AMC is either too big to care or they were heavily affected by the Covid pandemic and haven't fully recovered yet. They certainly seem like they are in trouble if this is the new "normal." At least this location anyway. It's been a few years since we were last at AMC 24. In the past, the experience has been pleasant and typical issues would be corrected pretty quickly. Today we arrived early for a noon movie. The theater wasn't open yet and many other patrons were waiting patiently in their vehicles. Once there was signs that the doors were unlocked everyone made their way inside. We purchased our tickets while we waited so entering the theater was quick with a fast QR code scan. Being the first few through the doors on a Monday at mid day I would have expected the theater to be clean and tidy. Popcorn was seen on the floor still from the night before. The bathrooms were also not very clean. The flat surfaces were hardly wiped down as well. The butter station had butter spread around as well. We purchased our popcorn and drinks and made our way to theater 10. When entering the theater I noticed the lights were still on. As I went to notify an attendant, I observed the switch cover was broken, allowing me to flip the switch myself. I then returned to our seat. My wife told me she wasn't happy with how salty the popcorn was so she was going to get a refill in hopes of better tasting popcorn. Once she left I observed in the upper right corner of the movie screen there was a light shadow which made me believe a light was on in the projector booth that should have been off. I notified my wife to let an attendant know. She returned with a new batch of popcorn, which was still heavy on the salt. The whole movie the light shinning onto the screen from the projector booth was never turned off. Therefore there was a part of the screen that was washed out. We even observed shadows of people walking back and forth in the projector booth. Needless to say it was a distraction the entire time trying to watch the movie. I asked for a manager after the movie and she informed me that she knew of the issue and told "them" to turn off the light but that didn't happen. She quickly. Gave us passes for a free movie in the future. She stated they are in the process of getting all new projectors and there is a lot of work happening in the booth. We heard the IMAX projector was down as well. Ultimately we left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed with AMC. The theater seats were also heavily outdated now that I think about it. Even for a free movie I don't know if it is worth returning simply based on the cleanliness, uncomfortable outdated seats, and poor attention to detail. When we go to movies we like to let the rest of the world fade away so we can lose ourselves in the movie. We did not achieve the standards we are accustomed to seeing. For our time and money, other theater options certainly look more appealing.
Pretty standard affair in that it looks like most other AMC theaters. It was clean and the lines at the concession stands moved fast. They also sell beer on tap which isn’t normal for all 50 states so that was an interesting add. The popcorn was great and the seats were excellent but the salted pretzel bites were “okay” at best. On top of that, you can expect your typical ridiculous prices on concessions. Recommend going to your movie on a full stomach and saving yourself the money—easier said than done when you have littles. But yeah, overall, it’s a very solid theater and movie experience was excellent. You could feel the music as well as hear it and there wasn’t any hissing. The screen was also crystal clear like you’d expect of an AMC. Worth the visit.
I hadn't been to AMC Barrywoods in awhile. The place is really showing its age. Just deeper cleaning would help immensely. The 1st 2 stalls in the bathroom were disgusting, but that can be remedied easily, but that made me notice more. The floors around the stools were filthy (I could actually see where the mopping pattern ends), the walls needed wiped down, in the corridors the edges haven't been cleaned since forever (you could see where the edge of the vacuum doesn't touch), baseboards were gross, walls and carpet are dingy, etc. The place just had that old, deserted, about to be shut down smell to it. Beyond that, the movie was great, sound was great, visuals were great, same movie guy at the ticket counter. Just sad to see the decline.
This place is huge and didn’t disappoint as far as the AMC experience goes. We are from Florida and all of our theaters have reclining seats in them. We initially booked tickets to a movie that was digital and asked the gentleman up front about the seats and he said only 3 theaters there had them. He didn’t hesitate to accommodate us for the one we wanted to see with reclining seats. He was great. The seats were weird to say the least. They recline like 75% back and leave you in an awkward position. No real recliner stays in the position these stay in. They should definitely do something about these seats because it makes it quite uncomfortable to be honest. They weren’t bad to sit in for 3 hours.
Nice theater, comfortable, clean. Weird thing happened though, in process of buying our tickets online I was charged but tickets did not go through? Arrived early to movie only to find out they had cancelled that movie time and were starting it 30 minutes earlier instead, and instead of the top of line theater it was bumped down to a standard theater. So I showed where it came out of my bank account, they tell me I probably have the same tickets but just in case they issued us the 3 in the reserved handicap section. Our seats were sold to others as was the majority of the show. We were really put 8n an awkward place. Don't know why you change movie times 45 minutes before the movie!
I had a great time at AMC Barrywoods 24. The theatre is clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The movie selection is excellent, with some of the latest releases and special features like IMAX with Laser, Dolby Cinema and PRIME. The sound and picture quality are superb. The only thing that disappointed me was that the side hallway concessions were never open. I had to walk all the way to the main lobby to get my popcorn and soda. It would be nice if they could open them more often, especially during busy times. Overall, I would recommend this theatre to anyone who loves movies and wants a great experience. It's one of the best in Kansas City.
