I read about this place in Lonely Planet where it was billed as a cheap, lively student bar. It was dead when we went in, other than a few westerners (granted it wasn't on weekend) but it was the prices that suprised me the most, at nearly £7.30 (¥1,000) for a 473ml glass of Blue Moon, it's a bit steep. Other online reviews warned me that there had been a price change recently and I wish I'd taken the warning. If you are expecting bargain prices, go elsewhere. If you want overpriced European beer and food (and pop music) then by all means this may be for you.

The A bar used to be a student hangout serving cheap food and was in the Lonely Planet guide. So some people are surprised as it has been transformed. Nowadays, it’s run by a crazy and funny guy named Fumiya and it’s mostly frequented by his friends who are working in other bars, as DJs and the like. So it’s a bit quiet until later in the night. There is a little counter and they do good pub grub like chicken wings and nachos. Also pints of Heartland and Creamy Top Ebisu on draft. One of my go to places when I just want a quick pint and some nachos!

I stopped by this place my first night in Kyoto and made my way back each night after that! I love this place! This bar is so cool! The atmosphere, scenery, owner, his girlfriend and the other people coming in were just the best! The music was great thanks to the DJ and the drinks were outstanding! I did not want to leave this place. Next time I visit Kyoto I will absolutely be coming back here! I highly recommend stopping in if you get the chance! Hope to see you there!

They put on some quite nice music around 9-10 pm giving the place a really good ambience and party vibes. Also great for some bigger groups of people as they have huge tables to gather around. Service was very kind too as well as the DJs! I will come back.

Recently their prices went up after a remodeling and there are rarely any customers. It used to be brimming with people and now it's empty on Saturday evenings.

I don’t understand why such good reviews about this bar. The drinks list is very ordinary. I found hair in my cocktail, which was very unpleasant.

this is one of those places where you can feel at home, a well stocked bar with a wide range of drinks and snacks to eat !

A noisy, crowded, and in my mind unremarkable bar. Sure, it's like a log cabin, I suppose that's neat.
