time to build, but it's amazing. Highly recommended to walk over it, or close by.
It was a bit windy. Parked at Kingsman sport Center. Overall, bridge and views are awesome.
The best walking path of any bridge on the Saskatchewan river that is not under the bridge
Nice, well lit and smooth. Plus it's not an Engineering pinky ring, so there's that.
Love the walk and bike around here. Stunning views of the edmonton river valley.
Nice sunset view from there , people place it is. Good for walk and have picnic
Iconic structure in Edmonton. Love the view from south river valley side
Enjoying the view, and relaxing while with friends is always a joy here