My kid bought herself a ticket for Taylor swift for the early screen on the 12th. Went in dropped her off they sent her to the screen that's on the ticket. She waiting 30 minutes after the start time with nothing playing. I went in the KIDS at the front didn't know why it wasn't playing. And shrugged it off like it's no big deal. This was a non refundable ticket. The finally let me know they moved the screen room without telling her and the orher guests in the theater. I then called to speaker with a manager after explaining the situation and I was hung up on. My daughter lost out on the experience and her own money. This is not acceptable.
We did not have a good experience today. The popcorn was way too salty. Got a different bucket with the same issue. We had to turn the lights off ourselves when the movie started. Then there was a strange void on the screen. Reported it but no one ever fixed it. When the movie ended we realized it was because the lights were left on in the projector room. The manager said "I asked my staff to turn them off, they must not have". Also, we were among the first to enter when the theatre opened but the bathrooms were not clean. The men's and women's has toilet ring stains and yucky floors. Very run down.
If you don't watch your movie in the main atrium area for like iMax... Etc. the theaters down the left and right hallways are very outdated. Hunker down for the worst seats for your comfort level. My tailbone still hurts after watching a 3hr movie. Also bring back something fun on the upper level. Make that a huge arcade area/ lounge type thing. Do more events like you used to. Bring 1 of the side concessions back on sold out nights. Stock the tampon machines. I could go on and on but I won't. Also AMC should buy the movie theater that has been left empty inside of Ameristar and make money there.
Went to a late 1020 showing and didn't feel super welcomed. They also tried selling us stale popcorn that tasted like it had been under the warmer light for hours. Definitely not worth the $20 we're expected to pay. Luckily we got a refund in it but it was disappointing they didn't offer fresher stuff. I was excited for the IMAX theater but the reclining seats don't really lean back at all so it wasn't as comfortable as I had hoped. The movie was good though, just didn't feel like i got much value for what I paid for that night.
Quite the long line at the concession stand. In their defense however they had three people at the registers. As far as the crowd was concerned they definitely got busy making sure they could get the customers inside and out getting them taken care of as quickly as possible. Soon as entering the movie The Concierge was quite friendly and helpful. And the seating was not bad at all. Only wish was able to sit in the upper levels instead of at the very bottom. But knowing now I'll get the tickets earlier.
Went to see Oppenheimer for my sons birthday, and it started out with no ice in any of the machines. After asking two associates and a manager for ice, we finally gave up. We also ordered chicken strips, and it took 15 minutes to get our order. The power went out in the middle of the movie, after 20 minutes, it finally came back on, but they never turned the a/c on, so it got very hot and uncomfortable. Overall, staff acts as if you are bothering them, so we won't be going back to this location.
Movie theater is great! Always love coming for the prime theater. It’s my favorite. Just make sure you don’t lose anything here. Staff WILL NOT work with you. Lost a wallet Friday night and came back Saturday morning. The staff that were opening the theater watched us waiting and started laughing at us when my brother knocked on the door. Make sure you have nothing in your pockets you’re not willing to part with because they won’t help or work with you.
Standard movie theater. It is starting to get run down and they always seem to either be short staffed or the staff is just standing around. I would recommend buying your ticket(s) online, in advance. Additionally, the food/drink prices are ridiculously high and twice in the past year a movie didn’t start until a patron went and told them it wasn’t playing, then one played without sound. Used to be such a great movie theater about a decade ago…
We recently went to this location to see Oppenheimer. The theatre was uncomfortably hot and stuffy. I couldn’t believe that they expected customers to sit in stifling heat for 3+ hours. In addition the men’s room was dirty and smelled like urine. Paid a premium price for a subpar experience. I went to the AMC website and filled out a comment form on two separate occasions. I have yet to receive anything other than an automated reply.
Great place to watch a movie!!! Grab your favorite snack. The staff is friendly, funny and ready to help. They are eager to make sure that you have what you need to make your movie watching experience the best that it can be. Did I mention that they staff is Uber friendly? Well they are!! Stop by and catch a new release…they also have a wide variety to pick from with all of their screens and comfy seating options.
This placed has really changed but the wife and I haven't been to the movies in over 5 years. But we're retired now so we can go earlier in the day no crowds. We found out it's faster if you purchase your tickets online. Either way you have to pre pick your seat. Large concessions with alot of self serve drink machines. And there is even a bar in the lobby.
We use our stubs account to get discounts, which is nice. Prefer the earlier showtime to get cheaper tickets also. Concessions are expensive, but so is everything else I guess. Free refills help. Stubs rewards help pay for it. Immersive movie viewing experience. Reserving specific seating is nice. Employees are courteous and accommodating.
Didn't have a great experience here. There was a summer camp trip, which Is fine but there wasn't enough staff to help out so the lobby was dirty, and took a long time to get through the concession stand. Well, watching the movie I could hear the movie from next door over mine and the kids playing in the hall I could hear over the movie.
I have *literally* been calling every single day multiple times for 4 days to try to get someone on the phone to ask about lost and found. I am not from here, and my wallet with everything in it was lost. No one ever answers the phone, I even called corporate and tried to talk to someone. It's just simply not an option.
Staff was so nice, there's unlimited refills which I think is really nice. Kid friendly movies and there's even adult comedy. Definitely recommend 'Strays' it's adult comedy with fowl language but it's so funny. There bathrooms were decent. I love how they have a variety of drinks, slushies, and snacks.
Date night sure thing!!! We spoil each other & get the recliners it's so very worth it. Beware previews & your movie are very loud, but if u can go with it, then it's such a cool way to still see a movie out w/ friends, fam. or your sweetie. We arrange online ahead of time, it's worth it a time saver!!!
Great popcorn. Love having the option to order ahead so I don’t have to stand in line. Not impressed with the seating and the movie screen/projector stopped working multiple times at the beginning of the show so we could hear everything that was happening but the screen was black…
This was a very nice theatre when it was newer, but it is only average now. The food and drink choices in the concessions area are pretty good. The restrooms are so outdated and the seating looks dirty. It really needs an overhaul if they want people to come back after Covid.
The movie we went to go see wasn't bad. The line for the concessions could use some overhaul. Lines take forever and the counter to flavor your popcorn is very dirty and disgusting. If you set anything down, expect to get butter stains on whatever touches the counter. Bleh.
the seat was sticky and I found gum the cup holder but I really like the sound system in there. They do a great job having a variety of movies for each person. It would be very cool if they had merch in the theater that we could buy if we really liked the movie.
Always has short lines and friendly service. The monthly movie pass is a great deal here. If you have the pass, you get to skip to the front of the concessions line every time! With 24 theaters, there is always a time that works with my busy schedule.
This theater is not on the same level as AMC Legends and Independence or even B&B. Most if not all of their seating is reclining. AMC has not put the same money in this theater. At least not yet. Only 3 of their 24 screens have reclining seats.
Taking a movie experience to a whole new level. Reclining seats and a half wall between your row and the seats in front of you. Endless beverage choices and a butter fountain. Full bar and real menu choices like pizza. I want to live here!
Took my Autistic son to what they were advertising as a "Sensory Friendly " showing of Super Mario Bros. However that was not the case. It was pitch back and incredibly loud, the description says lights on and volume low. I spoke with 2
Don't go if playing in theater #17. Projector is pretty busted. Edges of the screen are burnt blue . Black levels are blue and weird large blue square grid overlaying the image. At least getting a refund for the ticket was easy.
Nice clean theater...purchase window was a bit slow ..could have used some help at the time for a 10:10 am showing. I know what you're thinking, why not purchase them ahead of time? Well, the website is not that user friendly.
Theater was fine and pretty clean. Concession was obscenely expensive. A regular sprite was 7.95 and a regular popcorn was 8 bucks and change. Snack was more than matinee ticket. Never again, way overpriced
Great staff - very accommodating. IMAX screening of Oppenheimer was awesome, and the audio soundtrack was better than anything I can remember. Drove 260 miles round-trip to see it and was glad I did!
We saw Sound of Freedom. It was an awesome movie. Very eye opening, makes you think. I am thinking whomever is behind Angel Studios is coming out with some great movies. Something not seen in years.
Good prices and discounts online. Food prices suck. Popcorn and drink 18.00×5 people. Chairs are okay. Next time I will get the chairs with recliners. Excellent service and friendly staff working.
Normally really fun but not so much tonight pre ordered food and we ran to our theater because the food was almost 15 minutes late and then it was undercooked. The movie was great though.
Poor selection of food items, and a good portion was unavailable. Didn't do the lights for the movie. Seats as small and uncomfortable. Looks good, but subpar food and comfort.
The chairs were comfy the snacks were great, just wish you hadnt run out of the Taylor cups and also the lights to illuminate the stairs need to point down, not in our face.
We hadn't strolled over to this one until the other day and I was pretty impressed. Clean space, helpful employees and the food was spot on with options and the price.
The service and people were amazing, however the prices to see one movie at $12.39 isn't. The price was way to high for one movie, but I loved the service and AMC.
Any chance I can get to go to an AMC theater I’m going. I love how everything is setup there’s definitely nothing like going to an AMC theater.
The location had great movie options and the price per person was reasonable. Make sure to look up the movie start times before you arrive.
Way too expensive it's not worth the price 16$ for a soft pretzel is ridiculous I will forego the movies at these prices and steam at home
Nice Dolby theater. We went to see Barbie, 8-15-23. Their seats are very comfortable. If you have back problems, not so comfortable.
Nice to have the theater open. Big parking lot friendly stuff. We love this theater not too crowded , clean restrooms. …
Was happy they show movies before 11.00. The room we were in didn't have reclining chairs, but it was still enjoyable.
Great screens, interesting chair recliners, great variety of food. Bathrooms were not clean.
New hunger games movie was great. Concessions is always quick and fresh.
